Es begab sich vor gar nicht allzulanger Zeit, dass ich vom Teufel geritten wurde. Er steuerte mich geradewegs auf einen Einkaufsbummel mit meinem zwölfjährigen Cousin zu. iPhone 3G S Already in Customers Hands in Some EU Countries
It seems that shipping of the iPhone 3G S went faster than expected for some customers. Xavier, one of our readers, informed us that he received his unit this morning after ordering it yesterday. He will send us photos later today. The iPhone 3G S should be available tomorrow morning in carrier's shops and from midnight at some dedicated places.
We have now received dozen of similar reports of iPhone 3G S being already delivered to customers one day ahead of the official launch. Not sure that Apple will be pleased.

RIM's BlackBerry shipments flatten at 7.8m
Research in Motion today reported results for its spring quarter that show the company's growth in smartphones cooling down. The company shipped 7.8 million BlackBerries between March and May, or exactly as many as it moved in winter. About 3.8 million of these, or just under half, were new BlackBerry subscribers instead of replacements.

NVIDIA says Windows CE is better for smartbooks than Android
There may be some folks out there talking up Android as the OS of choice of smartbooks, but it looks like you can't count NVIDIA among them. Speaking with ComputerWorld, NVIDIA's Mike Rayfield (general manager of the company's mobile business unit) says that NVIDIA actually prefers Windows CE over Android for ARM-based smartbooks due to its maturity and lack of a "rough user interface." AT&T using 802.21 for handoff of iPhones to Wi-Fi?
AT&T may be adapting a new protocol to relieve pressure on its 3G network, reports say. The 802.21 protocol may be responsible for the new prompt-free process of automatically transitioning an iPhone from 3G to one of AT&T's Wi-Fi hotspots. MIT scientists reverse engineer the ear for ultra-broadband, low power RF chip
Researchers at MIT have developed an ultra-broadband radio chip that's faster than any existing RF spectrum analyzer, while consuming 100 times less power. The RF Cochlea mimics the neural signal processing of the human cochlea, which uses fluid mechanics, piezoelectrics and neural signal processing to convert sound waves into electrical signals which travel to the brain. Samsung debuts first 32GB DDR3 memory module
Samsung has been making promises about a 32GB DDR3 memory module since it rolled out its first 50nm 4Gb DDR3 memory chip way back in January, but it looks like it's now finally delivered. While it won't be headed for regular desktops or laptops just yet, the company does have a new 1.35 volt 32GB module for servers which, in addition to packing that record-breaking capacity, also boasts a 20% better throughput compared to previous 1.5 volt modules and, of course, a lower power consumption to boot. Microsoft confirms new Xbox 360 Arcade systems are bumped to 512MB
There wasn't much doubt that Xbox 360 Arcade systems equipped with 512MB of on-board memory were now shipping, but Microsoft has now come out and confirmed as much to Eurogamer to put any last bit of doubt to rest. iPhone 3G S: Already 45,000 Units Pre-ordered from Orange!?
Orange announced to have already received reservations for 45,000 iPhone 3G S units only for the French market. It is not entirely clear if this number defines pre-orders or simply customers willing to be informed when the handheld will be available. As Orange is also an official carrier for the iPhone in other countries, those figures should be higher for the global market of this carrier. If you consider that in France, as in some other countries, the iPhone is offered by three different carriers, based on this figure one could then expect to have around 100,000 units pre-ordered or sold on its launch day in France. If similar values are expected in Germany, UK, Spain and Italy, it would then imply around half a million iPhone 3G S models that would be purchased within the first 24 hours following its launch in EU. We will have to wait till tomorrow evening to know if those figures were true, or just marketing expectations or claims made by a carrier to boost its sale or exposure

Let's be straight here: we're a little perplexed by the new MacBook Pro line. On one hand, Apple didn't really make enough changes to warrant a whole new review of the unibody lineup, and minor speed bumps aside, briefly using one of the new machines feels pretty much like using most any recent Mac: it's OS X on a really nice, albeit extremely glossy screen. Tethering und MMS: simyo wirbt einmal mehr mit dem iPhone
Die Nutzung des iPhones als Modem am Computer stand für viele Nutzer ganz oben auf der Wunschliste. Mit dem iPhone OS 3.0 hat Apple diesen Wunsch erfüllt, einer Internetverbindung lässt sich nunmehr ganz offiziell und ohne Jailbreak mit dem Gerät aufbauen. Ebay hat jetzt erstmals Zahlen zum Handelsvolumen der auf dem deutschen Marktplatz registrierten Powerseller vorgelegt. Demnach erwirtschafteten die 159.000 gewerblichen Ebay-Händler in Deutschland von April 2008 bis März 2009 einen Umsatz von rund 3,1 Milliarden Euro. Zum Vergleich: Nach Zahlen des Bundesverbandes des Deutschen Versandhandels e.V gaben die Deutschen 2008 insgesamt rund 19,3 Milliarden Euro für Waren und Dienstleistungen im Internet aus.

'Family Guy' App hits the App Store
With the release of iPhone OS 3.0, there are a torrent of new apps hitting the App Store (iTunes $1.99). One we're fans of is the Family Guy app. A popular American TV comedy carried on the Fox network (see video below), Family Guy sometimes has some "racy" humor. In the App Store, this App is the first example we've seen of a "rated" show. In this case, it is rated 12 years old and older. Without the 3.0 OS, you won't be able to download it at all.

Prognose zu den Verkaufszahlen des neuen iPhones
Morgen beginnt die Auslieferung des neuen iPhone 3G S in acht Ländern. Einer aktuellen Analyse von Piper Jaffray zufolge wird Apple am ersten Wochenende eine halbe Million Geräte absetzen. In diese Zahl fließen auch die erwarteten Verkäufe des günstigeren iPhone 3G ein. Als Apple im Jahr 2007 den Verkauf des ersten iPhones freigab, gingen 270.000 Geräte über die Ladentische, allerdings fand die Markteinführung auch nur in den USA statt.

Ein erster Blick auf das neue iPhone 3G S
Mit dem iPhone 3G S bringt Apple kein komplett neues iPhone, sondern einen grundlegend überarbeiteten und hard- wie auch softwaretechnisch optimierten Nachfolger des iPhone 3G auf den Markt. Wir konnten uns bereits einen ersten Eindruck des Geräts verschaffen und werden die neuen Funktionen in den nächsten Tagen noch ausführlich abhandeln.
Grundsätzlich lässt sich bereits sagen, dass man bei der Benutzung des iPhone 3G S in den meisten Bereichen auf Anhieb einen deutlichen Geschwindigkeitszuwachs vernehmen kann. Rein äußerlich hat sich am Gerät bis auf das spezialbeschichtete Display nichts geändert. Der Touchscreen nimmt weniger Fett oder Schmutz an und lässt sich vor allem sehr leicht wieder an T-Shirt oder Hose abwischen. Zudem fasst sich das Display unseres Gerätes im Vergleich zu den Vorgängermodellen deutlich glatter an - möglich allerdings, dass dies auch einfach daran liegt, dass das Display nagelneu ist.

iPhone OS 3: Anwender klagen über Hardware-Probleme nach Update
Einige Anwender des Updates auf iPhone OS 3.0 klagen über Probleme.
So treffen noch während der Update-Prozedur Fehler -24, -12 und ähnliche auf, und das iPhone lässt das Update nicht durchführen.
Bei einigen, z.B. italienischen und von Werk aus freien Geräten, führte ein schließlich funktionierendes Update zudem zu weiteren Problemen. Nach dem Update konnte der Akku nicht mehr geladen werden, oder das Gerät ging überhaupt nicht mehr an.
Wie weit sich die Probleme erstrecken ist noch nicht bekannt, aber es scheint viele Update-willige zu betreffen.

We had a chance to go hands-on with Layar, the new augmented reality browser from SPRXmobile. Launched yesterday on Android Market in The Netherlands, we were curious to see how the software, that looked damn-impressive in the promo video, would function in actual use, in this case, from the living room of SPRXmobile's Maarten Lens-FitzGerald just outside of Amsterdam. Our take? it's the real-deal, especially for a v1 release. The software looks rock-solid and the initial data layers -- ATMs, social joints like cafes and clubs, and job listings -- appear fully populated and thus, useful. The ATM and cafe/club layers (or layars) are definitely useful for serendipitous discovery though we're still scratching our heads over the job search

IBM seems seriously intent to beat Intel to the tiny, 28nm processor punch, and has enlisted even more help to get there first. Cydia und Icy werden die Install-Tools der Wahl neben dem Appstore werden müssen: der dienstälteste Installer für Jailbreak-iPhones wird in den Ruhestand versetzt. 15-Zoll-OLED-Display von LG ab Dezember
Die OLED-Technologie gilt schon seit längerem als Nachfolger der LCDs, wobei entsprechende Minitore oder gar Fernseher bis jetzt nicht so wirklich das Endstadium erreichen wollen. Update für iPhone OS 3.0 SDK

Windows 7 licensing situation a "disaster" for businesses?
Doom and gloom warnings about a new Microsoft operating system from some corners sure aren't anything new, but it looks like a particular licensing issue with Windows 7 could well cause some serious headaches for businesses transitioning from Windows XP. As InfoWorld reports, as things stand now, businesses that buy PCs before April 23, 2010 with Windows 7 preinstalled will have the option to downgrade them to Windows XP, which will let them upgrade to Windows 7 whenever they're finally ready to make the transition. Apple hat ein Firmware-Update 2.0 für alle Macs mit Broadcom-Bluetooth-Chip veröffentlicht. NVidia Ready to Deal with Globalfoundries?
One of the main problem of GPU designer such as NVidia is to make their GPU produced by the best founders. As current example is the problem faced by ATI/AMD to make TSMC to reach good yield for producing the Radeon HD 4770, the first desktop computer GPU to be engraved at 40 nm. NVidia is also affected and needs to have founders able to offer engraving process as thin as possible to be able to keep performance level on the high end while controlling power consumption and heat release. Unexpectedly, the solution could come from its main past enemy, the outsourced foundry from AMD, now known as Globalfoundries. According to recent reports, NVidia is ready to singed a partnership for its futures GPU with Globalfoundries.

Verizon and AT&T Suspected of Collusion in Setting Prices for SMS
While most European carriers offer rich SMS subscription plans, the price of those small text message emitted from/received on mobile phone are very expensive (today) in USA. Well, it was not true one or two years ago when Verizon and AT&T were promoting SMS in USA. Today both carriers are suspected to have colluded in setting prices for SMS. Indeed, any European customers would be amazed by the price of a single SMS in USA: 20 cents! Both carriers argue that most SMS are included in their standard subscription plans, however recent reports shown on CNN and other TC channels demonstrated than many customers seen their mobile phone bills doubling over the last year. It seems that long time customers of both carriers, running on old format subscription plan were over charged because such text message were not included in their original contract.

Überlastung mit Ansage: Nach monatelanger Berichterstattung, Verteilung unter Entwicklern und nicht zuletzt den Präsentationen von Apple wollten natürlich viele Besitzer eines iPhone und iPod touch keine Sekunde verlieren und aktualisierten so früh wie möglich.
