Visualized: what your screen looks like after 22 straight hours of Fruit Ninja
Twenty-two and a half hours, actually. Qualcomm's gaming marathon is nearing its end right now. Thirty-two gamers set out to break the Guinness world record for the "longest video game marathon on a tablet" at 2:30PM PT yesterday -- when we popped in this afternoon, 26 were still standing (well, sitting), a couple having fallen to that human weakness that is sleep. Sony shows DSC-RX100 camera, brings GW77V Handycam to US
Sony this week took the wraps off what it's calling its most advanced point-and-shoot camera to date, the DSC-RX100. This claim is backed up by the use of a 13.2x8.8mm (1-inch) Exmor CMOS sensor with an effective 20.2-megapixel resolution. New Chinese Apple Stores to open in Chengdu, Shenzhen
Apple is planning to to open new retail stores in the Chinese cities of Chengdu and Shenzhen, according to government officials quoted by Reuters. The news agency notes that in late May, Apple received approval to set up a business unit for retail sales and after-sales service in Chengdu. As for Shenzhen, the company submitted documents to the city on Monday with the aim of opening an outlet in Holiday Plaza, a luxury mall in the Nanshan district.

Aktualisiert Apple kommende Woche die gesamte Mac-Palette?Es verdichten sich Hinweise darauf, dass es zur WWDC nächste Woche zahlreiche neue Macs geben wird. Google today revealed an array of new features and improvements for Google Maps. In addition to the recently announced offline maps for Android, an update on the Official Google Blog brings news that Google Maps' Street View will add views of areas inaccessible from the road. Apple lodges third ITC complaint against HTC
Apple has filed a third patent infringement complaint against HTC via the US International Trade Commission, says FOSS Patents. The complaint was submitted on Monday, and accuses 29 HTC devices of infringing on an Apple patent, US Patent No. 5,946,647, which involves the automatic detection of data such as phone numbers, email addresses and URLs. Well, it looks like LG's Retina-beating 5-inch display with a 1080p resolution isn't the only screen setting some new pixel density records at the SID conference this week. Report: 6.5 million LinkedIn passwords stolen
Wednesday brings reports of further security woes for LinkedIn, as Norwegian site Dagens IT carries a warning that 6.5 million encrypted passwords from the professional networking site have been posted to a Russian hacker forum. The passwords are said to be in an easily-crackable encryption format, and the files posted to the hacker site may contain user data as well. LinkedIn is looking into the problem, but the company is unable to confirm the breach as of yet.

Workers riot at Foxconn's Chengdu plant
A number of workers at Foxconn's plant in Chengdu, China rioted on Monday night, reports say. The incident allegedly began when security guards attempted to stop a thief, and workers with grudges against the guards interfered. From there the situation grew out of control, until as many as a thousand workers were reportedly throwing bottles, bins, chairs, pots, and fireworks from the upper floors of a male dormitory.

Bring animated GIFs to life with fun and clever Echograph
Today, I had the pleasure of playing with Echograph, a fantastically fun little app that lets you record animated GIFs in real time.
The idea is this: you capture a few seconds of video, trim it down to a portion you like, and freeze the video entirely except for a few bits that you animate by rubbing away at the screen.
The secret lies in using a tripod, an absolute necessity for still shots. Your goal is to focus attention on the one bit of movement that pops in the scene to build a stunning presentation.

Google shows off new backpack-worn Street View capture tool
It looks like Google's Street View will soon be expanding to even more places than it already covers. The company has today taken the wraps off a brand new capture tool that can be worn on a person's back in order to map places that are too difficult for even a bicycle to reach. Naturally, it's Android-powered, and it packs two batteries that Google says will last a full day -- although its 40-pound weight will likely necessitate a few breaks. I've never had problems with the home button on my Verizon iPhone, but if you do, you should check out this repair post from iMore's Allyson Kazmucha. Kazmucha, who founded the repair company PXLFIX, shows you how to remove the back cover, disassemble the internal components and pull out the home button on your CDMA iPhone.

Apple preps two new retail stores in China despite Proview threats
Apple currently has five stores in China -- three in Shanghai and two in Beijing -- but the company is hoping to open two new flagship stores in Chengdu and Shenzhen to bolster sales in the country. At this point in time, China is a hot market for Apple, with the country accounting for a significant portion of the huge quarterly profit increase reported in April.

More part numbers back Apple upgrading most Macs
An expanded list of part numbers indicates that Apple is indeed preparing to update virtually all of its Macs, according to a source for AppleInsider. In all there are 27 new parts, of which 14 are believed to be Macs; all of the parts are said to be in Apple's reseller system. AT&T chief sees data-only phone plans as inevitable
AT&T's CEO Randall Stephenson is finally seeing the writing on the wall, stating on Friday that data-only smartphone plans are "likely to arrive" in the next two years. "I'll be surprised if, in the next 24 months, we don't see people in the market place with data-only plans," noted Stephenson. "I just think that's inevitable."
Stephenson now feels that the company may need to begin offering data-only plans in order to compete with other cellular providers. The change is due to a shift from traditional voice cell network usage towards VoIP solutions like Skype and non-text messaging solutions such as Apple's iMessage.

LinkedIn iPhone app transmits unsecured iCal data home
Security researchers have found that a feature in the LinkedIn mobile app for iOS could be considered a security risk. New evidence suggests Mac Pro updates next week
Two different reports suggest that Apple may in fact be planning to update the Mac Pro next week. MacRumors says it has learned that Apple began pulling Mac Pro stock from retail stores several weeks ago, although staff were told to inform customers they could still buy the computer online. HTC fährt Gewinnerwartungen zurück

Die finanziellen Aussichten bei HTC werden nicht besser. Das taiwanesische Unternehmen hat jetzt verkündet, die Prognose für das 2. Quartal 2012 deutlich zurückzufahren, konkret um 13,3 Prozent auf rund drei Milliarden US-Dollar. Im Mai 2012 verkaufte HTC rund 26 Prozent weniger Telefone als im Mai des Vorjahres. Vor allem in den USA und in Europa blieben die Verkäufe hinter den Erwartungen zurück. Das passt ins Bild, viele potenzielle Neukäufer warteten offenbar lieber das Galaxy S III ab. ViewSonic zeigt auf der Computex in Taipeh den Prototyp eines so-gut-wie-4K-Monitors, der "noch vor Jahresende" als kompakte Lösung für professionelle Nutzer wie Fotografen oder Cutter vermarktet werden soll und zwar zum "Preis eines Kleinwagens". AMD shows off its first Windows 8 concept tablet at Computex 2012, we go hands-on
If Intel and Microsoft have been the royal couple of Computex 2012 (aka the world's biggest Windows 8 Ultrabook tradeshow), AMD has been the third wheel. That doesn't mean it's opted out of the festivities, though. Nope, it's chosen this week to show off its next-gen Trinity chips, and it even has its first Windows 8 concept device on display. The reference design, made by Compal, has the same form factor we've seen over and over again this week: an 11.6-inch (1366 x 768) tablet with a keyboard dock. Only this guy has one of AMD's Trinity A6 APUs inside, while the keyboard is far more spacious than what we're used to. The warning does not mean that the account has been hijacked, but is an indication that internal Google systems have flagged the account as a target of coordinated attacks from foreign states or state-sponsored groups. NYT: Office for iPad is still on
Microsoft vehemently objected to Office for iPad rumors almost as soon as they first showed up, quashing hopes in the process -- or so we thought. The New York Times now contends that Redmond's PR might just have been exercising plausible deniability: sources for the newspaper assert that Office for iPad is still a reality and that the details, not the app itself, are in dispute. Briefly: Zune brand dead; MyService, Alienware upgrades
While the Zune hardware has been gone for some time, the Zune branding is finally dead. Microsoft spokeswoman Melissa Stewart confirmed at the Electronic Entertainment Expo that the brand is going away to make room for the better known and more respected Xbox brand for its entire entertainment service, including audio and video. Zune Music customers who created playlists using the old service can still access the content using the newly announced Xbox Music Service. The new Xbox Music Service commences sometime this fall.

Elgato first announced its Game Capture HD device mere weeks ago, but since the thing went on sale earlier this month, we hadn't gotten a chance to see it in the flesh. Naturally, given E3's all-things-gaming nature, Elgato brought the device to E3 and we got a chance to get our hands on one. E3 is under way this week, and early presentations from Microsoft and Nintendo has already given us plenty to talk about. Between the Xbox 360s enhanced set-top box suite of apps and SmartGlass second screen demos and the Wii U GamePad's IR control they're more a part of the home theater than ever. Also in the news is Apple TV, while we take a look at what's ahead from Ultra High Definition TV in 4K or 8K and even 3DTV. We'll even touch on our good friend / punching bag TiVo, while Lovefilm is finally in the streaming fight with HD video support. Motorola down to one patent versus Apple
US Court of Appeals (Northern District of Illinois) Judge Richard Posner has granted Apple's motion for summary judgement of non-infringement for yet another patent that Motorola viewed as essential to the underlying technology in the ongoing suit. After the mass-reduction of patents allowed in the suit, Apple is left with four out of an original 16 patents, and Motorola is left with a single patent out of six. Both sides intend to press on, with a trial date set for later this summer.

Nintendo clocks Wii U controller life in at three to five hours on a charge
Nintendo wasn't particularly forthcoming with the specs at its keynote earlier today -- and, well, some things are probably best not mentioned when attempting to hype up your new console. Apple updates MainStage live app to version 2.2.2
Apple has updated it's live performance virtual-instrument and sound effects app MainStage to version 2.2.2, fixing some 14 issues mostly related to stability and compatibility along with general program issues. The update improves compatibility with the VAX-77 keyboard, and resolves a patch issue where patch lists weren't updated to VAX and Axiom keyboards if the keyboard lost and then regained connection after launching the program.

Mophie Juice Pack Pro rugged iPhone 4 case unveiled
Mophie announced its largest battery case compatible with the iPhone 4 and 4S -- the Juice Pack Pro. The case has been tested against military specification MIL-STD 810G, and boasts a 2,500 mAh capacity lithium-ion polymer battery. The polycarbonate and silicone case increases the dimensions of the iPhone to 5.26 inches long, 2.78 inches wide, and 1.02 inches thick -- more than three times as thick as a stock iPhone 4. Poll: Nearly three out of four consumers want an iPad
A new study out from ChangeWave Research holds good news for Apple and, and troubling news for other tablet makers. The iPad remains the overwhelming favorite among consumers, with nearly three out of four survey respondents indicating that they prefer Apple's tablet, while no other manufacturer manages to hit double digits. The report's findings are especially bad for Amazon, as they suggest that the Kindle Fire's sales plummet earlier this year was commensurate with a decline in consumer interest.

Apple TV: Firmware-Version 5.0.2 verfügbar

Microsoft debuts on{X} for Android, promises to 'automate your life'
Well, we can't exactly say we saw this one coming. Microsoft has today taken the wraps off a rather ambitious project dubbed on{X}, which is available exclusively for Android smartphones initially (support for more platforms is planned), and offers a range of tools that promise to help "automate your life."
