OS 3.1: Apple veröffentlicht dritte Beta und frisches SDK
Soeben veröffentlicht, hat Apple nun die dritte Beta-Version des anstehenden iPhone OS Updates auf Version 3.1 an die Entwickler verteilt. Wie üblich kommt das Firmware-Update nicht allein, sondern bringt eine ebenfalls aktualisierte Ausgabe des iPhone SDKs mit. Verizon reiterates it'll have the Pre -- early next year

Mom installs 98-inch screen in son's bedroom ceiling, deservedly garners award nomination
Thought you had it all set with a 14-inch TV and an NES in your room as a kid? Then you might want to look away for a minute, lest your childhood memories be diminished. Everyone else can take a good look at this 98-inch screen that Patti Deni had installed flush in the ceiling of her son's bedroom. Philips' first Android endeavor, the V808, caught on camera?

After waiting what's seemed like an eternity, we've finally got our very own US-spec Sony Walkman NWZ-X1051. Just like the Japanese unit we toyed with a few months ago, there's no denying the sexiness of the hardware here -- the OLED screen is gorgeous, and the faux-granite shell is quite nice in person, lending the whole experience a nice solid feel. Foxconn claims employee who committed suicide had history of misplacing prototypes
This is one story that only gets more bizarre with each passing day. The 25-year-old Foxconn employee who committed suicide this month, apparently after one of the iPhone prototypes he was responsible for went missing, is now reported to have misplaced other prototypes previous to this instance. Samsung jumps into e-book reader game with the SNE-50K
Samsung's announced it's jumping into the best game in town -- the paperless book trade -- with its SNE-50K e-book reader. With 512MB of onboard storage, a five-inch touchscreen and stylus, and a complete lack of wireless or internet capabilities, it's not the most advanced reader we've ever seen, but it's slim and light, at nine millimeters thick and weighing about 6.5 ounces. Why is Apple blocking Macintosh AR9281 Atheros Wifi drivers?
Here's one that might take a bit of crowd-sourced sleuthing from the community to solve:
Atheros, a maker of tiny, low cost Wifi modules for Netbooks and MIDs (amongst other things) has product called the AR9281 (PDF Link).
The product lives in a variety of higher-end netbooks like the EeePC 1000HE. "Higher-end" because the Atheros card supports 802.11N. These machines are often used to make Hackintoshes (guilty!) because they are the fastest inexpensive netbook you can buy. However, to get the Wifi working properly, you've needed to swap out the Atheros Wifi PCIe card and replace it with a $10 card from Dell or others because there are no Apple-Atheros drivers.

Nissan shows off latest electric car prototype with battery monitoring system, iPhone app
Nissan's started showing off its latest prototype electric car, based on the Versa. This one will house a 108 horsepower / 206 pound-feet electric motor to drive the front wheels, and a 24 kWh, lithium ion battery pack will be fitted under the floor for storing electricity, with an expected range of 100 miles. To top things of nerd-style, the newest prototype will have a navigation system which will show the current life of the battery, and the mile range its current amount of juice will support, and will boast the ability to download info about nearby charging station locations. iZotope has released an update to its Logic Pro and Soundtrack Pro plug-in, Radius. The latest version boasts support of Logic 9 and Soundtrack Pro 3, and adds pitch coherence controls to the interface. Panasonic is going at it from all angles today, with three new 12.1 megapixel LUMIX cameras with surprisingly distinct aims:
LUMIX FZ35 (pictured) - The requisite "superzoom" of every lineup, the FZ35 doesn't disappoint on features, but the $400 pricepoint certainly pushes the limits of "consumer" camera. Features include 18x zoom and HD video recording, including a Creative Movie Mode with shutter speed and aperture settings for video. Security researcher shows that iPhone data isn't really that safe
Informationweek reports on how Jonathan Zdziarski breaks Apple's security measures pretty swiftly, in a series of Youtube videos. You know what frustrates us? Someone with their hands on a totally sweet piece of gadgetry who clearly doesn't know what to do with it. Such is the case in the video below, which seems to depict a gentlemen fondling Sony Ericsson's next XPERIA installment, the X2. Western Digital just announced two new high-capacity 2.5" HD offering respectively 750 GB and 1 TB. Belonging to the Blue the rotation speed is set to 5400 rpm and they will be available in external USB case for respectively 189.99 USD and 249.99 USD. However, you should not already dream of installing such units in your MacBook. Indeed, those 2 drives have 12.5 mm thickness, making them almost impossible to be installed in most current notebook usually requiring 2.5" HD with a 9.5mm max thickness.

Auch wenn Apple bislang immer wieder vehement behauptet, man baue kein Netbook, da man schon gar nicht wüsste, wie man einen Rechner für 500 US-Dollar herstellen kann, der nicht "ein Stück Müll" sei, verstummen die Stimmen nicht, die ein solches Netbook verhersagen. iTunes: Niedrige Albenverkäufe sollen durch App Store steigen
Wirklicher Gewinn wird mit Alben erwirtschaftet - das ist nicht erst seit dem iTunes Store so. In letzterem sind aber auch Songs einzeln erhältlich, die nicht als Single veröffentlicht wurden. Offering Movies on Flash Memory Support
Following Panasonic and Sony and their future program in Japan to distribute movies on micro SD support, Sonic Solutions and Widevine announced their goal to launch a similar system in USA by the end of the year. Their offer, known as "CinemaNow USB Movie Drives" will feature a USB key including all components: the movie, codec for playing the file and the dedicated application to display the movie. You will simply need to plug it to a PC (compatibility with Mac remains unclear) and the movie can be directly watched. Geocache-Grundausstattung: Geocaching, Maps, Compass Go & iGCT

Nehalem Mobile: Early 2010
Digitimes published some information obtained from different notebook manufacturers.
Intel should launch its new platform entitled Calpella between September 29th and October 23rd. They will release at the same time 3 new quad core CPUs whose clock speed will range between 1.6 and 2.0 GHz. We do not think that Apple will use such CPU. Of course, having a quad core iMac or MacBook Pro might be interesting, but with such low frequency it might not be such a performance gain as most application remain at best optimized for 2 cores.Things should become more interesting in Q1 2010 as the first Arrandale CPU (engraved at 32 nm with integrated GPU) should be launched, and it could be a perfect timing for Apple for refreshing the current MacBook Pro offer, as well as the MacBook air.

Palm Pre drops to $100 at Best Buy
Best Buy this weekend quietly cut the price of the Palm Pre to $100 when paired with a two-year contract. The discount slashes the multi-touch smartphone's cost in half and comes less than two months after the phone was released. No explanation has been given for the move, including whether or not the new price is permanent or a temporary sale.
