No porn in the App Store

Apple spokesperson Tom Neumayr told Macworld: Apple will not distribute applications that contain inappropriate content. The developer of this application added inappropriate content directly from their server after the application had been approved and distributed, and after the developer had subsequently been asked to remove some offensive content. This was a direct violation of the terms of the iPhone Developer Program. The application is no longer available on the App Store. Oh well, as Macenstein said: Now you'll only be able to go to the 10 billion different porn "web apps".

Intel to begin to release game changing SSDs in two weeks

The Inquirer reports that Intel is set to release a new round of SSDs which might bring hard drive replacements into the hands of many more laptop owners.  We've been told that with these new 34nm NAND SSDs, users can expect higher performance, higher capacities, and most importantly, lower prices.  Amongst the 34nm offerings hot off the production line will be a 320GB drive, plus 160GB and 80GB capacities too. But there very well could be more. Our sources tell us there will be drives big enough to replace the HDDs in most, if not all laptops. That is a pretty bold statement, especially with retail 500GB laptop hard drives

French iPhone Crème Brulée

According to French blog Nowhere Else, a white iPhone 3GS, while under a lot of CPU load, left faded brown streaks on the back plastic cover.  According to the site, the user said: I did the test several apps warning radars in the car when I was a passenger, the apps using the GPS chip as well as 3G, after a while my iPhone was very hot but not burning hot. more picts below

Michael Jackson posthumously tops iTunes charts

In the wake of Michael Jackson's death, fans are lining up to listen to his music in record numbers.  In fact, the current iTunes Top 25 has songs from the Jackson's songs 19 times.  Nine of the top 10 albums are also Michael's.  No previous artist, living or dead, has achieved that level of popularity on the music service since it opened in 2003.  Oh, and he is 15 of the top 15 on Amazon.

Dock Exposé launches in 10A394 Snow Leopard Software Update

Snow Leopard Beta Testers were greeted with a surprise Friday night.  Instead of having to burn a dual layer DVD and install the newest Snow Leopard build manually, Apple delivered the newest release via a 700MB Software Update.  We got to playing around with Dock Exposé and found it to be pretty much as advertised (below). New in Snow Leopard: Activity Monitor shows you exactly what is killing your CPU

Before, you'd just see that Safari was nailing your CPU. Now there's a more specific breakdown, which shows the true culprit.  Plug-in sandboxing is good thing.  It is especially helpful when a plug-in is not responding and you want to quit it without killing your browser session (below).     This has been around for a few weeks but comes in very handy.

Dude drops iPhone3GS into pool while recording video...still works?!?!

This is pretty incredibleIF true. iPhone 3GS user KhenaKara accidentally dropped his iPhone 3GS into a pool while video recording and amazingly it kept recording. Since he was recording you can watch the whole experience in the video below. Days after the event the phone still works fine. It seems Apple may have taken some steps to make the device more watertight. A friend dropped my iPhone 2G in a puddle and it stopped functioning immediately. Also, the mic kept working as well.  Even the autofocus and the light adjustments were working at the bottom of the pool.  You know what they say"Don't try this at home".  Drop happens about half way through the clip.

UK ATMs set to offer WiFi access, free for BT and iPhone users

BT Broadband customers and UK iPhone owners, rejoice - some 2,500 ATM machines near you will soon be converted to serve as free WiFi hotspots, courtesy of BT Openzone and Cashbox, perhaps the most mismatched pair of commercial metaphors ever put together. The initial rollout starts with 10 machines this week and numbers are expected to steadily increase. iPhone 3GS takes plunge in pool while shooting video... and lives to tell the tale

Now, we're hoping this isn't some elaborate hoax perpetrated on the kind citizens of the internet, because if it's real, it's amazing. Here's the deal: a man capturing video poolside with his iPhone 3GS somehow loses control of the device and ends up dunking the entire phone while filming. Miraculously, he manages to fish out the handset and it's still rolling. We don't know what the lifespan was / is beyond this clip, but obviously long enough to upload the video or transfer it to a computer. Sprint launching BlackBerry Tour on July 20th?

When the teaser went up, we knew the hotly anticipated BlackBerry Tour for Sprint was right around the corner, but the only hint of a release date was "later this summer." Lucky for us, the, um, insiders at Inside Sprint Now have clarified the vague window for all of us mere mortals. They confidently state that the Tour will be available on July 20th, just over a week after the purported release date on Big Red. This hasn't yet been confirmed by Sprint, but we're sure they want this baby out sooner rather than late

Edelweiss PC casemod goes above and beyond insanity

Sure, these days, it can be pretty hard to get super-stoked over a casemod after all, they're basically a dime a dozen. Palm has done its darnedest to keep the riffraff away from webOS development while it finishes up its Mojo SDK for webOS development, but the floodgates have finally opened with an opportune leak of Mojo to Torrent-vill. Ansturm auf erste Pornografie-App für iPhone legt Server lahm

Seit Mittwoch hat Apple die Ablehnung gegen pornografische Anwendungen im App Store augenscheinlich aufgegeben, obwohl Steve Jobs zum Start des Anwendungs-Shops sieben Kategorien ausgeschlossen hat - darunter auch Pornografie. Mit der Anwendung "Hottest Girls" erlaubte es Apple zum ersten Mal einem Entwickler nackte Modelle in seiner App zu zeigen. Dies führte dazu, dass aufgrund des hohen Interesses an der Applikation der Server des Entwicklers kurz vorm dem Kollaps stand. Um einen Absturz zu vermeiden, hat der Anbieter Allen Leung die Applikation entfernt.

Dock Exposé launches in 10A394 Snow Leopard Software Update

Snow Leopard Beta Testers were greeted with a surprise Friday night.  Instead of having to burn a dual layer DVD and install the newest Snow Leopard build manually, Apple delivered the newest release via a 700MB Software Update.  We got to playing around with Dock Exposé and found it to be pretty much as advertised (below). The Inquirer reports that Intel is set to release a new round of SSDs which might bring hard drive replacemnts into the hands of many more laptop owners.  We've been told that with these new 34nm NAND SSDs, users can expect higher performance, higher capacities, and most importantly, lower prices.  Amongst the 34nm offerings hot off the production line will be a 320GB drive, plus 160GB and 80GB capacities too. Sugar Labs' "Sugar on a Stick" OS available for any and all

The last time we heard from Sugar Labs, its "Sugar on a Stick" project (a tidied-up build of Sugar OS which can be run live from a CD or USB drive) was just entering beta. Apparently all the company needed to take that version to a release-ready state was a month (give or take).
