Adobe releases Camera Raw 5.5 plug-in for CS4
Adobe Labs has announced the availability of release candidates for v5.5 of its Camera Raw plug-in for Photoshop, along with an update to the company's DNG Converter. The latest version of Camera Raw expands support for several new cameras including the Nikon D300s, Nikon D3000, Olympus E-P1 and Panasonic DMC-FZ35.

Web browsers get much of their functionality from the plug-ins they use, such as QuickTime, Flash, and Windows Media; however, there are numerous other plug-ins for displaying a variety of similar content. Sometimes viewing media with a specific plug-in will not work properly, and either display a warning of sorts, or it will seem to load fine but not play or give any output.

Epson intros two Artisan all-in-one printers
Epson on Wednesday announced the upcoming release of the Artisan 710 and 810 all-in-one printers, each sporting integrated an Wi-Fi connection in addition to their Ethernet ports. Either can print on both sides of a page to save paper, while compatible devices can be charged via the printers' front-mounted USB port. Apple sells 25% of music in the US, none of which is AC/DC
According to the number crunchers at NPD Group, the trend that came to a head last year when Apple beat out Wal-Mart for the title of largest Stateside music retailer is continuing apace. That's right -- one in four songs sold in America is sold on iTunes, while Wal-Mart (including CD sales through retail stores, sales through their website, and Wal-Mart Music Downloads) holds the number two position at 14 percent. And number three, if you're morbidly curious, is Best Buy. In addition, 69% of all digital music sold in the US comes from the iTunes store, with Amazon ranking second at 8 percent.

Boris FX has released Continuum Motion Tracker, which includes four specialized filters for gathering and utilizing motion data from video. The Corner Pin filter allows users to map media to a specific area on a moving object. Snoods für den iPod touch und das iPhone
Die Snoods dürfte zumindest ein Teil von euch kennen, jetzt bringt Electronic Arts das bekannte Computerspiel auf den iPod touch und das iPhone. Auf den ersten Blick sieht man eine Ähnlichkeit mit Tetris, allerdings fallen die Snoods nicht willkürlich von oben herunter, sondern werden mit einer Kanone auf die anderen Spielfiguren geschossen. Sobald drei gleiche Snoods nebeneinander liegen, lösen sich diese in Luft auf. Verloren hat man, wenn der erste Snood den unteren Bildschirmrand berührt. Microsoft Office Web coming to iPhone via Safari?

Editorial: A slimmer, cheaper, better PS3. Was that so hard?
I've wanted a PlayStation 3 since forever. It plays Blu-ray movies, it has some great exclusive titles, and it looks like it could beat somebody up without breaking a sweat across its glossy matte brow. But it's always seemed out of reach price-wise. As my desire grew stronger over recent months, I found myself unable to pull the trigger: I just didn't want to pay $400 for a video game console that came out in 2006. The fact that I could get a lot more for my $400 than $500 would've gotten me at launch was hardly consolation, given that the PS3's main competition, the Xbox 360, has been available in a "full fledged" edition for $300 for a while. iPhone 3GS still in short supply in Canada
The iPhone 3GS continues to be unavailable in much of Canada, writes the Globe and Mail. Despite promises of continual shipments, Rogers says it is once again out of stock for the iPhone 3GS -- launched in June of this year -- and even the iPhone 3G, released in 2008. The carrier's sub-brand, Fido, is still said to have some 3G models in stock.

Nikon issues statement on second D5000 recall
It's never a great feeling to get an expensive new gadget only to have it promptly ripped from your hands by a mandatory recall, but those that have gone through such an ordeal can consider themselves somewhat lucky, as Nikon has now issued a statement explaining its second recall of some already recalled D5000 DSLRs. Blackberry browser to support Flash and Silverlight
We're not sure what kind of processors are going into the new Blackberries, but they are going to have to be pretty burly to handle the new technologies being thrown at it. BlackBerry browser to get full Flash and Silverlight support?
Sounds like RIM's trying to do more than just bring the woeful BlackBerry browser up to par with the competition -- Boy Genius Report says Waterloo's trying to leap way out in front by building in full Flash and Silverlight support. IDC: Immer mehr Firmen nutzen Linux - auch ohne Lizenz
IDC zufolge wird der Umsatz mit Linux zwischen den Jahren 2008 und 2013 im Schnitt um 16,9 Prozent wachsen. Am Ende dieser Frist erwarten die Analysten einen Umsatz von mehr als 1,2 Milliarden Dollar. Das werden rund 4 Prozent des kompletten Softwaremarkts sein (2008: 2,2 Prozent). Sony-Computer-Entertainment-CEO Kazuo Hirai hat im Vorfeld der internationalen Videospielemesse Gamescom in Köln eine schlankere Variante der Playstation 3 namens PS3 Slim vorgestellt. Sure, the G11 might grab all the headlines, but there's tons of meat to the rest of Canon's new point and shoots. Canon might have announced a slew of new compacts today, but we're thinking the most exciting news might be this image of the legendary EOS 7D. Canon PowerShot G11 hands-on
We'll certainly be going back for seconds, but at first blush Canon's new PowerShot G11 is quite the attractive piece. The real standout, of course, is that flip-out LCD -- which feels bolted on by the gods -- but really the whole camera's build quality (and corresponding weight) is immediately obvious. We found the LCD plenty bright and colorful, though it certainly feels small for a modern camera. The price isn't small, but hopefully the RAW, 10 megapixel results will speak for themselves.

Sony Released its PS3 Slim
After months of rumors, SONY finally officially released its expected PS3 Slim.
The new model will be 100 € cheaper (299 €) while being 30% smaller in size and draining 30% less power than the original one. This can be partially achieved thank to a processor engraved at 45 nm. With such new design and price, SONY might revive sales of its game station which is also a perfect and upgradable Blu-ray player.

Nintendo DS simulator gets pulled from App Store
A popular iPhone app based on the Nintendo DS handheld has been pulled from the App Store, investigation reveals. The app, DS DoubleSys, does not allow users to play DS games; it instead simulates the interface of the DS, including a number of menus and sound effects. Two original games, including a rhythm title, can nevertheless be played from within DoubleSys.

MSFT pins hopes on Win Mobile 7 - late 2010
Microsoft seems scared, wooing iPhone developers to bring their WWDC-invented ideas to its Windows Mobile platform, while inventing a dual platform pitch to compete with Android and Apple.
Microsoft isn’t expected to introduce a fully updated version of Windows Mobile until next year, but will ship it the upgraded Windows Mobile 6.5 in October. But Windows Mobile partners won’t feel the magic touch - Microsoft won’t be enabling touch interfaces until a little later, in February 2010, reports Digitimes.

Apple to shift 50 million iPhones in FY '11
Apple seems set to shift over 50 million iPhones worldwide by September 2011, said Bernstein Research analyst, Tony Sacconaghi, last night.
That’s up from an estimated 20 million sales in 2009, the analyst explained - and it is not rocket science, the analyst reckons Apple will achieve these targets simply by retaining its current share of the smartphone market and by making the device available through more carriers.
The analyst expects the smartphone sector to jump 27 per cent a year for the next two years, adding 10.3 million iPhone sales to Apple’s balance sheet.

Canon's PowerShot G10 has lived a long, fruitful life, but after being on the market for right around a year now, it's time for a proper successor to step in and take things over. The slick little bugger you see above purports to be that very device, with the predictably titled PowerShot G11 supposedly boasting a swiveling LCD, 10 megapixel sensor, 5x optical zoom lens, optical image stabilization, SD / SDHC card slot and full manual controls with RAW support and a hotshoe. Logitech bows track-anywhere laser mice
Logitech on Wednesday answered Microsoft's BlueTrack with two mice using its own technology to work on any available surface. Nvidia arbeitet angeblich an Chipsatz für Nehalem-CPUs
Einem Bericht der chinesischsprachigen Technologie-Website HKEPC zufolge plant Nvidia, eine Version seines Chipsatzes MCP99 für Nehalem-Prozessoren und Intels Direct Media Interface (DMI) herauszubringen. Apple to shift 50 million iPhones in FY '11
Apple seems set to shift over 50 million iPhones worldwide by September 2011, said Bernstein Research analyst, Tony Sacconaghi, last night.
That’s up from an estimated 20 million sales in 2009, the analyst explained - and it is not rocket science, the analyst reckons Apple will achieve these targets simply by retaining its current share of the smartphone market and by making the device available through more carriers.
The analyst expects the smartphone sector to jump 27 per cent a year for the next two years, adding 10.3 million iPhone sales to Apple’s balance sheet.

Windows 7 will cost half as much in the UK as in the US, crikey!
Happy news for our British readers today -- Microsoft is selling Windows 7 Home Premium in the UK at the bargain price of £65 for the full (non-upgrade) version. Converted to $107, that's less than Americans have to shell out just for an upgrade ($120) and about half the price of the full thing ($200). The Professional and Ultimate varieties are also cheaper by about $40 each. With Windows 7 E now out of the picture (though seemingly still available for pre-order from the MS online store), it looks like Microsoft has chosen to match its lower price

MSFT pins hopes on Win Mobile 7 - late 2010
Microsoft seems scared, wooing iPhone developers to bring their WWDC-invented ideas to its Windows Mobile platform, while inventing a dual platform pitch to compete with Android and Apple.
Microsoft isn’t expected to introduce a fully updated version of Windows Mobile until next year, but will ship it the upgraded Windows Mobile 6.5 in October. But Windows Mobile partners won’t feel the magic touch - Microsoft won’t be enabling touch interfaces until a little later, in February 2010, reports Digitimes.

Die Firma Bare Bones, vor allem bekannt durch den mächtigen Texteditor "BBEdit" aus den Urzeiten des Macintosh, hatte bis gestern noch ein weiteres Programm im Portfolio, das auf dem Mac zu den Veteranen zählte: "Mailsmith", der E-Mail-Client mit zahlreichen Funktionen, die auch die Textverarbeitung aus dem gleichen Haus auszeichnet. Urteil: Versandhändler haftet bei irrtümlich falschen Preisangaben
Der Rechtsanwalt Clemens Bergfort aus Essen hat vor dem Amtsgericht Fürth gegen den Versandhändler Quelle in zwei Verfahren gewonnen (Aktenzeichen 310 C 2349/08 und 360 C 2779/08). In beiden Fällen ging es um einen mit 199,99 Euro statt 1999,99 Euro ausgezeichneten Flachbildschirm der Marke Philips. In beiden Fällen muss Quelle die Geräte zum niedrigeren Preis ausliefern. Die Urteile sind jedoch noch nicht rechtskräftig, das Versandhaus kann noch Berufung einlegen.

Apple accuses Psystar of destroying capital evidence
Even though we have spoken less about Psystar lately, the battle between this company and Apple continues nonetheless. Apple has returned to the attacks by accusing its protagonist of destroying capital evidence (CF documents). This evidence would be in fact the first hacked version of Mac OS X that they offered on the computers they sold and that has since been updated erasing this previous version.
However Apple had the evidence that this first version violated the famous DMCA law. Thus we set out again in a new battle in a war that is not yet finished.

Die IT-Marktforscher von Canalys haben die Smartphone-Marktanteile in verschiedenen Weltregionen für das zweite Quartal 2009 ermittelt und sind zu sehr unterschiedlichen Ergebnissen gekommen. Acer Veriton N260G nettop arrives, does not blow minds
Alright, we understand that Acer's new Veriton N260G Atom nettop is primarily aimed at businesses and comes with novel features like "OneButton Recovery" system restore and "eLock Management" for data security, but the pricing seems way out of line to us: the NVIDIA Ion-powered AspireRevo starts at $299, while the Veriton uses the far less powerful Intel GMA 4500MHD chip and costs $399. Boris FX Motion Tracker features Match Move tool
Boris FX has released its latest Final Cut plug-in package, Motion Tracker. The tools are geared for video editing effects involving movement. The included Corner Pin module allows users to add graphics and pin them to moving objects in the video. Snow Leopard GM not booting into 64-bit mode automatically, fix here
For those of you running Snow Leopard on newer Macs, you might be disapointed to know that you are probably running in 32-bit mode. I have a brand new MacBook Pro and am running 32-bit. I'd wager that some of you are too. The problem is that no matter what hardware you are running, Apple puts you into 32 bit mode (Except Xserves).
Would you like to see what it is like to run in the 64-Bit world? First make sure you have the right hardware for the job. Apple will only let you run 64-bit if you have a 64-bit firmware. Here's a list from the Snow Leopard release notes:

Another company producing yet more products that take advantage of Windows 7's much-vaunted touch capabilities? Amazing but true, at least according to DigiTimes, which is reporting that Acer is set to launch no less than three "touch-enabled products" loaded with Windows 7. Sony sneaks PS3 Slim through FCC under pseudonym, 250GB model discovered
Shenanigans were afoot in Sony's efforts to throw bloggers (such as yours truly) off the scent of the just-announced PS3 Slim in the FCC, and we've got to give them credit -- filing the thing as a "Computer Entertainment System" manufactured by "Sand Dollar Enterprise, Inc." managed to do the trick.
