Instinct HD gear starts turning up at Best Buy
A funny thing happens when a major new handset's released on a big carrier: matching accessories come along for the ride. Cases, chargers, armbands, screen protectors, you name it -- anything to get you to double your spend before you walk out of the door with your multi-hundred-dollar phone. Off Topic: Microsoft will reveal two iPhone competitors in 2010
It isn't really our area of expertise, but we've gotten word that Microsoft will unleash two new Smartphones, probably at CES in January 2010. Developed under the project "Pink" moniker, these two slider phones stem from the aquisition of Danger and will continue to use Sharp as the manufacturing partner (not HTC as previously rumored by the WSJ). In fact, they'll be co-branded as "Microsoft+Sharp" products.

Haier steps out of character, builds ultra-desirable Jian i7 ultra-thin laptop
The last time Haier really wowed us was back in 2007 when the company was peddling its "screen-on-a-stick" laptop tech. Two years later we've got this little beauty to drool on: the Jian i7. Textadventure-Interpreter Frotz 1.3 ohne Downloadfunktion
Wer die alten Infocom-Adventures mit Frotz auf dem iPhone spielt, sollte von der Aktualisierung auf Version 1.3 Abstand nehmen. Frotz ist ein Interpreter für Textadventures im Z-Code-Format und seit 2008 im App Store vertreten. On this blogger's second century ride of the season, I noticed the groan-inducing "low battery" icon on my near-antique Polar S710 cyclecomputer/HRM--I now have to send it to Polar for a battery and chest strap replacement. The Polar product has always been a bit of a disappointment to me. It has an unintuitive interface, is prone to interference, and is infamously inaccurate. Zune HD a major sellout?
Let it be known: we liked the Zune HD before it was popular, before all the poseurs jumped on the bandwagon with their tight-fitting jeans and their hairstyles. If various stores on the internet are to be believed, the Zune HD is selling out in a pretty big way. Amazon is listing a 1-2 month wait for the 16GB model and a 1-3 week wait for the 32GB, Best Buy has the player listed as "backordered," and New Egg shows "sold out." Microsoft's own store doesn't seem to be having these stocking problems, but we suppose that's to be expected. How about you, are you being kept from the Zune HD your heart desires? Looking for a PMP that outputs full 1080p video? Then you've no doubt noticed that your options are pretty limited, even from PMPs (and phones, for that matter) bold enough to call themselves "HD." Camino 2.0 Beta 4 mit neuen Funktionen
Auf dem langen Weg zur Version 2.0 - die erste Beta ist im Dezember 2008 erschienen - ist nun die vierte Beta von Camino 2.0 veröffentlicht worden. Pentax debuts 12 megapixel duo: Optio M85 and E85 point-and-shoots
We'll admit -- compared to the ketchup-colored K-x, these two just seem lackluster. And, perhaps they are. But there's still some merit to Pentax introducing a new pair of point-and-shoots, with both the M85 and E85 sporting 12 megapixel CCD sensors and relatively slim bodies. The former can also shoot 720p video and features a 3-inch touchscreen, shake reduction and face detection, while the lower end E85 gets saddled with a 2.7-inch LCD, a VGA movie mode and an awkward feeling of incompetence. Der telefonische Service der DSL-Anbieter ist wie bereits im Vorjahr im Durchschnitt nur befriedigend, so das Ergebnis einer aktuellen Studie, die das Deutsche Institut für Service-Qualität (DISQ) im Auftrag von n-tv durchgeführt hat. The ruckus over Google Voice on the iPhone continuesIf you thought the brouhaha over Google Voice on the iPhone had blown over, you’d better batten down the hatches: it’s coming around for a second pass. Microsoft: Löschen von Anwendungen ohne Zustimmung nur letzte Maßnahme
Das automatische Löschen von Inhalten auf Mobilgeräten ohne Zustimmung des Anwenders ist eine umstrittene Maßnahme, erst recht nachdem Amazon dies mit einigen eBooks machte. Deshalb sorgte auch Microsoft für Aufregung, denn angeblich wurde auf einer Präsentation des neuen Windows Marketplace für Mobilgeräte gesagt, dass nachträgliche entfernte Anwendungen auch automatisch von den Geräten verschwinden.

Verizon says trackball issue is 'addressed' on Tour, no longer a problem
Sprint had told us in a statement that its BlackBerry Tours only had trackball issues on "early production" units, and now Verizon is telling us pretty much the same thing: Early on there was an issue with the trackball that affected a small percentage the early production units -- far less than industry norms. The issue was detected early, addressed immediately and is no longer an issue. Returns on this device are some of the lowest among any of our smart phones. JA Solar and Innovalight team up to commercialize 'silicon ink' solar cells
We've seen a few different approaches to printable, and occasionally paintable solar cells over the years, but it looks like JA Solar was particularly taken with Innovalight's so-called silicon ink-based solar cells, and it's now announced that its teaming up with the company to commercialize the technology. In addition to being "printable" and cheaper to manufacture than traditional solar cells, the company also claims that the silicon ink solar cells also boast an impressive 18 percent conversion efficiency, which has apparently just been backed up by both the U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory

Tip: Change the grid background color in iTunes 9
Many people use and like the grid view in iTunes, where albums are shown in a grid layout and can be played individually instead of having the songs of all albums in one big list. Unfortunately Apple does not provide a way to customize the background in the grid view, and in the latest version of iTunes people are forced to use the new white backdrop to their albums. This has not been a welcomed change by some people, who wish to still use the darker background.

Microsoft goes on price attack for Win 7 as OS wars continue
Microsoft continues to attempt to regain the initiative, and is attempting to boost sales of its forthcoming Windows 7 OS by offering a deep discount on the software to students, as it tries to lure them back from the Mac.
The company has announced qualified college and university students can obtain Windows 7 for $30 in the US and £30 in the UK. The OS is available to students for pre-order now and will be released for download on October 22 in the US. In the UK pre-orders start September 22, while students in other countries will be able to take up the discount from October 22.

Apple fires back: "We do not agree with all of the statements made by Google"
Oh, snap! Not an hour after Google published their letter to the FCC stating that Phil Schiller rejected the Google Voice App, Apple responds:
“We do not agree with all of the statements made by Google in their FCC letter. Apple has not rejected the Google Voice application and we continue to discuss it with Google.”

Barnes and Noble e-book reader hits the FCC
Barnes and Noble, the United State's largest book seller has filed with the FCC its own e-book reader, as it's insinuated in the attached Agent Authorization Letter. The dipping of the toes into the digital text industry isn't as peculiar as, say Discovery Communications, since Barnes and Noble already has some known precedence in the e-book reader market, partnering with Plastic Logic as their "exclusive eBookstore provider" --

iLuv has launched its new line of cases for the new iPod nano and iPod touch. The new series features four types of Nano cases, the first of which is a silicon case with a flame pattern on the back.
