Microsoft revenue plummets in spring
Microsoft this afternoon reported a steep drop in its financial health for the spring triggered by its most important businesses. The Windows developer experienced its first-ever sequential drop in revenue and saw its revenue fall 17 percent year-over-year to $13.1 billion. The company's net income also declined by a sharp 29 percent compared to spring 2008, landing at $3.05 billion.

AT&T CEO admits iPhone won't be exclusive forever
It may not be all that shocking from a common sense point of view, but AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson's statement that "there will be a day when you are not exclusive with the iPhone" is still quite a departure from anything he's said in the past and, given the stakes involved, pretty darn notable. That word came at Fortune's now happening Brainstorm: Tech conference, where Stephenson unsurprisingly didn't elaborate on any negotiations with Apple, and only went so far as to say that he thinks AT&T's partnership with Apple "works really, really well -- maybe as well as any strategic partnership we have." Flip philosophical as iPod touch primes to eat the casual video market
So, there's all these stories in the ether claiming the future iPod touch - perhaps even the iPod nano - will host cameras video cameras capable of still photography, to be a little more accurate.
Now, we're not ones to comment on rumour or speculation. Well, that may not be entirely true, but fortunately, Flip’s head of marketing, Simon Fleming-Wood, is prepared to put up some arguments.
Back in the olden days of just very recently, Fleming-Wood waxed sanguine at Apple’s iPod Flip threat. Speaking to a US newspaper, he poo-poohed the threat of a video camera equipped iPhone 3GS, saying these devices weren't sufficiently focused on video.

South Korea slaps Qualcomm with massive fine for anticompetitive behavior

FontGenius 1.0 identifies unknown typefaces

Looks like the kids in Taiwan will be able to take everyone's favorite Ion-based nettop for a spin sometime soon. Except, instead of being known as the Acer AspireRevo, its been rebranded as a Gateway QX2800. Actually, that isn't the only difference -- the CPU on this new guy has been upgraded to an Atom 330 dual core, and storage is now 500GB. SkypeCap für Mac in neuer Version

MacBooks 91% of premium notebook market

Has your Palm Pre learned to do the twist?
No, that's not a Blurrycam shot of a rumored Palm Pre follow-up with a rotating screen. It's actually one of the more extreme cases of the Palm Pre "twisting" right out of its shell, which, as far as we can tell, still seems to be a fairly rare occurrence. This particular Pre belongs to one Royer, who was apparently able to get it replaced without too much hassle, but other folks are also reporting some slight screen wobble, and even a few cracks appearing here and there. Somewhat interestingly, Royer says that the Sprint repair center he went to said they're not allowed to try to fix the Palm Pre, and are instead instructed to simply exchange it for a new one. 802.11n Wi-Fi to go unchanged in final spec

So we've been playing with the Devotec Industries Solar Sound Bluetooth speaker system for a couple days now, and we've got to say we're pretty impressed -- we just wish it could run directly (and indefinitely) off the solar panel, instead of requiring an internal battery that takes 12-24 hours to charge from the sun or four hours to charge off USB. US Airways launching Gogo in-flight internet next year, to show WiFi logo when booking
Our wildest, most frenzied dreams are coming true, airline by airline. As Aircell steps in to infiltrate yet another legacy carrier here in America, US Airways has finally caved to the pressures of being an airline in 2009 by announcing its intentions to get Gogo on a select few of its planes. Tomtom verbucht erneut Gewinnrückgang

Apple's iPhone-powered devices country sales estimates revealed
Apple’s iPod touch and iPhones continue to lead the market in the US while becoming increasingly popular in Western Europe and Asia, the latest AdMob statistics reveal.
Freshly-published statistics for June 2009 offer a pretty good view on the distribution of iPhone OS devices by country. AdMob the world’s largest mobile advertising platform, uses its own network data in combination with Apple’s own disclosed figures to make its estimates.
The good news - and let’s face it it’s obvious, is that worldwide adoption of Apple devices continues to grow. North America remains a key market for Apple’s handheld products, you’ll find 58 per cent of iPhone and iPod touch users there.

Logitech schreibt weiterhin rote Zahlen

Erster französischer Apple Store eröffnet noch dieses Jahr
Die Tatsache, dass in Paris ein Apple Store eröffnet wird, ist schon länger bekannt und aus Cupertino bestätigt. Trickbetrug: Kartoffel statt iPod
Die Trickbetrüger, die seit mehreren Wochen in Norddeutschland gutgläubigen Käufern statt teurer Elektrogeräte nur Kartoffeln verkauften, sind endlich gefasst. iTunes-Datenbank: Apple verzichtet auf rechtliche Schritte gegen Bluwiki
Bluwiki erlaubt es jedem, ein Wiki zu erstellen und dies wurde von Unbekannten dazu genutzt, zu beschreiben, wie sich Dateien mit iPod und iPhone synchronisieren lassen, ohne iTunes zu verwenden. Blue-ray interagiert mit iPhone
Bei der nächsten Version von "Fast & Furious" als Blue-ray-Disc sollen neue Features iPhone und iPod touch integrieren. Laut Presseberichten arbeitet Universal Pictures Home Entertainment an einem System, über das Nutzer von iPhone und iTouch interaktive Inhalte auf der Disc künftig mit Hilfe eines "Profile 2.0-Players" auf ihr Mobilgerät herunterzuladen können. Überdies soll es möglich sein, die Apple-Geräte als virtuelle Fernbedienung zu benutzen und weitere Informationen über den Film abzurufen, während dieser angesehen wird. Beispielsweise die Special Edition von "Fast and Furious" als Doppel-Disc soll eine virtuelle Garage enthalten, deren PS-starke Inhalte via iPhone angesteuert und aus allen Blickrichtungen betrachtet werden können. Der Wert eines Unternehmens kann zwar nur bedingt daraus abgeleitet werden, wie viel es kosten würde, alle Aktien auf dem Markt aufzukaufen, dennoch finden regelmäßig Vergleiche des Börsenwertes großer Unternehmen statt. Ebay meldet Gewinneinbruch im zweiten Quartal
Ebay hat im zweiten Quartal einen Gewinneinbruch von 29 Prozent verbucht. Der Profit des Auktionshauses sank um 133 Millionen Dollar auf 327 Millionen Dollar oder 0,25 Dollar je Aktie. Adobe untersucht Zero-Day-Lücke in Flash
Adobe untersucht Meldungen von Forschern, wonach eine Sicherheitslücke in Adobe Flash besteht, durch die ein Angreifer Schadcode auf einem ungepatchten System einschleusen kann. Besides, HRP-4C is already hitched, apparently, to her creator Kazuhito Yokoi who appeared at the Osaka fashion show dressed in a tuxedo. Looking wobbly, perplexed, and creepy as hell, HRP-4C bravely slipped on a helmet of taffeta and lace in what's being called her first professional runway appearance. Intel Officially Unveiled its New X25-M SSD
Intel officially unveiled the new X25-M SSD series. We already knew about the 34 nm engraving process used to produce the memory chips, the huge price cut 60% down, and the reading performance around 250 MB/s, and writing speed now at 85 MB/s; but now those SSDs will be faster in random writing process for small files (4 KB). The new X25-M can now manage 6000 files per second vs 3000 for he previous generation. This is a critical point as most modern OS, including Mac OS X, are massively writing small files on drives to speed up their processes. Intel also announced the future support of the TRIM command on its SSD. It will be added to existing SSDs via a firmware update from Windows 7 release. For Mac OS X, we can only expect that Apple will support too at least in Snow Leopard, as some Apple hardware are already shipping with SSD.

An old rumor just came reappeared: Apple would release a Mac Tablet this fall and Verizon would be its partner to launch it, as they did it in the past with AT&T for the iPhone.Frankly, we are not excited at all with such announcement, and even a bit scared. Security official suspended, turned over to authorities in apparent connection to Foxconn employee's suicide
We suspect there's more than a few chapters left in the story of 25-year old Foxconn factory worker who died in an apparent suicide this month, following the disappearance of a prototype next-generation iPhone. The latest newsbit, this time care of Bloomberg, is that a security official for Hon Hai, a company with 72 percent stake in Foxconn, has been suspended and turned over to Chinese government authorities, with the suspicion / implication here that there's a direct correlation between this and the suicide. iPod sales not tapering off, they are just getting a new name
Silicon Alley Insider has another interesting chart illustrating what many probably have suspected. iPod sales aren't really tapering off, they are just being distributed to iPod touch and iPhones.
If you look at the iPhone as an iPod (which it is - remember Jobs said it was the best iPod Apple has ever made), Apple's "Pocket Products" are on a steady upward trajectory. People are just opting for iPods with higher capabilities and Apple is artificially classifying these products differently.
