Intel exec claims Atom-based Apple tablet
Intel Germany chief Hannes Schwaderer today claimed at a Munich company event that Apple is developing a touchscreen device based on his firm's new Atom processor for ultra-mobile devices. HTC forecasts over 2m Touch Diamond sales

Munk Bogballe turns MacBook into luxury "Workstation"

It's far from the first to turn a standard issue Mac laptop into entirely different, but Munk Bogballe has gone a bit further than most with its new Workstation laptop, which turns an otherwise modest MacBook into a full-fledged slab of excess. Sony meldet Rekordgewinn von 3,694 Milliarden Dollar

Im Rahmen eines Intel-Events zum 40. Geburtstag der Halbleiterfirma in der Münchner BMW-Welt hat Deutschland-Geschäftsführer Hannes Schwaderer heute bestätigt, was schon seit einiger Zeit als Gerücht im Internet kursiert: nämlich, dass es ein iPhone mit Intels neuem Atom-Chip geben wird. Swisscom Officially Announced the iPhone in Switzerland
The Swiss Mac website www.macprime.ch, and some of our readers, reports that Swisscom officially announced the future launch of the iPhone in Switzerland:
As shown on the screenshot, there is no official date yet, but one can register to get personally informed.
However, there are currently 45,000 iPhones being used on Swiss carriers' networks, 25,000 belong to Swisscom customers, while 10,000 are from Orange's subscribers and 7,000 from Sunrise accounts.
So, if the iPhone is not officially available in Switzerland, those figures indicate clearly that iPhone fans and users did not wait for Apple to react and change its business plan to make this mobile phone available in more countries than the 4 official ones: USA, UK, Germany and France.

O2 meldet leichtes Umsatzplus im ersten Quartal
O2 Deutschland hat im abgelaufenen ersten Geschäftsquartal 2008 (bis 31. März) erstmals seit einem Jahr wieder einen steigenden Umsatz verzeichnet. O2 gewinnt Neukunden durch Billigmarken hinzu
Der Mobilfunkbetreiber O2 Germany hat im ersten Quartal 2008 rund 536.000 Neukunden gewonnen. Damit hat die deutsche Landestochter der spanischen Telefónica mehr als 13 Millionen Kunden. "Zum Kundenwachstum tragen insbesondere auch unsere Partner Alice Mobile, Fonic und Tchibo bei. Opinion: iPhone shortage, deliberately designed
iPhone is out of stock across Apple. There’s also limited availability in the UK where only the 16GB model is intermittently available from O2 - and this isn’t an inventory problem, but deliberate execution.
I’m not saying I know this for sure, but it makes sense that with a new model iPhone on the way, Apple is clearing its supply chain to make way for the device. But its a deeper strategy. I suspect (personal opinion, speculation, alert) Apple management have deliberately decided to make the device more or less unavailable in the weeks preceeding the release of the new model.
This makes sense for two reasons:
First, Apple is stimulating demand for the new device when it ships by making it hard to get hold of the current edition. That move should help ensure “stellar sales” of iPh

O2: 3G iPhone 'in weeks'
O2 boss Matthew Key says the 3G iPhone will be unveiled “in the coming weeks”.
Key made the comment when speaking to press and analysts after the announcement of the network’s first-quarter results this morning. He’s the Chairman and Chief Exec of O2 owner, Telefónica Europe, and he said his company would be making an announcement with Apple in the “coming weeks”.
Key declined to say exactly when the announcement would take place, saying, “that’s more of a question for Apple,” while promising a joint announcement. He also confirmed the network to hold a multi-year exclusive agreement with Apple for selling the iPhone in the UK and Ireland.
While O2 declined comment on how many iPhones have been sold so far, the network did add 206,000 new contract customers in

Oops, looks like the Wall Street Journal was getting a bit of ahead of itself calling for the end of Dell's XPS lineup. While Dell will definitely "invest like crazy" in its Alienware brand, XPS systems and indeed, XPS gaming systems "will remain an important part of our gaming product portfolio." There won't be an early phase-out of the XPS brand as reported by the WSJ. So there you have it, Dell XPS, resurrected after just one day in the tomb. Michael Dell truly is a savior.

iTunes-Anwender wissen es in der Regel: Die Lautstärkeanpassung des Programms funktioniert nicht gerade optimal. Kabel Deutschland sperrt Schwarzseher aus

Swisscom confirms iPhone launch plan
Swisscom has officially confirmed it plans to introduce the iPhone in Switzerland.
There’s been a deal of speculation claiming the network will offer the Apple device in the country, and this has now been confirmed with Swisscom’s publication of an iPhone page on its website.
The page is lean of further information, of course, simply asking Swiss customers to drop an email into the firm in order to register their interest in the device.

25 Jahre alter Unix-Fehler behoben
OpenBSD-Entwickler Marc Balmer hat einen Fehler im Betriebssystem, der bereits seit 1983 besteht, behoben. Source : DigitimesIt isn't a secret for anybody; AMD is in a very bad shape and loses money quarter after quarter. Currently there is much talk about a major reorganization of the company which could be divided into several entities, separating the R&D division from the production.
AMD may have indeed decided to delegate part of the production of its products to TSMC, one of the two large make-to-order chipmakers. Such a step is underlines the crisis. AMD has many problems to produce chips in 45nm and should devote to it still more money, and we do not speak about the 32 nm.
However, TSMC, where manufacturing is the core activity, invests considerable sums to improve its manufacturing processes. On the short term, AMD could thus leave the red, especially as they benefit from by reselling some CPU manufacturing plants which they will no longer need.

SSD disks for portables the fastest in the world ?
Source : Engadget Greenhouse has announced new SSD disks for portables that they describe as the fastest in the industry.
Proposed with the format 2,5" and 9,5 mm height with the standard SATA interface (they can thus be fitted in the MacBook and MacBook Pro), they will be sold in capacities going from 16 to 64 GB with (faster) SLC memory and from 16 to 128 GB with MLC memory.
The data flow with SLC will be of 130 MB/s for reading and 67 MB/s for writing. The read speed with MLC remains excellent, however the write speed is quite slow, at 20 MB/s.
But of course, their claims regarding speed relates here only to the read speed

iPod-Akkutausch: Ersatzakkus in allen Preisklassen
Auf kurz oder lang gibt jeder Akku seinen Geist auf, oder lässt leistungsmäßig zumindest so stark nach, dass man sich nach unverbrauchtem Ersatz sehnt. Bis es soweit ist dauert es meist ein wenig, von daher boomt derzeit vor allem der Markt mit Ersatzakkus für die ersten 4 iPod-Generationen.
Apple selbst bietet natürlich Ersatz für alle Modelle an und tauscht die Leistungsspender - zumindest solange sich auf dem Gerät noch Garantie befindet (im ersten Jahr nach Kaufdatum) - eigentlich auch problemlos aus. Garantieanspruch meldet man bei Apple am besten über den Online-Service-Assistent an.

Electronic Arts mit neuem Rekord-Umsatz
Der weltgrößte Spieleproduzent Electronic Arts (EA) konnte im letzten Geschäftsjahr, das am 31. März 2008 beendet wurde, den Umsatz kräftig steigern - rutschte aber wegen Zukäufen und Investitionen in die Entwicklung neuer Titel in die roten Zahlen. Bereinigt um solche Sonderfaktoren hat EA einen operativen Gewinn von 339 Millionen Dollar gemacht.

In aller Welt versuchen Gesundheitspolitiker Jugendliche von den schädlichen Einflüssen des Rauchens fernzuhalten. Zigarettenautomaten werfen die Glimmstengel in Deutschland deshalb ohne Altersnachweis nicht mehr aus und auch in Japan will man dem ungehemmten Nikotinmissbrauch mit Technik begegnen. Microsoft very happy with the sales of Office Mac
Source : News.com Microsoft refuses to communicate the number of Office Mac sold, however the company is said to be very satisfied in the way in which its latest version that has beaten all the records for 19 years of existence of its Mac division.
Compared with the sales of Office 2004, version 2008 is selling at a rate 3 times higher.
These excellent figures are certainly not strange given the current great form of Apple. The fact that a family version is also proposed is certainly a help as well.

A Microsoft representative let us know today that "While we don't normally comment on rumors like this, we can tell you that we have no plans to release a new console in 2009". Das MacBook Air ist zwar dünn und mit etwas Augenzwinkern als Subnotebook zu bezeichnen, aber beim Stromverbrauch steht es nicht besser da als der Rest der Apple-Notebookfamilie. Bei letzteren lässt sich die Batterie austauschen, beim Air nicht und deshalb gibt es nun von QuickerTek eine externe Batterie, die sechs bis zehn Stunden zusätzliche Laufzeit bringen soll. Office 2008 triples 2004 sales, VBA to continue trend
Microsoft is selling copies of Office 2008 for Mac to the order of three times the rate of the former 2004 version, a trend which it hopes to continue once Visual Basic functionality is restored in a future version.
