Alleged shot of Motorola Morrison for T-Mobile has us swinging wildly betwixt love and disgust
Is the world ready for a white, black, and shiny metallic blue Android phone? Well, the world may not have to be -- but we strongly suspect this picture claiming to be the Motorola "Morrison" for T-Mobile USA is real since it exactly matches the thumbnail in that leaked roadmap from a while back. We can only guess from the coloration that this is likely going to be billed as a youth device -- and Motorola's said in the past that it wants to build its Android lineup around a social networking platform, which all the kiddies are into these days -- so we're thinking this could end up being positioned below the G1 and its contemp

New PwnageTool released for iPhone 3.0
The unofficial iPhone Dev Team has released a new version of PwnageTool for the Mac, updated to jailbreak devices running the iPhone 3.0 firmware. AU Optronics shows touch e-paper display
Taiwan's AU Optronics showed off an electronic book reader that combines a low-power electronic paper and a touch panel, a first for this type of product at the Display Taiwan 2009 show. AT&T iPhone pre-orders reach hundreds of thousands

iPhone 3G S activations are being delayed by the sheer volume of traffic, an iTunes error message indicates. "Your activation requires additional time to complete," the software is now telling some people syncing their devices for the first time. Palm to ramp up webOS developer access
Palm on Friday said it hoped to address a dearth of apps for the Pre and webOS by stepping up the pace of its early access program for developers. Palm says no webOS SDK till end of Summer
So, you want to be a webOS developer, huh? That's great kid, we're excited for you, but there's a catch: Palm won't be handing out an actual SDK to most people until the end of Summer. In a post just published on the Palm Developer Network Blog, reps from the company say that although they've been cranking away on getting their SDK in shipshape (the version given out to current devs is apparently very rough), they won't have anything for a broader audience anytime soon. iPhone launches on new Italian carrier, O2 sales up

Mit dem heutigen Verkaufsstart des iPhone 3G S in den T-Mobile Filialen bietet der Online-Shop 3Gstore.de ein Vertragsfreies Apple-Handy an. Im Shop gibt es das iPhone 3G S mit 16 GByte für 999 Euro und die 32-GByte-Version kostet 1099 Euro. Für ein Bundel aus iPhone 3G S (32 GByte), Display-Schutzfolien, Silicon-Hülle und Reiseladegerät verlangt der Anbieter 1249 Euro. Hinzu kommen noch die Versandkosten von 6,99 Euro. An diesem Wochenende gibt es eine Sonderaktion auf dem Heroic-Server im Online-Rollenspiel DOFUS, wie Hersteller Ankama mitteilt. So würden Drops am 20. und 21. Juni auf dem Server “Oto Mustam” verdoppelt, was dem sechsfachen Betrag eines normalen Servers entspräche.

Activision threatens to drop Sony if Sony doesn't drop PS3 and PSP prices
Activision CEO Bobby Kotick says he sees the number of games bought per console slowing if the price on the PlayStation 3 doesn't go down, and that his company (the largest independent game developer in the world, thanks in part to that sweet, sweet Blizzard cash) might consider dropping the PS3 and PSP in 2010 or 2011 if things don't improve. Verfassungsgericht lehnt Beschwerde gegen Hackerparagraf ab
Das Bundesverfassungsgericht lehnte in einer heute veröffentlichten Entscheidung drei Verfassungsbeschwerden (Az 2 BvR 2233/07, 2 BvR 1151/08 und 2 BvR 1524/08) gegen den sogenannten Hackerparagrafen §202c StGB ab. Keiner der drei Kläger sei von dem Paragrafen betroffen. Daher nehme das Gericht die Beschwerden nicht zur Entscheidung an.

Dell Vostro 1220 leaks out, looks as cool as it sounds
It's hard to hate on Dell's Vostro lineup: cheap is cheap, and there's nothing wrong with that. Wie AppleInsider berichtet, hat Apple im neuen iPhone 3GS ein leistungsfähigen Prozessor verbaut. Der eingesetzte Samsung S5PC100 basiert auf die Cortex A8 Architektur, kann aber noch höher als mit dem im iPhone 3GS verwendeten 600 MHz getaktet werden. iPhone's Notes app let you change font, sorta, kinda
So now Notes you type on your iPhone get synced back to your Mac (and vice versa). Took me a few minutes to find where they went though: in OSX Mail, under Reminders/Notes/On my Mac.
The fun is that the notes that get synced to the iPhone retain the formatting you might have applied in Mail (using the Font palette - COMMAND-T), like font face, style, size and color. or at least some of the formatting.
For example, the Mail note below (left) had a line in Times italic 16, one in Verdana 14 red and the last one in Apple Chancery 18 blue. As you can see, the iPhone (right) kept Times italic 16 and Verdana 14 red but discarded Apple Chancery (weirdly, it kept the 18 size but lost the blue)

Touch & iPhone: Verbesserte Suche in Songs
Das Update 3.0 für den iPod touch und das iPhone bringt eine praktische Verbesserung beim Suchen innerhalb von Musiktiteln oder Hörbüchern. Apple nennt die Funktion, mit der man voran springt wenn man mit dem Finger über die Zeitleiste streicht Scrubbing. Vor allem bei langen Titeln oder Hörbüchern ging dieses "Vor- bzw. Zurückspulen" bislang ausschließlich recht schnell von statten und die Suche nach einer besonderen Stelle im Titel war alles andere als einfach.
Seit dem Softwareupdate auf OS 3.0 hat man nun die Möglichkeit, hier neben den bekannten "100%" (sehr schnell) auch die Stufen "50%", "25%" oder "fein" anzuwählen um so wesentlich einfacher eine bestimmte Abspielposition zu finden. Man muss dazu lediglich den Finger auf dem Bildschirm nach unten ziehen, während man die Markierung für die Wiedergabeposition auf der Zeitleiste verschiebt.

Wie uns die Swisscom soeben mitgeteilt hat, ist der Verkauf des iPhone 3G S gut angelaufen. Absatzzahlen können aber natürlich noch keine konkreten genannt werden. Noch viele Orange-iPhones in Bern
Nach einem Bericht, den wir soeben von David aus Bern erhalten haben, soll der Orange-Shop beim Kornhausplatz noch «massenhaft Geräte» haben. David hat sich selbst vorhin ein iPhone 3G S geholt und der Store war «gähnend leer». David hatte keine Reservation gemacht und nach der Auskunft des Angestellten waren noch viele Geräte in beiden Grössen vorhanden. Wer also in Bern noch kein iPhone ergattern konnte, sollte ggf. mal beim Kornhausplatz vorbeischauen.

Millionenstrafe gegen Filesharer
Momentan sorgt ein Urteil gegen einen Filesharer in den USA für Schlagzeilen. Eine Frau namens Jammie Thomas-Rasset hatte den Dienst Kazaa benutzt, um sich 24 Lieder herunterzuladen. Die dadurch gesparten 25 Dollar kommen ihr jetzt aber teuer zu stehen. Der Richter verurteilte sie zur Zahlung von stolzen 1,92 Millionen Dollar. Es lag im Ermessen des Gerichtes, ob pro illegal bezogenem Lied 750 Dollar berechnet werden, oder ob bis zu 150.

SC Solothurn: Bereitgelegte Verträge für speditive Abwicklung
Der Swisscom Shop in Solothurn macht sich auf den iPhone-3G-S-Ansturm bereit. Wie Martin aus Gerlafingen meldet, habe ein Mitarbeiter des Solothurners Swisscom Shops eine Stunde vor Türöffnung des Shops angerufen und mitgeteilt, dass das iPhone abholbereit sei. Am heutigen Tag beginnt der offizielle Verkauf des neuen iPhone 3G S in acht Ländern. Seit etwas mehr als einer Woche laufen bereits die Vorbestellungen, wer also rechtzeitig geordert hat, bekommt mit etwas Glück heute bereits sein iPhone geliefert. Im Forum gibt es aber bereits die ersten Stimmen, dass es wohl bis zur Auslieferung doch Montag werden konnte. Auch Vertragsverlängerungen sind inzwischen auf dem Online-Angebot von T-Mobile

Microsoft hat ein Abkommen mit NBC Universal geschlossen, um den US-Fernsehsender beim Verkauf von Fernsehwerbung zu unterstützen. Heute bei vielen Shops kein freier iPhone-Verkauf
Wie uns Leser berichten, werden viele Swisscom- und Orange-Shops zuerst jene Kunden bedienen, welche im Vorfeld ein neues iPhone 3G S reserviert haben und vom Provider entsprechend anvisiert wurden. Es gibt deshalb bei vielen Swisscom- und Orange-Shops im ganzen Land heute keinen freien Verkauf des neuen iPhone 3G S.
Wer noch kein neues iPhone reserviert hat, kann dies nach wie vor machen - jedoch kann es dann etwa zwei Wochen dauern, bis diese Kunden beliefert werden.

Best Buy iPhone inventory posted to the Web
According to EverythingCafe, a Best Buy employee downloaded the entire iPhone 3G S inventory broken out by store and model, popped it on his USB stick and took it home. He/she then uploaded it to Google docs for all to see. If you are planning on hitting a Best Buy, you might want to see which store has the most iPhones in the model that you want before camping out on line.

Leaked Lenovo roadmap shows Calpella laptops coming January 2010?
Our compatriots at Engadget Chinese have happened upon what looks to be a roadmap for Lenovo's upcoming laptops between now and March 2010. Recently in the wild T400 is on there, slated for mid-July or so, with a pair of new SL models following in August. Für den iPod touch ist das Update auf das iPhone OS 3.0 bekanntlich kostenpflichtig. Well that was fast. Orange Boutique in Paris, France did a midnight release of the iPhone 3G S, and the gang at Rapid Repair were there to pick one up and subsequently rip their new toy to shreds. Supertalent Launches New SSD Models
Supertalent announced new series of SSDs, known as MasterDrive SX.
Those drives are based on 8 channels and features 128 MB cache memory for the controller (most likely from Samsung or Indilix). Regarding performance levels, the 64 GB model offers 220 MB/s and 110 MB/s in reading and writing mode respectively. Units featuring larger storage space (128 and 256 GB) will offer almost doubled writing speed (200 MB/s).Supertalent claims that those drives are particularly "green", draining only 0.15 W when idle and 0.5W in working mode. iPhone Internet Tethering: The New Cash Machine for Carriers? Not Necessarily.
As soon as Apple released the iPhone OS 3.0 to developers, and new functions has been capturing a lot of attention: Internet Tethering. This function is quite simple: it turns your iPhone into a 3G modem, so you can browse the web from your computer via your iPhone.
Of course carriers will not allow such usage for free as it uses 3G bandwidth on their network. Well, you could argue that having an iPhone-bundled data subscription plan should give you the right to use the internet tethering function as part of your plan. Well, no; it is considered as "data', but it is not the same "data". Some users quickly developed hacks to bypass restrictions applied by carriers. It is relatively simple, however it is not clean and carriers can track your "illegal" data consumption via internet tethering.
In most EU countries unlimited data is often "limited" to 1 GB data transfer

Here they all are..Reviewers have been playing with the iPhone 3G S for a week. The overwhelming theme is "evolutionary not revolutionary" and "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". Most do notice a speed increase as well which makes the experience better. We'll keep adding sources and media below.

AT&T using 802.21 for iPhone 3G-Wifi handoffs?
It looks like AT&T might be using the 802.21 protocol to relax the pressure put on their 3G network by the iPhone. The new iPhone 3.0 OS software contains the ability for iPhones to autoswitch from 3G to Wifi when an AT&T Wifi network is in range, without user intervention.
Today AT&T made a statement saying they would allow "seamless transition from their 3G network to any one of their 20,000 Wifi wireless hotspots". While the IEEE protocol wasn't stated, it is likely the way that the iPhones will switch back and forth between 3G and Wifi.
There is always the possibility that they are doing "dumb handoffs" as well which would just be like when a normal iPhone

Sirius XM Radio comes to iPhone
As we reported a few weeks ago Sirius is now on the iPhone and iPod touch. You can get the the App for free and sign up for a free 7 day trial if you aren't already a member. The music is streamed over the net, not via satellite, obviously. It also works over 3G (thanks commenters).
Update: the $3/monh doesn't get you any Sirius premium content like Howard Stern, MLB, NFL and our beloved NASCAR, which is available separatelyso this isn't something to get too excited about.

'Family Guy' App hits the App Store
With the release of iPhone OS 3.0, there are a torrent of new apps hitting the App Store (iTunes $1.99). One we're fans of is the Family Guy app. A popular American TV comedy carried on the Fox network (see video below), Family Guy sometimes has some "racy" humor. In the App Store, this App is the first example we've seen of a "rated" show. In this case, it is rated 12 years old and older. Without the 3.0 OS, you won't be able to download it at all.

First 17+ iPhone app: F-mylife
Fmylife.com is a website where users share their embarassing life events. Often these range into the obscene (as you might guess from the title of the app).
Now, it is in the App Store ($1.99 link) so you don't have to wait until you get home to tell the world that you clogged the toilet at your date's house.

Sony announced today a new entry into its VAIO series, the NW, complete with a Blu-ray drive and what they're hoping is an aggressive pricing point. It's packing a 15.5-inch WXGA display with XBRITE, 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P7350, ATI Mobility Radeon HD4570 with 512MB VRAM, a 4x BD-ROM drive, 4GB of DDR2 RAM, webcam, 802.11a/b/g/n, a 400GB HDD, and a Li-ion battery that's at best 5.5 hours in large capacity and at worst 1.5 hours with the standard-sized version. iPhone 3.0 firmware expands enterprise features
With the new iPhone 3.0 firmware, Apple has continued to develop the platform for enterprise use. The company has issued an enterprise deployment guide (PDF) for system administrators to integrate the iPhone or iPod touch. Safa's PMPs haven't always done that much to distinguish themselves from the masses of nondescript players out there, but it looks to have stepped up its game slightly with its new G3 model, which not only looks decent enough, but packs a still-not-all-that-common accelerometer to boot.
