Palm issues takedown for TealOS
If you're a fan of TealOS (you know, that fairly striking webOS-aping launcher for Palm devices), you're in for some bad news. ATTO has released five 6Gbps SAS host adapters varying mainly on port configurations. Nokia pulling all OEM contracts?
iSuppli, of all companies -- you know, the teardown people -- is reporting that Nokia has stopped using outside contractors altogether for manufacturing its hardware. Nokia has always had a good deal of in-house manufacturing capability, but certain products -- including its upcoming MID, allegedly -- have been contracted out to ODMs like Foxconn and its contemporaries, so this calls a whole slew of initiatives into question. News: AT&T stores offer early upgrades to iPhone 3G
AT&T stores have begun to offer fully subsidized pricing on the iPhone 3G to select early upgrade customers. First genuine Chevy Volt hits production on June 1st
You'd probably never know it from all the pictures, but the Chevy Volt hasn't actually been fully built before -- so far all we've seen are "development mules" constructed from the shell of the company's Cruze compact cars. That's all gonna change on June 1st, when General Motors says it's gonna start production on the first 100 percent genuine Volt. According to the unofficial blog GM-Volt, an average of ten cars will be made each week until a fleet of 80 have been complete. Of course, you're still not gonna get to drive one until at least 2010, so don't go looking for your favorite Gatsby cap just yet.

ASUS announces Eee PC E1004DN with optical drive, 1008HA gets a release date
In a bombshell of moderate proportions, the gang at DigiTimes have reported that ASUS will be following Mouse Computer's lead (when was the last time you heard that?), and have announced the first Eee PC equipped with an optical drive, the E1004DN. This bad boy sports an Intel Atom N280 CPU, a 120GB HDD, and will be in the ballpark of NT $18,000 - 20,000 (roughly $531 - $590). It should see the light of day sometime in mid-April. The same source reports that the Eee PC 1008HA will be getting its release in May. Out of curiosity, we asked @billyjoel for a comment and have yet to receive a response.

AT&T extends early upgrades to iPhone 3G

Samsung's Alias2 in live shots, still not looking awesome
Don't get us wrong, the concept of a truly dynamic keypad on a phone is awesome, and we're sure that the concept is going to be going places in the next few years -- we just don't think that a handset that looks like this is going to be the one to light the fire. Meizu M8 unboxing and hands-on!
Yes, folks -- things are about to get really real. We have managed, through a series of delicate negotiations, to get our hands on an honest-to-goodness Meizu M8 -- heretofore the stuff of pure legend. At first glance, the build quality of the phone is actually pretty decent -- it's mostly plastic, but everything seems to snap together firmly. The battery (which is removable, naturally) is quite large, though we haven't had a chance to test its life in any significant way. Of course, the real showpiece here is the software -- which admittedly owes its entire existence to the iPhone. We've found that it's quite snappy, and the styling and functionality of the UI is really kind of impressive (though this did spend a long time in the oven). Still, the phone's KIRF

But won't work with protected video purchased from the iTunes Store.For those that prefer to read their television and movies - c’mon, it’s as close as some of us get to literature - Apple’s been supporting subtitles and captions in its software and on its devices for a while now. MobileMe mail mysteriously missing

Laut einer Gartner-Studie wird der Markt für gehostete virtuelle Desktops (HVD) von derzeit 1,3 Milliarden Dollar auf 65,7 Milliarden Dollar im Jahr 2013 wachsen. SAP-Chefs verdienen 2008 knapp 16 Prozent weniger

Nvidia reicht Gegenklage gegen Intel ein
Vertragsstreitigkeiten scheinen derzeit in der Chipbranche in Mode zu sein. Orange to subsidize MacBooks with Mobile Broadband, AT&T to follow?
According to MobileToday, Apple is in the final stages of negotiations to sell their MacBooks subsidized through Orange (presumably in the UK) with a mobile broadband card. More interestingly, they expect Apple to release a notebook (or netbook) with built in Mobile Broadbnd at some point this summer.
Currently, O2 is the exclusive carrier of Apple iPhone products in the UK, however Orange in France did have a subsidized MacBook fixed line deal previously. The Boy Genius hinted that AT&T might offer an Apple Netbook subsidized by AT&T at some point this summer as well.

i.TV 1.4 adds U-verse support, speed enhancements
i.TV has launched version 1.4 of its TV and movie guide for the iPhone and iPod touch. Microsoft hat eine neue Werbekampagne gestartet, in der auf die im Vergleich zum Mac angeblich günstigere Hardware eines Windows-PC hingewiesen wird. In einem Spot wird "Lauren" losgeschickt, um einen Laptop nach ihren Wünschen für maximal 1.000 US-Dollar zu kaufen. Sie geht dabei auch in einen Apple Store, findet dort aber lediglich das MacBook mit einem 13-Zoll-Bildschirm zu diesem Preis, was ihr zu klein ist. SAL pocket video camera won't mind if you mistake it for a Flip
As Pure Digital's Flip cameras have amply demonstrated, there's plenty of folks looking for nothing more than a dead simple digital video camera, and it looks like Japan's Amadana is now looking to peel off a bit of that user base with its new SAL pocket camera. Mac Pro: Radeon-HD-4870-Nachfolger steht bevor

Kohjinsha offers up colorful line of ML6 netbooks
You could guess the specifications with your eyes closed -- a 1.6GHz Intel Atom, 1,024 x 600 resolution panel, 1GB of RAM, 160GB hard drive, WiFi, Windows XP and a battery good for around 4.7 hours -- but at least Kohjinsha busted out the paint gun on its ML6 netbook. Time Capsule drops Internet connections
Many people are reporting that their Time Capsules are dropping Internet connections during the backup process. The Airport Utility does not see the Time Capsule during the dropped out period, however, the backup continues and completes--the Internet connection is the only function not working. Time Capsules may also be dropping Internet connections more frequently than during backup sessions as multiple users report anywhere from 5 minute to 30 minute increments between drops.

Detected display settings are incorrect after hot-swapping monitors

30-inch Cinema Display problems: black screens, brightness stuck
When the 30-inch Cinema Displays were first released, some users reported pixel distortion, i.e. the screen seemed to sparkle or have patches of "dancing" pixels. In addition, some displays had dark bands or half the screen was dimmer than the rest. This turned out to be usually caused by the backlights warming up.
Currently, there are a couple of issues with these displays that have developed over time. One of these is the screen getting stuck at full brightness, with none of the controls apparently being able to change the brightness levels.

Nvidia klagt gegen Chipsatz-Verbot für Intel-Nehalem-CPUs
Nvidia hat bei einem Gericht im US-Bundesstaat Delaware eine Klage gegen Intel eingereicht. Der Grafikhersteller reagiert damit auf die von Intel im Februar beantragte einstweilige Verfügung, die Nvidia davon abhalten soll, Chipsätze für Intels Nehalem-Prozessoren auf den Markt zu bringen. Retro: Frogger für iPod touch und iPhone
Zunächst nur in den USA verfügbar, hat sich der Automatenklassiker aus den 80er-Jahren Frogger von uns bislang unbemerkt vor ein paar Wochen in den deutschen App Store geschlichen.
Bei Frogger geht es darum, einen Frosch erst über eine viel befahrene Straße und anschließend noch von Baumstamm zu Baumstamm hüpfend über einen Fluss zu steuern. Dies lässt sich wahlweise durch Gleitbewegungen mit dem Finger, Antippen oder durch Neigen des iPods bzw. iPhones tun, nach unserem Ermessen eignet sich die voreingestellte Steuerung durch Gleiten am besten (die im App Store geäußerte Kritik an der Steuerung ist für uns nicht nachvollziehbar).
Die Umsetzung des Spiel orientiert sich 1:1 am Original und bietet Arcade-Fans die Möglichkeit einer Zeitreise in die verrauchten Spielhallen und Kneipen der 80er. Die

30-inch Cinema Display problems: black screens, brightness stuck
When the 30-inch Cinema Displays were first released, some users reported pixel distortion, i.e. the screen seemed to sparkle or have patches of "dancing" pixels. In addition, some displays had dark bands or half the screen was dimmer than the rest. This turned out to be usually caused by the backlights warming up.
Currently, there are a couple of issues with these displays that have developed over time. One of these is the screen getting stuck at full brightness, with none of the controls apparently being able to change the brightness levels.

SlingPlayer Mobile for BlackBerry exits beta, iPhone version submitted to App Store
Get ready, BlackBerry users, because your days are officially about to become less productive (or, at the very least, your mass transit commutes).
