Display color profiles resetting, causing blue tint
When running Snow Leopard, you may run into a small problem with your monitor colors where after running a full screen graphic application or system feature such as the screen saver, the colors on the screen will appear washed out and tinted blue. This will not always happen, but seems to be particularly prominent after running applications such as games, or when using multiple displays.

Tests: Windows PC "crapware" adds 2 minutes boot time
A series of tests have revealed that even newer Windows 7 PCs are being bogged down by unnecessary software that makes them run much more slowly than Macs. Comparing factory versions of several notebooks versus clean models, PC Pro finds that Acer and Sony systems take about two whole minutes more to boot because of the "crapware," or third-party utilities and trial apps, preloaded out of the box. They also consume roughly 1GB more extra active RAM and also rob the system of as much as 2.4GB of space in Acer's case.

Homebrew head-mounted Linux system for telepresence, looking silly
Sure, viewable eyewear (such as that made by Vuzix) might look like fun, but even with the display balancing on the bridge of your nose you need find a place to place the video source. What our man Pascal Brisset did is design a Linux system around a Gumstix Overo Fire computer-on-module, a Vuzix VR920 head-mounted stereoscopic 640 x 480 display (complete with 3D tilt sensor and 3D magnetic compass), WiFi, and Bluetooth modules -- the whole shebang resides in (and on) the eyewear, just the thing for secure telepresence and augmented reality applications (or just extra-private web browsing). Workaround for HTC Hero battery life issues discovered
Well, there still isn't a fix for the problem some people seem to be having with receiving text messages on their HTC Hero, but it looks like a workaround has been discovered for another pesky issue that can put a strain on the phone's battery life. Apparently, the phone has a bit of trouble going back into sleep mode after you send a text, or after you simply turn on the phone and immediately disable the screen without any activity. While some fairly elaborate fixes were tried by some users initially, it looks like the simplest actually works the best: just don't use the default SMS app to send texts. LG launches official site for GW620 Android phone, sort of
LG's GW620 handset may be easy to miss among all the other current Android-based offerings, but it looks like LG is now starting to ramp things up a bit to help it get noticed, with it recently launching (inadvertently, judging from the copy) the official site for phone complete with some fresh new images and promo videos. Apple TV Version 3.0 Released
Apple announced today the availability of the new version of Apple TV (3.0):
"The new software for Apple TV features a simpler and faster interface that gives you instant access to your favorite content," said Eddy Cue, Apple's vice president of Internet Services. "HD movies and HD TV shows from iTunes have been a huge hit with Apple TV customers, and with Apple TV 3.0 they get great new features including iTunes Extras, Genius Mixes and Internet radio."
The redesigned interface offers an easier navigation through the menu and give access to new functions/features such as Tunes Extras and iTunes LP in fullscreen mode with the Apple TV, and Genius Mixes and Internet radio through your home theater system.

Easypano's Panorama2Flash arrives for Mac
Easypano says it has launched a Mac version of Panorama2Flash. The software batch-publishes images as Flash panoramas, viewable in a fullscreen mode. NBA launches live video, audio streaming apps for iPhone
The NBA has released a new app for the iPhone and iPod touch, NBA League Pass Mobile. Users can watch live TV coverage of over 40 basketball games per week, while optionally viewing overlay information such as the current score and live player stats. Google to limit call blocking on Google Voice
Google in a response to the FCC on Wednesday said it has discovered a method to curb some of the rural call blocking that prompted a formal investigation into its Google Voice service. The search firm's new technology is much more specific and now only blocks less than 100 phone numbers, which Google now says are limited to "traffic pumping" sites like questionable conference call services that cost the company a disproportionately high amount in connection charges.

Apple TV Software 3.0 spielt iTunes LPs und Extras
Apple hat die Software der hauseigenen Set-Top-Box Apple TV aktualisiert. Die neue Version 3.0 ermöglicht es, jetzt auch die mit iTunes 9 vorgestellten Zusatzfunktionen iTunes ELP und iTunes Extras abspielen (man kann sich das wie ein DVD-Menü mit diversen Extras vorstellen). How to: migrating data to a new user account
Periodically people may find that their user accounts have become corrupted, where system processes and applications will not function properly when running in that account. Depending on the severity of the corruption, troubleshooting and fixing the problems may sometimes be more effort than it's worth, with creating a fresh account being a quicker workaround, especially if upon testing a new one the odd behavior does not persist. In these instances, while sometimes a complete reinstallation of OS X is the most straightforward approach, migrating to a new account may be preferred if you need to ensure other user accounts and application installations do not get touched.

We've already heard some talk that ASUS might possibly be launching an e-book reader before the end of the year that may or may not be the world's cheapest, and it looks like some unnamed execs at the company have now dropped a few more details on the matter. Intel replacing 2.66GHz Core i7 with 2.88GHz chip?
While Intel hasn't publicly announced its plans, the chipmaker is set to replace its popular 2.66GHz Core i7 920 CPU with a 2.88GHz Core i7 930 early on into 2010, says a Thursday report. The new chip will be based on 45nm architecture, but Fudzilla says it will otherwise retain the current chip's quad-core, eight-thread design for the LGA 1366 socket. This is a contradiction to Intel's recent plans, which see the LGA 1366 multiplier sockets open only for Extreme Edition chips, such as with the recent 3.2GHz Core i7 960.

CoreMelt has launched an update to its plug-ins for programs such as Final Cut Studio and After Effects. CoreMelt 2.23 offers five additional plug-ins, for instance allowing "fluid and flowing" graphic elements, shaded backgrounds, and the simpler creation of smooth glass, rough glass or water reflections. Fuji Heavy Industries in Japan has announced what it's calling 'the first' autonomous farming robot. This bot, which is about six and a half feet long and runs on gas, sends and receives laser signals to orient itself by way of reflective plates placed every 30 feet, using them to just distances. Jibbigo translates between English and Spanish voice
A company called Jibbigo has released a new bilingual translation app for the iPhone and iPod touch, capable of translating a user's speech directly into another spoken phrase. Users record one sentence of English or Spanish at a time, which the app then translates into a synthesized counterpart. A vocabulary of 40,000 words is included, generally skewed towards travelers and doctors.

Über den Preis der passiven iPhone-Autohalterung von Navigon wurde viel gemeckert, angesichts der Bilder, die uns Ingo eben zugeschickt hat relativiert sich das Ganze dann zumindest ein wenig: Bislang nicht kommuniziert wurde seitens Navigon, dass das im Lieferumfang ein Belkin Ladeadapter enthalten ist. A US patent filing published today suggests Apple has been researching the prospects of a wireless headset with its own media playback support. The device would operate as a typical wireless headset as a companion for an iPhone or similar device but would play music from storage built into the earphones. It could have basic music controls and a display, but with a microphone it could also use voice commands to play specific content without looking.

Motorola posts small 3Q profit, picks new CFO
For Motorola, any profit at all is a Good Thing right now, so we're sure there are a lot of smiling faces out in Schaumburg today on news that the company managed just a smidge of black ink in the third quarter. The Mobile Devices division specifically turned in $1.7 billion in revenue (about $100 million less than the quarter prior) and accounted for a $183 million loss, which was offset by wins in the company's other divisions ultimately resulting in $12 million in bankable profit. The company says that it expects to push fewer handsets in the fourth quarter as it scales back "unprofitable" devices in favor of its new Android-based gear -- which is just fine by us -- and yes, indeed, it still intends to split the company into two entities when the

Motorola erreicht im dritten Quartal knapp die Gewinnzone
Motorola hat zum zweiten Mal in Folge einen Gewinn erzielt. Für das dritte Quartal meldet das Unternehmen einen Überschuss von 12 Millionen Dollar oder 0,01 Dollar je Aktie. HTC CEO says he could but won't make HD2 an Android phone, has to take care of Windows Mobile
In an interview given to Forbes, HTC CEO Peter Chou spoke pretty candidly about the widespread desire for an Android version of the HD2, and says the phone won't be finagled thusly. "Technically, we could make the HD2 an Android phone, but I have to take care of Windows Mobile," said Chou, after which we imagine popped in a stick of Juicy Fruit and didn't offer to share any with the rest of the class. Apple Stores to transition to iPod touches for checkout?
Apple is transitioning its current mobile checkout system away from the Pocket PC to the iPod touch, several sources claim. A distinguishing trait of Apple Stores is the ability of clerks to handle payments away from a fixed station; the company has, however, been using Pocket PCs for this purpose since 2005, in spite of launching the iPhone and iPod touch in 2007. The move to the Touch is said to be coming in time for the 2009 holiday shopping season, and already in effect at a Valley Fair Mall location in Santa Clara, California, possibly as a trial.

Apple terms hint Apple TV 3.0 overhaul
Apple has inadvertently hinted at a major update for the Apple TV through an update to to its iTunes Store Terms and Conditions. The new agreement, which has shown up in iTunes 9 but isn't yet reflected on Apple's website, references an as yet unreleased Apple TV 3.0 update and says it will enable both iTunes LP and iTunes Extras, both of which so far only work on a computer. The LP standard is already known by AppleInsider to be formatted for 720p and to include HDTV metatags but hasn't had any definite migration plans until today.

Apple TV-Update auf 3.0 steht kurz bevor
Seit September warten wir auf ein größeres Update für Apple TV, denn letzten Monat wurde nicht nur der Preis für die Set-Top-Box deutlich reduziert, sondern auch die neue iTunes-Version 9 mit den Bonus-Features für Musik- und Videodownloads iTunes LP und iTunes Extras vorgestellt.
Wiedergegeben konnten diese grafiklastigen Zusatzfunktionen (man kann sich das wie ein DVD-Menü mit diversen Extras vorstellen) bislang nur auf einem Computer mit iTunes 9. Jetzt scheint es, als stünde ein Software-Update, das die Wiedergabe dieser Features über Apple TV erlaubt, direkt bevor. Beim Einkauf im iTunes Store wird seit heute darauf hingewiesen, dass die Verkaufsbedingungen dahingehend überarbeitet wurden:

Qooq recipe and cooking tablet pc launched for French speakers only
Cooking tablets and recipe readers have been pretty limited (and not very good) in the past -- but this one looks extremely promising. Called the Qooq, the 10.2-incher boasts -- in addition to a bunch of recipes, of course -- complete meal prep videos, instructions and advice on choosing ingredients, shopping lists, meal planners -- all which can be updated monthly via a subscription service. Motorola turns slight profit ahead of Droid
Motorola landed a crucial victory today with word of a profit for its summer quarter. The company bounced back from its year-ago $397 million loss to a $12 million profit for the same season this year. Its actual cellphones shipped fell sharply from 25.4 million phones to just 13.6 million but were offset by help from cost cuts as well as boosts in sales for its networking equipment and enterprise-class hardware.

Well, Magellan doesn't seem to be doing much talking about this one itself just yet, but Best Buy has a fresh listing for a new SE4 nav unit from the company, and it seems to be available right now. Better still, Best Buy also looks to have knocked a full $60 off the MSRP right of the bat, bringing it down to just $119.99. Sprint's subscriber losses narrow in summer
Sprint today reportedsignificant losses for its summer quarter. The carrier's net losses widened from $326 million a year ago to $478 million but were softened by losing a relatively modest 135,000 cellphone customers; the number is Sprint's smallest loss in customers in the past two years. Das kann praktisch sein, manch ein Benutzer möchte seine Datei aber möglicherweise nicht mit seinem Namen oder gar seiner Anschrift und weiteren Daten weitergeben. Der Online-Buchhändler Libri.de hat nach eigenen Angaben eine Sicherheitslücke geschlossen, durch die Rechnungsdaten seiner Kunden theoretisch für jedermann einsehbar waren. Latest Mac OS X 10.6.2 beta remains issue free
Apple’s latest pre-release Mac OS X 10.6.2 beta (Build 10C535) is now in distribution to developers.
This new build focuses on graphics drivers, trackpad preferences and virtual machine creation. Good news: like the preceeding beta, this new version lists no known issues, reinforcing expectation Apple will ship the new OS imminently.
As previously reported, one serious bug fixed in this release is the one in which guest account problems could see users losing all the data held in their regular accounts. The update also ushers in native support for the new Magic Mouse.

Has Apple contracted its tablet battery supplier?
Apple has contracted a new battery supplier, C-Tech, to produce power cells for its iPhones and iPods, the supplier announced today.
The company also makes batteries for HP. It currently produces 500,000 notebook batteries and 2.5 million for handsets and other portable devices every month at its two Chinese plants.

Apple engineers Chinese travels hint tablet r&d heading to crescendo
We all know Apple’s cooking something up - feverish market speculation, high-level meetings with publishers for eBook discussions, increased r&d spend all reinforce the notion the company has something up its sleeve - we all think it’s some form of tablet.

Bald neue MacBook Pros?
Einmal mehr wurden in System-Dateien von Mac OS X Hinweise auf zukünftige Mac-Modelle gefunden. Smells Like Donkey: 80 Prozent der Game Apps sind Raubkopien
Riecht nach Betrug: Die Spieleentwickler bei Smells Like Donkey haben sich die Mühe gemacht, die Online-Statistiken ihres Spiels Tap-Fu auszuwerten, das für 1,59 Euro im App Store für iPhone und iPod touch angeboten wird.
Die Entwickler wollten sich ein Bild darüber machen, wie häufig das Spiel illegal kopiert wird. Sie nutzten dazu die Highscore-Übertragung des Spiels auf ihrem Online-Server: Bei dieser werden nicht nur die erreichten Punkte abgefragt, sondern auch ein "Piracy-Flag". Den übermittelt das Spiel, wenn es auf einem JB-Endgerät (Jailbreak) unter Umgehung des DRM-Systems des App Store gestartet wird. Die Auswertung ergab, dass 80 Prozent der übermittelten Highscore-Werte von illegal kopierten Versionen stammten!
Da der Highscore-Server auch die ID-Nummer der iPhone/iPod-Hardware speichert, untersuchten die Entwickler anschließend, wieviele der Software-Piraten nach einigen Tagen das Spiel offiziell im App Store kauften. Dies sollte d

Nach Informationen von werben&verkaufen (w&v) prüfen einige Tageszeitungen, einen gemeinsamen "Kiosk" auf dem iPhone einzurichten. In seiner letzten Ausbaustufe soll der digitale Kiosk Zeitungsinhalte aus ganz Deutschland vertreiben. Ein entsprechendes Konzept mit dem Arbeitstitel "News Push" präsentierte Marktwert IT bislang einem runden Dutzend Verlagen, die sich in dieser Woche bei der Augsburger Allgemeinen trafen.
Zu den eingeladenen Verlagen gehören dem Vernehmen nach unter anderem die Schwäbische Zeitung, die Nordsee-Zeitung und die Rhein-Zeitung. Das Konzept, das w&v vorliegt, sieht vor, dass jede Nachricht mit dem Namen der jeweiligen Zeitung gekennzeichnet ist. Die Verlage erhalten eine Beteiligung am Verkauf und können den Umsatz jedes einzelnen Artikels in Echtzeit abrufen. Einem Rechenbeispiel zufolge kostet der Einzelabruf eines Beitrags 0,79 Euro. Olympus E-P2 leaked in the most insignificant of ways
Olympus' E-P1 micro four thirds camera only hit the market a few months ago, but already it seems as if a successor is inching closer to release. A peek at the outfit's official Chinese website shows a panel and link for a "new" E-P2 camera, though it seems as if the page it's listed on isn't quite complete. Apple Preparing to Fight with Nokia Regarding Claims for Patent Infringement
Last week, we reported that Nokia decided to launch a legal procedure against Apple for patent infringement. So Far Apple did not officially react, till today. The company intend to fight Nokia's claims on the Smartphone markets with the last energy. According to some analyss, Apple might have to pay up to 1 billion USD to settle the issue. Google Navigation coming to the iPhone Maps.app?
Google today introduced a new (kind of amazing) Navigation app for Android 2.0. This application is only avaialble at the moment as a beta for the Droid phone on Verizon but Google is apparently working with Apple on bringing it to the iPhone.
According to CNET it isn't just the iPhone,
Google isn't ruling out licensing the software to makers of portable navigation devices used in cars throughout the world, said Gundotra, vice president of engineering at Google for mobile and developers. The process involving Apple is slightly different from the usual App Store submission process, because Maps is a built-in iPhone application, he said.

iPhone's importance to Apple grows exponentially
Part of Apple's 10K released this morning was news that iPhone revenues moved from around 5.68% of Apple's total sales in 2008 to 18.48% in 2009, a 300% increase. That translates into a dollar increase from $1.6 billion in 2008 to $6.2 Billion in 2009.
Fortune fired up the old Excel graphing function to create the charts at the right. Notice the purple iPhone slice of pie is growing at such a fast rate that the other pieces of pie (iPod and Mac) may not be larger in the coming years.

While reports tell us the company is now training staff to use iPod touch devices to process orders and payments during the holiday season, fresh reports suggest Apple plans open its first store in France on November 7, as predicted near the location of the world famous Louvre museum in Paris.
The shop - situated at a flagship location - will cover 700 square metres. We first reported Apple’s French national treasure intention in January, and later learned the new shop will extend across two floors, replacing two previous shops, Résonnance and Lalique.

Details of 3D cable demo at Cable-Tec emerge
Our friend Mari at the official Motorola Blog just got back from checking out the 3D demo at Cable-Tec and was able to dig up a few extra details in addition to sharing her impressions. It's been a while since we've seen a humanoid robot this size do anything very new or interesting -- mostly they seem busy with their slow-mo dance moves -- but the new ROPID bot by Tomotaka Takahashi, the man behind Panasonic's Evolta bots, not only has a few new tricks up its plastic sleeves, but has personality to spare. Apple has finally begun shipping its new Magic Mouse wireless controller. The necessary software updates for Leopard and Snow Leopard arrived on Tuesday, enabling the operating systems to recognize the Multi-Touch gestures for scrolling, swiping, clicking and double clicking.

HTC confirmed to be cooking up Android 2.0 update for Hero, other devices unclear
Anyone with an existing Android device and a nasty case of DROID envy today might want to hold off before switching devices, emptying the bank account, and possibly switching carriers in the process, because HTC's got a little bit of information here to end our day on a high note. Here's the full quote:
"Yes, we are working on an Eclair update for the HTC Hero. Because Eclair is a significantly enhanced release, it will require some time to update Sense for this new version of the Android OS. Please be patient while we work to provide you with a tightly integrated experience like the one you are already enjoying on your Hero."

HighPoint has announced two PCI-Express 2.0 cards that support SATA III
The Rocket 620 has two internal SATA III connectors while the variation 622 changes them for two connectors with the format eSATA.
These two cards function on a PCI Express connector that will limit their flow to 500 MB/s instead of the 600 MB/s possible with standard SATA III. Paris Apple store at the Louvre set for Nov 7th opening
