Retroalarm: C-64 erreicht das iPhone

Nach einigem hin und her hat Apple endlich den Commodore 64 Emulator “c64″ im AppStore zugelassen. Noch Anfang August hatte Apple das App abgelehnt, jetzt der Sinneswandel. Wie Entwickler Manomio auf der Homepage schreibt musste die Programmiersprache Basic entfernt werden. Aber man sei guter Dinge, das sie in einer späteren Version des Apps wieder eingebaut werden kann.

MSI X600 hands-on: 15.6-inches on a slim plastic platter

There's not really much to say about MSI's X600 that can't be said about the X340: both laptops slightly improve upon the (rather shoddy) build quality of the X320, but the X600 is just bigger, and packs a numeric keypad. The keyboard is really the definition of mushy, though it's at least got a bit of a backbone underneath now, and the machine overall feels like it could snap in half at the slightest bit of misapplied pressure. We're sure that's an overstatement, and it's hard to find this much computer in this thin of a form factor at this low of price, but you might want to save a few dollars for a new pair of kid gloves if you're thinking of making the plunge.Filed under:

Commodore 64 emulator now $5 on iPhone

The good news is that Apple has finally let an emulator on the iPhone.  The bad news is that it is so neutered that it might not be that great of a value proposition.  As Arnold Kim reports yesterday on Touch Arcade and today on Macrumors, Apple appears to have requested the removal of the Commodore BASIC interpreter from the application which allows running arbitrary code (or any fun stuff). UMEC's Android videophone and MID prototypes stray from the beaten path

We've seen plenty of odd Android permutations, but UMEC seems to be striving to do something all its own. It's showing two devices it currently has in the works, one is a videophone / hub / DECT phone / etc. unit (pictured), which might be at home on a countertop, while the other is a brightly hued MID, with similar internal specs but more portable aims. Auf neue iPod- oder iPhone-Soundsysteme von JBL haben wir dieses Jahr vergeblich gewartet. Immerhin kümmert sich der Hersteller um die Aktualität seines Line-ups und schiebt bei zwei Produkten die iPhone-Zertifizierung nach: Der Nachfolger des hier ausführlich vorgestellten "Radioweckers" On Time 200iD heißt fast gleich, kommt aber mit einem für iPhone-Besitzer wichtigen Unterschied, das neue On Time 200P ist gegen Mobilfunk-Störgeräusche abgeschirmt und produziert beim Anschluss eines iPhones auch keine lästigen Warnhinweise mehr. Die unverbindliche Preisempfehlung des Herstellers liebt bei 199 Euro, gewöhnlich finden sich die Geräte dann jedoch ein gutes Stück günstiger im Handel. Hidden Preferences in Quick Time X

Quick Time X is one of the new feature of Snow Leopard. It is faster and more reactive than the previous version, especially when running it in 64-bits mode. However, we were surprised by the lack of new features/functions released with QT X. Most advanced functions found previously in QuickTime Player have simply disappeared (copy/paste, track extraction, etc.). In addition, one can not really easily set the application the way we would like to use it. Studie: Mobiles Internet als universeller Assistent

Mobile Mehrwertdienste werden sich künftig noch stärker durchsetzen - die vom Kölner eco-Verband befragten Experten der Telekommunikations- und IT- Branche. Für seine Studie "Mobile Outlook" hat der Verband rund hundert Marktteilnehmer befragt. Demnach gehen fast 64 Prozent der Umfrageteilnehmer davon aus, dass E-Mail und Instant Messaging die wichtigsten massentauglichen Funktionen sein werden. Dicht gefolgt werden diese Anwendungen aber bereits von Location Based Services bzw. Navigation, für die fast 63 Prozent stimmten. Stark zugelegt im Vergleich zur Befragung im letzten Jahr hat aus Sicht der Befragten die "orts- und zeitunabhängige Kommunikation mit Communities" bzw. das mobile Web 2.0, das mit gut 38 Prozent (2008: 21 Prozent) bejaht wird. Auch die Themen Sicherheit, Datenschutz und Spam auf dem Handy haben der Umfrage zufolge an Relevanz gewonnen.

Apple to Sell Mobile Phone Ringtones?

In theory, Apple already offers ringtones for iPhone. However, one needs to already own the music track from which you want to get a ringtone. You will then have to pay a second fee, to get the track switch into a ringtone. In practice, most customers are using the freeware and shareware allowing already to generate for free ringtones from your music library. Of course, Apple and owners rights are theoretically losing money. Things might change. According to CNET, Apple might have negotiated with Majors to sell ringtones ready for the iPhone, and potentially independently of music tracks. Most users will adopt this new offer only if it is attractively priced. Let's hope that Apple does not take this opportunity to lock the current systems allowing to have "home-made" ringtones.

Samsung says it's absolutely not pursuing SanDisk any longer, just listening to Blood on the Tracks for no reason

Not sure why Samsung felt the need to reassure investors and the SEC that it's no longer pursuing SanDisk after its buyout offer was withdrawn back in November, but here we are, reading about it in the Wall Street Journal.
