1Password mit Safari 4-Unterstützung
Der Passwortmanager 1Password ist nun auch mit Final-Version von Safari 4 kompatibel. In der Version 2.9.19 gibt es neben dem Safari 4-Support eine automatische Updatefunktion.

Comcast reportedly redirecting DNS traffic
An angry Comcast Internet subscriber has written a complaint (caution: may not be safe for work) that alleges the provider is intercepting his DNS requests to other, non-Comcast DNS servers and redirecting them to its own. ZFS not included with Snow Leopard Server?
The long-expected addition of ZFS to Snow Leopard Server may have been silently dropped. Although Apple has previously indicated that the file management system would be a part of Server, ZFS was not mentioned in yesterday's keynote, and is not listed in the features on Apple's website.

iPhone 3-for-all
Look, we know what type of trouble we are asking for here, so let's get this out of the way first: You are responsible for what you do. We take no responsibility for this information and if your iPhone explodes, we don't even care.
That being said, and only(!!) if you so choose, you can now download the 3.0 OS software from those nefarious torrent sites, or your buddy who is a iPhone developer. You can then option/install it on your iPhone/iPod touch using iTunes and get a week jump on Apple's official release. Also, remember to get the right firmware for your device. iPhone 3G has different firmware than the original iPhone for instance. Finally, consider that the 3.0 software updates the baseband, potentially making a SIM-unlock more difficult.

iPhone 3GS has new oleophobic screen
Lost in yesterday's torrent of information was that the new iPhone 3GSes have a fingerprint-resistant oleophobic screen which may go further in reducing oils left on the iPhone. Apparantly the change wasn't big enough news to warrant time at the Keynote.

Nokia hopes to one-up Touchstone, harness wireless power for "ambient" phone charging
Like a page torn right out of the government's top secret files on Nikola Tesla, a Nokia research team is working on a wireless energy harvesting mechanism, which sucks up all that cancer-giving RF floating through the air and turns it into electrical current. Their goal is about to capture about 50 milliwatts of power for "ambient charging" -- which would at least be enough to top off the battery while the phone is off. Samsung shows video-capable e-paper display
At the SID Display Week show in Korea, Samsung's LCD unit is showing off a 10.2-inch prototype display that combines LCD video display and e-paper technologies and allows users to switch between the modes. Boingo data shows iPhone, iPod touch use growing fast
Boingo Wireless, a Wi-Fi hotspot provider, is sharing statistics regarding the usage of its service, which it claims shows heavy access from iPhones and iPod touches. The combination of the two devices represents nearly a quarter of all access, at 23 percent. The figure puts Apple handhelds ahead of both Mac- and Windows Vista-based computers, and second only to Windows XP systems.

iSkysoft ships completed DVD-Library backup utility
iSkysoft has released the full version of DVD-Library software, used to backup movies to a Mac or portable hard disk as separate ISO images. Files retain a DVD's content protection and digital quality, but can be still be watched on a computer. The DVD Boxes feature adds a cover image, disc information and custom organization.

Samsung shows off video-capable e-paper prototype
E-paper displays capable of playing video aren't exactly a completely new development, but Samsung seems to be particularly proud of its latest prototype, which makes use of some new, slightly mysterious technology to let you switch between e-paper and video modes. That's apparently possible in part thanks to an active matrix panel that uses "a kind of cholesteric liquid crystal" which, oddly enough, has so far been primarily used in displays on flash drives. MacBook Air: Comparing Previous and New Models
After comparing the MacBook Pro models, let's have a look at the old and new MacBook Air units:
The entry-level model is now more affordable (300 Euro cheaper), and its CPU clock gained 260 MHz. Thanks to cheaper SSD, the price of the high-end model massively decreased (600 Euro down!) with a faster CPU. Nothing seems to have been additionally changed at the hardware.

MacBook Pro: Comparing Previous and New Models
After the update of the new MacBook Pro models, we though it could be uselfull to provide a detail comparison between previous and new models, to help our readers to choose. Especially considering that Apple will offer previous MBP on the Refurb Store with discounted priced, while new MBP also seen their target price cut.
MacBook (Pro) 13": Entry level model, around 50 Euro cheaper, has a CPU clocked 260 MHz higher and a back-lighted keyboard. The second model is around 100 Euro cheaper than before and get 130 MHz faster CPU and 3 GB additional memory. On both models the Firewire is back with a FW800. Those models also feature a new battery allowing up to 7 hours power.
MacBook Pro 15": The entry level model is now 200 euro cheaper, with a small 130 MHz CPU clock bumpt, but double RAM. However, it has "only" a GF 9400 M graphical chipset

New MacBook Pro can boot off SD card
According to a kbase note just published by Apple:
Can I install Mac OS X on an SD storage device and use it as a startup volume?Yes. Change the default partition table to GUID using Disk Utility, and format the card to use the Mac OS Extended file format to do so.

Microsoft ends Xbox 360 RROD "coffin" program, still paying for shipping
Getting an Xbox 360 RROD was never any fun, but at least getting it fixed was easy, since a quick phone call would get you a pre-paid "coffin" in which to send the broken console back for repairs. Not anymore -- although Redmond will still pay for return shipping, the company's beancounters have decided to axe the expense of sending custom packaging out to people who need repairs, meaning anyone who gets an RROD will need to pack things themselves. ExpressCard 2.0 standard finally finalized, faster than ever
A final spec has been promised for over a year now, but the PCMCIA folks have just now finally settled on the long-awaited ExpressCard 2.0 standard which, among other things, incorporates the new SuperSpeed USB spec to allow for faster transfer rates. In real world use, that should translate to transfer rates up to 5Gbps, or roughly 10 times faster than the previous ExpressCard 1.2 standard. Is Safari 4.0 chomping system resources?
The latest release of Apple's web browser, Safari, has come with much applause. However, Safari 4.0 appears to be a major resource hog. Upon downloading Safari 4.0 (via Software Update) here at MacFixIt, we noticed that while the feature upgrades and enhancements looked great and were super fast, it seems to be at the expense of the rest of the system.

iPhone apps: DeepFish, Brain Exercise, StockWatch
DeepFish ($5) can be used to search through an IMAP-based email account. The application allows users to set up multiple IMAP accounts and then search through them individually, across folders, or through sub-folders. Comcast 50Mbps reaches DC with lower price
Comcast today expanded its DOCSIS 3.0-based cable modem service to Washington, D.C. with a price cut to match. The US capital has the same 50Mbps peak downloads and 10Mbps peak uploads as other areas but has had the price of the service drop substantially, down $40 to $100 per month. News: Rogers reveals Canadian iPhone 3G S pricing
Rogers Wireless has revealed its pricing for the iPhone 3G S in Canada, via Keith McArthur, the company’s official rep on Twitter. The pricing is mostly consistent with the U.S., with the 16GB model offered for $199 CAD with a three-year contract and the 32GB running $299 CAD with the same terms. Little more than a month after getting our sweaty, gloveless mitts on the Zero Motorcycles Zero S we received an offer to ride yet another high-tech wunderbike: the Brammo Enertia. New iDisk app to accompany iPhone 3.0?
Quietly announced alongside iPhone 3.0 features and the iPhone 3GS yesterday was a forthcoming iDisk app, Apple's website reveals. Though not yet on the App Store, the software should allow MobileMe subscribers to access files in a remote iDisk folder. Navigon MobileNavigator: Ab Juni auch für iPhone verfügbar

That being said, if you so choose, you can now download the 3.0 OS software from those nefarious torrent sites, or your buddy who is a iPhone developer. Before, to do so, you'd need a developer to put your Device ID in a list. Now iPhones and iPod touches are activating normally without being "on the list". Plus, this is the GM and we've been playing with it for awhile and we can say that this is very stable and completeplus, for some reason we can still tether on AT&T.

Schon ein paar Tage bevor Apple das neue iPhone 3G S in den Handel bringt, lassen sich einige Funktionen schon im Bild ansehen. Das erste Foto zeigt das Topmodell mit 32 GB Speicher von vorne und hinten. Das Gehäuse ist auf der Rückseite genau so glänzend wie das Vorgängermodell. An der Größe hat sich nichts verändert, lediglich das Gewicht hat um ganze 2 Gramm zugenommen.

Buried under the considerable stack of WWDC newness is news that Apple is launching an iPhone iDisk application for MobileMe users alongside iPhone OS 3.0. It lets users browse through and view their remotely stored docs, but there doesn't seem to be an offline component to the app (at least none is mentioned in Apple's brief writeup) -- though a feature that lets you email a download link to an iDisk file is welcome. EU senkt Roamingpreise ab 1. Juli

AT&T WILL offer tethering on the iPhone... just hasn't worked out an announcement yet
Engadget is reporting that AT&T is going to offer a tethering plan, they just haven't worked out the details. Plus, we have a whole week until the iPhones go on sale, what's the big rush? They just haven't figured out how much extra they can get out of you suckers customers.
BGR says there will be a $70/month unlimited data w/tethering plan (so +$40 for Tethering) Also, AT&T will offer an unlimited MMS solution for $20/month. Ouch.

New MobileMe stuff...iDisk.app
Apple has updated its MobileMe page. By far the most exciting feature for us is the "find your iPhone" capabilities we heard about at the show. But that isn't it. There is now going to be a free iDisk.app that will allow you to do some fun stuff on the iPhone with your files. This includes things like the ability to view your pdf, office, etc. files (assuming over 3G) that are on your MobileMe account. Also, you can share your MobileMe files with your contacts using the iDisk.app.

We're all pretty spoiled in these digital days; not that long ago taking a look at a vacation's worth of photos required a trip to the store, a couple of hours (or days) wait, and then the better part of an afternoon getting fingerprints all over a stack of poorly composed shots that you daren't throw out because you just paid good money to have them printed. Auch wenn die Benchmark-Programme von Futuremark in letzter Zeit etwas an Beliebtheit eingebüßt haben, so werden diese immer noch in einem großen Umfang eingesetzt. Nvidia GT300 erst im ersten Halbjahr 2010?
Die „Next-Gen“-GPUs befinden sich derzeit noch in der Entwicklung und die beiden Chipspezialisten ATi sowie Nvidia scheinen derzeit unterschiedlich weit fortgeschritten zu sein. Werbung muss schockieren, aufrütteln, provozieren. So heißt es gemeinhin. Doch diesmal sollten nicht die potentiellen Kunden provoziert werden, sondern Apple. Mit einem großen Plakat warb der norwegische DVD-Hacker Jon Lech Johansen für eine Software, die iTunes-Musik auf beliebige tragbare Musikspieler und Mobiltelefone bringt. Noch günstiger: Snow Leopard erhält Up-to-date-Programm
Ab September wird Apple das neue Betriebssystem mit dem Codenamen Snow Leopard verkaufen, und zwar zum Schnäppchenpreis von 29 US-Dollar. Es geht aber auch noch günstiger: Wer ab dem 8. Juni 2009 einen Mac erwirbt, kommt in den Genuss des Snow Leopard Up-to-Date-Programms und kann Mac OS X 10.6 für 8,95 Euro bestellen. Genauere Informationen zu dem Angebot wird Apple am 16. But "Details of pricing will be available at launch" for UK customers Snow Leopard, the next major update to OS X, will be available in September, Apple announced during Monday’s Worldwide Developer Conference keynote. Sun-Aktionäre stimmen am 16. Juli über Oracle-Übernahme ab

Apple iPhone 3G S gets FCC clearance like clockwork
We have a hard time believing that the FCC's documentation system is efficient and well-coordinated enough to actually reveal documents at the exact date and time that filers want them to -- so who knows, maybe the feds are in bed with Apple on keeping its most prized launches under lock and key until just the right moment. We kid, we kid -- maybe -- but at any rate, you can now peruse hundreds of pages of specific absorption rate plots for GSM, UMTS / HSDPA, WiFi, and Bluetooth in both 16 and 32GB flavors of the iPhone 3G S. It's not likely going to tell you anything you didn't already know or care about, especially since there aren't any external photos or user's manuals accessible yet -- but if you get really, amazingly bored this evening, it might be worth a look-see.

HP's just kicked out a slew of updates to its laptop lines, and thankfully the biggest news is that they've gotten cheaper. The HP dv2z brings the low end of the 12.1-inch AMD Neo ultraportable down to $599, while the larger Intel-based dv3t is now $649. If we often talk about SSD and their impressive performance levels, prices of such storage units usually remain outrageously expensive, and restricted to a small number of users. Kingston announced new products, aiming to become the first customer/mass market-oriented SSD models, and named them SSDNow V "Value".
All drives are available in 2.5" SATA format, featuring either 64 or 128 GB. According to the company, reading and wiring speeds are respectively 100 MB/s and 80 MB/s. TomTom on iPhone this Summer
With the iPhone OS 3.0, what has been a phantasm for many iPhone owners will turn reality this summer. TomTom will finally arrive on our iPhone, making it possible for any of us to add another function of our mobile phone (or another good excuse to get an iPhone 3GS if you have to argue with your wife).

As usual after a Keynote and/or the introduction of new products, we will provide analysis and compare then to the previous models.
MacBook ProApple decided to unify its Alu-enclosure notebook models under the same name, aka MacBook Pro, so the previously known Unibody macBook is now a 13" MacBook Pro. But as we will see it, it is not only a matter of renaming, the new 13" MacBook Pro has been updated at the hardware level:
The price of the 17" model is strongly reduced (starting at 2499 USD) and one can now add faster CPU, up to 3.06 GHz as a BTO.
The main changes are for the 15" MacBook Pro: It now features a built-in battery, as its brother the 17", and can now enjoy 7 hours. However, the 153 models does not feature the ExpressCard slot anymore (preserved on the 17") and adopt a SD card port most probably to fit with t

White MacBook last MacBook standing
Apple wasn't totally clear about this earlier, but it turns out all the unibody MacBook models are now MacBook Pros -- the only remaining "MacBook" is the white plastic number. That's definitely a big change from Cupertino's usual rigidly-maintained product matrix -- and we'd say that the lower-end Pros with GeForce 9400M integrated graphics definitely blur the line between consumer and professional machines. Apple has updated its MobileMe page. By far the most exciting stuff for us is the "find your iPhone" stuff. But that isn't it. There is now going to be a free iDisk .app that will allow you to do some fun stuff on the iPhone with your files. This includes things like the ability to view your pdf, office, etc. files (assuming over 3G) that are on your MobileMe account. Also, you can share your MobileMe files with your contacts using the iDisk.app.

Let's first remind you the main changes introduced with the last White MacBook (mid-2009) when compared to the previous model (early 2009):
CPU 2.13 GHz vs. 2.0 GHz
Larger storage capacity for HD
Faster DDR2 memory from 667 to 800 MHz*
There is also a invisible modification. The motherboard has been slightly modified. Now ,the CPU thermal sensor is not installed on the heatsink, but directly on the motherboard. It does not make a lot of a difference technically, however this change might be the solution for the issue faced by many White MacBook owners leading to random freeze of the system.
* This point is most probably the main reason why the performance level of the new White MacBook jumped so strongly and even overtook the previous entry-level Unibody MacBook. AS, the Unibody MacBook have been officially renamed 13" MacBook Pro, one will have to run a new test side-by-side.
