Samsung Omnia Pro to be the Louvre B7610?
We're actually surprised we didn't make the connection earlier, but word on the street today is the the rumored Samsung Omnia Pro will actually be a renamed Louvre B7610, a set's which been popping up a lot lately. Makes a lot of sense -- the Louvre's 3.5-inch WVGA AMOLED screen, 800MHz processor, and 5.1 megapixel camera match up nicely with the Omnia line. It's running Windows Mobile 6.1 right now, but we wouldn't be too surprised if the rumored August release

CrunchPad unboxed, handled on video
We heard earlier this month that the first official CrunchPad units would arrive soon, and it seems like Mike Arrington and company are making progress -- here's what looks to be semi-final hardware and packaging on video for the first time. Interestingly, the device is still plastic and somewhat chubby, not the 18mm-thick aluminum we'd heard earlier -- and whoever's in charge here won't boot it, so we've yet to see the custom Linux / WebKit OS in action. Intel besteht auf 10,2"-Netbook-Grenze
Hersteller von Netbooks, die Geräte basierend auf Intels Atom-Prozessor konzipieren, müssen sich an bestimmte Bedingungen halten, dazu zählt etwa ein Display-Limit von 10,2 Zoll. Einige Hersteller haben zwar in der jüngeren Vergangenheit größere Modelle vorgestellt, Intel will das aber unterbinden.

Looks like the E71 is about to be upstaged as Nokia's premier business-class smartphone -- someone in Espoo's just hit the corporate YouTube account with this promo video for an E72. Upgrades include a five megapixel camera, voice control, and what looks to be an optical mouse instead of a D-pad -- a welcome upgrade for click-happy S60. Safari 4 not working on some Web pages? Try changing the user agent.
When a new Web browser version comes out, many times online services and applications will not work with that specific version, even though not much in the underlying code in the browser has changed. This could be from just minor bugs with how JavaScript or other Web technologies are handled; or more commonly it can be from the server not being updated to properly recognize the new browser.

New Mac Trojan, OSX/Jahlav-C has been discovered
2009 has seen quite an onslaught of malicious software targeting the Mac OS. The siege continues with a new Trojan, OSX/Jahlav-C. This software is most closely associated with the Internet Web site, PornTube, masquerading as an ActiveX object that users must install to watch the video content on the site.

Preparing for 10.6 Snow Leopard: Graphics and processor requirements.
The upcoming version of OS X promises to be a streamlined and refined system, cutting out much of the old, bloated code that has persisted since the initial 10.0 public beta version which was released in the summer of 2000.
Along with stripping out all of this legacy code, Apple has incorporated a variety of new technologies in Snow Leopard that will make the most out of modern computing hardware, and has dubbed these technologies "OpenCL" and"Grand Central Dispatch". In addition, they've made the switch to fully supporting 64-bit computing in the new OS, but while Snow Leopard will install on all intel-based Macs, not all Macs have the hardware requirements to support these key enhancements.

Slow USB thumb drives after formatting on a PC.
Thumb drives are usually relatively fast when connected to a your Mac, and will mount in a few seconds and be accessible from the Desktop or Finder side-bar. This should happen as long as the format is one that's supported by OS X; however, sometimes after formatting a drive using Windows or another OS, they can start running slowly.

Pioneer explodes your dashboard with new AVIC U, X and Z-series in-dash navigation systems
Pioneer isn't going for subtle here: the company just unleashed a flurry of in-dash navigators, with a considerable amount of accoutrements on display. The units range through the flagship AVIC-Z110BT (pictured), "midrange" AVIC-X710BT and X910BT, and the AVIC-U310BT for rich people on a budget. Seriously, with a starting price of $599, none of this is suited for the cheap-and-simple set, but at least Pioneer backs up those pricetags with serious functionality. In the high end, the Z110BT includes an tilt-out XGA 7-inch touchscreen, MSN Direct tuner (for traffic and other live info), 4GB of internal storage, CD and DVD playback, and Bluetooth. OS 3.0: 113 neue Funktionen für iPhone & Touch
Das für Mittwoch angekündigte iPhone OS 3.0 bringt eine Vielzahl neuer Funktionen und Verbesserungen für das iPhone und den iPod touch. Im Hackint0sh-Forum findet sich eine Liste mit neuen 113 Features, die abhängig von Modell und Generation mit dem Softwareupdate kommen.
Die wichtigsten neuen Funktionen stellt Apple hier für das iPhone und hier für den iPod touch ausführlich vor, nicht zu verachten ist allerdings auch die Vielzahl der Verbesserungen im Detail wie die im Bild oben gezeigten neuen Einstellungsoptionen für SMS-Nachrichten oder Home-Taste.

Mac OS X Snow Leopard: Time for a New Mac? Not Necessarily
Just a few days ago we reported a rather lengthy list of macs that would be deemed obsolete by Apple as of June 16, 2009. If you feel it is still too early to retire your Mac (e.g. an upgraded PowerMac 9600/200MP G4 350 MHz, 80 GB, 448 MB RAM, ATI Radeon 7200) and you would love to indulge in Leopard (10.5).Fret not. Help is just a click away. Do note it is not for the faint hearted. One wonders if Snow Leopard would be on the list of such faithful Mac users. Would we see some magic happening? It would be very welcome, especially for G5 owners, to know that they can install Snow Leopard. For now, I believe it is not very possible, well, impossible might be a better term. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Pre gets NES emulation in Linux; our thumbs are in for a world of hurt
Sure, once you get Doom onto a device there isn't much stopping you in the homebrew department, but we thought the implementation of an NES emulator on webOS outside of the Classic environment was worth noting -- even if it happens to be astoundingly easy to pull off. All it requires is a quick trip to root on the device a compile of the FCEUltra NES emulator for Linux and bam, it's good to go. Hit up the read link for instructions (we're sure we're simplifying things just a tad) -- and no, the incredible appropriateness of using a Contra ROM to kick things off hasn't escaped us.

ASUS 'Seamless Experience' is the best conception of the future we've seen in the past five minutes

Schweizer iPhone 3GS ohne Vertrag teurer als der Vorgänger
Die Schweizer mögen gemeinhin als langsam gelten, in Sachen iPhone indes gehören sie zu den Vorreitern: Während Apples neues Mobiltelefon andernorts allein mit teurem Laufzeitvertrag angeboten wird, können Eidgenossen das Gerät ab sofort auch ohne Vertragsbindung kaufen. Microsoft - European Commission: Vicious Strike Back from Redmond
In order to follow rules defined by the European Commission, Microsoft has to give customers the choice of using the internet browser of their choice with Windows 7. If you could have thought that the easiest and simplest solution would have had to pre-install them all, then you do not know Microsoft's strategyWindows 7 version to be sold in Europe might not have a single internet browser pre-installed! In other words customers will not even be able to download their favorite browser from the web they will have to get it from archive physically saved on a storage unit. Microsoft could also offer Internet Explorer (beside Corporate, this browser is not so popular anymore) on a CD to be found in the retail version of Windows 7.

iPhone 3G S pre-orders sold out
It looks like those AT&T upgrade costs haven't killed demand for the new iPhone 3G S. BGR is reporting that AT&T is all out of pre-orders.
BGR states that they only have access to AT&T's systems and it is uncertain how many iPhones had been allocated to the sole iPhone carrier. AT&T and Apple will both have more stock on launch day.

VAIO P gets whole new lease on life with Atom Z550 processor, SSD and WiMAX
A whole new day is dawning for the never-ever-a-netbook Sony VAIO P -- those new processor and drive upgrades apparently have the little PC churning through benchmarks at twice the pace of the original. Most of the benchmark help comes from the SSD drive, but the Atom Z550 doesn't hurt. Meanwhile, Japan is getting a WiMAX version to churn through stereotypically Japanese websites in record time. Samsung's upcoming YP-R1 uncovered, just barely worth the effort
There's nothing particularly offensive about this DAP, but we can't imagine it changing anyone's life -- and really, is that too much to ask out of a portable audio player? After catching wind of this upcoming YP-R1 from Samsung, the fine folks at DAP Review did a bit of sleuthing to pair up the specs with a photo, and it's all pretty traditional: 8GB of flash storage, a 2.7-inch 400 x 240 touchscreen display, a good amount of video and audio codecs, TV-out, Bluetooth, FM, e-book reader and even some games. Supposedly it'll be out in the UK on July 30th for £109.99 (about $181 US). Like we said, pretty standard stuff, but who knows, maybe Samsung will surprise us all with a new UI theme or something.Filed under:
