Java SE 6 für Leopard veröffentlicht
Apple hat über die Software-Aktualisierung ein Update für Java veröffentlicht. Java 6 Version 1.6.0_05 ersetzt nicht die Java-5-Standardinstallation und ist ausschließlich für Leopard gedacht. Die Bundesnetzagentur hat mehrere für Spam-Anrufe genutzte 0137-Rufnummern abgeschaltet und die Rechnungslegung sowie Inkassierung für Verbindungen zu diesen Rufnummern untersagt. Samsung intros 'smallest ever' color laser printers

We don't normally get too excited about printers, but when a company claims to have introduced the "smallest ever" of anything, our ears prick up. Apparently, the Korean electronics-maker has distilled color laser printers into their purest, tiniest form with the CLP-315K and CLX-3175FNK, clocking in at 20- and 40-percent smaller than previous iterations, respectively. The printers still sport fancy-pants features, like printing at up to 2,400 x 600 dpi, 32MB of onboard memory, and -- at least on the CLX-3175FNK -- the ability to print from a USB key. No word on price or availability, or if these will see the light of day in the States.

Apple laptop sales explode, drive Quanta higher
Apple’s laptop sales are booming, up 61 per cent in the second quarter, and the good news is impacting the company’s notebook OEM, Quanta, which announced an 18 per cent increase in profit this morning, on strength of Mac sales.

Apple-hosted .Mac websites blocked in China
China may be blocking .Mac sites from being accessed by internet users in the country, though iDisks, iWeb site updates and other functions are working fine.
Access to .Mac sites has reported to be unavailable to internet users in Beijing, Shenzen, Hunan, Hangzhou and Zhuhai, and most reports agree that its user-made websites that are suffering from the blockage.
MacFixIt cites multiple reports to this effect, while Apple’s .Mac discussion pages also carry complaints to this effect. “Any page beginning with Web.mac.com is blocked,” the report explains. Email and other features of Apple’s subscription-based service is working fine, the report claims.

STMicroelectronics meldet 84 Millionen Dollar Nettoverlust
STMicroelectronics (STM) hat im ersten Quartal 2008 (bis 30. März) einen Nettoverlust in Höhe von 84 Millionen Dollar oder 0,09 Dollar je Aktie verbucht. OQO runs full Leopard - what doesn't anymore?
News out of the Hackintosh forums continues to flow in on throwing Leopard on PCs. Today's news is that some enterprising hackers got OSX Leopard working on an OQO - one of the smallest full PCs out there. Nevermind that it takes two minutes to start up and not all of the wireless networking components work. It is still a very compelling setup.
The last few weeks were about Psystar selling Hackintosh PC's. Apple's lawyers usually swoop in within seconds to stop EULA 'violations' like this. On Psystar, they are eerily quiet. Psystar is shipping clones and customers are receiving them.

Apple iPhone for Latin America - June?
Apple’s purported plans for Asia and Europe have been widely reported, now new evidence suggests the company has a plan to launch the device across Latin America - offering its device through multiple carriers.
It’s just the latest in a growing body of evidence that proves Apple Chief Financial Officer Peter Oppenheimer really was not joking when he said the company is “not wedded to any particular way to go to market.”
Speaking in March this year, Oppenheimer also added: “Our objective is to drive scale and take market share. We’re going to enter more European countries this year, and Asia, and we remain very confident about our goal of reaching 10 million iPhones shipped in 2008.”

Mac OS X 10.5.3 steht unmittelbar bevor
In konstanten Abständen erscheinen inzwischen die neuen Builds für Mac OS X 10.5.3. Der jüngste, Build Nr. 9D25 erschien in der vergangenen Nacht mit einem Umfang von 530 MB und hat 23 Fehler weniger als sein Vorgänger. Insgesamt waren die Entwickler sehr erfolgreich und bereinigten Leopard 10.5.2 von etwa 200 Problemen und Fehlern. Alles deutet nun darauf hin, dass die große Aktualisierung auf Leopard 10.5.3 unmittelbar bevorsteht.

New iMac: Montevina or not Montevina?
Following the announcement of the new iMacs, and their rather surprising specification, the websites are speculating on what is really inside of those new iMacs. Whilesome websites seems to have mixed up plateform code name with CPU generation, the hardware sitting in the new iMac is for sure exotic.
According to several websites, CPUs are a "special" model of the current 45-nm Penryn processor, but not officially available from Intel catalog. Those special CPUs feature clock speed ranging from 2.4 GHz over 2.66 and 2.8 GHz all the way to the 3.06 GHz CPU with 6 MB L2 cache and a 1066 MHz FSB.
So, the second point is the chipset, as the current Santa Rosa is reported to provide FSB topping at 800 MHz, and here Apple claims to have 1066 MHz FSB processors powering the new iMac. So, either it is indeed 1066 MHz FSB capable CPU on a 800MHz Santa Rosa FSB, or the new iMacs feature a overclocked version of the Santa Rosa to bring support for 1066 MHz FSB.

E-Plus setzt Wachstumskurs 2008 fort
E-Plus hat seinen Wachstumskurs im ersten Quartal 2008 fortsetzen können. Die Umsätze aus Mobilfunkdienstleistungen stiegen im Vorjahresvergleich im ersten Quartal um 6,8 Prozent von 660 auf 705 Millionen Euro. Der Marktanteil am Serviceumsatz wuchs von 13,5 Prozent im Vorjahr auf etwa 14,7 Prozent. Das EBITDA legte im abgelaufenen Quartal um 12,3 Prozent im Vergleich zum Vorjahr auf 284 Millionen Euro zu. Gleichzeitig sanken die Kosten um 20 Prozent unter den Vorjahreswert.

E-Plus kann Ergebnis um über 12 Prozent steigern
Der Mobilfunkbetreiber E-Plus konnte in seinem ersten Quartal den Umsatz um 8,2 Prozent auf 755 Millionen Euro steigern. Beim Ergebnis vor Zinsen, Steuern und Abschreibungen (EBITDA) legte das Unternehmen um 12,3 Prozent auf 284 Millionen Euro zu. OQO hacked to run Leopard, now world's smallest Mac

While greeted with heaps of initial skepticism, forum jockeys over at OQO Talk now seem convinced that a junior member by the name of TRF has successfully hacked the OQO to run OS X Leopard. Adding a video filmed by Mr. Blurry Cam didn't hurt the cause. TRF's OQO is setup in a dual-boot Vista / OS X mode which boots Leopard in about 2 minutes and 30 seconds. WiFi, sound, power management and Bluetooth it's all there with applications popping with serious snap. The only thing missing at the moment is WWAN access which TRF is now testing. New iMacs running an overclocked Penryn chip, not Montevina

The X9100 is meant to usher in the "Montevina" Centrino 2 era, and boasts significant less power consumption than its forebears, in addtion to those spiffy new clock speeds. Well, it turns out the new iMacs aren't Montevina, but instead a special-made 45nm Penryn 3.06GHz chip with a 1066MHz frontside bus.
