Add GPS to your camera for iPhoto Places
Although it isn't true GPS like the iPhone 3G (and possibly the unannounced iPod touch), Eye-Fi is now offering Apple's iPhoto users a way to organize their pictures in Places without having a GPS-enabled camera.
Places is an iPhoto feature that organizes photos around where they are taken and arranges them in an easy to decipher Google Map. Although you can manually tag photos to the general area where they were taken later, the process is tedious and time consuming.

AudioMicro library gains 55,000 sound effects
AudioMicro says it has licensed over 55,000 sound effects from The Hollywood Edge to add to its Online Stock Music and Sound Effects Library. The effects come from Soundelux, a studio with numerous films to its credit, such as Braveheart and Kill Bill. Public and professional access is charged on a by-the-minute basis or via subscription; effects can be acquired individually or in bulk.

iPhone margins allowing Apple to cut Mac prices?

RingtoneStudio 2.0 for BlackBerry adds visual edits
PocketMac has released RingtoneStudio 2.0 for BlackBerry, a upgraded version of its tool for generating and editing ringtones. The software supports unprotected music formats, or QuickTime-compatible video types. Files can be dragged and dropped in to the app, where users can then select specific portions of a track.

OpenXML Converter localization problems preventing launch

T-Mobile myTouch 3G preorders now shipping, arriving, being touched
If you've preordered one o' them fancy new myTouch 3Gs, check your mailbox, front porch, back door, administrative assistant, or dirty, thieving neighbor -- because it might be there. T-Mobile said that preorders would be shipping at the tail end of July, and sure enough, some folks are starting to get lucky; plebes without preorders will still need to wait until August 5, though, so, you know, either sit there and drool or shout nasty remarks about how you'd rather have a Hero in the meanwhile.

Nimbuzz intros Mac client, 1.3 update for iPhone
Nimbuzz has launched an update to its instant messaging and dialing app for the iPhone, as well as a new Mac version. Kodak's 1080p Zi8 HD pocket camcorder in hand
Yeah, you don't really need 1080p in a compact like this. You know it, we know it. Kodak probably knows it too. Still, it's always pretty wild to pick up a little piece like this and know it can shoot to a native resolution that our parents can't even pronounce. The new Zi8 is certainly bulky for a "pocket" camcorder, but makes up for it by sporting a rechargeable battery, line-in audio jack, HDMI out, 2.5-inch LCD and even keeping the pop-out USB plug around for old times sake. The perks of face recognition for improved exposure and gyroscope-based image stabilization are also pretty snazzy at this $180 pricepoint. We still aren't quite sold on the way

iPhone SMS vulnerability nears public exposure
Apple has yet to fix a key iPhone vulnerability the day before it is publicly exposed, notes security researcher Charlie Miller. At the beginning of July, Miller announced the preliminary details of an SMS exploit which could theoretically be used to assume control over a remote iPhone. Nokia N97 'Mini' gets pictured in the wild?
We've already heard talk of a Nokia N97 Mini (or Mini N97, if you will) from folks who should know what the situation is, and it looks like things have now gotten more interesting still, with some seemingly legitimate pictures of the rumored device finding their way to us that show it out and about with its bigger brother. As you can see above and in another pic after the break, the device is slightly smaller and slightly slimmer than the regular N97, and it's also received a few subtle design changes, particularly on the back, where the camera has lost its sliding cover. Pre-ordered Viliv X70s delayed to August 11, new customers might have to wait till September
The way we hear it, there are plenty of Viliv fans out there disappointed that Dynamism missed its promised delivery date for pre-ordered X70 units this week. HP reportedly beginning production of new 10.1-inch, 11.6-inch netbooks / ultralights
This is about as early and unofficial as it gets, but DigiTimes is reporting that HP has contracted Quanta to begin production of an apparently all new 11.6-inch netbook in August, and another new 10.1-inch before the end of the year, which SlashGear rightly speculates could well be CULV ultralights rather than standard "netbooks." That's further bolstered by the fact that HP has separately contracted Inventec to build a revision to its current 10.1-inch netbook at the end of September. Windows 7 activation already cracked with Lenovo's OEM license key
Sort of funny that Microsoft made a big show of handing over the Windows 7 RTM code to Lenovo and other manufacturers last week -- the first activation crack for the OS has just appeared, and it's based on Lenovo's OEM license key. Oops. The crack apparently works with 32- and 64-bit versions of Windows 7 Ultimate, and it apparently passes Genuine Advantage, so things are looking good for all you wannabe pirates out there. Amazon druckt 40.000 alte Bücher nach
Amazon und die Universität Michigan wollen 400.000 seltene Bücher aus der Uni-Bibliothek nachdrucken. Die Zusammenarbeit wurde ermöglicht, weil ein seit 2004 laufendes Gemeinschaftsprojekt von mehreren Universitäten mit Google die nicht mehr urheberrechtlich geschützten Werke ohnehin schon eingescannt hatte. Senators to introduce legislation banning texting while driving
It's already been banned by a number of states and the District of Columbia, but a group of Democratic senators led by New York's Charles Schumer are now set to introduce legislation that would ban texting while driving throughout the United States. Intel warnt vor Firmware-Fehler in neuen SSDs
Nach Beginn der Auslieferung seiner neuen SSDs (Solid State Drive) "Postville" in 34-nm-Fertigung vergangene Woche musste Intel diese nun anscheinend wieder einstellen. A robot hobbyist has developed an application that lets the iPhone 3GS function as the brain and face of miniature humanoid robot, Robochan.
It's made from a Kondo KHR-2HV humanoid which has had its head replaced by an iPhone which controls the machine.

Apple execs often say they’re as proud of the products they don’t release as they are of those they do - and if you’d like to take a look at some of those unreleased prototypes, then good news for you in form of a new book from influential designer Harmut Esslinger of Frog Design.
The book offers images of numerous previously unseen Apple prototypes, (bigger image after the jump). SAP hebt nach Gewinnsteigerung Jahresprognose an
SAP hat seine vorläufigen Ergebnisse für das zweite Quartal des Geschäftsjahres 2009 veröffentlicht. Infineon kann Verluste deutlich reduzieren
Infineon hat seine Verluste im dritten Quartal (bis 30. Juni) deutlich senken können. Gegenüber dem Vorjahresquartal reduzierte sich der Fehlbetrag von 150 Millionen Euro auf jetzt 23 Millionen Euro. Onlinehandel 2009 erstmals umsatzstärkster Versandhandelszweig
Der Bundesverband des Deutschen Versandhandels e.V. (bvh) hat ein Zwischenergebnis der repräsentativen Verbraucherstudie "Distanzhandel in Deutschland 2009" vorgestellt. Demnach legt der Gesamtumsatz der Versandhandelsbranche dieses Jahr um 1,7 Prozent auf 29,1 Milliarden Euro zu, während der Online-Umsatz mit Waren 2009 voraussichtlich um 15 Prozent auf 15,4 Milliarden Euro klettert. Damit hat der Onlinehandel am gesamten Versandhandel erstmals einen Anteil von mehr als 50 Prozent. Die Studie wird im Auftrag des Verbands von TNS Infratest durchgeführt.

Sonic CD: Retro Engine erleichtert 2D-Spielentwicklung für das iPhone

Belkin Kopfhörer-Adapter: Tasten für den iPod shuffle
Nach Scosche kommt nun auch Belkin mit einem mit Schaltern ausgerüsteten Kopfhörer-Adapter für die aktuelle iPod shuffle-Generation auf den Markt. Mangels Bedienelementen am Gerät kann der Shuffle normalerweise nur in Verbindung mit den von Apple mitgelieferten Ohrhörern mit Minischalter benutzt werden. Microsoft giving Europeans with Windows XP and Vista choice of browser, too
As it turns out, it won't just be Windows 7 that'll be giving Europeans a choice of what web browser to use. In fact, the lengths that Microsoft is going to appease the European Commission is quite extreme. Ars Technica did some digging and here's the fine print of the proposal. Within three to six months of the EC's approval, an update will be sent out to Europeans with Windows XP and Vista, labeled "high priority" or "important." User who install the update and have Internet Explorer as the default browser will see the ballot screen on next log in, which will show up to ten different browsers with at least a 0.5 percent share of the market in the European Economic Area (EEA). Hynix Flash Memory Chips Certified by Apple
According to digitimes, Apple validated memory chips produced by Hynix with a 41 nm engraving process. It is the first step required to potentially see flash storage its produced by this manufacturer included in Apple devices. This news comes almost at the same time than the contract signed between Apple and Toshiba. It seems that Apple is trying to collect s much flash memory providers as possible to prevent any shortage for one of the main component of ipod and iPhone, and notebook too in the future. Apple is probably also trying to save money by putting all flash memory manufacturers in competition, to bring prices down.

While Microsoft tried to release a browser-free European version of Windows 7, the company was pushed by the EC to offer the choice to users to select their favorite browser during installation of the system.
Developers of Opera browser would like to extend this procedure to Mac OS X. Mac OS X 10.5.8 Almost Ready?
According to Macrumors, Apple sent to developers a new beta version of Mac OS X 10.5.7 flagged 9L30. Differences between the new version and the previous version are limited to 2 minor bugs related to awake from sleep and plugging external monitor.So, if no major bugs are reported in the coming days, one could expect the future release of Mac OS X 10.5.8. It should be the last update before the launch of Snow Leopard, so the last Mac OS X version for PPC-based Macs. Apple will continue to support Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard for years, especially for security updates and other minor bug fixes, but 10.5.! should be the last version of Mac OS X natively supporting PPC-based computers.

GV Mobile goes to Cydia on Jailbroken iPhones within hours
Kinda like prohibition isn't it? Take away something the people want and those people will be forced to circumvent authority to get what they want. In the case of GV Mobile and the larger Google Voice, Apple AT&T banned them from the App store so they are packing up and going to unlawful grounds. GV Mobile hit Cydia a few hours after it was officially banned from the App Store. The developer, Sean Kovacs, is also working on a Web App that will also work on the Pre.

Google Voice app GV Mobile ported to jailbroken iPhones, web app version in the works
So well-mannered, straight-laced iPhone users got a pretty big slap in the face yesterday by way of Apple's (and AT&T's, no doubt) total Google Voice rejection. Looks like jailbreakers are picking up the pieces, as GV Mobile developer Sean Kovacs -- whose app was in the iTunes store for some time before being yanked yesterday -- has ported the Voice client over to Cydia free of charge, although donations are gladly accepted. Even more interesting, but less concrete, Kovacs said he was already working on a web app version, possibly for submission to Palm's app catalog. No word on the fate of GVdialer, an app that was also unceremoniously pulled, but we wouldn't be surprised if it followed in similar footsteps.

Aabar Investment's takes 32 percent stake in Virgin Galactic, we're still not cool enough to go to space
United Arab Emirates company Aabar Investments and today announced that it would be taking a 32 percent stake in Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic space tourism venture, a deal worth about $280 million dollars. More Nikon D300s sightings in lead up to rumored July 30th announcement
Nikon's D300s seems to be having a hard time staying out of the viewfinder of other cameras, as the DSLR has popped up both in a nondescript close-up shot and in the hands of the president of a Nikon distributor at a Nikon Club gather in the Philippines. Same observations as last time, from what we can tell it's got the same body as the D300 but with holes that suggest a mic input below the logo, although we've seen hints of a SD card slot in previous leaks. New Flagship Graphic Card from AMD/ATI
ATI announced the new version of its Pro-oriented high-end graphic card.
the FirePro V8750 is an evolution of the previous V8700, and the main difference is the VRAM. the amount jumps from 1 GB of DDR5 clocked at 850 MHz to 2 GB clocked at 900 MHz. So, AMD can then use the marketing factor: the graphic card with the largest bandwidth in the world. Of course, it is not designed as a consumer electronics product, as it will cost you around 1,800 USD, and there is not report of a potential compatibility with our Macs.

Not long after we first heard about Viewsonic's latest VOT130 and VOT132 nettops, the gang at Netbook News have gotten some hands-on time with the hardware.
