Gene Muster is on a tear: New AppleTVs next week?
In yet another research note to investors, Gene Munster today said that AppleTVs are going to get updated at September 9th event. His rationale? The 40GB version is taking 1-2 weeks for delivery at the Apple Store (160GB is next day). He pads this by saying that the AppleTV hasn't been 2 weeks behind in shipping since he's been tracking the device. He hypothesizes that the 160GB version will stick around and Apple will have a bigger model(s) ready for release next week.

Apple approves Vonage's iPhone VoIP app
Vonage today said that Apple has approved its iPhone VoIP app. The company doesn't have details of when it expects the software to reach the App Store but says it's already conducting a beta test of the software. It's expected that Internet calling will only work over Wi-Fi, however, due to policies from AT&T and some other carriers that bar VoIP on 3G due to lag and other claimed quality issues

Steve Jobs to host September 9th iPod event, analyst claims
Update: Shaw Wu of Kaufman Bros. released a note to investors this morning saying Jobs was a no-go for the iPod event. Munster has been historically more accurate than Wu, plus we want to see Jobs doing his thing so we're going with Munster.

Google, Opera offer Mac users a browser bonanza
Browser bonanza, Mac users, with the all-new Opera 10 browser available now and an updated and much-improved Google Chrome browser alpha also doing the rounds.
Google has introduced Chrome 4.0.203.4 for Mac, addressing compatibility problems in Snow Leopard and mending a bunch of additional bugs in the process. There’s some user interface changes, including support for tab-to-search and command/shift clicking.

iPhone sales could explode: Apple continues talks with China Mobile
Apple may soon be offering the iPhone to a bigger population than that of the US and the UK combined, as the company continues to engage in talks with China’s biggest mobile telco, China Mobile.
As we quietly confirmed last week, the recently-hatched China Unicom deal is a non-exclusive one, and while that deal alone may make for up to five million iPhone sales in China (up to one-in-five of all iPhones sold next year), but Apple’s management continues to negotiate for a bigger prize in getting hitched with China Mobile.

iPhone 3.1 to ship next week, offer MMS and more, AT&T hints...
AT&T has hinted a new version of the iPhone OS will ship later this month, iPhone Software 3.1.
The new software is likely to deliver on some of the promises made to AT&T users when iPhone 3.0 shipped, specifically MMS messaging (at last) and the capacity to engage in Bluetooth file transfers.
iPhone 3.1 will also likely offer support for any of those features we’ve been hearing so much rumour and speculation about, such as social networking of iTunes songs played, potentially a subscription-based streaming music service and more.

Winning app at MSFT-supported dev camp not for Windows, but for iPhone
The winner of a recent Startup Weekend on Microsoft’s campus didn’t build anything for Windows, no, but software for an iPhone, Engadget informs.
Microsoft hosted a gathering of developers on its campus recently, offering developers access to its own development tools. The only snag was the winning app was designed for an iPhone. Learn That Name, a name recognition memory game, was voted best app in show.

AT&T deploys more network to New York City Metro Area
CAT&T announced today a substantial strengthening of its 3G mobile broadband wireless network where it has deployed spectrum in the 850 MHz band across large portions of metro New York City, Long Island and New Jersey. That should mean that New York iPhone users like myself should be able to make calls without getting dropped every few minutes and shouldn't have trouble getting data in the largest city in the US. They've also added additional bandwidth pipes to those 3G towers as promised in an announcement in June.

UC Berkeley researchers tout world's smallest semiconductor laser
Scientists at the Norfolk State University may laid claim to a "world's smallest laser" title just a few short weeks ago with the aid of some newfangled "spasers," but it looks like the folks at UC Berkeley at hot on their heels with some tiny lasers of their own, and they've now announced what they claim to be the worlds smallest semiconductor laser. Android-based Archos gets pictured, briefly priced by B&H
We still gotta wait until September 15th for the whole scoop, but B&H has gone ahead and spoiled some of the mystery of Archos' Android-based Archos 5, giving the internet tablet its own listing in a number of different storage capacity options, pictures in tow, as well as a $130 DVR station. Move over, Sholes: Verizon getting Android-powered 'Desire' from HTC?
A good, hard look at Verizon's WinMo strategy tells you that the company isn't loyal to a single brand when it comes to mobile platforms (and why should it be?), so we can't say we're terribly surprised to see a leaked inventory doc suggesting HTC wants in on Big Red's Android action. All of the Verizon-focused Android talk as of late has focused on Motorola's Sholes -- but as Android goes, HTC's still the Goliath to Moto's David, so it would make a lot of sense that we're seeing some action out of Taiwan here, especially in light of the fact that we've got the CDMA-flavored Hero coming up for Sprint. With CES 2010 leaning around the corner and refusing to leave our periphery, we're getting more and more evidence that the January trade show will be a launching pad for a new suite of USB products. Several months after the first USB 3.0 cables curiously went on sale, the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) has announced the availability of the USB 3.0 Compliance and Certification Program. Firefox gains share in Aug. at IE's expense
Mozilla's Firefox browser cut significantly into Microsoft's market share of web browsers in August, data from Net Applications shows. Its increase to 22.98 percent of the market wasn't an absolute high but resulted in Internet Explorer reaching an all-time low of 66.97 percent, a sharp fall from 67.68 percent just a month earlier. Walmart expands Durabrand DVD player recall to 4.2 million
You know what they say about getting what you pay for? Well, the adage has turned out to be truer than normal in this case. Walmart, which sold some uber-cheap (like, $18 - $29 cheap) Durabrand DVD players in the US and the UK, recently issued a recall for 1.5 million of the units due to 12 reported cases of overheating. WD Caviar Black und RE4 mit 2 TB vorgestellt

Windows Mobile 6.5 kommt am 6. Oktober

Google hat heute bekannt gegeben dass der Übersetzungsdienst ab sofort 51 Sprachen – darunter alle 23 offiziellen Sprachen der EU – und damit neun mehr als zuvor spricht. Cisco VPN connections limited to TCP

The gadget underground has been buzzin' with clandestine chatter relating to Android MIDs lately, and now a company called Hardkernel is concocting a handheld game platform and media player based on the open source OS and the same processor as the iPhone 3GS. And you know what? This is a pretty cool idea for a device, even if the company's website leaves us frightened and confused. Apple may soon be offering the iPhone to a bigger population than that of the US and the UK combined, as the company continues to engage in talks with China’s biggest mobile telco, China Mobile.

Apple’s now-confirmed special event on September 9th may mark the return to the keynote stage of Apple CEO Steve Jobs, Piper Jaffray analyst, Gene Munster, claims this morning.
In a note to clients the analyst warned investors may not be blown away by the new camera-carrying iPods classic, nano and touch. He believes the iPod segment is slowing, but ignores that iPod touch sales continue to climb (up 130 per cent last quarter y-o-y). iPhone-Diebe mittels GPS-Ortung überführt
Bei einem Überfall im Stadtteil Shadyside in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania wurden einem Passanten Geldbörse, PIN der Kreditkarte und iPhone abgenommen. Das Opfer konnte den Ordnungshütern später vom Computer aus mitteilen, wo sich die Täter gerade befanden. Von wegen "Ok, Google": Die Einnahmen aus Android-Apps reichen zwar aus, um sich ein paar Radiohead-Album zu kaufen, aber auch nur, wenn sie hoch oben in den Top-Ten platziert sind. Thoughts about Snow Leopard
Few days after having installed Snow Leopard on our Mac, without any problem for most of us, beside compatibility issues with some software or utilities, we recovered several GB of storage space. But, what about more responsive interface, higher performance level of the finder, etc as expected/claimed by Apple?
On will have to wait for enjoying such improvements as it will require changes in codes of today's applications. We would have expected an update of the iLife suite in order to illustrate benefits obtained from Snow Leopard. No. One could have expected having iDVD offering faster encoding, or iPhoto face recognition boosted by the new OS, nope, it is apparently too early. Apple just installed new foundations, and we will have to wait for the next step. If the new OS seems to sale very well, flying off shelves from resellers, we are impatient to experience the new OS on a practical point of view, in action. On the other side, only a small percentage of the Mac hardware hosts a graphic cards

Now everyone pretend to be surprised here. Canon's gone official with what everyone has already seen and read about in detail, the EOS 7D. Ten One Design has launched Autograph, its latest signature application for MacBooks. The software enables the Multi-Touch trackpad to be used for creating autographs or designs which can be inserted into e-mails or software such as Pages, iChat or Microsoft Word. Dell's 11.6-inch Inspiron 11z sure looks promising, with a sub-$500 price tag and an Intel Celeron 723 / non-Atom processor, but if you ask the gang at Notebook Review describe it, it's unfortunately a pretty letdown. Netbook sales growth doubles laptops in Q2 '09
While it shouldn't come as too much of a surprise given the fairly steady growth netbooks have seen since their inception as a product category, it's still pretty notable that they've apparently now managed to nearly double traditional laptops in sales growth during the second quarter of this year. That word comes from market research firm DisplaySearch, which found that netbook shipments grew an impressive 40% compared to the same quarter last year, as opposed to 22% for plain old laptops.
