AMP offers converted all-electric Saturn Sky in limited run

After a year of development, Advanced Mechanical Products (or AMP) is taking orders for a limited run of 300 converted Saturn Sky Roadsters, which will be 100 percent electric. The cars can travel roughly 150 miles on a single charge, go 0 to 60 in under six seconds, and can reach a top speed of 90 MPH. The cost of the conversion and vehicle comes to around $50,000, making this one of the more affordable high-performance options around. The cars are expected to ship to buyers in 2009, so you'd better get on that list quick.

Japanese super-thief uses GPS to steal rental cars

A criminal mastermind named Mitsuhisa Kobayashi has been arrested for a series of GPS-related car thefts in Japan. According to reports, Kobayashi was responsible for stealing eight cars in the Hyogo Prefecture, five of which he sold on the internet. The man -- a former auto factory worker -- used two ex-wives to rent the cars, and would then make copies of the keys and install GPS units or cellphones with GPS capabilities inside the vehicles. Kobayashi would use the devices to track the cars' locations, then steal them once they had been moved from the rental firm. Das dänische Sicherheitsunternehmen Secunia warnt vor drei Zero-Day-Lücken in Apples Kalenderanwendung iCal. IT-Dienstleiter CSC meldet Rekordumsatz

Sparkle bringt GeForce 9600 GSO mit 768 MB
Die GeForce 9600 GSO (ComputerBase-Test) ist eine interessante Grafikkarte für den kleineren Geldbeutel. AAPL falls on iPhone delay rumour rumours
Apple shares took a dive yesterday on strength of “rumours of a rumour” claiming the 3G iPhone release has been delayed.
SeekingAlpha reports the rumour of such rumours. True or false, we’d like to observe these stock-damaging remarks may actually reflect the release of iPhone Software 2.0, which isn’t due to ship until the end of June.
That this software won’t ship until then could suggest that the 3G iPhone will also not ship in quantity until toward the end of June, though it may be announced in advance of that at Apple’s WWDC event next month. Sure, we’ve reported claims the device will ship on keynote day, June 9, in the past, but it remains possible actual physical availability will be for later that month. iPhone-Dieb stellt sich
Der ehemalige Apple-Store-Angestellt Josh Garrard ist zusammen mit einem Komplizen angeklagt, 330 iPhones in einem Apple Store gestohlen zu haben. Garrard war bereits am 25. März verhaftet worden, konnte bisher aber noch nicht an den entsprechenden Bundesstaat ausgeliefert werden. Garrard beschleunigte die Überführung nun allerdings freiwillig.

Aktienoptionsskandal: Klage gegen Apple erneut zurückgewiesen
Der Streit um die Rückdatierung von Aktienoptionsscheinen scheint nun endgültig vom Tisch: Auch in der zweiten Klage des New Yorker Rentenfonds gegen Apple hat Richter Jeremy Fogel einen wirtschaftlichen Schaden verneint und den Antrag zurückgewiesen. Die Aktienaffäre, die schon im vergangenen Jahr für öffentliche Auseinandersetzung sorgte, scheint damit ausgestanden.

Australia: 3G iPhone supports 42Mbps, fast, fast, fast
Apple’s forthcoming 3G iPhone seems set to offer insanely great data transfer speeds, putting the device on par with some broadband connections.
Well, that’s according to an executive from one of Apple’s Australian networks, who told local publication ChannelNews: “We know what is coming. We have seen the new device and it will be available on our network as soon as it is launched in the USA.”
Oh, but it gets better. The exec reveals: “By Christmas, this phone will be capable of 42Mbps, making it faster than a lot of broadband offerings and the fastest iPhone on any network in the world.”

Netapp meldet 17 Prozent Umsatzwachstum

Patent pair: SE puts radar in mobiles, Nokia plays with new designs

We came across a pair of phone patents today so patently palatable that we couldn't help but dish 'em out together. First up is Sony Ericsson's bright idea to shove radar in cellphones. According to the application, the built-in technology could work hand-in-hand with the GPS module and camera to obtain a position, calculate distance to target, determine position / speed of said target using Doppler analysis and present the finalized information to the owner. Over on Nokia's side, the firm has apparently been working on a number of new designs and UI tweaks, even going so far as to draw up a handset with an integrated kickstand. EU fördert Satelliten-Services in ländlichen Gegenden
Das Parlament der Europäischen Union hat neue Kriterien für die Vergabe von Frequenzen an Satellitenmobilfunkdienste verabschiedet. Zune goes down the pan
A leading US electronics retailer has decided to end sales of Microsoft’s Zune player due to insufficient demand.
US video game retailer GameStop has thus applied yet another slap across the face of Microsoft’s attempt to produce an ‘iPod-killer’. Zune has sold two million units since launch, proving itself an unwanted minnow in the sea of Apple competitors.
"'We have decided to exit the Zune category because it just did not have the appeal we had anticipated,' said a GameStop spokesperson," Priya Ganapati reports for TheStreet.com.
The retailer has hundreds of stores across the US. Apple has sold 85 million iPods in the same time period, outselling Microsoft by a factor of 42.5 to 1.

iPhone-Passwort kann leicht umgangen werden
Normalerweise fühlt man sich beim Anlegen eines Passwortes recht sicher. Genau durchdacht, soll es den Zugang auf ein Gerät versperren und die Privatsphäre schützen. Jedoch gibt es mittlerweile unzählige Möglichkeiten so einen Schutz zu umgehen. Auch bei Apples iPhone ist das also nur eine Frage der Zeit. Das Telefon lässt sich zwar mit einem Passwort schützen, aber gerade im Falle eines Diebstahls ist diese Maßnahme unzureichend.

Endlich wieder Land in Sicht: Nach einer nicht unerheblichen Talfahrt entspannt sich der Kurs der Apple derzeit zur Erleichterung der Anleger wieder. AT&T verspricht schnellere 3G-Verbindungen
AT&T, die in den USA das iPhone exklusiv vertreiben, hat angekündigt, dass bis Ende Juni die Überarbeitung der eigenen 3G-Infrastruktur abgeschlossen sein wird. Yahoo verschiebt Hauptversammlung auf Ende Juli

16:9 Ratio Notebook Panel to Become the Default Format in 2009
Currently, most of notebook LCD panel, including those of our notebook, features a 16:10 format. According to Digitimes, 16:9 format should gain 10% per quarter in 2008 to become the default format next year.
The main reason might be driven by the ability of such LCD panel able to display full HD movie. But also for marketing interest, as it would allow to increase the size of the display in inches while not changing much of the true LCD area (in other words 17.1" with a display surface identical to 16:10 15")
So in a near future, we should see the MacBook Pro models to switch to 15.6", 17.1 or 18.4", while the MacBook could adopt 14" LCD.

Notebook-dedicated Burner to Become more Expensive
As reported by Digitimes, with years of price cuts, burners dedicated to notebook became cheaper and cheaper, to such extend that a DVD burner has the price than a Combo drive (we do not thank Apple for still offering such drives on MacBook models). However, it might end, as the price of components should increase again, as announced by Quanta and Lite-On, and it should translate into 3 to 10% more expensive drives. To justify such increase, manufacturers indicate that spinning engines are 10-15% more expensive, while PSU value rose up by 25%.
In parallel, manufacturers of metal case/parts for computers have also claimed that they will increase the price of their products, so at the end notebook and computers in general might become more expensive in a near future.

After having failed to acquire Yahoo, and its pool or daily users, Microsoft is aiming to boost visit and usage of its search engine, Live Search. In order to push, or convince, web surfers that Live Search is worse it, Microsoft is offering financial interest.
By using Search Live CashBack before passing an order, customers will have their Live Search account credited with variable amount of money depending on the value of the purchased product. When the cumulated value reaches 5 USD, customers can claim to get the cash back.

Zum Crinkle-Rock oder -Bluse passen diese Kopfhörer nach einer Spezialbehandlung perfekt: Ein paar Kopfhörer wurde in einer Hosentasche vergessen und kam in die Waschmaschine. Pensions funds cannot sue Apple

Georgia Tech researchers developing tricorder-like medical scanner

Pentax kicks out the waterproof Optio W60
