Atari and Zynga team up to reboot Breakout in 'Super Bunny Breakout' on iOS
Atari may be little more than a vestige of its former self, but that isn't stopping the publisher from crafting new versions of its classic games. Curio 8 gets overhauled interface and engine, new features
Developer Zengobi has launched Curio 8, a new version of its OS X planning software. The app handles tasks such as mind-mapping, notetaking, and task management. The v8 upgrade is said to represent a massive overhaul, with a redesigned interface, and a new engine tailored to Lion and Mountain Lion. On the MacBook Pro, the software now supports Retina-level graphics.

Google announces simplified Zagat ratings, launches new application for Android

iPod nano 7G: Apple veröffentlicht Firmware 1.0.1
Der iPod nano der 7. Generation ist bei den meisten Käufern noch gar nicht eingetroffen und schon veröffentlicht Apple bereits das erste Firmware-Update. Was sich allerdings konkret zur ursprünglichen Firmware-Version geändert hat, verrät Apple nicht.
Wie iLounge berichtet, wird das Update wie gewohnt beim Verbinden mit dem Mac oder PC direkt in iTunes angezeigt. Wird das Update nicht automatisch angezeigt, kann man auch manuell über die Geräteübersicht in iTunes nach der Aktualisierung suchen.

South Korea delays ban on iPads and iPhones until Apple can appeal
Apple and Samsung have been recreating the Cold War through their own mutually assured destruction policy, and nowhere is that more apparent than their Pyrrhic victories in South Korea. For Apple, however, the pain will be just a little easier to bear. Apple wins delay on Korean ban of iPhones, iPads
A Seoul court has granted an Apple motion to delay a sales ban that would prevent some iPhones and iPads from being sold in South Korea, Bloomberg reports. The decision is actually said to have been made last month, but went largely unnoticed. Samsung, meanwhile, hasn't yet attempted to fight a connected ban on some of its Galaxy devices.

Apple patent filing hints at fingerprint tech possibilities
A newly-published patent application hints at what Apple might have in store for its upcoming fingerprint recognition technology. The proposed concept would hide a fingerprint scanner -- or another form of biometric sensor -- in the screen or bezel of a device, only revealing it when necessary by changing the opacity of a window. Appeals court reverses ban on Samsung Galaxy Nexus
A U.S. Court of Appeals says that a lower California court "abused its discretion" by ordering a sales ban of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and kicked the case back to the lower court, Reuters reports. The injunction, ordered by Judge Lucy Koh, came about in the days before Samsung and Apple went to trial in California. Samsung filed an appeal two days after the injunction was ordered.

Appeals court reverses Galaxy Nexus sales ban
A US appeals court has overturned a preliminary injunction that placed a sales ban on Samsung's Galaxy Nexus smartphone. The case will now return to a California court for reconsideration. Apple initially won an injunction against the Galaxy Nexus in June of this year, but today's ruling found that Judge Lucy Koh's court had "abused its discretion" during its decision on the injunction.

Amazon extending Kindle Owners' Lending Library to the UK, Germany and France this month
Amazon's Kindle Owners' Lending Library has grown considerably since launching in the US, and it looks like the company's finally decided it was time to let some other countries in on the service as well. It announced today that Amazon Prime members in the UK, Germany and France would all have access to the service "later this month," although it's not providing a specific date just yet. As in the US, it will let folks borrow up to one book a month for free, with over 200,000 titles available to choose from (including "thousands" in the countries' local languages). Targeted ads present you with advertising keyed to your interests and history. If you're an Amazon customer, you've likely received emails related to your recent browsing choices. Gmail ads are based on your Google account contents. Apple is no different. iAds tracks you and offers ads that best match your profile.

13-inch MacBook Pro allegedly slowed by Retina yields
Trouble with manufacturing Retina displays is hampering the introduction of a new 13-inch MacBook Pro, claims DigiTimes. Shipments of the computer are said to have been slated for September, but "weak yields" of Retina screens allegedly pushed them into October. Production problems are also reportedly affecting two other products, namely a new iMac and a 7.85-inch iPad, more commonly nicknamed the iPad mini. iPad, iPhone sales ban delayed in South Korea
Someone at Samsung must be getting very frustrated right now. Apple was facing a ban on sales of the iPhone and iPad in South Korea after a court found that those devices infringed on patents owned by Samsung. Now a Seoul court has ruled that Apple can keep the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad and iPad 2 on store shelves at least until the appeals process has been completed.
On the other hand, Samsung's Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy Tab 10.1, Galaxy S and Galaxy S II -- all of which are also covered by the August 24 ruling -- are still on the ban

Android 4.1.2 Firmware-Images erhältlich
Nachdem Google gestern damit begonnen hat, Android 4.1.2 zunächst nur für das Nexus 7 per OTA-Update zu veröffentlichen, mussten Nutzer von anderen Nexus-Geräten, wie zum Beispiel dem Galaxy Nexus, vorerst auf das Update warten. iPod touch teardown shows 512MB of RAM, cheaper display
A teardown of the fifth-generation iPod touch reveals some key differences with the iPhone 5, with which it nominally shares a lot of similarities, according to repair outfit iFixit. The Touch has just 512MB of Hynix RAM, for instance, versus the 1GB of RAM in the iPhone. While both devices use a 4-inch Retina display, the Touch component is described as a "much simpler, cheaper design." The new Touch also uses a Home button with a rubber membrane, said to be inferior to the redesigned button in the iPhone 5.

Google Chrome browser users hit by Bad Piggies malware
Over 80,000 Google Chrome browser users have been hit by a fake, malware infected, version of Rovioís Bad Piggies that is attracting users because it is free. The malware was detected by Barracuda Labs who warned users about a free web-based version of the game found on the official Google Chrome web store that carries the title Angry Birds Bad Piggies. According to Barracuda Labs, the app installs an ad injector that replaces original ads on sites including Yahoo, MSN and others, instead promoting other products.

Survey: 74 percent of iOS users say Maps is fine, no issues
A survey by an SEO ranking provider for small businesses has turned up a surprising level of satisfaction with Apple's Maps in iOS 6 and suggests further that, at least within the US, the media reporting on the topic may be overblown. While Apple itself and many others have noted genuine problems with the data found in Maps, especially right after launch, many in North America (particularly those using the driving directions) have a better experience. Schmidt: iOS versus Android the industry's defining fight
In an interview with hosts Walt Mossbert and Kara Swisher for All Things D, Google Chariman Eric Schmidt called the market battle between iOS devices and the Android operating system "the defining fight in the industry today." He also called the ongoing smartphone patent wars "death," and that they were having a larger impact on small companies than large companies like Apple, Google, and Samsung.

Kindle Fire HD 4G approved for sale by the FCC
According to an Amazon spokeswoman, the online retailer has received approval from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to sell the 4G version of the Kindle Fire. The 8.9-inch tablet was unveiled last month, but the devices had not yet received FCC clearance, and was required to run disclaimers on web pages and emails promoting the product.

30-pin to Lightning adapter: early users test compatibility
We got a message from developer David Stanfill this morning, who's had an opportunity to start using Apple's 30-pin to Lightning connector. As early pre-orders are just now arriving, we were curious as to how things were working.
"I can confirm," he writes, "That the 30-pin to lightning cable works with none of the previous Apple Accessories. I tested the SD card reader, USB reader, VGA/HDMI out adapter, and the Withings Blood Pressure monitor. We're one for three for car stereos at the office."

Software maker Boinx has brought out a milestone release of its flagship slideshow creator, FotoMagico 4. Office for iOS revealed, promptly denied by Microsoft
Following the remarks from a Czech Microsoft executive claiming imminent availability of Microsoft Office for iOS and Android in March 2013, Microsoft representatives in the US are denying the revealed release dates. Microsoft spokesman Frank X. Shaw publicly disowned the report, saying in a tweet that "the information shared by our Czech Republic subsidiary is not accurate. We have nothing further to share."

Kobo acquires Mac developer Aquafadas
The news that e-reader company Kobo bought Aquafadas, a French-based developer known for its digital-publishing software, normally wouldn't make the radar of many Mac users. But Aquafadas is known to the Mac community as the brains behind MotionComposer, BannerZest, SnapFlow, iDive, VideoPier, PulpMotion and more. It also developed the tech behind MacTech's iPad app.
While Kobo will be utilizing Aquafadas' publishing system to bolster its e-reader and platform, there is no word yet on the fate of its Mac apps.

Motorola files to seal Samsung negotiations used as evidence
Motorola Mobility has asked Magistrate Judge Paul Grewal of the US District Court for the Northern District of California to seal "highly confidential" records of patent negotiations with Samsung. The summary of a licensing negotiation between Motorola and Samsung in 2000 was used in the Apple versus Samsung trial held in August to defend Samsung witnesses against Apple deposition.

Seasonality Core is an excellent weather application for OS X. It has lots of detailed information that's in a unique and customizable format. We took a look at an earlier version of the program about a year ago and had good things to say about it.

Verizon-bound Nokia Lumia 822 surfaces in leaked photos
We caught a glimpse of a Verizon-branded Windows Phone 8 handset by the name of Atlas in a leaked image yesterday, and now new photos give us a closer look at the smartphone. Daily iPhone App: 5K Runmeter impresses with options and functionality

Motorola versus Microsoft FRAND dismissal motion denied
Ruling on a July filing by Motorola, Federal Judge James L Robart of the Western District of Washington, presiding over the Microsoft versus Motorola fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory (FRAND) dispute, denied Motorola's motion for a partial summary judgement dismissing Microsoft's request that the court create a license agreement for Motorola's standard patents. Apple grows US market share, but shipments down for quarter
Apple continues to gain market share in the United States, but the company saw shipments of its PCs decline in the third quarter due to a slowdown in overall consumption. This according to Gartner, which published its analysis of the global and US PC markets for the third quarter of 2012. Gartner's report found declines among most of the major US PC suppliers, with only Lenovo shipping more units this quarter than it did in the same quarter last year.

iPad, iPhone usage grows among US teens
Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster is back at it with another survey looking at Apple ownership. As reported by MacRumors, this latest report focuses on US teenagers and asks 7,700 of them about their gadget-buying habits. Not surprisingly, the iPhone and iPad are growing in popularity among consumers in this age group.
The report shows that 40 percent of the teenage respondents currently own an iPhone, up from 34 percent in spring 2012. Of those who are planning to buy a new phone, 62 percent say they plan to buy an iPhone.
