RIM settles with patent holder Visto to the tune of $267.5 million

Google considering Chrome OS for cellphones?

Apple VS Palm; who is the bad one ?
From the release of iTunes 8.2.1 which blocked the synchronization of Palm Pré, many on the Web comments on this action by Apple. Some are not able to decide on who plays the role of the evil one, while for others quite naturally it is Apple. However all is not so simple. Let us start with a small reminder.

Analyst: Microsoft "misjudged" iPhone, Google
In a rare move, Argus Research analyst Jackson Turner today reversed his recommendations and urged investors to sell Microsoft stock. HTC Hero freed from generic box, called best Android device yet

Sony Ericsson posts $299 million Q2 2009 loss, PlayStation-integrated phone (probably Aino) coming Q4
The good news, if you want to call it that, is that Sony Ericsson's most recent quarter loss is not as bad as its epic $382 million tab prior, and at this point there's no talk of further en masse job cuts. Intel goes again on the attack with the X25-M
In the young market of SSD discs, there was a time "before Intel" and "after Intel", its X25-M discs having considerably raised the bar of the expected performances of MLC SSD discs. But since the manufacturer had lost its top position due to price drops and the arrival of a model 160 GB disk.
As envisaged, and thanks to new chips engraved in 34nm, Intel goes again onto the attack. German and Austrian sites start to refer the new references of X-25M containing of the 34nm chips. One now needs around 200 Euros for a model 80 GB, 400 Euros for one 160 GB. The 320 GB are referred, but no price has been announced. It would be no surprise to be around 800 Euros. Even though it is still difficult to speak about cheap product, the X25-M will start to become accessible, at least for the 80 GB version

The Soniphone C908 is just a confused mishmash of branded signals -- Sony Ericsson is plainly visible across the top of the LCD, but a little Walkman branding was thrown in under it just for added fun. Nokia verzeichnet erneut massiven Umsatz- und Gewinneinbruch

Als Mac-User erübrigt sich in den meisten Fällen die Suche nach einem aktuellen Treiber, da das Mac-Betriebssystem die erforderlichen bereits beisteuert. AVM hat im Fritz-Labor eine neue Firmware für das Fritzfon MT-D veröffentlicht. Das Labor-Update erweitert das DECT-Mobilteil unter anderem um eine Babyfon-Funktion. IDC: PC-Markt übertrifft Erwartungen im zweiten Quartal
IDCs "Worldwide Quarterly PC Tracker" zufolge sind die Verkaufszahlen von Desktop-PCs und Notebooks im zweiten Quartal um 3,1 Prozent gegenüber demselben Zeitraum des Vorjahres gesunken. Mobile Marketing Teil 1: Wetterfühlig?
Die vom 23.-24.09.09 in Köln stattfindende digital marketing exposition & conference (dmexco) wird von den Veranstaltern mit sogenannten "Night Talks" vorbereitet. Bei der letzten Talkrunde wies laut der Werberbibel "Horizont" Elephant Seven-Geschäftsführer Götz Teege darauf hin, dass die Entwicklung des Mobile Marketings offenbar stark vom Klima abhängig sei. "Es ist das Wetter, das den Unterschied macht", sagte er und erläuterte weiter: Da die Nutzer in den südeuropäischen Ländern wegen der hohen Temperaturen sehr viel mehr Zeit im Freien verbrächten als Nordeuropäer, sei das mobile Internet beispielsweise in Spanien und Italien deutlich stärker verbreitet als bei uns. Mobile Marketing Teil 2: +600%!
Die Anzahl der mobilen Kampagnen ist 2008 im Vergleich zum Vorjahr um über 600 Prozent gestiegen. Dies geht aus einer Erhebung des Mobile Advertising Circle (MAC) im Bundesverband Digitale Wirtschaft (BVDW) hervor. Dabei wurden alle von den Mitgliedern des MAC umgesetzten Mobile-Kampagnen der Jahre 2007 und 2008 berücksichtigt. Über 88 Prozent aller Unternehmen, die 2007 mobil geworben hatten, zeigten sich zufrieden und nutzten "Mobile" auch 2008 als Werbekanal. Die Anzahl der Werbetreibenden 2008 auf 136, was einer Verdreifachung gegenüber den Vorjahreszahlen entspricht. Die durchschnittliche Anzahl gebuchter mobiler Kampagnen pro Werbetreibenden hat sich 2008 im Vergleich zum Vorjahr auf etwa vier verdoppelt. Apples Produktpolitik ist bekanntermaßen ausgesprochen regriede. Da werden Schnittstellen wie Firewire ohne Ankündigung gestrichen (und tauchen wenig später ebenso überraschend wieder auf), es gibt Tastaturen mit Ziffernblock nur noch auf Wunsch oder der Prozessorhersteller und damit die gesamt Architektur des Systems wird kurzerhand gewechselt.

Sony Ericsson kommt nicht aus den roten Zahlen
Sony Ericsson hat im zweiten Geschäftsquartal (bis 30. Juni) erneut Verluste hinnehmen müssen. Nachdem der Handyhersteller im Vorquartal ein Minus von 293 Millionen Euro verzeichnet hatte, belief sich der Netto-Fehlbetrag im zweiten Vierteljahr 2009 auf 213 Millionen Euro. Der Umsatz brach gegenüber dem Vergleichszeitraum des Vorjahres um 40 Prozent von 2,82 auf 1,684 Milliarden Euro ein.

"Twitter" ist bekanntlich einer der neueren und erfolgreicheren Trends in der Online-Kommunikation, auch wenn es geteilte Meinungen über den Gehalt der meisten 140-Zeilen-Nachrichten gibt, mit denen Twitterer die Welt über ihr aktuelles Tun und Befinden auf dem Laufenden halten. Beeindruckend aber sind und bleiben die Zuwachsraten dieser Plattform. Die neuen Möglichkeiten des iPhone 3GS, haben einen Entwickler des Fraunhofer Instituts für Graphische Datenverarbeitung (IGD) auf die Idee gebracht, via App die gerade aktiven iPhone-Twitterer in der eigenen Umgebung sichtbar zu machen. So kann man diese direkt ansprechen und viel unmittelbarer "antwittern". Michael Zöllners App "TwittARound" funktioniert denkbar einfach: Nach dem Start der Anwendung schwenkt man mit der Videokamera des iPhones über seine Umgebung und bekommt im Display eingeblendet, wer gerade von wo welchen "Tweet" (Twitterbeitrag) mit seinem iPhone versendet hat.

iTunes-Update unterbindet Synchronisation mit Palm Pre
Apple hat ein Update für iTunes veröffentlicht, das die Software auf die Version 8.2.1 aktualisiert. Den Release Notes des 77,3 MByte großen Updates zufolge korrigiert iTunes 8.2.1 mehrere Fehler. Sony's plan for "snackable" PSP game and application downloads revealed
Sony already announced its intentions to bring more developers to the PSP platform at the big E3 gaming show last month. Update addresses an issue with the verification of Apple devicesUpdate: Apple has now confirmed that iTunes 8.2.1 also prevents the Palm Pre from syncing music and video with the software. Computer sales will be down in 2010
According to the last analysis of iSuppli, world sales of computers should drop in 2009, a first since 2001 and the collapse of bubble Internet. Without surprises, and according to the tendency evident over several years, the desktop machines should take heaviest cut by losing 18,1% their sales. Servers will not be celebrating either with a reduction of 9,5%. However, the sector of the portables, already the largest, should see their sales increasing by 11,5%. Another study finds that the sales of ultra portables cannibalise those of the top-of-the-range portables.
