iProd 1,1(Tablet?) lives inside, runs iPhone OS 3.1
Ars points to a USBDeviceConfiguration file which lives in the iPhone SDK 3.1 which has a surprising new addition that could signal an upcoming tablet. Included in all of the recent iPhone SDK updates until now has been the iProd 0,1 device file. 0,1 device files typically stand for prototypes.
As of iPhone SDK 3.1, there is now a new device profile . This device file has been updated to 1,1. Theoretically, this means that production devices are already being trialled on iPhone OS 3.1

iProd1,1 taucht in iPhone OS 3.1 auf
Im März 2009 wurde erstmalig in einer iPhone OS 3.0-Konfigurationsdatei neben dem noch unveröffentlichten iPhone 3GS und iPod touch auch ein 'iProd' gesichtet, genaugenommen der iProd0,1 - die Bezeichnung legte nahe, dass es sich um einen frühen Prototypen eines noch unveröffentlichten Produktes handelt. Das kostenlose Schalke 04-App liefert absolut subjektive Fußball-Berichterstattung rund um den Fußballverein aus Gelsenkirchen. HTC support site reveals Hero for Sprint, Snap for Alltel
We've been asked not to reveal the URLs, but we can assure you we've seen this official support screen pictured above with our own two eyes, which means that the HTC Hero is all but confirmed in a juicy CDMA blend for Sprint. News: Gameloft reveals NFL 2010, Modern Combat FPS

GoPayment iPhone app processes credit card payments
Intuit has released GoPayment, its newest iPhone app to complement users GoPayment Merchant accounts. The application allows users to process credit card payments as soon as a job is completed. The software additionally sends electronic receipts via e-mail and text message. Users can also review transaction history online and synchronize the information with their QuickBooks application.

Palm hires Apple vet Jeff Zwerner as new SVP of Brand Design
It's no secret that Palm has plenty of Apple veterans in its upper ranks (starting right at the top), and it looks like there now may be even more reminiscing about old times going on during lunch breaks, with the company recently announcing that it has hired Jeff Zwerner as its new Senior Vice President of Brand Design. In addition to working at Apple for a stint from 2001 to 2003 as Creative Director for Packaging and earlier from 1995 to 1996 as a Senior Art Director, Zwerner also founded the San Francisco branch of Factor Design, which has done work for Coca-Cola, Gap, GE, Hewlett-Packard, L.L. Kodak Zi8 impressions: surprising functionality, but it's still a pocket camcorder
We've been messing around with Kodak's latest pocket camcorder, the Zi8, and find the shooter to be an interesting hybrid. With a flip-out USB plug, HDMI out and an easily accessible SD card slot, this is clearly a "premium" mix of features for the class, but the $180 pricetag keeps the device firmly grounded in Walmart-friendly reality. Other odd perks like a line-in jack and 1080p have us scratching our heads -- but in a good way. Khronos releases OpenGL 3.2 spec
At the SIGGRAPH show that kicked off on Tuesday in New Orleans, the Khronos Group announced the release of its latest OpenGL graphics standard, OpenGL 3.2 (PDF). This update, the third major one in the last year, improves performance, quality, accelerated geometry processing and greater flexibility in dealing with 3D applications. IDFusion launches Bodega download store

Latest Dell tablet / MID rumor: Intel-based, free-on-contract

Analyst: China iPhone, tablet likely to ship in 2010
Kaufman Brothers analyst Shaw Wu has reiterated his belief that China Unicom is the front-runner for the iPhone's introduction into the Chinese market, although the device may not be ready for a local launch until closer to the Chinese New Year in February of 2010. T-Mobile's BlackBerry Curve 8520 unboxed and handled (with video!)
That new BlackBerry Curve 8520 for T-Mobile is in the house, sucking down EDGE data like it's going out of style (oh, right, it is). For a device that can be scored for $50 at Walmart as of tomorrow ($130 at T-Mobile stores), this is a surprisingly solid handset. The keyboard is classic BlackBerry goodness, and the overall heft gives us at least a little bit of assurance that the phone can hold up to wear and tear better than its predecessors. Most of the changes are for the better, like a trio of media keys up top and the rubberized sides, but we're not completely sold on the touchpad. Shaw Wu starts guesssing tablet screen sizes and release dates. Doesn't miss much
In one of the more laughable tablet predictions to date, notoriously unreliable Shaw Wu from Kaufman Bros. announces that Apple has been ordering large amounts of 4, 7, 9, 10 and 12-inch screens over the past two years and "based on that information, the analysis [sic] predicts that Apple will launch at least one -- but possibly multiple -- new devices in the near future".

Magazine hints at Olympus E-P2 before year's end, Leica M9 for September
There's not exactly much in the way of specifics on either of these just yet, but the usually-reliable French magazine, Chasseur d'Image, has seemingly revealed in its latest issue that Olympus will be rolling out its E-P1 followup, the E-P2, before the end of the year, and that Leica will be releasing its M8 successor, the M9, as soon as September. Video: Nikon Coolpix S1000pj projector-cam gets hands on, ads galore
The just-announced Nikon Coolpix S1000pj digicam / pico projector has been blowin' up the Interwebs this morning, and we have the video to prove it. First of all, there is a hands-on provided by What Digital Camera over in the UK, and aside from the projector they've uncovered a pretty straight forward digital shooter: 12 megapixel, 5x optical zoom, pretty standard dimensions, and a 2.7-inch LCD. The latest evolution of Griffin's Elan Form cases for iPhones is actually an interesting one: Elan Form Etch ($35) for the iPhone 3GS and 3G uses etched, legitimately nice looking leather with a pattern that could as easily be found in a high-end fashion store as an iPhone case. Researchers teach ASIMO and HRP-2 a bit of real life Frogger
Some George Costanza-types at Carnegie Mellon have repurposed their own hard earned knowledge of Frogger maneuvers at the university arcade into useful object avoidance techniques for robots. Palm's ad agency "loves that you're creeped out" by new TV spots
Advertising Age has taken a deep dive into Palm's latest string of unsettling, polarizing ads -- you know, the ones with the girl -- in an attempt to explain the company's intention with the creepy spots. VDSL-Streit: Telekom schaltet Regulierer ein

Noch ist das Mac tablet ein eher mythisches Wesen, was vor allem auch die Inhalte betrifft. Lediglich die Zusammenarbeit mit der Musikindustrie an einem interaktiven Album-Format namens "Cocktail" gilt als sicher. Die Trennung von Eric Schmidt zu diesem Zeitpunkt könnte allerdings auch mit dem Mac tablet zusammenhängen.

Security Update: GarageBand 5.1 erschienen
Mit der soeben erschienenen Version 5.1 von GarageBand schließt Apple ein potenzielles Sicherheitsleck des Programms im Zusammenspiel mit Safari. Bisher war es so, dass GarageBand beim Programmstart Safaris Voreinstellungen dahingehend ändert, dass der Browser Cookies von allen Webseiten akzeptiert. FTC untersucht weiterhin Verbindungen zwischen Apple und Google
Gestern gab Apple per Pressemitteilung bekannt, dass Googles CEO Eric Schmidt Apples Aufsichtsrat verlassen werde, da es angesichts sich überschneidender Kernmärkte zu Interessenkonflikten kommen könnte. Nun aber findet sich auf der Website zum Spiel die Möglichkeit, einen Newsletter namens “Antaloor Post” zu abonnieren. Was der Newsletter beinhaltet, ist bislang noch nicht klar.

OpenGL 3.2 mit Geometry Shader ist da
Um eine Grafikkarte zum Arbeiten zu bringen muss man eine speziell davor vorgesehene API nutzen, die die Verbindung zwischen dem Betriebssystem und der GPU herstellt. US-Videostreamingdienst Netflix soll das iPhone erobern
In den USA wird Netflix durchaus zu den iTunes-Konkurrenten gezählt. Die Firma verleiht DVDs per Post, bietet aber auch einen Streaming-Dienst namens "Watch Instantly" an, dessen Nutzung mit keinen Kosten zusätzlich zu der monatlichen Netflix-Abogebühr verbunden ist. Chi-Hua Chien, vom Kleiner Perkins' iFund (Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers) hielt anläßlich des iPhoneDevCamp 3 einen interessante Vortrag für Freunde von Facts and Figures. Neben anderen kleinen Goldklumpen offenbarte seine Präsentation, dass die Rate des Wachstums von iPhone Verkäufen und nachfolgender AppStore-Käufe bereits das frühere Wachstum von iTunes und iPod übersteigen. Die Präsentation offenbart auch, dass der Kleiner Perkins iFund bei einer Anzahl von 4.000 überprüften Ideen bis jetzt sieben Gesellschaften gegründet hat. Am Ende der dreitägigen Veranstaltung wurden den teilnehmenden Entwicklern noch 54 iPhone Anwendungen und verwandte Projekte demonstriert, sowie eine Reihe von iPhone App-Entwickler-Preise vergegeben.

The latest story making the rounds is that Apple is soon going to approve a native Netflix app for the iPhone and iPod touch. While we'd love to see this, we think there might be some pretty significant hurdles for the Netflix team to overcome. Namely that Apple doesn't like competition (or duplication) of its apps on the iPhone and has expressly forbidden it in the past. Apple banned Podcaster from the App Store because iTunes plays podcasts for instance.
Apple started allowing iTunes to download movies over the iPhone and iPod touch in the latest update. Netflix also allows you download movies over the network for a price. Additionally, Apple usually parlays a 30% take on apps sold through apps (Amazon Kindle exempted). We aren't feeling it.

Apple posts GarageBand 5.1 Update
Apple today released GarageBand 5.1 Update, which it says addresses general compatibility issues, improves overall stability, and fixes a number of other minor issues along with an addressing an important security issue that allowed third-party to track usage of the app. According to the documentation, the specific issues addressed include the ability to add GarageBand track effects and Audio Unit

Review: atMonitor
I recently wrote a small guide to Activity Monitor, which looked at the statistics and system details that Activity Monitor tracks. While Apple's approach to an all-in-one interface for managing system processes will work for many people, it is not the best by far. For one, it lacks some commonly used features, such as temperature monitoring, that along with system process monitoring tell you the state of hardware in your system. There are a variety of monitoring programs out there, but a relatively new one that has come to my attention is atMonitor: a freeware utility that includes many features not found in Activity Monitor.

We've always lusted after Dell's high-zoot Precision M6400 mobile workstation, and now we've got yet another reason to save all these nickels and dimes in the sock drawer: the company's adding AMD's new ATI FirePro M7740 graphics processor to the mix. Samsung M1 PMP to challenge Zune HD with some Tegra of its own?
Samsung's launched a teaser page for its YP-M1 media player (look familiar?), and while a 3.3-inch AMOLED touchscreen is impressive in its own right, it's the mention of a NVIDIA chipset that has us most intrigued, especially given Samsung's earlier promise that a Tegra-based device was in the works. Everyone and their uncle Steve uses WinCE terminals to execute cashless transactions these days, and while you'd expect Apple to remedy that right quick, the Square credit card reader has beaten it to the punch. A quick note on deleted Stacks in the Dock
Every now and then, a quick mis-click around the Dock can result in an item being deleted. For Applications this can be quickly remedied by moving the item back to the Dock; however, many people have asked about how to get a Stack working in the Dock again, since they appear to be a more complicated feature.
