The Kira 100 was a decent Eee PC knockoff, but at just north of $475, there was literally no purpose in picking it over the genuine product. The Jointech JL7100, however, really makes ASUS' darling look mighty unnecessary. Okay, so maybe the fact that this thing relies on WinCE 5.0 rather than, you know, a bona fide laptop operating system is a bit disappointing, but there are sacrifices to be expected here. PS3 homebrew capabilities inevitably leads to Pong

Internet-Sicherheitslücke: Noch kein Patch für Mac OS X
Bei der Vielzahl an Daten und persönlichen Informationen, die jeder IT-Nutzer tagtäglich im Internet überträgt, ist Sicherheit ein großes Thema. Peinlich, dass Apple als letzter aller namhaften Hersteller ein massives aktuelles Sicherheitsproblem noch immer nicht gelöst hat. Bereits im März entdeckte Dan Kaminsky eine erhebliche Lücke im Domain-Name-Verfahren (DNS), bei dem Internet- in IP-Adressen umgewandelt werden. Unter Mac OS X ist es wegen des noch immer fehlenden Patch möglich, Zugriffe im Internet auf andere Rechner umzuleiten.

Infineon CEO wants to sell flagging Qimonda unit... badly
Filed under: StorageLittle known tidbit for those not keenly watching the happenings at Infineon: the firm was forced to write down the value of its Qimonda stake by €1 billion ($1.57 billion) in April. Not surprisingly, Infineon's head honcho is about ready to rid the company of the flagging unit, making quite a few direct statements in a Germany daily saying as much. BlackBerry bäumt sich auf: Auch iTunes-Nutzer sollen sich wohl fühlen
Innovation, Benutzerfreundlichkeit, Design - und das ganze bitteschön gepaart mit Exklusivität oder besser gleich einer Monopolstellung: Apples Taktik, den Kunden an sich zu binden, ist keine Neuigkeit, doch so langsam wird die Schlinge um den Hals der Konkurrenz eng. Zumindest der Blackberry-Hersteller Research in Motion bäumt sich noch einmal auf und versucht mit einem Konvertierungsprogramm auch iTunes-Nutzer bei Blackberry zu halten.

IOCELL contents phone logs conversations, sends 'em around the web

Not quite sure why, but we get this whole Get Smart vibe from this thing. IOCELL's contents phone would probably be more suited for a highly covert spy agency rather than your grandmother's home, but we suppose even granny could appreciate the built-in hard drive that logs conversations, plays 'em back and makes remembering things that much easier. Furthermore, the firm asserts that this thing can send completed calls out on the internet should you want to pass along the audio to someone else, and there also appears to be a USB port for possibly offloading those onto flash drives. Neil Youngs inkonsequente iTunes-Kritik
Alt-Rocker Neil Young hat sich laut MacNN bitter über iPods und den Trend zu Musik im MP3-Format beschwert. Allen voran macht er Apple für diese Entwicklung und einen damit einhergehenden Qualitätsverlust bei Musikaufnahmen verantwortlich: "Quality has taken a complete backseat - if it even gets in the car at all".
Mit gutem Beispiel voran geht Young aber keinesfalls, denn im iTunes Store sind nahezu alle seine Alben in altbackener 128 kBit-Qualität anstelle von iTunes Plus erhältlich - wäre es nach solch großen Worten nicht konsequent, auf diesen Vertriebsweg (und das damit verbundene Geld) komplett zu verzichten?

Samsung Costume hard drive concept appeals to the ladies

Not that Samsung is actually looking to pump this out into beauty salons worldwide, but there stands at least a mild chance that sophisticated females shopping for new compacts would also spring for some storage. Bei iTunes gekaufte Songs auf Linux hören
Falls Bedarf besteht: Mit El Tunes lassen sich im iTunes Store gekaufte, kopiergeschützte Songs auch unter Linux abspielen: "El Tunes is a GStreamer plugin that allows Linux users to play all music they have purchased from the iTunes Music Store!". Nikon D700 full-frame DSLR gets unboxed on video

It's easy enough to drool over the press shots of Nikon's luscious D700. Seeing someone unbox this full-frame beast on video is another experience entirely (bordering on spiritual, really). Nicht das jemand den Fehler macht und anfängt, vor einem Apple Store zu campieren: Das iPhone 3G ist bereits gestartet. Verdi erwägt Arbeitskampf gegen Jobabbau bei T-Systems
