EETI to purportedly ship 7- and 12-inch capacitive touchscreens this year
It doesn't take much to make us happy -- in fact, just mention the word "capacitive" and you're already halfway to winning us over. Throw in "multitouch," and you've got us hook, line and sinker. According to an admittedly dodgy DigiTimes report, Taiwan's own EETI is gearing up to ship laptop-grade 7- and 12-inch capacitive touch panels in the the latter half of this year, and if you're to believe it, that's word straight from company president Mei Tsai. EETI has already begun shipping smaller capacitive touch panels, so larger ones for use in netbooks and ultraportables is just a logical extension of the business. Acer planning mildly tweaked Aspire One netbook?
We snooped around pretty heavily at Acer's CeBIT booth here in Hannover, but we definitely didn't see a single Aspire One with a port layout like this. That said, we wouldn't put it past the company to push out an oh-so-barely different version of the Aspire One netbook that has already proven remarkably popular. macles* has it that Acer is planning to release a slightly revamped version, possibly dubbed the D250, that'll sport a new motherboard, port layout and a larger hard drive. Solestrom's new nano-bikini doesn't hold water
Last year the brain trust in Zurich announced their high-tech leisure suit that never gets wet, and now Solestrom International (the UV-detecting bikini company) has announced its own water-repellent nano-material. Called Sun Dry, each fiber of the new fabric is surrounded by an invisible barrier that allows water to pass through it rather than being absorbed into it. Former Apple employees start Apperian
Former Director of Field Engineering and Professional Services at Apple, Chuck Goldman, and some former Apple and Motorola employees have started a business that focuses on building mobile apps for Enterprise. This field, which is blowing up at the moment, is ripe for exploration by smaller companies because the bigger consulting firms have little to no experience with Mobile Application development, especially on a platform like the iPhone.
Speculation is that Apple may be an investor.

Apple gegen Psystar: Es nimmt kein Ende
Die Auseinandersetzung zwischen Apple und dem Hersteller von geklonten Macs geht weiter: Nachdem Psystar im Januar noch behauptet hatte, Apple verstoße gegen das Kopierschutzrecht, hat Apple im Gegenzug nun eine neue Klage eingereicht, in der es auf 13 Seiten nicht nur die Vorwürfe zu widerlegen sucht, sondern auch Psystar vorwirft, gegen den "Digital Millennium Copyright Act" (DMCA) zu verstoßen.

Update: Skat für iPod touch und iPhone
Das hier vorgestellte Spiel Skat für iPod touch und iPhone hat seit dem Verkaufsstart breits zwei Updates mit verschiedenen Verbesserungen erhalten:
- Man kann statt der Mäuse nun eigene Fotos hinterlegen
- Kneipenregeln für Kontra, Re Bock und Ramsch können eingestellt werden
- Man kann nun auch auf Schneider reizen
Allerdings hat sich inzwischen auch der Verkaufspreis auf 3,99 Euro erhöht, frühe Käufer konnten im Vergleich dazu noch einen Euro sparen. Dennoch: für Skatfreunde ist das Spiel auch zum neuen Preis noch eine spaßbringende und - zumindest nach unserem Empfinden keineswegs überteuerte Investition.

WWDC 2009 vom 6.-12. Juni?
Die Baltimore Sun weist darauf hin, dass im Veranstaltunskalender des Moscone Kongresszentrums in San Francisco für den 6.-12. Juni noch eine Lücke klafft. In den letzten beiden Jahren fand die WWDC jeweils in der zweiten Juni-Woche statt, das Datum erscheint also sehr plausibel. Ein offizielles Statement dürfte in den nächsten zwei Wochen folgen -

Sigma DP2 finally takes some pictures, doesn't disappoint
Sigma has been doling out bits and pieces of information about its new DP2 camera since last fall, but it's just now letting folks use it to actually take some pictures and, judging from LetsGoDigital's results, it doesn't look to disappoint. Of course, the camera is still in pre-production form, but LetsGoDigital certainly seems to be plenty impressed with its abilities so far, with the "Super Multi-Layer Coating" on the lens helping to reduce lens flare, while the 41mm f/2.8 lens and 14-megapixel FOVEON X3 image sensor combine to deliver some great depth of field. IE8 in Windows 7 deaktivierbar (Update)
Offenbar verfolgt Microsoft derzeit den Plan, den Internet Explorer 8 in Windows 7 deaktivieren zu können. Zumindest mit der aktuellen Version Windows 7 Build 7048 ist es möglich, in der frei verfügbaren Beta 1 konnte man den Browser noch nicht entfernen.

Pixavi announces wireless Xcaster ST 5000 video conferencing camera
Video conferencing cameras generally aren't the most exciting devices out there, but Pixavi certainly looks to be a decent job of standing out from the pack with its new Xcaster ST 5000 camera, which packs some built-in WiFi (802.11n, no less) and about as catch-all a feature set as most anyone could ask for. GE's G3WP waterproof point-and-shoot snoozefest
Of all the 12.2 megapixel cameras we've seen from General Imaging this week, this is certainly one of them. But that ain't all -- it's waterproof up to 10 feet! Pretty awesome, right? The G3 WP fits in nicely with the rest of the new GE-branded lineup, including 4x optical zoom, auto scene detection, and pan-capture panorama. This guy sports a 2.7-inch LCD and ambient light sensor, with no word yet on price or availability. And to its credit, it does look more like a camera than our other waterproof offering this week. Intel develops multi-computer display linking, the commercial writes itself
We can see it now: the four former members of 'N Sync (minus Justin Timberlake) showing up in an HP-inspired television spot, their heads cut off from the frame while they individually sing about what how each of their MIDs knows them personally and proceed to show what they can do in a array of spectacle and CG. Suddenly, they all hold their devices next to each other in a two-by-two grid pattern and the four screens become one as their voices, too, join in harmony -- which is exactly what Intel touts its newly-developed multi-client display linking can do. The two have reached a tentative agreement for the around 20,000 unionized workers that have been in contract negotations. For its part, AT&T's expressed satisfaction with the agreement, but it still has to be submitted for approval by ratification vote from the CWA group members. Laptop battery optimization and maintenance
Description: Apple laptops ship with well-engineered battery systems that are advertised as providing some of the longest runtimes when compared with portable computers with similar specifications. Despite this, while some people are able to get times similar to those advertised by Apple, others are frustrated with their experiences of these runtimes being truncated by at least an hour from the advertised times, even on brand-new machines. This is mainly due to a difference in Apple's testing conditions versus the way an average user will run the laptop. It's best to consider the advertised battery times as being at the very high end of what's achievable, since in Apple's tests the environmental and computing conditions are optimal, and the batteries are fresh.

Samsung NX Series camera gets the hands-off treatment

Hulu blocks boxee browser entirely, gloves get ripped halfway off

BMW designs PC case for Thermaltake
This new case for the fashion-forward PC gamer was dreamt up by the design wizards at BMW's Designworks USA. Instead of throwing all the components in what essentially amounts to one big box (like practically every other case), Thermaltake's Level 10 sees all the machine's components -- mobo, hard drives, optical drives, and so forth -- seated in their own compartments. Constructed mainly from aluminum, this guy will make its official debut at Computex in early June.
