RIM may cut 2,000-plus jobs within two weeks

RIM's current chief Thorsten Heins has had to make some tough decisions in the first few months of his tenure -- and he could be making some particularly difficult choices about trimming the rank and file within the next two weeks. Das mit InstCRT aufgenommene Bild erscheint bei den Entwicklern in Stockholm auf einem klitzekleinen Bildschirm und wird dort von einer DSLR abgelichtet. Der Retrofilter-Effekt entsteht ganz ohne Software-Tricks. Noch vor einigen Stunden war das Foto innerhalb weniger Minuten zurück auf dem Phone, mittlerweile aber heißt es Schlange stehen. WordPress for iOS app jumps to 3.0, adds push notifications

WordPress developer Automattic has updated its iOS WordPress app to version 3.0 (free), bringing support for push notifications as well as a moderation toolbar for comments activated by swiping over any item. The update is said to "vastly" improve performance, particularly on iPads, and language support for Taiwanese, Hungarian and Polish has been added. Da sieht man gleich mehrere Dinge. 1. Wie überflüssig Analysten sind. Eigentlich sind sie nichts anderes als die legitimen Nachfolger derer die vor hunderten von Jahren über die Jahrmärkte und Volksfeste durch die Lande zogen um sich als Wahrsager und Hellseher zu verdingen. Letztere hat man jedoch gern mal geteert und gefedert wenn ihre Vorhersagen nicht eintrafen und man ihrer noch Habhaft werden konnte. 2. Die "Märkte" oder genauer die Marktteilnehmer sind hypernervös, so das selbst Kleinigkeiten Kursveränderungen auslösen können, selbst wenn diese auf Spekulationen beruhen. 3. Apple ist eine Firma wie jede andere auch. Es gibt immer Up- und Down-Bewegungen. Was am Ende zählt ist das Produkt und sein Erfolg.

Und weiter sieht man daran auch, dass diese Marktteilnehmer, die oft nur noch aus Rechnern bestehen, vollkommen verblödet sind ("Spliff": "Computer sind doof") und die "Märkte" mit der Realität schon lange nichts mehr zu tun haben. Schade, dass heutzutage diesen Märkten soviel Aufmerksamkeit geschenkt wird. Man sollte auf der ganzen Welt sie mal einen Monat lang in allen Medien etc. einfach ignorieren.

Numerous reports claim that the Learning Thermostat from Nest will be available at Apple retail stores shortly. Sotheby to auction Jobs Atari memo, Apple I motherboard

Auction house Sotheby's will be selling two bits of history soon -- one strongly related to Apple, the other less so -- both tied to the late Steve Jobs. We spotted the dudes behind the ZBoard at TechCrunch Disrupt earlier this week, but we weren't content to just ride the electric skateboard up and down the halls of Pier 94.
