1Password 3 Update und Beta für Snow Leopard
Agile gab soeben die Preise für das Update auf 1Password 3 bekannt. Derzeit kostet das Update der Einzelplatzlizenz $19,95 und das der Familienlizenz $29,95. In Zukunft werden die Updatepreise auf $29,95 bzw. $49,95 angehoben.
Leider ist 1Password 3 noch nicht fertig. Wer allerdings bereits jetzt das Update kauft, bekommt Zugang zum Early Access

Google makes over a million public domain books available in EPUB format
The deal may have first been announced somewhat quietly last month, but now that Sony's come out with what's arguably its most attractive e-reader to date, the availability of over a million public domain books in the Sony-friendly EPUB format is sure to garner a fair bit more attention. As Google announced on its Inside Google Books blog, those books are now all available for download starting today and are, of course, completely free and able to be used on the EPUB-supporting device of your choice. Review: Aurora - Photo Editor
Light Crafts has developed Aurora, an easy to use photo editing application that also helps you manage, organize, backup, and publish your photos to the web. Developed originally for PC users, they've ported Aurora to Mac OS X 10.5, Leopard. While it includes editing tools even more basic than iPhoto, I doubt it will take its place because of some of its interface oddities.

Smart Technologies has announced a Mac version of its Smart Notebook SE software. Short for Student Edition, SE operates in tandem with the main Smart Notebook program, which in turn is used to create and deliver classroom lessons. Sanyo releases LP-XU106, the brightest projector under 4 kilograms
Sanyo's just announced a new projector, the LP-XU106. The projector weighs in at 3.4 kilograms, making it what the company calls the brightest projector in its weight class. And it is pretty bright -- at 4,500 lumens and a contrast ratio of 1,000:1. It also boasts Sanyo's "Easy Setup Function" to help out the projecting novices. The LP-XU106 will be available on November 20th, but there's no word on pricing as of yet. We'll keep you posted on that one.

Sanyo on Wednesday announced its LP-XU106 portable LCD projector, which it claims is the highest brightness ultra portable projector in its class, at 4,500 lumens. September 9 iPod event gets some corroboration from AppleInsider, still no word from Apple
There wasn't much reason to doubt that September 9 date we'd been hearing for Apple's annual fall iPod event, but now AppleInsider is saying it can independently confirm the date. iPod scammer gets 13-month prison sentence
A 23-year-old man who exploited Apple's warranty program has been sentenced to 13 months in prison, according to the Kalamazoo Gazette. Nicholas Woodhams of Portage, Michigan recently plead guilty to charges of mail fraud and money laundering; in addition to his prison time, he will have to pay $648,568 in compensation to Apple, and another $8,066 to the US Postal Service. Psst! There’s been some rumours claiming Apple intends introducing new breed ultra-thin MacBooks - now there’s a shred of evidence to back-up these claims
As we all know, you can’t have an ultra-thin yet full-featured laptop without an ultra-thin yet effective optical drive. Granted, this may not be entirely true - the MacBook Air proves you can offer an ultra-thin sans optical drive device, so perhaps that’s the future of the MacBook.

Purported Olympus E-600 apparently spotted in the wild
This one is being greeted with a fair bit of skepticism on the forums given its seemingly odd placement in Olympus' lineup but, if the pictures are to be believed, it looks like the company could be set to release a new E-600 Micro Four Thirds camera -- and soon, considering it's already in a camera shop. As you can see above, however, the camera looks a fair bit like Olympus' exisiting entry-level E-620 DSLR, and there's unfortunately no specs to speak of, although the E-600 model name did apparently crop up in another rumor a few weeks back. Weitere Hinweise auf iPod-Event am 9.
Am Datum für die Vorstellung der diesjährigen Upgrades für die iPod-Modelle Touch und Nano ist kaum noch zu rütteln. Der 9. September steht schon geraume Zeit hoch im Kurs (wir berichteten), jetzt will auch die US-Webseite AppleInsider den Termin von gut unterrichteten Quellen bestätigt bekommen haben.
Neben neuen iPod-Modellen wird an diesem Termin mit der Veröffentlichung von iTunes 9 gerechnet. Eine endgültige Bestätigung für den Termin wird es nicht vor Mitte nächster Woche geben, bis dahin dürfte Apple entsprechende Einladungen verschicken.

The number of French iPhone owners reporting incidents of cracked or “exploding” screens has risen to at least eight, new reports suggest. PSP Go disassembled, reassembly still in question
Well, the PSP Go may still not be available to the general public just yet, but the folks at levelup.cn have somehow managed to wrangle one out of Sony's hands, and have promptly gone and done what appears to be the first proper disassembly of the device. While there's exectedly not a whole lot of surprises, we do get a good look at the now non-removable battery (pictured above), the on-board memory, the familiar nub and controls and, of course, the complete lack of any UMD remnants -- not to mention a curiously placed GameCube watermark. Philp Hayes, a self-declared IT expert, claims his MobileMe account was hacked. The user asserts that hackers accessed his account, changed the password and made a €55 PayPal purchase from RapidShare. Adobe to drop CS3 support with Snow Leopard
Adobe will not offer any form of support for Creative Suite 3 when it comes to Mac OS X Snow Leopard, says the company's Photoshop product manager, John Nack. Britische Regierung erwägt Zugangssperren für Filesharer
Im Kampf gegen den illegalen Tausch von urheberrechtsgeschützten Dateien hat die britische Regierung jetzt Zugangssperren für Filesharer ins Gespräch gebracht. Der Vorschlag wurde während der aktuellen Anhörung zum Thema "Missbrauch von Peer-to-Peer-Technik" veröffentlicht, die erst Ende September enden sollen. Phishing-E-Mails rückläufig
Eine Studie im Auftrag von IBM hat ergeben, dass in der ersten Jahreshälfte die Anzahl der Phishing-E-Mails stark rückläufig ist. Laut der Studie kamen nur 0,1 Prozent aller Spam-E-Mails von Phishing-Agreifern, die damit an persönlichen Daten wie Anschrift und Bankdaten gelangen wollen. MacBook soll weiter gepflegt werden
Einst eine Produktfamilie, gibt es seit der Beförderung der Unibody-13-Zoll-MacBooks nur noch ein Einsteiger-MacBook. Line Out und Mini USB für iPhones und iPods
Beinahe seit es den Dockanschluss gibt, vertreibt Sendstation unter dem Namen PocketDock kompakte Adapter, die einen iPod oder ein iPhone um zusätzliche Anschlussmöglichkeiten erweitern.
Das neue PocketDock Line Out Mini USB stellt wie der Name schon sagt neben einem Line-Ausgang noch einen Mini USB-Anschluss bereit. Damit lassen sich iPod und iPhone auch mit einem möglicherweise Dank Digitalkamera oder Navi bereits vorhandenen Mini USB-Kabel laden und synchronisieren.
Der zusätzliche Line-Ausgang ist Dank der im Vergleich mit dem Ohrhöreranschluss qualitativ hochwertigeren Audioausgabe die erste Wahl für den Anschluss von Audiosystemen. Praktischerweise finden sich im Lieferumfang noch zwei passende Anschlusskabel: Klinke auf Klinke und Klinke auf Cinch.

VATM beobachtet beschleunigten Breitbandausbau
Die Geschwindigkeit beim Breitbandausbau in Deutschland hat nach Meinung des Branchenverbandes VATM deutlich zugenommen. Insbesondere die Kommunen engagieren sich demnach stärker und arbeiten vor Ort auch mit mittleren und kleineren Unternehmen zusammen. Diese Kooperationen auf lokaler Ebene berücksichtigen laut VATM nicht nur regionale Besonderheiten, sondern haben dazu geführt, dass die Wettbewerber in Deutschland inzwischen 2400 Gemeinden und Ortsteile an das schnelle Internet anschließen konnten. Facebook sucht 500 neue Mitarbeiter

Wir hatten letzte Woche bereits vom Annahmestopp für “Upgrade Anytime”-Aufträge berichtet, jetzt wurde uns seitens der Telekom bestätigt, dass das vorzeitige Upgrade-Angebot komplett eingestellt wurde. Gegen eine Gebühr von 25 Euro monatlich konnte man auch vor Ablauf der regulären Vertragszeit vom iPhone 3G auf ein vergünstigtes iPhone 3GS wechseln.

Bei größeren Systemupdates funktionieren zwar die meisten Programme weiterhin, allerdings ist es häufiger erforderlich, einige Anpassungen vorzunehmen. SCO Group gewinnt Berufungsverfahren um Unix-Rechte

If Snow Leopard will officially be available on Friday, we learned from numerous sources that resellers and distributors received large stocks of Snow Leopard DVDs.
Do not try to get one before Friday, Apple is tracking serial numbers and knows exactly which DVDs have been sold by which resellers.

According to iPhone Asia, Foxconn is readying two iPhones for the Chinese market. One will be the Wifi-less one we've heard about before. Another one will have Wifi according to their source.
… The same Foxconn source whispers that another special iPhone model for China is under development. This second model iPhone for China is a WiFi/WLAN Authentication and Privacy Infrastructure (WAPI)-capable prototype (presumably Model A1325), which may be ready for mass production by late 2009. Note: Model A1325 will support bandwidth 2400 – 2483.5 MHz (see image below). This band is currently used for a variety of technologies today, including Bluetooth, cordless phones, and 802.11 (WiFi).

LG and Nortel complete first legit LTE-CDMA handoff, Verizon swoons

Snow Leopard packing antivirus software?
If the online chatter is to be believed, Apple's very soon to be released Snow Leopard has in its code new protection for fighting malware. According to the picture above corroborated by other online reports, a DMG downloaded by Safari was checked by the OS and found to contain the "RSPlug.A" Trojan. The system promptly suggests you eject the disk image to avoid damage. PS3 Slim popping up all over the US
Since we first heard about Florida going Slim with its PS3s, we've gotten numerous reports abut the console showing up on retail shelves in Best Buys and GameStops across these 48 contiguous states. We've also heard whispers that brick-and-mortar Sony Style locations are getting shipments and will be unleashing to the masses soon after -- not to mention Amazon's still promising at least some deliveries for tomorrow. Our calls to Sony haven't been returned yet, but it seems like the release date now is more or less "as soon as your local electronics store gets a shipment." Facebook developer slams App Store approvals
Facebook developer, Joe Hewitt, has joined the throng of developers hitting out at Apple’s App Store approvals systems, but unlike others is saying there should be no App approval at all.
Writing on his blog, he vented his frustration at the process, which has hampered the release of Facebook 3.0 for iPhone, which remains unapproved.

An interesting little tidbit from Gizmodo. Snow Leopard is performing checks on .pkg and .dmg files to make sure they don't have malware. This is interesting because this feature hasn't been mentioned in any of the Snow Leopard documentation up until this point. Also, we have to wonder if Snow Leopard will be downloading Malware definition files are regular intervals and doing all of that stuff we love on PCs.
