MLB Application is an...um...home run
You baseball fan/iPhone users won't be able to pass up on this one. MLB's iPhone application (iTunes Link) includes audio broadcasts for every game for the whole year. Not only that, it has video wrapup of games, play by play graphics and works over AT&T's network, not just Wifi. At $9.99 for the whole year, it seems like a bargain. (March Madness was $5.00)

Verizon MiFi 2200 EVDO hotspot leaks out, will sell like Canadian bananas
It's not quite as sexy as the brushed aluminum version we saw back in December, but these leaked images showing a Verizon-branded Novatel MiFi 2200 personal hotspot are certainly enough to get the blood pumping. If you don't recall the concept, the MiFi is a battery-powered EVDO router the size of a credit card that can provide network access over WiFi for up to four hours on a charge. There's still a lot of details up in the air here, like how many devices can connect at once and the max data rate, but if this thing comes in anywhere close to its estimated $200 price tag we'd say a lot of those answers might not matter. Microsoft drops $99 app update submissions
Microsoft today said it would abandon a controversial plan for its upcoming Windows Mobile Marketplace that would charge $99 for each app update past the initial five handled by its year-long developer subscriptions. Microsoft and TomTom settle Linux patent suit, Linux not necessarily in the clear
Well, that was -- just a month after Microsoft set the open-source world on fire by claiming that TomTom's use of Linux violated its FAT filesystem patents, the two companies have settled, with TomTom paying the always-popular "undisclosed amount" and letting MS license four of its navigation patents for free. What's more, TomTom has also agreed to remove certain functionality from its PNDs within two years. That's huge -- not only did TomTom's attorneys calculate that the total cost of this settlement was less than the cost of a trial and a potential loss, the overwhelmingly one-way nature of the deal implies that they felt they were holding a bad position. Sony: 'no plans' for a PS3 price cut
That PlayStation 3 price drop rumored to be coming tomorrow? Not happening, according to Sony. In a statement given to Joystiq, SCEA public relations manager Al De Leon says, "we do not have plans for a PS3 price drop, and any rumors to that effect are false and are the result of speculation." Although we wouldn't put it past the company to deny it up until the second before an official announcement, we seriously doubt Sony would announce any sort of price cut on the day it's most likely to get drowned out by fake PSP2 mockups. No low-cost iPhone coming in June, says RBC
In spite of continual suggestions to the contrary, a low-cost version of the iPhone appears unlikely to be announced this June, says RBC Capital analyst Mike Abramsky. Ricoh develops brighter, lighter, color e-paper
It's been a few minutes since we've heard any news regarding color e-paper, and now Ricoh has announced that they've taken a tip from their copier business to create a technology that displays hues fifty percent brighter than those currently available, retaining the graphics even when power is turned off. Unlike other technologies, which use layers of red, green, and blue light separated by sheets of glass, this new iteration uses layered electrochromic compounds that turn cyan, magenta, and yellow variously when electricity is applied -- and if that weren't enough, the company's gone and altered the molecular structure of the compounds to retain their color even when electricity is removed. When Apple updated Mail with a built-in junk management system, it was touted as being one of the best around because of its capability to learn and adapt to different types of spam. Canon PowerShot SX200 IS reviewed, deemed pretty decent
Photography Blog's just put up a rather exhaustive review of Canon's PowerShot SX200 IS. If you've already forgotten, this little guy boasts a 12 megapixel sensor, a 12x optical zoom, and a 3-inch LCD. They found that one of the standout features of the cam is its PASM creative shooting modes, and its versatile 12x zoom lens. Drawbacks for the camera include its video mode, LCD (which is a lower resolution than some rivals), and a Smart Auto Mode that leaves a little to be desired. Macworld 2010 erst im Februar

Windows 7 Starter Edition to pave the way for $200 netbooks?
Microsoft still hasn't nailed down all the specifics about its much talked about Windows 7 Starter Edition, but it looks like the company is all too happy to talk up a few of the potential side effects of the OS variant, including the promise of some actual $200 netbooks by this coming holiday season. It's a pretty sketchy rumor, but we're hearing that Canon's working on a pro video camera based on a 12.1 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor similar to the one in the Rebel XSi. Gibberish displayed during typing
Several users have experienced issues regarding input from their keyboards appearing onscreen as gibberish, or symbol language. Users find it difficult to repair the issue because they're unable to enter their passwords properly. Other symptoms may include a total keyboard lock. Skype for iPhone goes live in Japan
When they said "Tuesday," they meant it. Not long ago, the clock struck midnight in the Land of the Rising Sun, and sure enough, the bona fide Skype application (v1.0.0.63) for Apple's iPhone has gone live. It's absolutely free to download, but early reports from Japan haven't been totally awesome. As the Tesla Model S has amply demonstrated, while in-car touchscreens can certainly turn a few heads, they aren't always the safest, or most practical solution. The rumors were true, Skype indeed will be landing on the iPhone this week. CNet got a preview of the app and likes what they see.
As expected, calls can only be made over Wifi. AT&T is simply too afraid of VOIP taking over their voice business (which it will anyway). We look forward to the day when the mobile carriers are competing to sell us packets fast and cheapbut back to Skype on iPhone.

It's legit; Skype is coming to the iPhone on Tuesday, BlackBerry devices in May. While we've seen plenty of Skype-capable apps on the iPhone, the poor, often echo-infected calls should be easily bested by the official Skype App that doesn't need the extra audio transcoding workaround required by the existing crop of unofficial apps. The Skype app works over WiFi only (not over EDGE or 3G data) and supports calls to SkypeOut contacts in addition to many of the other features you've used from the desktop client. iPod touch owners will require earphones with an embedded mic to talk. Apple-Logo 1977: Designer Janoff machte es für lau
1977 baute Designer Rob Janoff ein Logo: ein bunter, angebissener Apfel zierte seitdem Apple-Produkte. Einfarbig sollte es zunächst sein, ein gewisser Steve Jobs setzte sich mit der Forderung nach einem “menschlicheren” und daher farbigen Logo trotz der höheren Kosten durch. Dresdner Qimonda-Mitarbeiter wechseln in Auffanggesellschaft
Insgesamt 93 Prozent der noch verbliebenen 2200 Qimonda-Mitarbeiter am Standort Dresden haben sich vergangenen Freitag für die geplante Transfergesellschaft entschieden. Das lange Warten auf Skype für das iPhone hat bald ein Ende: Schon am morgigen Dienstag soll die App für das iPhone im iTunes Store erscheinen. Apple bringt "MacPro" vor Gericht

It didn't quite make it out in January, but Foxit's eSlick is still about the cheapest way to get an e-reader in front of your retinas. Granted, only the earliest of pre-orderers are seeing their units ship, and if you try to jump in now, you'll be greeted with a note to not expect it for another fortnight or so. Intel bringt stromsparende Mobilprozessoren
Intel hat neue stromsparende Mobilprozessoren angekündigt, die für ultraportable Notebooks im Stil des MacBook Air entwickelt wurden. Der Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile SP9600 verfügt über einen Frontsidebus von 1066 MHz, 6 MByte Cache und eine Taktfrequenz von 2,53 GHz. Die Leistungsaufnahme gibt der Hersteller mit 25 Watt TDP an. Mit 17 Watt TDP verbraucht der SL9600 etwas weniger Energie, ist dafür aber auch 400 MHz langsamer als der SP9600. Beide Prozessoren kosten 316 Dollar.

Skype for iPhone, it is official
The rumors were true, Skype indeed will be landing on the iPhone this week. CNet got a preview of the app and likes what they see.
As expected, calls can only be made over Wifi. AT&T is simply afraid of VOIP taking over their voice business (which it will anyway).

Sony Stops Development of FED Technology
This is not a secret for anybody that Sony is experiencing a rather difficult period in its businesses. According to Engadget, the Field Emission Display (FED) technologies will be the target a new victim of the current economical crisis.
The company decided to stop its development due to its inability to get the financial resources required to built the manufacturing plant for such FED-based TV or monitors. If the image quality was definitely better than the current LCD technologies, such panel would have cost much more, a rather difficult marketing parameters in such economical conditions.

Two Legal Actions against Apple in Australia
Apple is currently facing two legal actions in Australia:
The first one is linked to the Mac Pro trademark. Apple filed a worldwide trademark protection for naming its Pro desktop hardware. However, a company is also using this name as for its business activity: Macpro Computers since 1983, however it did not filed it as a trademark at that time, but it is intending to do it now. So, the local justice will have to decide which companies holds the right for the Mac Pro trademark in Australia.
The second one is related to a story originating from 2005 and the business death of an Australian Mac reseller, Buzzle. The legal officer dealing with the bankruptcy process reported that Apple kept shipping hardware to Buzzle whereas its business life was already so damaged that it was almost impossible to save it. 30-inch Cinema Display problems: black screens, brightness stuck
When the 30-inch Cinema Displays were first released, some users reported pixel distortion, i.e. the screen seemed to sparkle or have patches of "dancing" pixels. In addition, some displays had dark bands or half the screen was dimmer than the rest. This turned out to be usually caused by the backlights warming up.
Currently, there are a couple of issues with these displays that have developed over time. One of these is the screen getting stuck at full brightness, with none of the controls apparently being able to change the brightness levels.
