Sumitomo set to produce 40-inch OLED panels in 2009

Not that there was any doubt that OLED is on its way to larger sizes (hasn't it been since like 2005?), but Japanese firm Sumitomo Chemical announced its plans to produce 40-inch OLED panels for HDTVs some time in 2009, meaning Sumitomo-based TVs could hit the market could hit in 2009 or 2010. Circuit City looks for a suitor, Blockbuster likely to be it

Stolen laptop recovered with Back To My Mac

A couple weeks later her place was cleared out to the tune of about $5,000 worth of electronics, including her new Mac. Days later, a friend sees that she's online and alerts the Mac's rightful owner. Überblick: Marktanteile Grafikkarten Q1/2008
Im ersten Quartal des aktuellen Jahres hat sich gegenüber den letzten Quartalen des Jahres 2007 kaum etwas geändert. Intel bestimmt mit einem Marktanteil von 42,7 Prozent das Geschehen, gefolgt von Nvidia mit einem 32,7 Prozent großen Stück vom Kuchen. AMD liegt mit 18,6 Prozent abgeschlagen auf dem dritten Platz.

Online Apple Store hat keine iPhones mehr
In Deutschland lässt sich das iPhone nur noch online bei T-Mobile vorbestellen, bei O2 und Orange gingen schon vor einer Woche die Geräte aus und jetzt kann selbst Apple nicht mehr für Nachschub sorgen: Seit gestern Abend sind im US-amerikanischen Apple Store sowohl das 8-GB, wie auch das 16-GB-Modell "derzeit nicht verfügbar".

Fisker Karma hyrbid sports car spotted on test track complete with stripes and video
Filed under: TransportationDespite all the lawsuit hoopla over who-stole-what, Fisker Automotive is trudging along with its $80,000 Karma plug-in performance hybrid. New, stripey pictures of the actual vehicle in test runs popped up this week telling us that the Karma could actually hit dealers by 2009 as promised. GPS camera hints in iPhone
While by no means conclusive evidence of GPS capabilities in the iPhone camera software, the latest builds of the SDK are littered with GPS references. Whether these are just templates (you can see other camera manufactures included as well) or needed by the 3G iPhone camera software is unknown.
GPS camera software is used to put location (landmark) metadata into the photo files. Applications like Flickr, and Google earth use this data to arrange photographs (and videos) spacially based on this information. For instance, if you snapped a picture in Paris, you could later organize you pictures - perhaps in iPhoto? - by Country/city. Cool!

Apple und Google verlinken YouTube mit dem iTunes Store
Für die meisten Internetnutzer, vor allem der jüngeren Zielgruppe, vergeht kaum ein Tag, an dem sie nicht die Suchmaschine Google oder die Video-Plattform YouTube ansurfen. Sei es, um gewünschte Informationen zu finden oder neuste Musikvideos, TV-Sendungen oder ähnliches anzusehen. Die nun geplante Kooperation mit Apples iTunes Store könnte sich zu einer unschlagbaren Allianz entwickeln. Denn nicht nur iTunes würde von wachsenden Zugriffen profitieren, auch Google verdient als Affiliate-Partner kräftig mit.

Telekom bestätigt 100.000 verkaufte iPhones
Zahlen sind immer so gut, wie man sie darstellt, dachte sich wohl Telekom-Chef René Obermann als er gestern die Verkaufszahlen des iPhones bekannt gab. Strahlend stellte er fest, man habe insgesamt 100.000 Geräte in Deutschland verkauft und damit die exklusive Vermarktungsstrategie zum Erfolgskonzept gemacht. Im internationalen Vergleich jedoch und auch gemessen an der Kaufkraft und Hysterie der Deutschen hätte es besser laufen können und müssen, wie kürzlich auch Apples Europa-Chef Pascal Cagni einräumte.

TapeDeck: Audioaufnahmeprogramm im alten Stil
Das waren noch Zeiten, als man neben dem Kassettenrekorder kauerte, um damit die Hitparaden aus dem Radio aufzunehmen. Vorbei sind diese Zeiten aber nicht, denn dank TapeDeck kann man diese unter Mac OS X 10.5 bei seinen Audioaufnahmen wieder aufleben lassen. Neue Aufnahmen werden dabei als "Tapes" und direkt als MP4-AAC in wahlweise drei Kompressionsstufen abgespeichert.

An Tagen wie dem heutigen Pfingssonntag (und Muttertag) will man lieber an der frischen Luft sitzen, als News über das iPhone zu lesen - außer sie beinhalten die lang ersehnte Bestätigung, dass es das 3G-iPhone mit UMTS geben wird. Und tatsächlich: In der neuen Software-Beta von Firmware-Version 2.0 findet sich in den Einstellungen des "Netzwerk" eine Aktivierungsfunktion für 3G!

iPhones weiter knapp - Am 9. Juni wird alles besser!
Man gewinnt langsam den Eindruck, Apple würde die noch verfügbaren iPhone-Modelle Nonstop um den Globus schicken - heute hier, morgen dort. So kann T-Mobile inzwischen wieder iPhones mit 8 GB Speicher liefern, wo diese doch Mitte der Woche noch vergriffen waren und mit Nachschub erst zur Monatsmitte gerechnet wurde. Dafür präsentieren nun nach O2 UK auch der englische und der amerikanische Apple Store komplett leere Regale: Beide iPhone-Varianten werden dort derzeit mit "Currently Unavailable" gelistet. Ein bemerkenswerter Status bei Apple, den Produkute eigentlich nur dann erhalten, die kurz vor einer umfassenden Aktualisierung stehen oder bald aus dem Angebot entfernt werden.

Apple finally settings its legal sights on the HiPhone?

Oh, there are plenty of bad Chinese iPhone knockoffs out there, but the HiPhone may be the reigning champion these days -- so it kind of seemed like a matter of time before Apple loosed the hounds on distributors of the device. La 8800 GS of the iMac is powerful
Barefeats compared the top-of-the-range iMac equipped with Geforce 8800 GS with the model having Radeon HD 2600 and even include Mac Pro equipped with a 8800 GT in the comparison.
The 8800 GS comes out very well, being approximately 10 to 15% less powerful than the 8800 GT, however more than twice as fast as the 2600 in all the games tested.
As always, the Radeon only could compete when one uses it with pro applications of Apple, or with Core image. In all the other cases, it is submerged.
One will note however that Apple has made a very small effort, the Radeon 2600 of the iMac 2008 being a little faster than that of the preceding range, by approximately 10%.
In short, if you buy a iMac 24" and you are not short of 120, the cost of the Geforce option, take this card. You will have a machine that will last a longer time before being overpowered by new machines.

Der Preiskampf der beiden Prozessorhersteller geht munter weiter, was sich sehr zur Freude der Kundschaft auf die Preise auswirkt. iPhone sold out in France
A few days after O2 in the UK, Orange seems to have no iPhones in stock anymore.
After T-Mobile (Germany) and O2 (UK), Orange was expected to announce price discounts in order to get rid of their existing iPhone stock, but apparently they managed to do so without cutting the price, only a couple of days after one executive said there would be "no iPhone price cut for France".
