Analyst: Palm Pre sales down, Eos in 2010

Get ready for another big security glitch in iPhone OS 3.0: it seems like the Spotlight search cache doesn't sync message status with the mail client, so you can still pull up old messages with Spotlight if you know the subject line. Early NPD numbers point to Mac growth, iPod decline
Mac sales should do well in Apple's fourth financial quarter, says Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster. Based on July NPD numbers, which grew 2 percent year-over-year, Munster forecasts that Mac sales will grow 3 to 7 percent during the September quarter as a whole. I hate mine, I bet you hate yours, too - I'm talking about my TV remote control. It’s rubbish, complex and clunky and takes an age to navigate to what I want it to do. TomTom is available for the iPod touch with the car kit
As I pointed out last month, the TomTom kit has a GPS unit on it and therefore could turn a garden variety iPod touch into a TomTom. Today we learn it has.

Apple's new data center in North Carolina is amongst the biggest being built in the world right now. At over 500,000 square feet it is bigger than both Microsoft and Google's latest data centers and five times its current data center in Newark California (109,000 sq. ft).

Latest HTC Leo render seemingly confirmed by leaked ROM
Remember those weird "Pro.Three"-branded Leo renders that leaked a few days ago? The ones that seemed improbable at best? Watch this weekend's opening of three new Apple stores here
It’s a Monday morning and while it looks like we covered most of the big news across the weekend, we came across these three videos each captured at the opening of one of three new Apple retail stores this last weekend.
Apple opened for business in three all-new North American locations last weekend, in Mississauga, Ont., Naperville, Ill., and Reston, Va.
Naturally, huge queues formed for each opening with the customary Apple opening T-shirts flying out the door.

Times Steve Jobs profile report raises Apple PR ire
Apple’s battle to keep the private life of the company’s incredibly secretive CEO continues, with The Times this morning publishing a profile of the rock-star CEO.
It seems Apple’s PR people attempted to prevent publication of this report, despite that it contains little that isn’t already widely known. TomTom-Routenplaner fürs iPhone ab sofort erhältlich
TomToms Navigationssoftware ist jetzt in einer Version für das iPhone 3G und 3GS erschienen. Die Anwendung kann über Apples App Store heruntergeladen werden und kostet mit Karten für Deutschland, Österreich und die Schweiz (DACH) rund 70 Euro. Es ist leicht nachzuvollziehen, warum sich Mobilfunknetz-Betreiber gegen Voice-over-IP stemmen. Googles Europa-Chef wehrt sich gegen Vorwürfe deutscher Verlage
Googles Europa-Chef Philipp Schindler hat die Vorwürfe deutscher Verlage zurückgewiesen, wonach der Suchmaschinenbetreiber durch Werbung Profit aus ihren Inhalten schlage. "Ich würde mich freuen, wenn die Verlage die Energie, die sie heute in die Angriffe gegen Google investieren, darauf verwenden würden, erfolgreichere Geschäftsmodelle im Netz zu entwickeln", sagte Schindler dem Nachrichten-Magazin "Der Spiegel".

Avcen Jetpod inventor killed in test flight crash
Here's a sobering reminder of the very real risks that people undertake in the name of science and progress. Michael Robert Dacre, the inventor and test pilot of the Jetpod flying taxi, has died in a crash during testing of his latest prototype. Reports from Malaysia indicate that the twin-engine aircraft went out of control shortly after takeoff before spiraling to the ground. O2 erlaubt VoIP-Nutzung im Mobilfunknetz
Ab sofort ist im Mobilfunknetz von O2 auch die Nutzung von VoIP-Diensten zugelassen. Dies gab das Unternehmen heute per Pressemeldung bekannt. Kunden mit einem der "Internet-Packs" können somit ihr Datenvolumen auch mit VoIP-Applikationen verbrauchen - dies war bislang im Kleingedruckten ausgeschlossen. Well think again brother, because scientists at Norfolk State University have now demonstrated a 44nm 'spaser' that performs a laser's functions by the alternative means of surface plasmons. Jailbreak auf fast jedem zehnten iPhone
Nach einer neuen Analyse sind 8.6% aller iPhones auf dem Markt einem Jailbreak unterzogen worden. Tendenz steigend.

Lenovo ersetzt einige Thinkpad-Akkus

Vodafone - HSDPA mit 14,4 MBit/s, HSUPA mit 3,0 MBit/s

Dell Mini 3i smartphone gets official outing in China
At last, the much rumored Dell cellphone has made its first appearance in China. The 3.5-inch 360 x 640 pixel device with capacitive touchscreen was on display in China running the Android-based Open Mobile System (OMS). The Mini 3i was on-hand as part of the launch of China Mobile's new Application Platform that offers music, video, and app downloads to mobile phones from Nokia, Samsung, LG, and apparently, Dell. Studie: 40 Prozent der Twitter-Kommunikation sind "sinnloses Geschwätz"
In einer aktuellen Studie (PDF) stuft Pear Analytics 40 Prozent der Twitter-Kommunikation als "sinnloses Geschwätz" ein. 37,6 Prozent aller Tweets sehen die Marktforscher immerhin als "Dialoge". 8,7 Prozent seien Hinweise auf Websites und Meldungen, die der jeweilige Twitter-Nutzer für interessant oder unterhaltsam hält und sie deshalb weiterleitet. In die Kategorie "News" fallen 3,6 Prozent, als "Spam" wurden 3,75 Prozent klassifiziert.

TomTom navigation for iPhone 3G and 3GS arrives
True, it's not the first app offering turn-by-turn driving instructions for the iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS -- but it is from TomTom, an industry heavy-weight that is finally delivering on years of rumor and speculation. After starting with New Zealand a few hours ago, the iTunes App Store is now populated with region specific TomTom apps for NZ ($95), Australia ($80), US and Canada ($100), and Western Europe ($140). If that sounds expensive it is; dedicated TomTom navigators start at $120. In other words, this isn't one of those knee-jerk 99 cent App Store purchases. TomTom iPhone app released on New Zealand App Store
The TomTom iPhone application has been made available from both the New Zealand and Australian App Stores, according to iPhoneclub. The app offers four separate maps for purchase: U.S. and Canada, Western Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Suzuki Neutron 701 MNI ultranetbook mounts a 7-inch touchscreen
Suzuki, huh? No, not that Suzuki. Singapore-based Suzuki Technology Private Limited calls itself a "value for money" brand, and has stuffed quite a bit of "value" into the Neutron 701 MNI. With basic netbook parts under the hood, and a rather exceptional complement of ports (ExpressCard and S/PDIF in a netbook? Yes, please!), the 701 really sets itself apart with its swivel tablet display. Sure, 7-inches isn't a lot of room to work with when you're touching Windows, but it's a nice "twist" at least. No word on price or availability.

Bevor das Apple Tablet die Gerüchteküche in Beschlag genommen hat, dominierte das iPhone nano die Phantasien von Analysten. Dabei ist spätestens seit dem Palm Pre klar: Wenn Apple ein Gerät mit kleinerem Display anbietet, würde es für die Software-Tastatur eng werden. Die leider nicht mehr weiter entwickelte virtuelle Tastatur Retype C zeigt, wie der Platz besser genutzt werden könnte - die Tasten sind sogar größer und nehmen trotzdem weniger Platz weg.

Mozy-Software nach Update wieder Time-Machine-kompatibel
Wer mit Mozy Online-Backups erstellen lässt und auch Time Machine nutzt, sollte unbedingt auf die Version 1.4.3 der Software für MozyHome und MozyPro aktualisieren. Ein Fehler in der Version 1.4.1 führte bei Benutzung von Time Machine oder Time Capsule+Time Machine zu Störungen, wenn das Netzwerk mit einem anderen Mac geteilt wurde. Dies konnte dazu führen, dass Time Machine nicht mehr reagiert.

Wales produces exceptionally graphic, educational film about the dangers of texting while driving
Alright, texting while driving? Obviously stupid -- but that doesn't stop tons and tons of people from doing it. The Gwent Police department in Wales hopes that its newest PSA film will help deter this bad behavior. In much the same spirit as the drunk driving on prom night films we ourselves had to sit thorough in high school, this film is pretty graphic. Facebook 3.0 zur App-Store-Prüfung eingereicht
Ein großes Update, aber Push-Benachrichtigungen wird es in der Version 3.0 der Facebook-Anwendung für das iPhone nicht geben. iPhone-Besitzer können sich trotzdem auf das Update freuen, denn sie bietet Zugriff auf Notizen, Seiten, Veranstaltungen (mit der Möglichkeit, die Teilnahme zu bestätigen) und kann Einträge als "Gefällt mir" markieren. Fotos lassen sich in jedes bestehende oder per iPhone hinzugefügte Album hochladen.

Das Verharren des Kartentricks Rising Card in der App-Store-Prüfung schlug auf iTricks.com und TUAW immerhin so hohe Wellen, dass Entwickler Chris Kenner eine E-Mail von Phil Schiller, Vizepräsident für das Marketing bei Apple, bekam. China Unicom denies having bought 5M iPhones
We'd still venture to say that all signs are pointing toward an iPhone launch on China Unicom before too long, but one key element of the launch -- Unicom's upfront buy -- is now in question.
