NVIDIA: Snow Leopard will benefit from Fermi
The just-unveiled Fermi graphics architecture will find its way into Macs and play an important role in Mac OS X Snow Leopard, NVIDIA chief scientist Bill Dally said today. While it's expected that NVIDIA would continue to play an important part of future Macs, the researcher drew a particular connection between the new GPU design and Apple's new OS, expecting that it would provide a significant boost for those apps that implement OpenCL. Windows 7 will also get support through DirectX 11 and DirectCompute.

iPhone (3G/S): Pwnage 3.1.3 kompatibel mit iPhone 3GS
Mit Release des PwnageTool in Version 3.1.3 ist das Tool nun auch mit Firmware-Revisionen für das iPhone 3GS kompatibel.
Die goldene Regel hierbei: Nur iPhone 3G/S, welche noch nicht auf 3.1 via iTunes gebracht wurden oder damit ausgeliefert wurden, können mit Hilfe eines custom ipsw-Images erstellt via PwnageTool auf Version 3.1 gejaibreaked gebracht werden.

Nokia E72 NAM up for $469 preorder on Amazon
It's not hard to find Nokia users that believe the E71 is the finest S60 device (if not the finest device, period) that the company has ever made, so expectations for the E72 are at a stratospheric high. Impatience for a retail release is also at a stratospheric high, coincidentally, so Americans will be pleased to see that Amazon now has the unlocked North American version of the "zodium black" phone listed for $469 -- without a release date, unfortunately, so it's still a guessing game as to when these will actually be shipping

General Imaging reveals G3WP waterproof camera
General Imaging has recently added its first waterproof point-and-shoot digital camera to its lineup, the G3WP. It sports a 12.2-megapixel sensor, 4x optical zoom and a 4.5x digital zoom. Users can take photos safely at depths of up to nearly 10 feet thanks to its case, with shots framed on a 2.7-inch LCD screen. The camera has 116MB of built-in memory, but supports SDHC cards up to 8GB in capacity.

HTC Pure starting to show up in AT&T stores, not for sale just yet
We'll withhold judgment until we have a far more intimate encounter with the device, but at a glance, the HTC Pure -- AT&T's branded, customized version of the Touch Diamond2 -- might carry the least-exciting industrial design of any variant launched thus far. Considering the business-oriented clientele, that might not be a big deal for the phone's bottom line -- but when you take a look at the slightly better-equipped Imagio that's about to launch over on Verizon, we would've liked to have seen something with a little more spunk here. Palm Pixi to launch on October 20th? Not so fast.
Okay, so we've been hearing whispers all morning that Palm and Sprint are gearing up to launch the Pixi on October 20th, and while we hate to be the bearer of bad news, we've been in contact with sources who would definitely have a better perspective on this phone's launch, and the word is that the aforementioned date is not accurate. So when will the Pixi launch? We'd still say it'll be well before the holidays -- and now that the Pre is down to $79, we're hoping it'll be super cheap. Three NVIDIA Fermi-based chipsets on launch?
NVIDIA's Fermi architecture will start with three models if it ships before the end of the year as promised, one leak from Friday claims. A flagship single-chip model would have the 512 cores NVIDIA is advertising, but a second model would, like the GeForce GTX 295, have two slightly less powerful chipsets on one card that combined would be much faster. The slowdown may be necessary as Fudzilla believes the card would have a peak thermal power of 300W.

LG GW620 Android phone spotted in the wild, on video
We haven't heard much from LG about its new GW620 Android phone since it got official with it back in mid-September (and at IFA before that), but it looks like it's now made an official outing in France, where plenty of folks were on hand to get an up-close look at it. Apple to get new Mighty Mouse; Keyboards?
The Apple news sites are buzzing with the latest patent filings from Apple suggesting an upcoming update to the Mighty Mouse. Just like nearly everyone I know that has owned a Mighty Mouse my experience with the device is that of extreme highs and low lows. Love, hate at its truest form. For all its amazing features, the Mighty Mouse has been the source of more than a few frustrations--most related to the nebulous scroll nub located between the left and right click areas. The new iteration of the Mighty Mouse, to my great delight, will do away with this gray ball of frustration and replace it with a more comforting multi-touch technology.

A-DATA intros rare waterproof hard drive
A-DATA recently showed the first waterproof and shock resistant portable hard drive, its SH93. First Looks: Sanrio/Spectra Hello Kitty Wrap for iPhone 3G/3GS
Who knew the Hello Kitty case business could be so competitive? Back in August, we saw hard plastic shells from Power Support, and now Spectra/Jensen has the Hello Kitty Wrap for iPhone 3G/3GS, a different version made from medium-hardness rubber. New smaller Apple wireless keyboard and rectangular mouse hit the FCC
Engadget's got the quickly-removed-from-the-FCC new mouse and keyboard that Apple plans on rolling out in the next few weeks. Interestingly, the keyboard is smaller (that old wireless keyboard was way too big!) and the mouse is more rectangular that the current Mighty Mouse.

AUO aims for $100 e-book readers by 2011
E-book readers have certainly been getting better and cheaper lately, but it looks like display-maker AUO thinks there's still plenty of room for improvement, and it's now promising to cut the price of 'em fully in half within two years. The key to that, obviously, is to make the displays cheaper, which AUO says it can do by not only improving the technology, but by taking advantage of the sheer scale of its production capabilities. That, it says, could allow for a $150 e-book reader by next year, and a $100 reader by 2011. Pandora rolls into production this month, emulates Dreamcast now
The OpenPandora kids have dropped us a line to say that yes, finally, "after a lot of serious tweaking," it looks like Pandora is ready to roll. And as an added bonus, they've given us a little demonstration of the open source game platform rocking a Dreamcast emulator. Not that you'll be able to play The House of The Dead 2 flawlessly on the thing -- apparently the CPU suffers from some sort of floating point unit problem and a great many texture / blending modes are not supported. Apple, Eminem publisher reach out-of-court settlement
Apple and Eight Mile Style, the publisher for rapper Eminem, have come to an out-of-court settlement in a long-running music dispute, writes the Associated Press. Matters were concluded only after five days of a Detroit trial, during which lawyers contested sales at the iTunes Store. The rights to Emimem's albums are owned by Aftermath Records, which years ago signed an agreement with Apple to sell tracks through iTunes.

Symbian phones to hit 180m by 2014, iPhone unhurt
The number of Symbian phones on the market should more than double in the next five years but won't have much of an impact on important rivals like the iPhone, a new study from Juniper Research said. Shipments should swell from 87 million phones from Nokia, Samsung and other Symbian supporters in 2009 to about 180 million by 2014. The expected increase is credited to a larger push towards partly or completely open-source code on phones. Combined with Android and LiMo (Linux Mobile) devices, about 223 million open-source devices should ship in 2014 as a result.

RIM posts BlackBerry Desktop Software for Mac
As promised earlier this week, Research in Motion has launched a dedicated Mac management tool, now rechristened the BlackBerry Desktop Software. Acer also dropping most Windows Mobile phones?
Acer is the next smartphone maker to move much of its attention away from Windows Mobile, sources within the field hinted today. Even though as recently as February it promised mostly Windows Mobile phones, DigiTimes has heard the company is now switching its attention to Google's Android and should ship "at least half" of its 2010 phones with the mostly open-source OS. The first Acer-made Android phone, the A1, is now estimated to ship in November.

Sony outs pink Vaio W, Touch Reader bundles for Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Sony's announced it will support Breast Cancer Awareness month by outing two new bundles -- and both of them are super pink. The first bundle will include a Berry Pink 10.5-inch Vaio W with an Intel Atom N280 CPU, 1GB of RAM, and a 160GB hard drive, plus a matching sleeve and mouse. The second bundle will include the special edition Rose Touch Reader with a gold clutch case, plus download codes for four e-books. Analysts point to universal content, high 2010 iPhone sales
UBS analyst Maynard Um has switched his rating for Apple stock from Neutral to Buy, and substantially raised his price target, pushing it from $170 to $265. The increase is linked mainly to predictions of repeating iPhone hardware revenue, driven by a growing install base, and the "stickiness" of the App Store. Remember this little guy? That's right, it's the nearly forgotten iriver B30 which we caught our first glimpses of way back in May. This pmp packs DAB radio with RPG recording for listening later on, a 2.8-inch QVGA display, a microSD expansion slot, and comes in 8 and 16GB varieties with a battery that's supposed to get you 40 hours of audio and about 6 hours of video time. ATI Radeon HD 5750 seen, detailed in leak
AMD's first mainstream graphics chipset in its ATI Radeon HD 5000 series has been leaked with photos, specifications and even performance tests. The reference model seen by Chinese site MyMyPC is a dual-slot card but has a unique teardrop-shaped cooling system. It should be a slightly scaled-back version of the 5800 line with 1,120 effects cores (versus 1,440 for the 5850), a 700MHz core (down from 725MHz) and an unknown amount of 1,150MHz GDDR5 memory.

iPhone sales to double in 2010 as carriers dance the Apple tune
Apple could double iPhone sales in 2010 as it drops exclusivity deals in key territories and works to extend its digital media principalities across its product range, analysts said this morning. Meanwhile the extreme secrecy of the company’s dealings with Orange and Vodafone to diversify iPhone distribution in the UK has come to light.
Analysts at UBS and Morgan Stanley this morning raised price targets on the company’s stock.
UBS upped its target to $265 from $170, saying iPhone prospects look bright. The analyst firm also said, “Apple may be working on building out a foundation for a service ot provide seamless access and mobility of digital content across its products,”

A wee bit of the fanfare was taken out of the Squeezebox Radio announcement when the FCC went ahead and told us all about the party before Logitech had a chance to jump out from behind the sofa and yell "Surprise!" Expected or not, we've now got ourselves a streaming radio for testing in the house. It has a trendy, piano-black, fingerprint-magnet coating on the outside that looks classy as long as you can keep it clean, separate volume and scroll knobs on the front, and a little on the back that could make it a nice portable. iPhone sales to double in 2010 as carriers dance the Apple tune
Apple could double iPhone sales in 2010 as it drops exclusivity deals in key territories and works to extend its digital media principalities across its product range, analysts said this morning. Meanwhile the extreme secrecy of the company’s dealings with Orange and Vodafone to diversify iPhone distribution in the UK has come to light.
Analysts at UBS and Morgan Stanley this morning raised price targets on the company’s stock.

Sony finished the week with word of one of the first wireless power systems that could supply significant amounts of energy. The approach uses a magnetic resonance technique that has the device operating on a frequency receptive to that of the energy itself. AdMob: Erfolgreichste Smartphones nach Regionen
In ihrem monatlichen Report der Spezialisten für mobile Marketing AdMob haben diese sich diesmal auf das Thema "Top-Endgeräte" konzentriert. Aus den Ergebnissen: Basierend auf August-Daten lässt sich 50 Prozent der im AdMob messbaren Smartphone-Nutzung in den USA auf das iPhone zurückführen, BlackBerry und Android folgen mit 14 und 13 Prozent. Besonders in Nordamerika und Europa holt Android mit dem Erfolg von HTC Dream und Magic aber schnell auf. Klammert man die USA aus, liegen Nokia-Smartphones addiert immer noch auf Rang 1 der Endgeräte-Liste. In Westeuropa liegen N97 und Xpress Music auf Rang 4 und 5.

Cyclopedia mixes Wikipedia and augmented reality on the iPhone
Cyclopedia ($2 App store) is a new iPhone application that allows to to view geo-tagged Wikipedia articles in a augmented reality browser. The browser uses the iPhone's camera to create a backdrop while the Wikipedia articles are displayed around the backdrop of the view.

Sony Unveils a 3D Camcorder
Another proof that many companies are working hard to quickly integrate of 3D technologies in the video chain. Sony just unveiled a camcorder able to record in 3D on a single pass with a single optical system whereas most 3D camcorders are based on a dual lenses. Here the image is separated thanks to a set of mirrors, while captures is carried out at 240 fps:

Do Your .DMG Files Mount Properly with Snow Leopard?
CNET reports a problem affecting several Mac users: .dmg files do not mount with Snow Leopard. This is a serious problem as this is a rather standard and heavily used format for AMc OS X. There is currently no solution to fix this bug, even though deleting some preferences might temporary solve the issue:Said files are: "com.apple.frameworks.diskimages.uiagent" and "com.apple.diskimages.fsck" located in Preferences folder of the Library of your user account (home). It seems to be required to reboot the computer after erasing them. As it does not affect most or all users, this bug might well be associated with the installation of a specific application, and unless it is identified as belonging to Apple Apps, this problem will most likely take time to be fixed.

GE shows off 1TB holographic discs but Wolf Blitzer remains skeptical

Perceptive Automation has released v4.1 of its home control server, Indigo. The latest version adds support for SmartLabs' PowerLinc Modem and Insteon extended messages which can be used to control Insteon products and enhance the speed and reliability of device linking to the software. The update also features an improved automatic reconnection tool for serial devices and improved Insteon link syncing for PowerLinc interfaces. QuickTime 7.6.4 causing playback problems on Windows?

Amid the growing rumors surrounding an Apple tablet, the company has filed for a patent involving hand gestures on a touchscreen much larger than the iPhone display. Paid apps hitting the Pre tomorrow?

18% of Macs using Snow Leopard in one month
More than a sixth of all Macs are already running Mac OS X Snow Leopard in just over a month of use, new findings from NetApplications show. On September 29th, the one month anniversary of the release, about 18 percent of all Macs tracked by the stats firm were using some version of Snow Leopard, or 0.91 percent of all computers.
