Ads hint at lighter MacBook, thinner iMac
A trio of new Google AdSense ads that surfaced this weekend have alluded to new iMacs and Mac minis as well as a similarly redesigned MacBook. Searches on the Dutch version of Google with the right keywords have shown AppleInsider text ads for a "brand new," "ultra thin" iMac in 20- and 24-inch models and a "thinner, lighter and stronger" MacBook. A Mac mini ad touts the system as "faster and more affordable than ever" but sells it for 499 Euros where the lowest official Netherlands price is 599 Euros.

PSP Go scores its first mod job, a handful of white LEDs find a new purpose in life
Who knows what it is about the PSP that engenders such a loyal following of hackers -- both on the hardware and software side. Some of the hardware hacks we've seen are no doubt more impressive than others, but they're all united in a common disregard for warranties and for the most part a deep affection for LEDs. The first PSP Go mod we've seen, done up by roro3030 over at AcidMods, keeps things simple with some strategic, tasteful white LED placement. It's all internally powered and pretty seamless, and provides a nice jumping off point for a community that will be no-doubt eager to consume the PSP

Dell Zino HD spotted slumming it in Inspiron 300 and Inspiron 400 support docs
The last time we ran past Dell's Zino HD all we had to go on specs-wise was that it housed "desktop parts" and had some nice plugs around back. Now the folks at the appropriately named DellZinoHD blog have found a spec breakdown of the unit, which is apparently also going by the names of Inspiron 300 and Inspiron 400 -- the latter of which seems to be slated for the Zino HD branding, or at least seems to mirror the original concept. The Inspiron 300 has more of a nettop slant, with an Atom processor and integrated graphics, and though it has a DVD burner and 3.5-inch HDD, there won't be HDMI or eSATA ports. Palm reignites iTunes Sync war with WebOS 1.2.1
Now equipped with built-in support for Amazon’s MP3 store as a back-up plan, Palm has once again equipped the Palm Pre with the ability to sync with iTunes, offering up WebOS 1.2.1 to achieve the same.
Release notes accompanying the new software state the release: “Resolves an issue preventing media sync from working with latest version of iTunes (9.0.1)”.
We’re curious what Apple’s next move on the matter will be, particularly because Palm’s move to complain to the USB Forum over Apple’s denial of iTunes sync saw the Pre-maker castigated for the way it used Apple’s Vendor ID to enable iTunes sync.

PwnageTool 3.1.3 for OS X ships, supports iPhone 3GS
Following September’s release of a partial jailbreaking tool for iPhone OS 3, the iPhone Dev Team today introduced PwnageTool 3.1.3, which will now also unlock an iPhone 3GS.
The tool will not however function on an iPhone 3GS which has iPhone OS.3.1 installed. The iPod touch (second generation) is also now supported, though the most recent third edition model is not.
The developers state:
“The iPhone 3GS is now supported in PwnageTool 3.1.3, assuming the phone was pwned at 3.0 or 3.0.1 - PwnageTool does not support the 3GS out of the box. If your iPhone 3GS has 3.1 preinstalled and is not Pwned then there is no tested jailbreak sol

Eminem-Anwälte und Apple einigen sich
Viele Musiker, frühe Bandmitglieder und Manager wurden schon als fünfter Beatle bezeichnet, ein Name fehlte bisher: Eminem. New Mighty mouse; we can break open the Champagne !
Appleinsider is now convinced, Apple is about to put the Mighty mouse into retirement and to offer a new model, certainly fitted with a tactile multitouch surface in the place of the top cover.
Engadget succeeded in finding sketches of a new mouse and also a new keyboard on the American site for patents.
We do not hide our joy with the idea that the end is in sight for this mouse.

Palm restarts with iTunes
Palm has just updated the OS of its Pre to version 1.2.1. In addition to the correction of some bugs and some improvements, they again have found a means of circumventing the iTunes protection and again it is possible to synchronize their telephone with the application of Apple.
One is really in a situation of war between Apple and Palm where each one party exchanging blows with its adversary. Even though we understand this situation between Apple and the Devteam jailbreaking the iPhone, it seems now as if these two large companies are pushing each other to see who will give up first.

Dev-Team jailbreaks iPhone 3.1 for 3GS
Crackers at the iPhone Dev-Team began the weekend by releasing an updated version of PwnageTool that can jailbreak the iPhone 3GS. The 3.1.3 tool works only as long as the Apple phone was jailbroken with firmware 3.0 or 3.0.1 and won't work if the phone is already at Apple's official 3.1. The second-generation iPod touch can now also be de-restricted under the same firmware limits as the 3GS.

Slow speed of Samsung 32nm memory; It is the fault of the SSD controllers
Following an announcement of a problem with the speed of the Samsung 32nm memory making them unsuitable for use in SSD disks, Daylitech received an official answer. They announce that their new class of memory 3xnm can not be used with the current SSD disk controllers, particularly those of lower quality. The explanation given for the slowness is that as this memory is engraved more finely it makes it more difficult for the electrons to pass through the gates, and this causes errors normally corrected by ECC (Error Correcting Code) management of the controllers. Palm's webOS 1.2.1 restores iTunes sync again
Palm today quietly circumvented Apple's protective measures again with webOS 1.2.1. Its second update in a week is the first to restore iTunes syncing for the Pre since iTunes 8.2 and will let the Pre take media from iTunes 9.0.1 as though it were a native device in the jukebox software. It even adds deeper integration and will now sync photo albums as well as lower-resolution versions that save space on the phone.

GeeksPhone One in the wild, now packing a physical keyboard
Remember the Spanish-borne Android device GeeksPhone One? It was late June when we got our first (and so far only) look at the phone. Of course we've been wanting some more time, but apparently Xataka's beaten us to the punch, and lo and behold, she's gotten herself a shiny new physical keyboard. The site stresses that the user interface isn't done and the icons temporary, but does note that the keyboard is comfortable and the total weight and size is apparently comparable to the HTC Dream / Ion / MyTouch 3G. Runde 3: Palm Pre mit iTunes 9.0.1 kompatibel
Am schönsten sind doch immer noch die Updatebeschreibungen: webOS 1.2.1 behebt ein "Problem, welches die Synchronisierung mit der aktuellsten iTunes-Version verhindert". Das "Problem" ist natürlich Apple selbst und auch nach dem Update steht die Firmenzentrale in Cupertino noch. Umgekehrt sieht Apple in den "Pre-Pods" ein "Problem bei der Identifizierung von iPod-Geräten".

Rogers' Rocket Hub disguises 3G data and voice as mild-mannered home modem
Good news for Canadians who can't seem to get a decent internet plan for home. Rogers has unveiled a 3G station for residential use dubbed the Rocket Hub, and with it a number of jet propulsion-related puns that we'll be taking painstaking measures to avoid. It boasts 7.2Mbps HSPA, WiFi and ethernet out, and voice calls over UMTS. Makes sense it's riding an Ericsson W3x core. TSMC: 450-mm-Wafer (18 Zoll) ab 2012

SSD-Probleme mit Samsungs 32-nm-Flash-Chips
Wie wir bereits im Mai meldeten, produzieren sowohl Toshiba als auch Samsung bereits Flash Chips im 32-nm-Verfahren. Durch die günstigere Produktion werden die Flash- und damit auch SSD-Preise wieder stärker fallen. Anscheinend gibt es mit den neuen Chips aber auch ein paar Probleme.

Palm WebOS 1.2.1 now available, 'fixes' iTunes media sync
The game's back on. Palm just announced the availability of its 1.2.1 update to WebOS for the Palm Pre and, well, that's it for the time being. It fixes Exchange mail syncing issues experienced by some users, which is nice, but for everyone else it re-enables media sync with iTunes 9.0.1, with or without the USB-IF's support. Neue Apple-Maus und -Tastatur bei der FCC gesichtet
Alles was funkt, muss von der FCC getestet werden, ob es nicht außer seinem eigentlichen Verwendungszweck weiteren Schabernack anrichtet. Pflichtgemäß veröffentlicht die FCC ihre Ergebnisse, zusammen mit Zeichnungen, die das Produkt grob beschreiben. Das war im Fall der neuen Bluetooth-Tastatur und -Maus schon zuviel: Apple erhob Einspruch, die überarbeiteten Dokumente enthalten nun keine verräterischen Daten mehr.

Noch kein Geniestreich: Genius
"Es gibt tausende von Apps im App Store, und jeden Tag kommen mehr dazu", jubelt Apple im Web. Dass dieses App-Schlaraffenland auch ziemlich unübersichtlich ist, haben nicht nur iPhone Developer bereits bemerkt. "Genius" soll nun dafür sorgen, dass nicht mehr ganz so viele Apps völlig unbemerkt untergehen. Genius für Apps funktioniert wie Genius für Musik auf iTunes: Ein Touch auf "Genius" unter "Highlights" gibt "Empfehlungen für Apps anhand der Apps" aus, "die du und andere schon geladen haben". Die Idee, die beispielsweise beim Pandora Music Genome Project oder bei Last.fm so hervorragend aufgeht, zeitigt hier allerdings noch wenig zufriedenstellende Ergebnisse: Wenn nämlich beispielsweise immer nur Empfehlungen aufgrund der Downloadstärksten Handvoll Apps ausgegeben werden oder wenn der Umstand, dass man ein Übersetzungstool geladen hat, in der Empfehlung eines Ballerspiels resultiert. Dennoch einen Versuch wert.

Nokia plugs itself into the Wireless Power Consortium
The Wireless Power Consortium has already managed to attract some pretty big players in the industry (including Philips, Sanyo and Duracell), but it's now bolstered its roster with one of its biggest heavyweights yet by announcing that Nokia has signed on as a full member. New smaller Apple wireless keyboard and rectangular mouse hit the FCC
Engadget's got the quickly-removed-from-the-FCC new mouse and keyboard that Apple plans on rolling out in the next few weeks. Interestingly, the keyboard is smaller (that old wireless keyboard was way too big!) and the mouse is more rectangular that the current Mighty Mouse.

Psystar attorney quits legal team in Apple lawsuit
Psystar shuffled its defense this week as one of the attorneys defending the Mac clone builder left its team. A filing has revealed that lawfirm Welker and Rosario's co-founder, David Welker, exited the team for unknown reasons but said he only played a small role in defending against Apple's copyright accusations. The defense member was responsible for filing some of Psystar's more recent filings, including those demanding Apple executives re-appear as witnesses, but said he neither worked with Psystar first-hand nor received pay for his efforts.
