HP Mini 1000 six-cell battery now available to order, for real
You may still not be able to get that VGA adapter, but it looks like HP Mini 1000 users can now finally get their hands on the six-cell battery for the netbook, which should provide a significant boost over the stock three-cell battery. As you may recall, this follows a brief spat of seeming availability in January but, judging from some of the responses on the HP Mini forums, it looks like HP has since canceled the few orders that got through before the bat

Issue: Web browser cannot access common web sites
Description: At times you might run into problems with your Internet browsing running slowly, with sites timing out or only loading halfway. Many times this has to do with a browser-specific problem, and the things to do initially if these problems are encountered are to: empty the cache, delete the history, remove the preference file for the browser, and if all else fails, reset the browser. For Safari this can be done with the "Reset Safari" option in the "Safari" menu.

Das “Flickr-für-den-Desktop-Tool” Flickery hatten wir euch schon während der Beta-Phase ausführlich vorgestellt, gerade eben hat Entwickler Matthias Gansriegler nun die Version 1.0 veröffentlicht. Im Vergleich zur Beta fühlt sich das Programm noch mal einen Tick schneller an, außerdem gibt es nun die angekündigte Unterstützung für Flickr-Gruppen.
Wir meinen: Für regelmäßige Flickr-Nutzer definitiv einen Blick wert.

BMO predicts slowing Apple sales, $105 shares
BMO analyst Keith Bachman has trimmed the firm's Apple earnings forecast, based on weak demand for Macs and iPhones compared to previous estimates. Toshiba Camileo S10 pocketcam: the $200 1080p Flip-killer?
It's been a while since we first caught wind of the mysterious Toshiba Camileo S10, but the pocket camcorder has finally broken loose, and it's looking like a pretty solid competitor to the Flip Mino HD and the Kodak Zi6 -- it amps up the video resolution to 1080p and also takes five megapixel stills. Amazon using DMCA to restrict Kindle content sources

AgfaPhoto announces "world's first" HD photo frames
The "world's first" claim may be a tad on the dubious side, but AgfaPhoto's new 10-inch AF5105MS and 13-inch AF5135MS HD photo frames certainly seem to deliver where it counts, with each packing a 1,280 x 800 resolution and all the usual multimedia-related features you'd expect from a high-res frame. At just 22mm thick, they're also pretty slim by photo frame standards and, in addition to being available in black or white, they each come with a set of interchangeable frames to suit your decor. iPresentee has released Keynote 3D Stuff 2.0, an updated package of 3D images meant for Appleís Keynote, iWeb and Pages. Toshiba's ApriAttenda makes for one cute kill-bot
As you're no doubt aware, it's the cute ones that can cause the most trouble. For instance, consider Toshiba's newest: ApriAttenda, pictured here at a press event at the company's lab in Kasawaki, Kanagawa prefecture, suburban Tokyo, is one meter tall, has three fingers and small CCD cameras in the palm of each hand, and can rise an additional 0.3 meters if the need should present itself. Sure, the device's ability to open refrigerator doors and lift boxes is impressive, but can we realistically believe that things will end there? Caustic Graphics develops ray tracing at gaming speeds
The ray-tracing technique for generating 3D images is an extremely processor-intensive proposition that doesn't lend itself to gaming (or real-time anything, for that matter), but all of that may be about to change. Caustic Graphics, a San Francisco-based start-up founded by former Apple employee James McCombe, claims that its dedicated ray tracing card will produce photorealistic graphics at a rate 20 times faster than products currently available. And if that weren't enough, their new CausticRT platform has the potential to perform the operations a whopping 200 times faster -- possibly fast enough for a photorealistic gaming platform. With the promising intro of "when a shuffle kisses a Mac" we were hoping for something a bit more exciting, but we suppose Dexim's new Shu-Lip will have to do. In completely straightforward and boring fashion, the Shu-Lip is designed to plug into the end of the new iPod shuffle and transform it from miniscule DAP to completely run-of-the-mill thumb drive, replacing that clunky audio-jack-to-USB dongle that the shuffle comes with. iriver's Dicple D35 and D31 remind us of just how much we'll never understand
For a company that pretty much just makes PMPs, iriver manages to pull off an incredible quantity of surprising product moves and design choices. Its new Dicple D35 and D31, for instance, square off any of the sexiness and sleekitude of previous iterations, like 2007's D5. The devices seem to be getting inexplicably thicker, the screen bezel has become more prominent, and iriver just doesn't seem to care. However, the software has certainly come a long way from those electronic dictionary days, with widgets, advanced multimedia features (like DMB and radio recording), handwriting recognition and PIM functions -- all of which we have little idea as to the functionality, since the spec list is in Korean, and we don't imagine iriver plans on ship

MSI's never been a slouch when it comes to its Wind series, but this new U115 seems to be something else entirely. In tests done by the folks at Eee-PC.de, the laptop ranged from 5.5 hours to 15 hours of battery life, based on level of usage. Nächster Apple Store in Frankfurt
Nach München und der Bestätigung für Hamburg sieht es ganz danach aus, als bekomme Frankfurt den dritten deutschen Apple Store. Zumindest das dortige Stadtplanungsamt ist sich dessen sicher (Frankfurter Rundschau), als Standort wurde die bekannte, Freßgass genannte Einkaufsmeile Große Bockenheimer Straße. Dort werden wie der Name schon sagt bislang eher Lebensmittel und Delikatessen angeboten, daher hoffen wir, dass Apple nicht auch in Frankfurt für einen Obsthändler gehalten wird.

iPod shuffle 3G: Ohrhörer-Alternativen und Adapter
Die Tatsache, dass der iPod shuffle in der dritten Generation nur noch über einen im Ohrhörerkabel integrierten Schalter bedient werden kann, hat bereits bevor der neue iPod überhaupt ausgeliefert wird allerlei Unruhe gesorgt: Man können keinen eigenen Ohrhörer anschließen und den iPod ja wenn man die Ohrhörer verliert nicht einmal mehr bedienen.
Fragt sich nur, warum man einen iPod ohne Ohrhörer überhaupt bedienen will. Das Argument mit den eigenen Ohrhörern zieht da eher, auch wenn nahezu alle Shuffle-Besitzer die wir kennen die von Apple mitgelieferten weißen Original-Ohrhörer benutzen.
Dennoch: Die Rettung für alle, die partout einen anderen Ohrhörer verwenden wollen, naht in Form eines Adapters des US-Zubehörspezialisten Scosche. Über den Preis für das kurze Kabelstück mit eingearbeitetem Minischalter gibt es bislang noch keine Angaben, ebenso lässt uns der Hersteller über die genauen Preise für die drei von ihm angekündigten Alternativen

iTunes 8.1: Vorab angekündigte Features fehlen
Zur Freude aller Apple- und Musik-Fans beinhaltete das in dieser Woche veröffentlichte Update auf iTunes 8.1 nebn Pflicht auch sehr viel Kür. Apple fügte mit der Aktualisierung auch einige Funktionen hinzu, die nicht nur für das neue iPod-shuffle-Modell erforderlich waren. Nur wenige Stunden später leider die Ernüchterung: So schnell das Update erschien, so zügig entfernte Apple auch einige der Neuerungen. BIU wehrt sich gegen Verschärfung des Jugendschutzes bei Computerspielen
Der Bundesverband Interaktive Unterhaltungssoftware e. V. (BIU) wendet sich gegen die nach der nach dem Amoklauf an der Schule in Winnenden erhobenen Forderungen der CDU-CSU-Bundestagsfraktion nach einer Verschärfung des Jugendschutzes und strengeren Regelungen für das Zustandekommen der Alterskennzeichnungen. Diese Maßnahmen seien "vollkommen unangemessen und nicht zielführend". Der BIU hält die bestehenden gesetzlichen Regelungen für ausreichend. Seiner Ansicht nach sei lediglich der Vollzug bestehender Gesetze zu verbessern, um eine altersgerechte Abgabe von Computer- und Videospielen an Kinder und Jugendliche zu gewährleisten.

iPhone OS 3.0: Kommen MMS, Push und Tethering mit der neuen Software?
Der Termin für das Special Event zum iPhone OS 3.0 ist seit gestern abend bekannt.
Erwartet und erhofft wird die Ankündigung von Funktionen wie Tethering und MMS.
Aus nicht näher genannten Quellen sollen exakt diese Funktionen bestätigt worden sein. Die MMS-Funktionalität wurde von Apple bisher nicht aktiviert, über Zusatzprogramme lassen sich MMS derzeit allerdings verschicken.

Die AOL-Mutter Time Warner hat mit sofortiger Wirkung den Google-Manager Tim Armstrong zum neuen Verwaltungsratsvorsitzenden und Chief Executive Officer von AOL berufen. Weiterer Build von Mac OS X 10.5.7 an Entwickler verteilt
Apple hat innerhalb einer Woche nun bereits einen zweiten Build von Mac OS X 10.5.7 an Entwickler verteilt. Build 9J30 soll in den Bereichen Flash Player, iCal, USB-Flash-Medien, und Widgets gegenüber Build 9J27 Verbesserungen aufweisen, so dass diese Bereiche besonders intensiv von den Entwicklern getestet werden sollten. Ein bekanntes Problem ist die Inkompatibilität mit der Public Beta von Safari 4, welches sich nur unter Mac OS X 10.

iPod shuffle 3G seziert
Bekannterweise wird von den Betreibern der Internetseite ifixit sämtliche neue Apple-Hardware sofort zerlegt und seziert, und so ist es nun auch um den neuen iPod shuffle geschehen. Bevor jedoch das gute Stück auseinandergenommen wurde, haben ifixit noch einen kurzen Test gewagt. Festgestellt wurde dabei, dass Kompatibilität nicht gerade die starke Seite des shuffle ist. So funktioniert weder das USB-auf-Miniklinken-Kabel des neuen shuffle mit einem Modell der zweiten Generation, noch kann der shuffle am Dock des Vorgängers geladen werden.

BBC kauft Botnetz mit 22.000 Computern
Der britische Fernsehsender BBC hat für eine Reportage ein Botnetz mit 22.000 Computern sowie die zugehörige Kontrollsoftware gekauft. Mit dem Botnetz verschickte die BBC tausende Spam-Nachrichten an zwei eigens für diese Zwecke eingerichtete E-Mail-Konten. Regular readers, you know the drill: interesting product introduced, product splayed wide for nerdgasm pulp. iFixIt has the honors again, this time aiming its Xacto at the new iPod shuffle. After the usual struggle to open Apple's un-serviceable (by consumers) gear, iFixIt notes that the functioning parts of the 3rd gen shuffle weight only 10% more than single sheet of letter-sized paper. Wenn es um Millimeter geht, kennt Apple kein Pardon und dann kann schon mal eine FireWire-Schnittstelle wegfallen oder die Wiedergabesteuerung auf Reisen gehen. Ohne Frage ist die Entscheidung, die Wiedergabesteuerung mit doppel- und dreifach Klicks am Kopfhörer unterzubringen, eine kontroverse - aber ein Adapter ist schon in Sicht, wenn auch nicht von Apple.

Sony France boss held hostage by disgruntled workers
The American Foreign Press is reporting that Serge Foucher, president of Sony France, is being held "hostage" by angry workers whose plant is about to close. "He won't listen to us, we didn't find any other solution," said the union spokesman. Foucher had come to the video tape manufacturing plant at Pontonx-sur-l'Adour in southwest France to meet with the 311 workers one more time before the plant's closure. Unhappy with the the compensation offered, the workers barricaded the entry with tree trunks late Thursday night. Look, times are tough, but let's be civil, ok? Nurian X40Kris e-dictionary is an OS away from a UMPC
On one hand, we're pretty impressed that someone would actually bother to produce an e-dictionary this fancy. On the other, we're disheartened that those very "someones" didn't just throw a real-deal OS on here and call it a UMPC. Hannuri Biz's newest premium pocket dictionary goes by Nurian X40Kris and features a 4.3-inch LCD, QWERTY keyboard, 4GB of internal storage, 79 different dictionaries (saywha?) and support for XviD, PDF, Flash, JPEG and MP3 files. We're told that it'll be offered up in South Korea for ₩379,000 ($253), and we're giving it around a fortnight before someone shoves a TV tuner and their favorite flavor of Linux on here and calls it a day.

Google sets up Android support team in Taiwan
There's not exactly a lot of details on this one just yet, but Google has now confirmed that it's establishing an Android team in Taiwan that will be charged with supporting various hardware makers developing Android-based products.
