Judge cancels Apple v. Motorola jury trial
A federal judge has canceled plans for an Apple v. Motorola jury trial that was scheduled to start next Monday in Chicago, reports say. The news emerged during a pretrial conference held at 12:30PM local time, when Judge Posner noted that neither of the parties were entitled to damages. Without any damages involved, a jury is not required in the case.

Facebook App Center for mobile leaks out on iOS, uses peer pressure to clinch the sale
While Facebook said it would deliver a version of its App Center store for mobile, it was shy on how that would work. Apple wins rights to aplestore.com domain through WIPO
Apple has won the rights to the aplestore.com domain name via a complaint with the World Intellectual Property Organization, says Domain Name Wire. The address is currently registered to a man in Poland, and as of this writing still links to a webpage full of advertising. The page exploits typos made by people trying to reach applestore.com, which redirects to Apple's online store.

Facebook App Center spotted in iOS app
The Facebook App Center is already beginning to appear in some copies of the social network's iOS app, reports say. The portal is meant to make it easier to find Facebook-ready mobile apps, thanks to filters like ratings and categories. New screenshots from a person claiming to have access to the App Center also depict sections like Top Apps and Social Picks, the latter being based on apps friends are using.

The iPad's main competition is the old iPad
While manufacturers struggle to compete with the iPad, Apple has managed to do so successfully. In fact, current demand for the iPad 2 is nearly equal to that of the new iPad.
The iPad 2 dropped in price by $100 when the new iPad was introduced. A recent Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) report notes that the iPad 2 accounted for 41% of all iPad sales since the new iPad was launched in March, 2012.
Apple CEO Tim Cook noted that the drop would make the device more appealing to price-sensitive customers. CIRP partner Josh Lowitz agrees, telling AllThingsD, "The lower price of the iPad 2 seems to be attracting many new b

Apple snags broader design patent for the MacBook Air's wedge shape
It's not the first design patent related to the MacBook Air that Apple has received, but the one it managed to obtain from the USPTO earlier this week is certainly the broadest to date. As explained by The Verge, this one is intended to cover the laptop's distinctive wedge shape, or what's indicated by the solid lines in the illustrations included with the patent. Cronus adapter lets you play Xbox 360 with a PS3 controller and vice versa (video)
There's nothing quite so enlightening as a solution to a problem you didn't realize you had. RaptorFire's booth, tucked away in the back corner of the LA Convention Center's South Hall was offering up just that, in form of Cronus, a little USB stick that the company promises will "change how you look at gaming." Dolby's Atmos is being rolled out to a few selected locations to show off the groundbreaking new technology. Study: 38% of iPhone customers come from RIM, Android
With sales of iPhones still booming, you might be wondering where all of those customers are coming from. Philip Elmer-DeWitt at Fortune is citing an April survey by the Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) that shows that more iPhones were sold to consumers leaving Apple's competitors than to owners of earlier iPhone models.
Data from CIRP indicate that 42 percent of iPhone buyers in April were switching from another smartphone, up from 36 percent in February. 38 percent of those buyers were switching from either Android or BlackBerry -- that's up from 29 percent in February.

Google gives a sneak peek at Chrome for Windows 8's Metro UI, plans a test release soon
Google vowed that it would adapt Chrome to Metro back in March, and it's just now providing its first real look at the Windows 8 revamp. Don't expect a radical remake: it's Chrome, just in Metro. iPad, iPhone account for 2% of Google's revenue in 2012
A note to clients from Piper Jaffray's Gene Munster suggests that about 2% of Google's annual revenue comes from the iPhone.
The note highlights Apple's reasons for extracting Google from of iOS. We suspect that we'll hear about that next week at WWDC, if Apple announces an in-house replacement for Google Maps.

Google promises 3D map imagery for iOS
Google held a map-oriented press event on Tuesday and used the gathering to discuss upcoming changes to Google Earth and Google Maps. The highlight of this event was a demonstration of new fully modeled, fully textured 3D maps for Google Earth.
The demo used an iPad and showed a close-up view of San Francisco's impressive skyscrapers. Google said these features will hit the iOS and Android version of Google Earth in the coming weeks, but didn't provide an exact date.

Solar Impulse completes transcontinental flight, runs out of complimentary peanuts
The Impulse solar-powered plane has successfully completed its first transcontinental journey. It took 19 hours to jet between Madrid and Morocco -- with the plane's 12,000 solar cells swallowing enough power to keep it going long into the night. Pilots Bertrand Piccard and Andre Borschberg can now look forward to planning their next voyage: a round the world cruise penciled in for 2014.

Canon T4i DSLR leaks in photos, to get touchscreen, more
Canon may soon unveil a new DSLR camera, the T4i, according to a couple of image and spec leaks this week. Most notably, it will get touchscreen functionality for the articulating 3-inch LCD out back. This is a welcome addition as the T3i relies solely on the rear LCD for changing advanced settings, and it can be a pain. The first image was shared by CanonPriceWatch, while Canon Rumors has more information, including videos of the interface, on its site.

Mit der GeForce GT 640 haben wir auf der Computex zwar eine neue Grafikkarte zu Gesicht bekommen, allzu spektakulär fiel diese logischerweise aber nicht aus. QNX Software has just peeled the price-sticker off a new Jeep Wrangler reference vehicle that showcases its latest "CAR 2" application platform. The hope is to show how well the system can let car manufacturers build in-vehicle entertainment and infotainment with a custom look, and lets developers create apps that look native to the vehicle. Posted by a parts company known as ETrade Supply, the clip appears to back up photos from other sources showing a number of changes to the iPhone's design. Apple files third complaint against HTC
Apple filed a third complaint against HTC with the International Trade Commission, according to a report by Florian Mueller of FOSS Patents. The latest complaint is based on a December 2011 ruling that says HTC infringed on two Apple patents. These "data tapping" patents let users tap on a number or URL on their phone and open up a menu with actions like "Call" and "Open in Browser." These violations focus on the method of implementing this feature, not the feature itself.

Sprint has confirmed that, as reported previously, Virgin Mobile will become the next US prepaid iPhone carrier. The company is planning to charge substantially more for devices than rival Cricket Wireless; whereas Cricket will sell an 8GB iPhone 4 for $400, and a 16GB iPhone 4S for $500, the same devices will cost $549 and $649 through Virgin. Sierra Wireless outs thinnest-ever 4G LTE module, teases skinny AT&T-ready laptops and tablets
One of the bigger challenges of spreading LTE has been size; going 4G has tended to put on a little weight. A new Sierra Wireless embedded modem, the AirPrime EM7700, could be just the ticket to shedding those pounds. ASUS outs Thunderbolt-powered monitor, expansion card
ASUS has demonstrated its first Thunderbolt-based monitor at Computex. It is the first PC display to use the technology outside of Apple's display range suggesting that the new high-speed I/O standard is starting to gain momentum. The 27-inch screen using the connection was shown at the same time it revealed an adapter for ASUS 7-series motherboards that added the port as an extra connectivity option.

Die vergangenen Wochen beinhalteten neben Gerüchten rund um iOS und neues iPhone auch immer wieder Meldungen über die mögliche Vorstellung neuer iMacs, MacBook Pros und MacBook Airs. Wir werfen heute aber einen Blick zurück und schauen uns die Neuvorstellungen auf der WWDC der vergangenen Jahre an.
Der Name World Wide Developers Conference lässt zunächst vermuten, dass dort ausschließlich Dinge gezeigt werden, die für Entwickler interessant sind. Für die eigentlichen Events nach der Keynote zu Beginn der Konferenz ist dies auch der Fall. Doch wie die Vergangenheit zeigt, wird im Rahmen der Keynote nicht ausschließlich neue Hard- und Software vorgestellt, die für die Programmierer relevant ist.

Nanosys' eye-popping QDEF (Quantum Dot Enhancement Film) might be inching closer to a display near you. A new partnership with 3M aims to get the color-loving tech commercialized and into mainstream products. Consumer Cellular axes activation fees, retirees rejoice
Now here's a trend we can really get behind. Consumer Cellular, the "exclusive wireless provider for AARP members" (and a company that caters to the 50+ crowd), has announce that it will no longer be gouging charging its customers the dreaded activation fee. iOS 6: Abschied von Google Maps bringt Google keine großen Umsatzeinbußen
Mit dem Update auf iOS 6 wird Apple aller Voraussicht nach ein Stück Google aus dem eigenen Mobil-Betriebssystem verbannen – und statt Google Maps auf eine eigene Lösung setzen. Finanziell dürfte das Ganze für Google einem Analysten zu folge aber zu verkraften sein.
Der Piper-Jaffray-Analyst Gene Munster verweist zwar einerseits darauf, dass nach seiner Einschätzung Apples iOS 40 Prozent des Google-Mobil-Umsatzes ausmache. Im Jahr setze Google rund 4 Milliarden US-Dollar durch Suchanfragen, 500 Millionen Dollar durch eigentliche Werbeeinblendungen mit Mobilgeräten um.

iPad: Apple hebt Mengenbeschränkung für Einzelbestellungen auf
Wer nicht nur für sich selbst, sondern auch für andere ein iPad bestellen möchte, muss sich einschränken oder mehrere Bestellungen aufgeben: Apple erlaubt pro Bestellung nur zwei Geräte. We'll be honest: we originally made our way over to Jetway's booth here at Computex because we had heard scuttlebutt that a KIRF Samsung Galaxy Note was on display. Turns out, that wasn't true -- this thing doesn't even support pen input! -- but as it happens, Jetway had an interesting story to tell nonetheless. Jetway, based in Taiwan, has until now been designing motherboards, but is now releasing its first phone. What you see there is the Alfar 560, a reference design that various OEMs can rebadge under their own names. Based on the specs, it's clear that whatever brand picks this up, it's going to be a low-to-mid-range device: key specs include a 650MHz MTK6575 CPU, a 5.1-inch (800 x 480)

After seeing their app pulled from the App Store for violating unspecified Apple guidelines, Rogue Amoeba's Airfoil Speakers Touch returned earlier today, but missing the in-app purchase ability to receive audio directly from other iOS devices and iTunes. Ultimately, for reasons left unsaid, Apple decided that direct AirPlay receiving on iOS devices -- allowing either direct iOS-to-iOS device or iOS iTunes-to-iOS device streaming -- was not an option they would allow.

OnLive application delayed by Apple with no ETA
OnLive announced and demoed its streaming game service client for the iPad at last year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). According to OnLive representatives, the previously heavily-promoted application has yet to be approved by Apple for App Store distribution. Apple bids to cancel Samsung's Galaxy S III launch in US
Apple is attempting to preemptively stop the sales of the Samsung Galaxy S III phone in the United States. Tuesday night, Apple filed a motion in its ongoing litigation against Samsung asking for permission from Judge Lucy Koh to add the S III as another product violating unified search (Siri), and patents related to data-tapping in text messages and the browser, such as when a phone number appears on a text or web page and can be tapped to initiate a call. Apple states in the filing that "it is clear that infringement can be shown with respect to these patents based on the current record."
