Deutsche Preise und Bestellmöglichkeiten Das iPhone lässt sich ab Freitag früh um 9 Uhr vorbestellen. Im Apple Store ist es auch ohne Mobilfunkvertrag erhältlich. Allerdings soll es dort aktuell mindestens 899 € kosten (siehe Bild oben) - was darauf hinweisen könnte, dass anfangs nur das 64-GB-Spitzenmodell lieferbar ist.

Isis' NFC mobile payments delayed past September target
Isis must have spoken too soon. Just days after the alliance committed to launching its mobile payment system in September, its marketing lead Jaymee Johnson has warned FierceMobileContent that the rollout won't make the promised summer target. Arqball modeling app now works almost anywhere
A while ago, we covered the Arqball Spin, a special stage which, when used with an app, allowed anyone to create a 3D model of any object by rotating your iPhone's camera around it a few times. Back then, the whole thing was more idea than actual product, because you needed a special setup (so your iPhone could line up and see what you were modeling at exactly the right angle). Fujifilm sees which way wind is blowing, ends production of cinema film
Since your average talkie is now recorded onto SD card and SSDs, companies that produce old-timey film are feeling the squeeze. As such, and despite its own efforts, Fujifilm is shuttering a large part of its cinema business by March 2013. No wideband audio on Sprint iPhone 5, carrier says
The iPhone 5's wideband audio support won't extend to Sprint, spokesperson Michelle Leff tells Phone Scoop. Wideband audio is better known as HD Voice, and delivers clearer call quality. Sprint's implementation of HD Voice is carried over CDMA 1x Advanced, however, whereas most carriers are supporting it through WCDMA.

Nintendo sees next opportunity for Wii success in Latin America, Eastern Europe
"We will continue to sell the Wii," Nintendo America president and CEO Reggie Fils-Aime told investors today in a Q&A followup to the company's big Wii U event in New York City. "In the US, the Wii has sold about 40 million units. We believe that there continues to be an opportunity with the Wii." However, where Fils-Aime sees the most opportunity may not be where you expect. "I'm responsible for Canada, and Latin America as well," he said. "We think there's opportunity in both of those markets, especially Latin America." The Wii is currently offered by Nintendo in North America, Asia, Australia, and Europe, but not Latin America. The Wii ranges from $140 to $250, depending on what it comes with.

With the iPhone 5 on the way and as AT&T wobbles about FaceTime, many of our US-based readers are thinking about upgrades and carrier changes. Verizon has stated FaceTime will work across its plans.

Apple wins preliminary sales ban on Motorola phones, tablets in Germany
Apple was handed good news by a German court. The regional court of Munich has ruled that Motorola has infringed on a touchscreen patent held by Apple. The patent in question describes the "overscroll bounce" and "rubber band effect" that's such a recognizable aspect of the iPhone OS.
The court identified the Motorola Milestone XT720, the Motorola DEFY, the Motorola Atrix and the Motorola XOOM as infringing devices.

Could this be Apple's solution to the iPhone letterboxing issue?
As things stand, empty voids at the top and bottom of the iPhone's display come as standard with every widescreen video you might care to watch -- a problem that will continue with the iPhone 5, since that phone's elongated panel still isn't quite 16:9. Sprint announces Samsung Galaxy Victory 4G LTE, available September 16th for $100
Samsung's got a new Galaxy in town, and it's the Victory 4G LTE on Sprint. Available on the Now Network this upcoming Sunday, the device packs Android 4.0 (ICS), a 4-inch display (presumably WVGA), 1.2GHz dual-core processor, Google Wallet and a 5 megapixel camera paired up with a 1.3MP front-facing cam. It also throws in a few features seen on the Galaxy S III, such as S Beam and AllShare Play. The price? $100, after a $50 mail-in rebate. Use the Xbox 360 controller on your Mac
TUAW reader Jon emailed in the other day to ask about possible game controllers for Mac, and while we've covered this issue before, it has definitely been a while. In short, the best way to use a game controller with your Mac is just to use one of the better controllers out there: the wired version of Microsoft's Xbox 360 controller (or, if you wish, any compatible third-party version). The port on it is just a standard USB, so it should plug right into your Mac. C Spire, others join list of US iPhone 5 carriers
Several more US carriers have announced plans to support the iPhone 5. Chief among these is C Spire Wireless, which was the first regional carrier in the US to get the device. The other companies stepping forward are also regionals, namely Appalachian Wireless, Bluegrass Cellular, Cellcom, and GCI. In each case the carriers will only launch the new iPhone on September 28th, a week after AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon.

Apple officially discontinues iPhone 3GS
Apple is officially discontinuing the iPhone 3GS, a spokesperson tells AllThingsD. The move was expected after the introduction of the iPhone 5, which has also seen the iPhone 4 and 4S shift to lower and middle tiers. With the phone no longer on sale, Apple is also likely to taper off support.

Weather Live for iOS is complete and a looker
Weather apps often sit in one of two groups. A lot of data in a mundane presentation, or beautiful backgrounds and animations but a lack of deep weather data.
Weather Live has an excellent mix of both. The US$1.99 universal app has detailed forecasts from anywhere in the world. You can set several cities you want to keep track of, and swipe the screen to view them. Animations reflect the current weather at each location, and the app includes cloud, satellite and radar maps. The app can alert you if bad weather that is on the way, and you can set an alert to let you know when the temperature drops below freezing.

The struggling economy is finally hitting the video game industry, and hard. EA is preparing to undertake some rather drastic cost-cutting measures, including laying off 1,000 workers. That number represents 10 percent of its total employees, a large enough chunk that several titles and franchises will be getting the ax as well. To further slash costs, EA will be closing at least nine facilities across the globe and condense its teams into fewer offices. eBay straightens out its logo after 17 years
A lot has changed on the internet over the last 17 years, but one of the small constants has been eBay's decidedly 90s logo, which has remained colorful and off-kilter as others have shifted with the trends. Now, after all these years, it's finally making a clean break (mostly). New Apple Lightning connectors may omit video-out support
The new Lightning connector used on Apple devices like the iPhone 5 doesn't support video-out, Apple's website suggests. Product pages for the company's Lightning-to-30-pin adapters state that "Video and iPod Out" aren't supported, even though the 30-pin products they attach to should be capable. It's unclear, though, if direct and/or Lightning-to-USB connections to peripherals will support video, or if Apple might be preparing a Lightning-to-HDMI adapter.

iPhone developers discuss the iPhone 5's larger screen
Since its debut, the iPhone's screen size has remained the same. It's gained pixels, sure, but the dimensions have long been a selling point as "standard" across the line. As Apple has extended iOS updates downstream, this has also become a powerful selling point for iPhone "feature" phones. Formerly that was the 3GS, but the 4 is now becoming free on contract in some cases.
The iPhone 5 now has a larger screen. Older apps will run in letterbox mode, but as someone who worked at Blockbuster Video back in the 90s, I can tell you consumers don't "get" letterboxing. Consumers will expect developers to just make it look right. Probably using magic.

Nintendo TVii supported by 'all' major US and Canadian cable companies, dish services
Nintendo TVii will support "all" cable and dish carriers in the US and Canada, Nintendo director of strategic partnership Zach Fountain told Engadget this afternoon. He said that no major carriers are excluded, and the only requirement for signing up is inputting your cable company's account information to the Wii U. The struggling economy is finally hitting the video game industry, and hard. EA is preparing to undertake some rather drastic cost-cutting measures, including laying off 1,000 workers. Verizon to permit cellular FaceTime across all plans for iPhone 5

Nintendo Wii U expandable memory explained, TiVO hardware not built in
The Nintendo Wii U may only have 8 to 32GB of internal memory, but the company's taking a decidedly open approach to expanding that memory: add your own. "You can plug in a full-on three terabyte hard drive if you want. Germany grants Apple right to injunction against Motorola
A court in Munich has granted Apple the right to an injunction against Motorola products, reports say. The ruling follows a five-week delay; if the injunction isn't successfully appealed, it will see some Motorola phones and tablets banned in Germany. At the heart of the dispute is the "rubber-banding" element in many phone and tablet interfaces, which makes a page spring back after reaching the end of a page. Apple has argued that Motorola's implementation of the concept in Android violates a patent.

Roomba 581 - Taugt das was? Ein Tagebuch.
Wer wie wir mindestens elf Stunden pro Tag außer Haus ist, sich mit Sport, Sprachen lernen, Ausbildung und den notwendigen Einkäufen beschäftigen muss, der sieht sich Zuhause vor ein Problem gestellt: Irgendwer muss die Hausarbeit machen. Im Laufe der Jahre haben deshalb Waschmaschine, Wäschetrockner und Geschirrspüler Einzug gefunden. Was weiterhin fehlt sind Maschinen, die Schränke mit den sauberen Materalien befüllen und - natürlich - automatische Staubsauger. So hat es dann auch ein Roomba 581 in den Haushalt geschafft. Die Idee: Einmal täglich saugt er alle Räume am Stück durch. Theoretisch kann er das: Kleine, aufstellbare Türmchen erlauben oder verbieten ihm den Zugang in Räume und leiten ihn zu seiner Basis zurück. Klappt das?
Die Inbetriebnahme ist kinderleicht: Roomba, Schlafplatz und Netzteil auspacken, den Schlafplatz an eine geeignete Stelle legen, Strom anschließen und den Roomba raufstellen. Er schläft dann die Nacht über und trinkt. Der Mensch kann sich die Zeit mit dem Befüllen der

Roomba - Tag 3
Wie eingestellt startet der Roomba um 7:30 - und vergnügt sich 40 Minuten lang unter den beiden Kleiderschränken. Er fährt heraus, außen rum, wieder rein, unten durch, wieder raus, dreht sich, fährt wieder rein, traut sich 50cm vom Schrank weg, nur um dann wieder umzukehren. Gibt es dort Bonbons oder einen Zugang in unbekannte Welten? Sollte ich dort auch einmal hinunter kriechen? Nach 40 Minuten hat er genug, fährt er zu seiner Station und schläft ein. Also drücke ich noch einmal auf den Clean-Knopf. Der Roomba reinigt diesmal den gesamten Raum und legt sich danach schlafen. In den Flur ist er auch diesmal nicht gefahren. So war das eigentlich nicht gedacht. Das mit den Türmchen ist nämlich doch nicht so simpel.

Roomba - Tag 4
Der Roomba saugt das Büro, fährt aber anschließend nicht in den Flur, sondern wieder auf seinen Schlafplatz. Ich ziehe ihn in das Wohnzimmer um. Der Versuch, die Ladestation unter dem Sofa zu verstecken scheitert leider, da das Sofa ein ganz klein wenig zu flach ist, als dass der Roomba seine Station finden würde. Also stelle ich die Station in den Flur. Der wird optisch schon durch die FritzBox verschandelt, sodass ein Roomba da auch nicht mehr viel kaputt macht. Die Reichweite aller Türmchen stelle ich auf das Minimum ein, in der Hoffnung, dass sich damit die Strahlen nicht kreuzen. Als Ergebnis saugt er den Flug und fährt danach in die Küche. Erstmals! Also lasse ich ihn arbeiten und verlasse die Wohnung, in der Hoffnung, dass er Abends in seiner Ladestation schläft und nicht irgendwo im Raum verdurstet ist.

When Nintendo's Wii U launches this November in the US and EU, it's bringing "more than 50" launch window games -- what that "launch window" means, exactly, is another question altogether. Nintendo's leading the lineup with a variety of its own games, though publishers Activision and Ubisoft are certainly leading the charge in terms of sheer number of games. The Panorama feature announced for the iPhone 5 will also work on other devices, Apple has indicated. Apple posts list of iOS 6 feature availability by region
In order to limit customer confusion or misunderstanding, Apple has posted a list detailing the international regional availability of certain features of iOS 6. Certain functions like Siri, the new Maps app with 3D Flyovers and turn-by-turn navigation are not available in all locations where the new iPhone 5 will be sold. With Apple dropping Google Maps, it has had to sign numerous international agreements with map suppliers, where available, in order to gradually add 3D and navigational functions, in particular.

Cricket sets iPhone 5 date; AT&T, Sprint, Verizon plans
Cricket has announced that it will start selling the iPhone 5 on September 28th. That makes it the first US prepaid carrier to say it will get the phone, although it will get the hardware a full week after national post-paid iPhone carriers AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon. Cricket hasn't provided any other information, but will likely use the same pricing scheme it did for the iPhone 4S, charging $500 for a 16GB phone plus a $55 monthly fee for unlimited service. There is no word yet on when other US prepaids, namely Virgin Mobile, will get the 5.

Sprint, Verizon repeat aims to allow FaceTime on all tiers
Sprint and Verizon are repeating earlier statements that unlike AT&T, their subscribers will be able to use FaceTime over cellular without upgrading plans. AT&T is forcing users to move to more expensive shared data plans if they want 3G/4G FaceTime, in spite of similar apps being unrestricted. The difference may be that FaceTime is integrated into iOS, making it more easy to access and thus more likely to consume bandwidth.

EV-Konzept CliQ soll ein Land Rover sein, erfeut durch fahruntüchtige Optik
Der Autodesigner Thomas Gilbert hat ein Konzept für ein kompaktes Land-Rover-Elektroauto ausgetüftelt, wobei uns zwar etwas schleierhaft ist, was der Entwurf namens CliQ mit dem Rest der Marke zu tun hat, aber das tut der Originalität keinen Abbruch: Zunächst sieht CliQ durch die markante Reifengestaltung ziemlich fahruntüchtig aus, aber das Vehikel ist auch clever modular konzipiert, um vielseitig einsetzbar zu sein, aber auch damit es möglichst lange genutzt wird, weil das ja wiederum gut für die Öko-Bilanz ist - was ein Autohersteller von dieser Idee hält, steht wiederum auf einem anderen Blatt.

Offensichtlich um die Vorgabe der Europäischen Union zu erfüllen, nach der Handys mittels microUSB-Stecker geladen werden können müssen, hat Apple einen Adapter für seinen just vorgestellten, proprietären Lightning-Connector im Angebot - derzeit aber nur in seinen europäischen Shops. Eolas Technologies and the Regents of the University of California are suing Facebook, Wal-Mart, and Walt Disney Company over interactive technology patents. The patents, including hypermedia display and interaction were issued to the university and licensed to the Texas-based Eolas, chaired by Michael Doyle. Just hours after the announcement of the new iPhone, a multitude of iDevice accessory makers have announced new covers for Apple's longer, thinner smartphone. The new cases cover a range of prices, colors, and functionality. Most are expected to launch along with the iPhone 5, and many are currently available for pre-order.

Kodak lays off 1000 more workers, two senior executives
Bankrupt Eastman Kodak has announced its intention to lay off 1,000 more workers by the end of the year, and more job losses may be necessary to stay afloat. Kodak's workforce has fallen to approximately 14,700 from a peak of 145,000 thirty years ago. Additionally, two members of upper management have departed the company as a result of restructuring forced by the continued Chapter 11 protections. Final results from its patent auction are expected at a September 19 final hearing.

Apple posts streaming QuickTime video of iPhone 5 keynote
Apple has posted a streaming version of today's iPhone 5 and iPod rollout held in the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco this morning. The video, which runs just under two hours, features CEO Tim Cook and an array of senior Apple executives announcing and demonstrating the new products along with revealing the release date of iOS 6, the next major upgrade for most iOS devices, which is now planned for September 19.

Apple to close iTunes service Ping on September 30
After CEO Tim Cook admitting that music-based social network Ping had been one of Apple's occasional missteps, saying "I think the customer voted" on it and that Apple doesn't need its own social network, Apple has begun notifying users that Ping will no longer be available as of September 30 and is not accepting any new members. The two-year-old service, built into iTunes, gained millions of accounts when first introduced, but had issues with a failed plan to incorporate Facebook likes and sharing and faltered shortly afterwards.

For all of Apple's infamous secrecy, the company couldn't mask the arrival of the next iPhone. As expected, the big number five was the centerpiece of today's festivities in San Francisco, and Tim Cook and gang certainly had plenty of nice things to say about the latest harbinger of iOS. Panorama feature not just an iPhone 5 exclusive
As an iPhone 4S owner, I was kind of eyeing that new Panorama feature mentioned in today's keynote, thinking it was an iPhone 5-only innovation.
Not true. Apple has confirmed the feature is part of iOS 6 and will work just fine on my 4S, as well as the 5th generation iPod touch. That's great news. There have been some other excellent panorama apps for the iPhone, but I'm willing to bet Apple's version will be easy to use and slick.
According to Apple, you can cover a 240 degree field of view, moving the camera in a horizontal direction. Apple says you can output a file that is 28 megabytes. Thanks Apple. You've given my 4S a new lease on lif

Ping to bow out on September 30
Farewell, Ping. As expected, Apple's much-beleagured attempt at launching its own social media network is going to the graveyard of tried, but failed Apple ideas. A notification in the Ping area of iTunes shows that the feature will no longer be available as of September 30, and 9to5Mac noticed that the service is no longer accepting new members. Apple posts video of iPhone 5 event
Apple has posted a stream of September 12's keynote event, where it introduced the iPhone 5, new iPod nano, new iPod touch, and gave a sneak peak of an October overhaul of iTunes.
Generally the video stream of these events is of middling to decent quality; a higher-quality version should be uploaded to the iTunes Store later today if you'd rather wait for that.
Take a look at the event and see if you learn anything about Apple's newest gadgets that you haven't gleaned already from liveblogs or news posts. As an unabashed Foo Fighters fan, I think I'm most looking forward to their mini-concert at the end of the event.

Microsoft reportedly starting Office 2013 upgrade program mid-October
As Microsoft ramps up for its next big Office release, the company is apparently getting ready to offer up a program to help cushion the blow for those who pick up the current version of the suite. ZDNET is reporting that Redmond will begin its Office 2013 upgrade program on October 19th, keeping with its policy for past Office and Windows releases, ensuring that those who pick up the software between that date and the end of April get the upgrade. The word comes from some anonymous sources, so there's no guarantee here -- there's also no info on whether the upgrade will be fully free or will have a small fee attached. We're still not quite sure when Office will officially be hitting the market, but the site's sources put it at around February.

iPhone 5 to come in one CDMA and two GSM versions
When Apple's iPhone 5 launches, it will do so in three models: CDMA, CDMA EV-DO Rev. A, and CDMA EV-DO Rev. B. As was previously expected, the new iPhone will also feature the nano-SIM design proposed by Apple and accepted as standard by international telecom standards bodies.
