Anuman Interactive aus Frankreich hat ein Gelegenheitsspiel namens “French Cycling Tour 2010″ im App Store veröffentlicht. Das Spiel ist in zwei Versionen, für iPhone und iPod Touch und auch für iPad mit dem Namenszusatz HD erschienen.

Verizon's LTE network launching November 15 with two data cards and over 30 markets?
We're being fed some information on Verizon's launch strategy for its first commercial 4G markets today; the bad news is that it's looking like you'll have to wait until the holiday shopping season, but the good news is that they should have a surprisingly decent footprint at launch. Specifically, we're hearing that two data cards (presumably including that LG VL600 USB stick) will kick things off on November 15 with over 30 markets around the country -- including biggies like New York, LA, Chicago, and Philadelphia -- alongside ten airports, perfect for you globetrotters on layovers. Apple set to ship 13m iPads in 2010, 50m in 2012 - report
Signs have surfaced that Apple is due to ship many more iPads this year than once thought, iSuppli said. Suppliers in Asia are being asked to ship many more LCDs and flash memory chips than expected and could lead to 12.9 million iPads shipped just in 2010, an 82 percent hike over the 7.1 percent expected before. Researches expected Apple could reach its target even if it doesn't expand beyond the 19 countries selling iPads.

OtterBox, WaterField launch iPhone 4, keyboard cases
OtterBox has announced three iPhone 4 cases, at the same time as WaterField has released new Apple Wireless Keyboard cases. The OtterBox Defender is a multi-layer ruggedized case, with a polycarbonate shell made of shatter-resistant material, and a clear screen cover built in. A swiveling belt clip is included, and a silicone skin wraps around and locks into the shell. Apple posts $3.25 billion in third-quarter profits
Apple has announced results for its third fiscal quarter, which ended on June 26th. Revenue reached $15.7 billion, generating a net quarterly profit of $3.25 billion, or $3.51 per diluted share. The results are up substantially year-over-year, as Q3 2009 had revenue of $9.73 billion, and a net profit of $1.83 billion, or $2.01 per share. Gross margin was 39.1 percent in 2010 versus 2009's 40.9 percent. Apple notes that international sales accounted for 52 percent of quarterly revenue.

Adobe shows Flash-based FaceTime clone for Android
A video calling system for Android handsets is under development at Adobe, as evidenced by the video below. Called FlashTime, it is very similar -- and an alternative to -- Apple's own FaceTime video calling app for the iPhone. ThinkFlood ships RedEye mini remote adapter for iPhone
ThinkFlood has now began shipping its RedEye mini remote control adapter for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, as promised. The device, which plugs into the Apple device's 3.5mm headphone jack, works in conjunction with an included app and will control any home theater devices that use IR remotes. Samsung new plasmas will do 3D for much cheaper, maybe under $1,000?
Looks like Samsung's 3D Blu-ray players aren't the only ones coming in cheaper versions, as it's unveiled the new 680 Series and 490 Series plasma HDTVs. Both were shown off in Korea yesterday, though the US website only features a product page for the 50-inch PN50C680 so far, showing off its 1080p specs and DLNA access. Apple has reportedly sent out a customer satisfaction survey to a small portion of iPhone 4 owners. The form is mostly generic, addressing topics common of product surveys, such as overall satisfaction with the device and whether a person would recommend an iPhone to others. It also asks which phones a person might have previously owned, however, and for ratings on specific features like durability, FaceTime and the Retina Display.

Roku has added the ability to play iTunes music through its home multimedia box through a tie-up with MP3tunes. Users can pass both audio and playlists, and donít need to set up a home media server of any kind. Toshiba shows off Smart Pad tablet prototype, promises launch before October
It may not stand out from the pack quite as much as Toshiba's dual-screen Libretto W100, but it looks like the company will soon be expanding its tablet options a bit further. The latest addition was revealed in Australia by Toshiba's Mark Whittard, who showed off a prototype of a so-called "Smart Pad" tablet but unfortunately revealed few details about it. He did say that it would have both HDMI and USB connectivity, however, and that it could run either Android or Windows 7 -- Toshiba apparently hasn't decided which, though. NTT DoCoMo: Android will catch up to iPhone
NTT DoCoMo president Ryuji Yamada in an interview today tried to downplay the effect of the iPhone in Japan [reg. required]. Google signs 20-year deal to power data centers with wind energy
It's not the first investment Google has made in wind power, but anyone wondering about its commitment needn't look any further than the company's just-announced deal with NextEra Energy. It's agreed to buy wind power from NextEra's wind farm in Iowa for the next twenty years, which it says will provide enough power to supply "several" of its data centers. Analysts triple tablet sale estimates based on iPad surge
The iPad alone has tripled the likely sales for tablets this year, ABI researchers said. They now expect 11 million media-friendly tablets to ship in 2010, almost all of which will be Apple's model. Filed under: Apple FinancialApple is set to announce their Q3 2010 financial results today. As usual, Apple will stream a webcast of the event at 2:00pm PT/5:00pm ET on Tuesday, July 20, 2010. The main device that is expected to move Q3 results is the iPhone 4, but this will also be the first full quarter of iPad sales.
As always estimates vary, but the average consensus is that Apple sold 8.17 million iPhone units this quarter and 3.3 million iPad units. 9.3 million iPods are expected to have been sold and 3.2 million Macs. Floppy drive grows legs to avoid spills, still can't avoid extinction
We might one day live in a world where everyday electronics can fend for themselves against household disasters but, for the time being, we can only marvel at one of a kind projects like this "Floppy Legs" drive from British design team Chambers Judd. As you can probably surmise, they've added some legs to an otherwise ordinary external floppy drive, which remain concealed most of the time, but spring to life if there's liquid spilled near the drive. MacPaint, QuickDraw code goes to Computer History Museum
Apple has donated two related pieces of software -- MacPaint and QuickDraw -- to the Computer History Museum, located in Mountain View, California. MacPaint was launched with the original Macintosh in 1984, and is often considered the archetype for modern illustration programs, having introduced concepts like paint buckets and lasso selection. iLife 2010 coming in time for back-to-school?

The book is set for release on September 23rd, suggesting an updated iLife software release on or around that date. A Google translation of the book's description doesn't mention any new apps or features and the book's cover clearly lists the five current iLife apps.
For now we are posting this for interest's sake only. While For Dummies is one of the largest how-to publishers in the world, it's not clear if Apple would give them access to pre-release versions of iLife software in order to release a book around the same time the software is released.

Nikon D90 sequel's details firm up
Nikon's expected D90 replacement is getting more definitive details with rumors from traditionally reliable outlets. The camera, possibly called the D8000, would be the first regular Nikon DSLR to push past 12 megapixels and would have a 16-megapixel DX sensor that purportedly has the same ISO 25,600 sensitivity as the D700. Canon prepping mini DSLR to fight mirrorless cams
Canon's image group leader Masaya Maeda today confirmed that his company is developing a smaller pro camera to compete against mirrorless, interchangeable lens rivals. Web-based iTunes Connect submissions to close on July 22nd
Beginning on July 22nd, iOS developers will no longer be able to submit or update apps via the iTunes Connect web interface. An e-mail notice from Apple informs that people will instead be required to use Application Loader, the dedicated Mac client. "Application Loader offers fast uploading, a more stable connection, and early validation warnings," the message claims. The web option dates back to the origins of the App Store in 2008.

Filed under: iTSFollowing on the heels of the iTunes 9.2.1 update that was released yesterday, Apple has updated the iBooks app to version 1.1.1, which includes "substantial performance improvements when reading PDFs." While the new version of iBooks still lacks some lovin' for PDFs that e-books get (in-text Dictionary lookup, notes, etc.), this version makes swiping through PDFs smoother than before. Other improvements to iBooks 1.1.1 include:

ASUS' Eee Pad already dropping Windows Embedded for Android?
ASUS may have already tossed Windows Embedded Compact 7 aside for the Eee Pad EP101TC in favor of Android if a visit to the company proves true. The device doesn't have more details, including whether it would use Android 3.0, but it would still have its 10-inch display and possibly the 10-hour battery life. A formal debut would take place at CES in January but would be preceded by carriers getting subsidized versions in December.

Die Datenbankanwendung FileMaker ist jetzt als sogenannten "Go"-Version für das iPad (31,99 Euro) und den iPod touch bzw. das iPhone (15,99 Euro) verfügbar.
Laut Produktbeschreibung lassen sich damit bestehende FileMaker Pro-Datensätze öffnen, bearbeiten und durchsuchen. Die Anwendung erlaubt es, zwischen den verfügbaren Layouts zu wechseln und die Daten wie von der Desktop-Anwendung gewohnt in der Formular-, Tabellen- oder Listenansicht darzustellen.
Wenn vorhanden, verbindet sich FileMaker Go mit einer von FileMaker Server oder FileMaker Pro online bereitgestellten Datenbank. Alle Änderungen werden dann sofort mit der gehosteten Datenbank abgeglichen.

Optimiert: Telekom MultiSIM im iPad
Gemeinsam mit dem iOS 3.2.1-Update für das iPad halt Apple letzte Woche auch die Netzbetreibereinstellungen für die Telekom aktualisiert. Seitdem lässt sich eine MultiSIM der Telekom problemlos im iPad zu verwenden, ohne dass gleichzeitig eingehende Anrufe abgelehnt werden. Heute Abend: Quartalszahlen von Apple
Heute Abend ab 22:30 Uhr wird Apple die Quartalszahlen des am 30. Juni zu Ende gegangenen dritten Quartals (April bis Juni) des Fiskaljahres 2010 bekannt geben. Anschliessend findet wie üblich eine Bilanzpressekonferenz mit Journalisten statt.
Im Vorjahresquartal erwirtschaftete Apple einen Umsatz von 8.34 Milliarden US-Dollar und erzielte einen Gewinn von 1.23 Milliarden US-Dollar. Apple verkaufte im Q3 2009 2.6 Millionen Macs, 10.2 Millionen iPods und 5.6 Millionen iPhones. Für das diesjährige dritte Geschäftsquartal 2010 erwartete Apple einen Umsatz zwischen 13 Milliarden und 13.4 Milliarden US-Dollar bzw. zwischen 2.28 und 2.39 US-Dollar pro verwässerter Aktie.

Apple hat Software-Aktualisierungen für iTunes und den E-Book-Reader iBooks veröffentlicht:
Das iTunes-Update auf Version 9.2.1 beschränkt sich in erster Linie auf Fehlerbehebungen und Leistungsverbesserungen, darunter Probleme beim Drag&Drop, Sync-Probleme mit manchen Geräten und ein Problem bei der Aktualisierung auf iOS 4 mit verschlüsselten Backups. Zudem werden ältere Versionen einiger inkompatibler Plug-Ins von Drittherstellern deaktiviert. Das Update lässt sich wie immer über die iTunes-Funktion "Nach Updates suchen" herunterladen und installieren.
iBooks 1.1.1 bringt diverse Stabilitäts- und Leistungsverbesserungen, vor allem die Anzeige von PDFs wurde deutlich beschleunigt. MOTU has released an update to its audio workstation software, Digital Performer 7.2. The software allows users to record, edit, mix and process audio and MIDI tracks. It is geared toward songwriters, studio productions, film and TV soundtracks, or live performances. Some Droid X handsets have defective screens? (video)
All's not well in Creepy Red Eye land, if reports out of several cell phone forums can be believed -- a number of early Droid X adopters are documenting serious graphical or possibly electrical problems with the handset's giant screen. While we don't know how widespread the issue might be quite yet, symptoms include rapid flickering and vertical banding over all or part of the 4.3-inch LCD. Several forumites claim to have already had their phones replaced, in some cases being told the defect was a common problem in their respective launch day batches. UBS positive on Apple response to iPhone 4 reception issue
UBS has come out positive on AAPL stock following CEO Steve Jobs' response to the iPhone 4 reception issue. With Apple offering free cases and an option for a full refund, UBS analyst Maynard Um believes Apple has made a good effort to resolve the issue without a massive hit to its bottom line. The cost of the free bumpers should result in a loss of roughly $.03 in the next quarter. Um calls that a minimal impact, especially considering that some forecasters believed a recall would have cost the company $1.5 Billion.

FileMaker Go app set to arrive on the iPad and iPhone

Since I'm basically hanging out in my dorm room with its gigabit Ethernet connection to beat the heat, I'd love to figure out a way to hook that big pipe to my iPad. Remember the old MacBook Air that I got rid of? Well, I still have the USB Ethernet Adapter for it, and I was wondering if plugging that into the USB port on the iPad Camera Connection Kit would give me a way to use Ethernet on the iPad.
I don't have a Camera Connection Kit, but if this works, I'll run out and buy one as soon as I get money from Mom & Dad.

Nokia hunting for new CEO after failing to take on iPhone
Nokia is now looking for a replacement for its CEO, insiders said tonight [reg. required]. The sources for the WSJ didn't have many details but implied that the company was heeding complaints from shareholders that company leader Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo should resign. Executives are reportedly "serious about making a change" and could force a move by the end of July.

Mac 101: Zoom in and out while in Quick Look

Here's a neat trick if you want to zoom in on an image while using Quick Look. Hold down the Option key while your mouse is hovered over the image, and it will change to a magnifying glass. Once you've zoomed in, drag the cursor, use the scroll wheel, or two fingers on a trackpad to move around the image. Press Option-Shift, and then click on the picture to zoom out.

BlackBerry finally gets map triangulation support
RIM today caught up to smartphone rivals by adding a geolocation service to its phones. The approach lets BlackBerries finally obtain their position without needing a true GPS unit.
