Will podcasts receive a separate app in iOS 6?

Reports are abound that a section for podcasts is nowhere to be found in the latest beta version of iTunes for iOS 6. Given its beta status, it's easy to dismiss the exclusion as functionality that's yet to be baked in, but Peter Kafka of AllThingsD believes that Apple has something entirely different in mind. ABI: Apple and Samsung have over 55 percent of the smartphone space, 90 percent of its money-making

Skype 5.8 für Mac: Rückkehr der separaten Kontaktliste

Working Apple I sells for almost $375,000 at Sotheby's

A working Apple I computer has sold for $374,500 at a Friday Sotheby's auction, the BBC reports. The figure is over twice Sotheby's high estimate, and is the largest ever for an Apple I. Sotheby's comments that two parties ended up battling for the item: one through the auctioneer, acting on behalf of the absent collector, while the victor was a telephone bidder. Neither party has been identified publicly.

iPhone Dev-Team has jailbroken iOS 6 Beta

As always, the iPhone Dev Team didn't waste anytime trying to jailbreak Apple's iOS 6.0 beta release. Within a day or so of its announcement, the Dev Team released an iOS 6-compatible version of the redsn0w jailbreak tool for developers. The jailbreak works on limera1n-able devices like the iPod touch 4G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 (GSM) and iPhone 4 (CDMA). This is a tethered jailbreak and designed for developers who write jailbroken apps. Many core iOS components are broken and there is no Cydia in this release. Post-WWDC-Gerüchte: Retina MacBook Pro 13" schon im Oktober

Filed under: Tablet Manchen waren die Updates bei Apples MacBook Pro wohl nicht genug am Montag. Und schon jetzt gibt es von Ming-Chi Kuo, der auch das 15-Zoll Pro korrekt vorhergesagt hatte, den HInweis darauf, dass es im Oktober dann auch mit einem 13-Zoll Retina Display MacBook Pro weiter gehen wird. Auch hier wird erwartet, dass es kein optisches Laufwerk mehr gibt und eine Auflösung von 2560x1600 ist wahrscheinlich. Etwas dünner als sein 15-Zoll Pendant soll es selbstverständlich auch werden. Wer also noch warten möchte, die Hoffnung steigt, dass es nicht allzu lange dauert.

Chip suppliers stocking up for next-gen iPhone, report says

A number of chip makers have already started stocking parts intended to be used in production of Apple's next-generation iPhone, according to industry sources for DigiTimes. Qualcomm and Broadcom are said to be producing 4G and Wi-Fi chips using a 28nm process at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company. OmniVision is also said to be hunting for production at TSMC's 12-inch fab, contributing to limited production capacity. Mobilicity to upgrade network to HSPA+ 21Mbps later this year

Canadian AWS provider Mobilicity is moving up in this world -- up in speeds, at least. The carrier announced its intentions to upgrade its network to "4G" later this year, offering peak download speeds of 21Mbps. When we reached out for clarification, we were informed that Mobilicity is actually deploying HSPA+ 21Mbps: according to a spokesperson, it "will leverage the full capabilities of our HSPA+ network." It's a hefty improvement over its current 7.2Mbps status, but the usual "4G or faux-G" argument still applies here. Lawyer Perminder S. Tung, a resident of Surrey, British Columbia, has filed a lawsuit against Apple Canada for the demise of his nearly three-year-old Time Capsule. Videos surfaced last week of a BlackBerry PlayBook running iOS applications inside a emulator. The first, heavily edited, video (seen below) showed the user playing a handful of iOS specific game titles, such as Tiny Tower, Super Monkey Ball, and GalCon inside of the player. After a few days of public skepticism, the developer responded to requests and showed a few more applications running, with app interactions specified by critics. Baidu, Apple to share revenue on iPhone search

We've reported on how Apple is encouraging development in the Chinese market, and it's not going to be without financial reward for services over there. Bloomberg reports that Apple and Baidu, the Chinese search engine, will be sharing advertising revenue. Baidu said it's similar to contracts established with Google for its Android operating system. New Foxconn worker commits suicide, first in 2012

Foxconn has reported the death of another worker due to suicide, the first such incident in 2012. The death is being investigated by authorities, as the 23-year-old worker had only just joined the company within the last month and may have been suicidal prior to working for Foxconn. The Chinese manufacturing conglomerate suffered a rash of suicides in 2010, but has seen steadily fewer following rounds of reforms.
