Sony's Alpha A350 DSLR gets reviewed

For some, tossing around phrases like "live preview" and "flip-out swivel screen" would be enough to sell Sony's Alpha A350, but we know you're more discerning than that, right? Right. Truth be told, Sony's feature-packed Alpha only turned out okay -- not great -- during a review session with the folks over at CNET. Still, the unit did offer a sturdy feel, a fantastically useful LCD monitor and satisfactory color / dynamic range. Gartner: Windows steht vor dem Kollaps

Wissenschaftler erkennen Bewegungen an Hirnsignalen
Wissenschaftler aus Freiburg und Tübingen haben eine neue Möglichkeit gefunden, Nervensignale zur Steuerung von Bewegungen aus dem Gehirn von außen sehr viel genauer als bisher abzunehmen. Mit Hilfe von Elektroden konnten sie aus der Aktivität im Bewegungszentrum, dem Motorcortex, ablesen, in welche Richtung ein Mensch seine Hand bewegt. NVidia is expected to burn chips at this level fast enough. Nothing will change in the architecture of their products. They should offer the G94b and G96b chips. A ray of hope for installing a new grapjics card in the iMac 24
In the iMac 24 ", the video card is not soldered to the motherboard, but it connected via a MXM connector.

Bundestag stärkt den Schutz geistigen Eigentums

Experte fordert Kontrolle von Wahlcomputern
Der Sicherheitsexperte David Wagner hat gestern anlässlich der Konferenz RSA 2008 verpflichtende Nachkontrollen für alle Ergebnisse von E-Voting-Systemen gefordert. Er begründete seinen Vorstoß damit, dass die Systeme ernsthafte Schwachstellen aufwiesen, durch die Viren auf einzelne Computer und damit in das gesamte System gelangen könnten. Like thousands of developers worldwide, Nike is retooling its Nike + software for use with the iPhone and the iPod touch, embracing the wireless connectivity of both devices.
While Nike has recently extended its system with the introduction of the Nike + Sportsband, which doesn't require an iPod, this doesn't mean its relationship with Apple has changed.
The new iPhone/iPod touch solution will embrace these devices WiFi and (eventual) 3G support to allow users to update training logs "on the fly", meaning training data can be uploaded wirelessly.

What is not Safe in MagSage?
We have already mention in the past numerous cases of defective MagSafe PSU, mostly due to auto twisting of the wire, leading to a short-circuit, and in some extreme cases burning and fire ignition. Couple of months ago, Apple published a TechNote explaining how to roll the cable around the unit to prevent any auto-twisting.
However, I personally own 2 MagSafe units, and for one of them the cable is already looking like it is being twisting inside the plastic shield. Last week-end I went to a friend whose MacBook PSU is just looking like it is going to fail apart, with the cable near the lead completely malformed.
Hereafter is an interesting story from Crispy, a hardmac forum member, reporting his experience with MagSafe units, and describing how defective manufacturing could be responsible of failure in some cases.

Songs besser über die Menüleiste bewerten
In den Kommentaren zu unserem Hinweis auf das Mac-Tool Funes fordert Injecter: "Etwas ähnliches wie "Star", dass einem 1. die momentane Bewertung anzeigt und 2. auch noch halbe Sterne vergeben kann und 3. Universal ist, DAS wäre perfekt"
Hier ist Rate Me!: Die Mac-Freeware von Michael Markert macht genau das, ja sogar noch ein wenig mehr: Man hat auch die wichtigsten iTunes-Funktionen direkt in der Menüleiste (Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track, Mute, Loop).
Kennt jemand gute Windows-Pendants? Ebenfalls in den Kommentaren zu Funes wird CD Art Display als Alternative emfpohlen, von uns bisher aber nicht getestet.

Ebay zwingt australische User zur Paypal-Nutzung
Die australische Ebay-Niederlassung hat eine drastische Änderung bei den Zahlungsmöglichkeiten für Anwender angekündigt. Ab dem 21. Mai muss bei Ebay-Auktionen Paypal als Zahlungsmethode angeboten werden. Knapp einen Monat später folgt die Verschärfung dieser Maßnahme - nach dem 17. Juni muss die Abwicklung der Zahlung bei nahezu allen Artikeln entweder in bar oder per Paypal erfolgen.

Brasilien fordert Informationen über Orkut-Nutzer
Ein Ausschuss des brasilianischen Senates hat Google angewiesen, Informationen über 3621 verdächtige Pädophile auszuhändigen. Den Verdächtigen wird vorgeworfen, illegales Material über Googles Social Network Orkut veröffentlicht zu haben. Mit der Anordnung will der Senat notwendige Informationen zur Identifikation der Personen erhalten. Bisher weigert sich Google, Details aus den Nutzerprofilen an die brasilianischen Behörden auszuhändigen.

Fotos nisten sich perspektivgerecht in Google Earth ein
Forscher der Universität of Southern California entwickeln ein System mit dem Namen Viewfinder, mit dem Fotos in Google Earth eingefügt werden können. OmniWeb 5.7 erschienen
Der alternative Webbrowser OmniWeb ist nun in der finalen Version 5.7 erschienen. Intern kommt die WebKit-Engine zur Darstellung der Webseiten zum Einsatz, allerdings noch das WebKit von Safari 3.0 - der Webbrowser kann also noch nicht die in der jüngsten Safari-Version 3.1 unterstützten HTML-5-Eigenschaften darstellen.
