FutureMark: Mac faster than Windows on web
Despite stereotypes, Macs are typically faster than Windows PCs on the web, according to data from FutureMark. Best known for its 3DMark benchmark suite, the company says that Apple's systems are about 5 to 10 percent faster on average in its Peacekeeper web code test than Windows computers with equivalent hardware. Nintendo's Iwata says Vitality Sensor is coming "not too late" in 2010
We know, it's been tough waiting for word of a release date for Nintendo's Wii Vitality Sensor. Almost as tough as figuring out what it actually does. Sonos Controller iPhone app adds cover art, info view
Sonos has released an update to its iPhone app that works with the company's multi-room music systems. UBS raises AAPL target to $170, pushes buy rating

At least one bank is planning to allow check deposits via iPhone, says the New York Times. Australian news just in: local history buffs are up in arms over a new Apple retail store, part of a new shopping centre development that’s going to see the demolition of one of Melbourne's finest examples of art deco architecture from the 1930s.

Irish eyes aren't smiling as iPhone 3GS supplies constrained
Apple just can’t make enough iPhone 3GS units to meet demand, with the latest shortages reported in Ireland, where O2 says demand is much higher than supply.
This follows similar reports emanating from Australia last week, where all Apple’s local carriers also claim demand to be outstripping supply. The below 8GB iPhone 3GS reference would seem like a normal web designer slip-up if BGR hadn't found some more 8GB iPhone 3GS information last week. Apple's tablet means more education as e-Books prepare for a big-screen future
With a solid one-in-four (27.3 per cent) of computers going into schools and other educational institutions across Europe being Apple-made, it’s no surprise that education’s a key market for the company.

Twin UBS analysts agree Apple inks Verizon for 'future data-centric product' - anyone need a tablet?
There’s always a danger when dealing with rumour that far-fetched tales begin to sprout their own wings; but when a leading analyst’s firm has two separate analysts referring to the same rumour in different reports, then you know the heat’s turning up.
The analysts at UBS clearly think the Apple tablet rumour has legs. UBS analyst Phillip Huang today downgraded RIMM stock to Neutral from buy and cut his target price, albeit by just two dollars.

Samsung ST1000 GPS-enabled camera appears in blurrycam shot
We've been waiting for some more compact cameras with integrated GPS features to hit the market, and this blurry shot of an upcoming Samsung ST1000 gives us a little hope. It's actualy looking like a pretty hot piece of kit in addition to the geotagging features, with a 12 megapixel sensor with ISO 4800 sensitivity behind a stabilized 5x zoom lens, 3.5-inch touchscreen with gesture support, face detection that prioritizes the most-common faces, and WiFi support all cooked in. Tainell kicks out Atom-powered T500 MID for China
Well, it looks like folks in search of an alternative to Viliv's S5 MID now have another option -- in China, at least, where Tainell has just rolled out its new T500 handheld. Like the S5, this one packs a 5-inch display and the usual Atom Z510 processor, along with some decent enough specs all around, including 1GB of RAM, a 32GB SSD, a built-in webcam, integrated Bluetooth, GPS, and 3G, and Windows XP for an OS. WinMo 6.5 build 23022 caught on video, in all its finger-friendly glory
It's been a hot minute since we first laid eyes on those WinMo screen grabs featuring big ol' buttons at the bottom of the display -- signaling, we hoped, an all-around effort to minimize stylus use in the mobile OS -- and now we have a video for you that seems to further make the case. Mozilla has published the first alpha preview of Firefox 3.6. The upcoming release is codenamed Namoroka, and in its completed form should represent an intermediate step towards Firefox 3.7, a major browser upgrade expected sometime in 2010. Well, kids, we don't know if this is a typo, a Freudian slip, or both (or neither), but according to this handy graphic on Rogers' website the rumored 8GB iPhone 3GS exists -- if not for sale, at least for comparison. The below 8GB iPhone 3GS reference would seem like a normal web designer slip-up if BGR hadn't found some more 8GB iPhone 3GS information last week. Taken together, this all but confirms that there will be an 8GB iPhone 3GS, soon. It would also be surprising if Apple didn't kill the iPhone 3G line altogether once this is released for real. Civilization im App Store - NFL 2010 kommt nicht
Mit Civilization Revolution (3,99 Euro) ist die etwas kompaktere Konsolenversion des Spieleklassikers Sid Meier's Civilization jetzt für den iPod touch und das iPhone erhältlich. Das Strategiespiel bietet die Wahl zwischen 16 verschiedenen Völkern, von denen man das auserkorene erfolgreich führen muss. Google hat mit der Tradition gebrochen, Aufsichtsräten, die keine weitere Funktion im Unternehmen haben, keine Barvergütung zu zahlen. SPD schließt Sicherheitslücken in ihrem DNS-Server nur teilweise
Nach Berichten von Evildaystar und ZDNet über eklatante Sicherheitslücken im DNS-Server der SPD dns2.spd.de (IP 195.50.146.131) hat die Partei nun reagiert und die Lücken teilweise geschlossen. Der SPD-Server erlaubte die rekursive Auflösung von allen Domains aus dem gesamten Internet und ließ einen AXFR-Transfer von seinen autoritativen Domains wie spd.de, frankwaltersteinmeier.de und wahlkampf09.de zu.

SLI inoffiziell bei X38, X48 und P45 möglich?
Die Multi-GPU-Technologie SLI läuft eigentlich nur auf Nvidia-Chipsätzen. Wer dagegen ein Produkt von Intel einsetzt, muss entweder auf eine zweite Grafikkarte verzichten oder alternativ 3D-Beschleuniger von ATi einsetzen. Der X58-Chipsatz stellt die einzige Ausnahme dar, da für den Core-i7-Prozessor Nvidia kein entsprechendes Mainboard anbietet.

Apple und Google: Inoffizielle Vereinbarung gegen Abwerbung von Angestellten

Probleme mit MobileTV zum Start der Bundesliga
Seit einer Woche steht von T-Mobile mit "MobileTV Lite" eine Applikation zur Verfügung, über die Benutzer eines iPhone 3G und iPhone 3GS unterwegs Fernsehen und Übertragungen empfangen können. Die Lite-Version soll zeigen, auf was man sich ab Mitte August bei der Vollversion gefasst machen kann. Bad news for VAIO owners out there hoping to use Windows 7's XP mode or run any other hardcore virtual machine applications -- Sony disables the required hardware virtualization features of its laptops for "security reasons." That means XP Mode won't work on any VAIOs, but there's hope yet: Sony's Xavier Lauwaert says that the company will re-enable VT on "select models." Toshiba kündigt SDXC-Karten mit 64 GB für 2010 an
SD-Karten sind wohl das derzeit beliebteste Speicherkartenformat, aber gleichzeitig variantenreich und in mehreren Ausführungen verfügbar. Der Wunsch nach mehr Speicherplatz hat vor einiger Zeit eine weitere Erweiterung der SD-Spezifikation nötig gemacht, die zunächst einmal neue Inkompatibilitäten mit sich bringt. AT&T's upcoming handsets include BlackBerry 9700, Garmin-Asus nvifone G60
This "pre-launch" list of upcoming AT&T phones leaked out today, and it's pretty interesting -- in addition to the BlackBerry 9700, it also features the illusory Garmin-Asus nüvifone G60, which finally looks like it'll be coming to the US just a short 18 months after first being announced. iPhone: Live Events
Apple hat einen Live-Broadcast auf das iPhone "streamen" lassen. Am Freitag Abend, Ostküstenzeit, wurde ein Konzert der Band Underworld weltweit live für das iPhone und den iPod touch übertragen. Man vermutet die Sendung war ein Test für Apple's neues HTTP Streaming Protocol. Aufzeichnungen des Konzerts in hervorragender Qualität gibt es unter http://iphone.akamai.com. Ein anderer Live-Broadcast, der Start der Bundesliga-Saison 2009/10 mit der Mobile TV-Apps der Telekom auf dem iPhone brachte jedoch einige Probleme mit sich. Die technische Infrastruktur war dem Massenandrang von iPhone-Nutzern offensichtlich nicht gewachsen.
