NuForce releases 2" Cube portable speaker
NuForce has released its Cube mobile speaker. Sony Xperia Ion hits FCC with AT&T LTE intact
The wait for the Sony Xperia Ion in the US has been a long one, but that summer release feels considerably closer now that the Android flagship has swung by the FCC. As we'd hope, the Ion is passing through in full AT&T regalia, carrying the 700MHz and 1,700MHz 4G LTE bands it needs to run on Big Blue -- albeit with a legacy Sony Ericsson label. RIM warns of loss for Q1, hires JP Morgan and RBC Capital Markets to help with strategic review
RIM announced last quarter that it would no longer be providing its traditional financial guidance for upcoming quarters, but CEO Thorsten Heins has nonetheless seen fit to deliver a "business update" today that offers some indication of what it's store for the company. French court rules Google isn't liable for YouTube bootlegs of TF1 TV shows
France typically hasn't been kind to Google. Today, though, it's cutting some important slack. A court has ruled that the search firm can't be held liable when YouTube members upload clips of their favorite football matches or movies from local network TF1. As in a case involving Dailymotion last year, the judge saw YouTube as just the host for others' videos rather than having any hand in producing the content itself. Dell begins test deployment of ARM-based Copper servers
Back in February, Dell revealed its intentions to enter the ARM server field. Today, the company announced that it is shipping ARM-based Copper servers to a limited number of customers. Copper is lower power than x86 servers, and Dell thinks this makes it a good fit for energy-intensive platforms such as Hadoop. In that same vein, the company views Copper as a cost-effective option that can be used for light workloads and for testing performance. Das neue iPhone: Vermeintliche Bauteile zeigen neues Design
9to5Mac präsentiert gleich einen ganzen Stapel an Fotos von vermeintlichen Bauteilen der kommende iPhone-Generation. Passend zu bereits zuvor kursierenden Gerüchten deuten diese Fotos auf einen größeren bzw. längeren Touchscreen hin.
Sollte es sich bei diesen Bauteilen um echte Gehäuse handeln, könnte Apple bei der 6. iPhone-Generation wohl erstmals das Seitenverhältnis des iPhone-Touchscreens ändern. Separate leaks claim to show new iPhone's back, ports
Two separate websites say they have obtained photos of the body of the next-generation iPhone. Images supplied to Boy Genius Report come from a repair company, uBreakiFix, and show a back combining metal and glass with decorative trim. Five Square: solid game bones, evolving interface
I'm a bit of a solitaire aficionado. I like slow, thoughtful games that allow me to solve puzzles rather than just breeze through a mindless pattern of repetitious game play. Five Square is a solid puzzle. It is, as the author himself puts it, "a [really] hard game." And, despite some qualms about basic quality, it's fun to play.
Let me be brutally honest here -- as I was with the game developer himself -- there's a lot of room for improvement with the game. I hated the sounds, I mean really really hated them. The GUI needs tweaks, the instructions need rewriting, and the play options should be re-evaluated by adding a "reset" button to let you start the level over again.
That said, it's a pretty cool game, so I agreed to

Amidst all of Sprint's eagerness to phase out its iDEN network, the carrier hasn't given us a hard cutoff date to mark on our calendars until now. Apple sets time for WWDC '12 keynote, unveils app, schedule
Apple has announced that the keynote for WWDC 2012 will take place 10AM Pacific time on the beginning day of the conference, June 11th. No other information has been revealed about the presentation, including even who will speak. It's generally expected, however, that it will be led by CEO Tim Cook, and offer more details about OS X Mountain Lion and iOS 6. The company could potentially debut Macs equipped with Retina displays.

The few, the proud, the folks who are going to WWDC now have an idea of what sessions they can attend at this year's Apple Developer's Conference. The official schedule went live this morning, as well as an attendee guide for first-time lucky winners of the golden tickets.
There's even a free official WWDC app (universal) available on the App Store. That app won't do you any good if you're not attending WWDC 2012. The splash screen requires an Apple ID and attendee password, so the simply curious won't be able to see what'd going on at what time.

Marketcircle's Daylite is a popular business productivity management application for both the Mac and iOS. After spending some time on its mobile apps, the company is back with a new version of Daylite for the Mac.
According to its announcement blog post, Daylite 4 is a complete overhaul of the app to include those features customers felt were most important. 440 ppi: LG bringt 5-Zoll-Display mit 1920 x 1080 Pixeln

Gerüchteweise hat LG ja ein Superphone mit 4,67"-LCD-Display und einer Auflösung von 1280 x 768 in der Pipe, aber die Koreaner können auch noch viel schärfer: LG hat gerade ganz offiziell ein 5-Zoll-Display mit 1920 x 1080 Pixeln vorgestellt, was dann echtes 1080p auf denkbar kompakter 16:9-Fläche bedeutet. Denn aus 1920 x 1080 Pixeln auf 5 Zoll resultiert 440 ppi, während Apples Retina Display nur auf lausige 326 ppi kommt. Der Serienlogik entsprechend dürfte diesem Geek-Zeitvertreib dann bald Volume 2.0 mit Laptop-Prozessoren folgen, aber da weiß man noch nichts genaues. Im März hat uns Sound-App-Entwickler Amidio mit einem iOS-Ukulele-Synth namens Futulele erfreut, der seine ganze Pracht entfaltet, wenn ein iPad zum Anschlagen der Saiten und ein iPhone zum Greifen der Akkorde benutzt wird. Jetzt gibt´s das Ding für 5 Dollar im App Store, allerdings nur in der abgespeckten Version nur fürs iPad. Dabei wird die Akkordwahl über ein kleines Menu absolviert, mit dem man auch Chorus, Delay, EQ und Reverb einstellen kann. Bei der Auktionsplattform eBay wurde der “Beweis” für die Existenz eines zweiten Dock-Anschlusses am iPad versteigert. Ein Prototyp des Apple-Tablets mit zwei Anschlüssen kam unter den Hammer und ging für 10&nbap;200 US-Dollar an einen neuen Besitzer. Apple iPad prototype with dual charging docks listed on eBay
From time to time, Apple prototype devices will make their way to eBay. Usually, they're iterations of the device's final design, but this latest one to hit the auction site is really different - it's an iPad with two dock connectors.
As noted by MacRumors, the tablet device includes a standard portrait connector and a second one for charging in landscape. Both ports work for charging and syncing the iPad. It's also running Apple's test software SwitchBoard and has several other markings that suggest it is legitimate.

Auf Ebay US ist ein Prototyp des ersten iPads mit 16 GB, WiFi und einem zusätzlichen Dock Connector auf der Längsseite aufgetaucht. Erstaunlicherweise läuft sie noch immer und wurde bisher von Apple nicht beanstandet. Neben den zwei funktionierenden Dock Connectors kommt das iPad mit Apples Testsoftware SwitchBoard, der Touchscreen soll allerdings nicht mehr vollständig funktionieren. Smart Pebble robots replicate objects the way a good hive mind should (video)

For now, let's just shift focus to the immediate and soak in this novel feat of robo-replication engineered by a team from M.I.T. Headed up by Professor Daniela Rus, the Smart Sand project looks nothing like it sounds and that's because the tech in question is currently more cube than grain.
