Permissions problem in 10.5.8 is patched by Snow Leopard...

We’ve just come across what appears an interesting report, which describes problems and a solution for fixing permissions in Snow Leopard and Leopard. The report comes out of Macworld via Network World, and describes situations in which users upgrading to Mac OS X 10.5.8 have faced problems fixing permissions on their start-up drive using Disk Utility. Samsung has a new one in the works, the WB5000, presumably offering the price advantages of an 24x zoomin' all-in-one with some of the features and image quality of a DSLR -- that's the dream, anyway. Fuseproject commissioned by the City of New York to make bike helmets look less bad

In cities like New York, where bikers ride right alongside heavy traffic, bike helmets are a must. Trouble is, apparently plenty of riders don't like wearing them because of vanity -- most bike helmets aren't exactly attractive, if you haven't noticed. Die Diskussion, ob Poppenbüttel nun tatsächlich noch zu Hamburg gehört oder nicht mal beiseite gelassen - Hamburg hat nun ganz offiziell seinen Apple Store. Nach München der zweite überhaupt in Deutschland, die Nummer drei wird aller Wahrscheinlichkeit Frankfurt werden. Zur großen Eröffnung in Hamburg fanden sich dann doch erstaunlich viele Besucher ein. Die Warteschlange zog sich bis auf den Vorplatz des Einkaufszentrums und die 1000 kostenlose Begrüßungs-T-Shirts dürften kaum für alle Wartenden gereicht haben. Viele Mac-Anwender haben offensichtlich den Kauf des seit gestern verfügbaren neuen Betriebssystems Snow Leopard mit der Store-Eröffnung verbunden, im Store war für diese Kunden sogar eine "Snow Leopard Fast Lane" eingerichtet. Ansonsten umfasst das Angebot neben den bekannte Hardware-Produkten von Apple auch jede Menge Software sowe Zubehör diverser Hersteller für Macs, iPods und iPhones. How would you change Pentax's K-7 DSLR?

Pentax may not be the first name you think of when scouting a new DSLR, but it's certainly closer to the top now than it was prior to the K-7's release. The semi-pro cam saw positive review after positive review flow in, giving even the Nikon and Canon faithful reason to pay attention. Let's not jump to any conclusions here.  We'd just like to point out that with all of the Snow Leopard coverage, no one is mentioning the new Snow Leopard soft keyboard which didn't exist in Leopard.  After playing with it for awhile, you'll probably see that it would make a great interface for another type of device.  Instructions below 1. Apple iPhone crosses the wall and breaks into China - confirmed (at last)

China Unicom and Apple this morning confirmed the carrier will offer two versions of the iPhone in the world’s most highly-populated country, China. The news follows months of rumours to this effect, with the two companies seemingly locked into discussions regarding revenue-sharing arrangements. Sure looks like we stirred up a can of worms when we noted Adobe’s intention not to test Adobe CS3 for Snow Leopard support, and the company’s seeming insistence it wouldn’t devote resources to ensuring the premium-priced essential design software would work with the new OS. Gizmodo: 10, 13, 15-inch Mac OSX tablets coming

Gizmodo has a pretty big one this morning.  They claim that Apple is not only building the often talked about 10-inch tablet, but they are also developing much bigger tablets in 13 and 15-inch varieties.  These tablets are clad in aluminum but in the shape of very large iPhones (gen 1?).  The machines were spotted in a factory in China (not Foxconn) and their source wasn't sure how far these were along. One could speculate that if they are in China they are being fitted for production.  Their source said the company where they were spotted had a tight relationship with Apple.  Quanta has been the rumored manufacturer of Apple touch screen tablet products for months.

We’ve noticed our reports detailing Apple’s continued negotiations to introduce the iPhone into China haven’t quite captured the collective attention of readers, and fresh analysis once again reinforces just why the deal’s so important. Xbox 360 'Super Elite' with 250GB HDD glimpsed in South African retail ad

So much for secrecy. South African Xbox 360 distributor Comztek has told local gaming news site XboxGaming.co.za that the a 250GB "Super Elite" model is due there in October. Additionally, the Forza 3 bundle we saw heading to Germany is also en route to SA, retailing for R4,999 (US $646), or around the same price as the Elite before its recent global price cut. Study finds Kindle more eco-friendly than actual books, maybe

A mass-produced piece of plastic and electronics more environmentally-friendly than a simple book? Possibly, at least according to a new study released by the Cleantech Group. While the group found that the Kindle's upfront environmental impact was indeed fairly significant, they also found that the numbers can change dramatically over the course of the device's lifecycle -- depending largely on the users' reading habits, of course. More specifically, they say that the Kindle can produce a potential savings of 1,074 kg of CO2 if it replaces three books a month for four years, or a whopping 26,098 kg of CO2 if the Kindle DX is used to its fullest capacity.
