Guitar Hero IV's new axe spotted: Activision goes indie

Now that we know what Guitar Hero IV's drums will look like, it seems Activision is saying "We don't need no stinkin' replicas!" for the game's guitar controller design. Spotted in Guitar Hero: World Tour's debut trailer, the new axe appears to be a black or cherry non-Gibson, non-Fender, non-anything instrument of random design. We're not surprised, as Activision is surely gun-shy after all those lawsuits and what-not.

Inrix announces "third generation" traffic routing system for GPS devices

Bestlink's Alpha 400 ultraportable is dirt cheap, regular cheap

At least Bestlink has an angle here -- make it dirt cheap -- so its entry isn't totally without merit. The Alpha 400 will apparently be priced from $250 (or $180 in volume), sport a 400MHz (!) Xburst CPU, 128MB of RAM, 1GB or 2GB of flash memory, a 7-inch 800 x 400 display, and will run Windows CE or some form of Linux. All Apple portables will use LED back lighting in 2009
Today, the systems of LED retro-lighting is still too expensive to be proposed for the MacBook. However if one believes Digitimes, the transition will happen during the coming year.

Apple sued over the Mighty Mouse
Source : Apple Insider A small firm, Landover-based Man & Machine, has just deposited a claim against Apple concerting abusive use of one of its trade marks, " Mighty Mouse". It has had for a long time a mouse with this name in its catalogue.
The discussion will be interesting, since Mighty Mouse in the United States is the name of a cartoon hero, known in France under the name of Super Mouse, thus it is rather a generic name.

Nintendo pushes back against 149.1 million Euro fine

LED screens for next-gen MacBooks, report suggests
All MacBooks released in 2009 will carry LED backlight screens, claims Taiwan’s Economic Daily News, via DigiTimes.
The report reveals backlight maker Kenmos Technology last year emerged to be Apple’s leading provider of screens, with the company set to widen its franchise through the company’s computers next uear. Kenmos is expected to ship 1.5 million LEDs this year and already provides the LED screens used in the MacBook Pro and Air computers.
Apple CEO Steve Jobs last year promised to make the switch to LED screens as part of the company’s attempt to become more environmentally responsible, though he declined to say when this switch would take place.

Emtec's gdium EM-PC laptop does not look like the Eee

Here's what we can tell you about the Emtec gdium EM-PC mini-laptop;
It does not resemble the ASUS Eee PC at all.
It does contain an 8.9-inch 1024 x 600 display, flash-based storage (though no word on capacity), a Linux-based OS, and a webcam.
The company is touting its "GKey," which is a removable dongle that manages the security and authentication for the laptop.
It will be available in July in Australia for AUD $449, or about US $420.
It looks nothing like the Eee.

Rock Band für die Xbox 360 ab heute im Handel
Ab heute ist das Musikspiel Rock Band erhältlich. Das vielfach ausgezeichnete Musikspiel von Harmonix, MTV Games und Vertriebspartner Electronic Arts ist zwar derzeit in Deutschland nur für die Xbox-360-Konsole verfügbar, trotzdem dürfte es den ein oder anderen Besitzer der Mac-Version des konkurrierenden Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock interessieren, ob der dort mitgelieferte Gitarren-Controller mit der Xbox-Version von Rock Band harmoniert.

Apple’s Mac sales shot up 50 per cent year-on-year in April, driving a 46 per cent spike in revenue, according to the NPD Group.

Apple’s senior vice-president of industrial design Jonathan Ive offered a rare interview with the Independent in the UK to mark Apple’s recent win of two coveted Black Pencils at the world’s leading creative industry awards.

Apple and CBS are being sued for trademark infringement by a competing interface manufacturer.
The case against Apple and CBS was filed by a firm called Man and Machine. It alleges Apple began selling its Mighty Mouse over one year after Man and Machine began selling waterproof and chemical resistant mice under the same name to labs and hospitals in 2004.
The company claims its earlier use trumps Apple's.

DDR3-Speicher von Corsair erreicht 2.462 MHz
Dass die Entwicklung von DDR3-Speicher noch in den Grundzügen steckt und erst in den nächsten Jahren den aktuellen Standardspeicher ablösen wird, ist allgemein bekannt. So verwundert es nicht, dass ab und an Rekorde erreicht werden, die nicht allzu lange Bestand haben dürften.

Eine nette Idee, jedoch recht lieblos umgesetzt kommt von Nike: Das französische House-Duo Cassius hat einen Song eingespielt, der seinen Hörern laut Nike ein komplett neues Lauferlebnis bereiten wird. Den durchaus gefälligen Track kann man zusammen mit einem weiteren Stück bei Nike kostenlos als ZIP-Archiv herunterladen. Sehr schade und unprofessionell allerdings, dass die MP3-Files ohne ID-Tags angeboten werden.

Die Deutsche Telekom prüft ein Gebot für den afrikanischen Mobilfunkbetreiber MTN, der einen Börsenwert von rund 25 Milliarden Euro hat. Intel nimmt Produktion in China nach Erdbeben wieder auf

25 Prozent der iPhone-Interessenten zögern
Die Berichterstattung quer durch alle Medien zeigt Wirkung: In den USA dürfte kaum ein iPhone-Interessent nicht wissen, dass die zweite Generation vor der Tür steht. Bei einer Umfrage unter 3600 Interessenten gaben 14 Prozent an auf das neue Modell zu warten und 11 Prozent erwarten 3G-Kompatibilität. 24 Prozent nannten als Grund für ihre verschobene Kaufentscheidung die Kosten für Vertrag und Telefon. Juni wird Monat der Grafikkarten
Nach Informationen von Hardmac werden sowohl NVIDIA als auch AMD im nächsten Monat neue Grafikkarten-Modelle auf den Markt werfen. NVIDIA möchte angeblich griffigere Namen für die eigenen Modelle einführen und anstatt Bezeichnungen wie GeForce 8000 etc. in Zukunft auf kurze Label nach dem dem Motto “GTX 2x0” setzen. AMD: Desktop-Fusion 2010, Notebook 2008?
Normalerweise kauft man sich einen einzelnen Prozessor sowie eine separate Grafikkarte im Handel, wenn man einen Computer aufbauen möchte, gleichgültig, ob es eine High-End-Maschine oder nur ein treues Arbeitstier sein soll. In letzterem Fall kann man auch zu einem Mainboard mit einer integrierten Grafikeinheit greifen.

Galaxy bringt 9600 GT im Low-Profile-Format

Roku: A Serious Competitor for the Apple TV?
Source : TGdailyNetflix introduced a streaming box, aka Roku, which will allow you to get access to Netflix "all-you-can-eat movie downloads" download service. The 100 USD Roku box lets you connect and browse through available Netflix content, which currently consists of about 10,000 titles, then you can download movies and TV series directly to your television set. Neue iPhone Gerüchte: UMTS ab Mitte Juni
Das US-Blog Gizmodo will sehr vertrauenswürdige Informationen zu der für Juni erwarteten nächsten iPhone-Generation haben. Das neue Modell soll, ausgestattet mit UMTS-Technologie, in den USA direkt nach der Präsentation am 9. Juni erhältlich sein. Angeblich wird auch die Preisbindung beim iPhone aufgeweicht, dies bedeutet, dass die Provider zukünftig auch attraktive Vertragspakete mit stark subventionierten Geräten schnüren können.
Auch in Europa sollen die neuen Geräte sehr schnell, voraussichtlich Mitte Juni in den Handel kommen.
