Palm Pre's iTunes hack diagnosed, "easily blockable by Apple"
It looks like Palm is laying up a nice juicy volley for Apple to spike should it desire to. The iTunesSync they have could easily be blocked by Apple in a software update. You see, while the Palm identifies itself as an Apple iPod in Media Sync mode, it is only through one interface. The root USB node (IOUSBDevice) still identifies the device as a Palm Pre. It wouldn't be hard for Apple to simply look for this in iTunes and disable synching in a device with this footprint. Then again, it wouldn't be hard for Palm to updatethe root USB node information negating such a hack block. Cat and mouse as they say.

New ATI/AMD GPU in September
According to Fudzilla, ATI/AMD should release before the launch of Windows 7 two new high-end GPU, engraved at 40 nm, and currently known as R800 and RV870. both products will be using the same chips. The R800 will be integrating two RV870 chips. Belkin ships Micra Chex and Fuse cases for Nano 4G

Apple posts iLife, Digital Camera Raw updates
Using Mac OS X's Software Update feature, Apple has released updates to several key pieces of software. Among these is Digital Camera Raw 2.6, which extends RAW format support within Aperture 2.x and the '08 and '09 editions of iPhoto. Compatible cameras now include the Nikon D5000 and the Olympus E-30, as well as Canon's EOS-500D, Rebel T1i and EOS Kiss Digital X3.

New iPhone Models to Be Unveiled on June 8th without Exclusive partnership!?
According to an information published by the AFP quoting a source close to the project, Apple might drop all exclusive agreement with carriers to give customers more freedom and not be bound to a carrier and/or a subscription plan. We are particularly surprised by this announcement as all our information indicated that Orange secure an exclusive partnership again for France till November 2009, as AT&T did in USA.In the same news, AFP announced that those new models will be unveiled on June 8th, and available in stores in July.

Confirmed: Palm Pre's iTunes support is very, very hacky
Careful analysis of a Pre's identity to its host system when connected via USB has now confirmed what's been suspected for a few days now -- the way it hooks to iTunes is very shady indeed. Turns out that the Pre identifies itself as an iPod when it's in Media Sync mode, but only on the system's mass storage interface; the root USB node still comes through as a Palm Pre, which Apple could easily tease out and block if it so chose. Remember Dash? The upstart connected GPS maker who put out the much-loved Dash Express but didn't realize people didn't want to pay a monthly fee for GPS services and eventually folded in on itself? Both Palm and Sprint late Wednesday said that they don't expect, and may want to avoid, long queues for the Pre. The smartphone creator's spokeswoman Lynn Fox admits that Palm expects a slow build-up rather than an immediate rush and thus that crowded stores alone wouldn't work. DJ Hero hands-on
Activision's being pretty guarded with DJ Hero at the moment. Not only is it available only behind closed doors at its E3 2009 booth, but even then we weren't able to get our own hands-on time with the game, relegated instead to playing guitar along with someone else on the deck through that Monkey Wrench / Sabotage mashup. We did, however, get a chance to play take it out of the darkly-lit room and get a good feel of its weight and build quality, which we might add is pretty solid. Patentantrag: Click Wheel mit Multitouch
Apple hat offenbar im September letzten Jahres das Patent für ein Multitouch-Click Wheel beantragt. Mit ähnlichen Gesten wie vom iPod touch oder iPhone bekannt, könnten darüber Funktionen wie weiterblättern oder zoomen aktiviert werden.
Der Beweis für die Integration einer derartigen Funktion in den nächsten iPod-Generationen ist dies allerdings keinesfalls. Ebenfalls im letzten Jahr hat Apple auch das Gegenstück - ein virtuelles Scroll Wheel auf einem Touchscreen - zum Patent eingereicht (wir berichteten).

Fujitsu-Tochter TDS AG steigert Umsatz um 17 Prozent
Der IT-Dienstleister TDS Informationstechnologie AG hat in dem am 31. März zu Ende gegangene Geschäftsjahr 2008/2009 mehr Umsatz und Gewinn erzielt als je zuvor. Der Konzernumsatz legte um 17,3 Prozent auf 131,9 Millionen Euro zu. Das Neckarsulmer Unternehmen übertraf seine Umsatzprognose von rund 115 Millionen Euro damit deutlich. 1 Mrd. US-Dollar Investition in Apple-Serverfarm bestätigt
Apples geplante Serverfarm im US-Bundesstaat North Carolina wird gebaut werden, wie einer Pressemitteilung der Regierung zu entnehmen ist. Die Anlage soll mindestens 50 direkte Vollzeitarbeitsplätze sowie bis zu 250 Arbeitsplätze in den Bereichen Wartung, Landschaftspflege und Sicherheitsdienste schaffen. Neue CPU-Kühler von Thermaltake gesichtet
Thermaltake hat zur Computex seine CPU-Kühler etwas überholt. Zum einen handelt es sich dabei um den SpinQ VT, der aus dem bekannten und bei uns bereits getesteten SpinQ hervorgegangen ist. Im Grunde hat Thermaltake beim SpinQ VT nur die Orientierung des Lüfters geändert, fertig ist das neue Produkt.

Britische Polizei sucht einfaches Gerät für Analyse von PCs
Die britische Polizei überprüft derzeit die Tauglichkeit von kommerziellen Geräten, die Beweise für illegale Aktivitäten auf PCs finden und sichern sollen. Apple kündigt nach Steuergeschenk Bau von Rechenzentrum an

But Sony's MotionPortrait is different, SolidAlliance different. The technology creates 3D graphics from 2D stills of human faces. Innenminister fordern "Ermächtigungsgrundlagen" im Kampf gegen Internetkriminalität
Die Innenminister der Ländern und Wolfgang Schäuble (CDU) als Vertreter des Bundes haben gestern in Bremerhaven einen Katalog an Maßnahmen vorgestellt, mit denen sich Deutschland besser vor Gefahren aus dem Netz schützen kann. Gefahren drohten durch Terrorismus und durch Internetkriminalität. "Insbesondere die Nutzung moderner Informations- und Kommunikationstechnik erfordert entsprechende gesetzliche Ermächtigungsgrundlagen", heißt es in dem Programm "Innere Sicherheit".

Palm Pre Testberichte: Große Stärken, kleine Schwächen
Nach der anfänglichen Euphorie über das jüngste Smartphone aus dem Hause Palm kühlen sich die Gemüter langsam wieder ab. Denn eine knappe Woche nachdem die ersten das Gerät in die Hände bekommen haben, sollen intensive Test offenbaren, was das Palm Pre wirklich kann. Vor einigen Tagen staunten wir nicht schlecht, als PowerColor im Alleingang eine Radeon HD 4730 der Öffentlichkeit vorstellte. Die Innenminister der Ländern und Wolfgang Schäuble (CDU) als Vertreter des Bundes haben gestern in Bremerhaven einen Katalog an Maßnahmen vorgestellt, mit denen sich Deutschland besser vor Gefahren aus dem Netz schützen kann. Gefahren drohten durch Terrorismus und durch Internetkriminalität. Adam hat erste Fotos vom Moscone Center West, jenem Gebäude, in dem am kommenden Dienstag die WWDC-Eröffnungs-Keynote stattfindet, veröffentlicht. De nouvelles puces ATI à la rentrée

RAMBUS Patents Claims Rejected by the US PTO
We already reported several times that RAMBUS is investing more in lawyers to sue any companies that might have used part of RAMBUS intellectual properties covered by patents with general and broad claims. The recent target of RAMBUS strategy to be financially healthy is NVidia. According to the company, the GPU designer and manufacturer has been using without rights or appropriate licensing 7 of its patents. Interestingly, instead of going to justice to fight with such patent infringement claims, NVidia decided to ask the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to review the patentability of RAMBUS' patents. The US PTO rejected 7 of the quoted patents, making those filing history and invalidating them. Tw additional patents are still on review by the PTO and might end to the same conclusion.

Wenn auf der Dartscheibe in der Microsoft-Zentrale ein Foto klebt, dann sicherlich eines, welches ein Netbook zeigt. Es war vielleicht das designtechnisch umstrittenste Notebook von Apple, das iBook G3. In deutlicher Anlehnung an den iMac entworfen, hatte das Gerät schon bald den Spitznamen "Klodeckel" weg. North Carolina is officially official.
Apple dropping $1 Billion over 10 years on the Tar Heel State
The rumors have been swirling for weeks, but as per the Governor's words, it is official. Gov. Beverly Perdue signed the incentives bill targeting Apple into law today.
"North Carolina continues to be a prime location for growing and expanding global technology companies," Perdue said in a news release. "We welcome Apple to North Carolina and look forward to working with the company as it begins providing a significant economic boost to local communities and the state."

Engadget reviews the Pre
Engadget does a great review of the Pre and didn't seem to have the same keyboard gripes as BGR. In fact, they thought it was pretty revolutionary.
There's no question that Palm has built this phone on the foundations laid by numerous devices before it -- most obviously the iPhone -- but the Pre clearly carves out its own path as well. Some of the ideas and concepts at play in webOS are truly revolutionary for the mobile space, breaking down lots of the walls that separate the experience of using a dedicated PC versus using a handheld device. One feeling that we were constantly stuck by while testing the phone was a kind of revelatory, 'Hey, this actually feels how a computer feels.' Updated White MacBooks outperform more expensive Unibody siblings across the board
Zoikes! Macworld labs just got done testing the new white MacBook and apparently it is a real screamer. So much, in fact, that it blew right past the $300 more costly Unibody MacBook. That's right, the $999 $925 MacBook is faster than the $1299 MacBook. Results are below (more at Macworld).
The good news for you fans of the aluminum is that Apple likely will most likely not let this stand. We're hoping to see more incremental updates at WWDC..maybe even with a little 3G/GPS juice.

Wie gut, dass es noch so viele andere Apple-Produkte zum "Killen" gibt: SanDisk CEO Eliu Harari erteilt mit "You can't out-iPod the iPod" allen Hoffnungen, dem US-Marktanteil des iPod irgendwann gefährlich zu werden, eine klare Absage. Light Blue Optics promises touch-interface pico projectors
A projector that fits in your pocket not enough to impress your jaded self? Then how about a pico projector that also functions as a full-fledged touch interface? While details are a bit scant so far, Light Blue Optics says it is working on producing just that, and says it could be released to OEMs as soon as the end of this year. That projector would apparently be able to pump out WVGA or QVGA images at 10 lumens, and it'd boast an "ultra-wide" throw angle and the ability to correct for optical aberrations, which should allow it to be used on any flat surface like in the concept above. DISH / EchoStar DVR injunction temporarily put on hold by court
It's the case that never ends -- the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit has issued a temporary delay of of the injunction and fine handed down yesterday in the EchoStar / TiVo lawsuit while it considers an appeal, meaning that DISH owners with older DVRs won't have to worry about losing their pause-and-rewind functionality at least for now. Tip: Double-up the backups instead of backing up the backups.
Backups have always been a cumbersome thing for most home computer users to take the time to set up and maintain. Before Leopard, you had to install a third-party backup program and deal with proprietary formats, data structure, and compression. Apple recognized these problems with the implementation of Time Machine, and the easy "set it and forget it" method of backing up has been a great option for most home users. However, there are still times when Time Machine will not work properly. It will stop backing up certain items, give frequent errors, or have odd behavior that has the user question whether the backups are working properly.

Tough luck, Fujitsu -- seems your entry into the entirely oversaturated netbook market is just "too little, too late." Updated white MacBook gets benchmarked, outperforms unibody counterpart
The white MacBook may look a little out of place among Apple's current laptop offerings, but those looking for the best bang for the buck may want to give the newly-updated model some serious consideration, as it actually outperforms its more expensive unibody counterpart. That word comes from the folks at MacWorld, who ran some benchmarks and found that 2.13GHz white MacBook was about five percent faster than the 2GHz unibody MacBook on average.
