Video: New Palm Pre ad takes serene approach, just goes with the flow
When we last saw this fair-faced Pre spokesperson, she was sitting on a rock in an otherwise open field playing choreagrapher to a sea of robed individuals encircling her. This latest ad takes a decidedly simpler approach reminiscent of the vibe set in the Meet the Pre series, though we can't say for sure her if her followers aren't just waiting off-camera for the next directive. Apple wins MacBook Pro, Cinema Display trademarks
Apple has won a collection of important design trademarks from the European Trademark and Design Office, divided between two major products. A full 30 belong to the unibody MacBook Pro, which uses a unique chassis built out of a single block of aluminum. Some interesting news coming out of VentureBeat (via Giz) on the state of Apple's inhouse processor development as it relates to tablets:

DirecTV working on iPhone app for streaming NFL games
DirecTV has disclosed plans to launch an iPhone app, Supercast Mobile, with a focus on NFL content. Users will be able to view any NFL Sunday Ticket game, except for those excluded by local blackout rules. Verhandlung im Fall Apple vs. Psystar auf Januar 2010 verschoben
Nachdem Psystar vor einigen Wochen Insolvenz angemeldet hatte, legte dies den Verdacht nahe, dass sich auch die Verhandlung im Fall Apple vs. Psystar verschieben werde. Miyoshi rolls out wireless keyboard with built-in touchpad
Well, it may not quite match the likes of Logitech's diNovo edge in either form or function, but this new wireless keyboard from Miyoshi does nonetheless pack all the basics, and a slightly lower price tag than some of its competitors. 60% of businesses to avoid Windows 7
Despite Microsoft's hopes for Windows 7, most companies are likely to pass on the system entirely, a study today suggests. Of the more than 1,000 companies involved in the ScriptLogic investigation, 60 percent say they have no plans to upgrade at all, while 34 percent don't expect to move on the platform until sometime in 2010. Only 5.4 percent actually plan to update in 2009.

T-Mobile, Orange arranging to sell UK iPhones
O2's UK exclusivity deal for the iPhone may be coming to an end within the next few months, T-Mobile suggests. The latter company says that it is already in talks with Apple, and could begin carrying the iPhone 3G within a matter of months. The iPhone 3GS has not been mentioned by T-Mobile so far, nor is it said to have been brought up by Orange, also rumored to be pushing for UK sales.

Judge puts Psystar suit on track for January trial
Apple's licensing infringement lawsuit against Psystar is progressing again, with the trial now scheduled for January 11, 2010. The proceedings had been delayed due to Psystar's bankruptcy filing, which the company recently moved to drop after the Florida court decided the Apple suit would still be allowed to continue.

Dirty Little Secret: TomTom car adapter "should" work with iPod Touch as well
Macworld last week got a few secrets out of Tom Murray, Vice President of Market Development for TomTom. The meat of it was that the TomTom's Car kit wasn't just going to just be a dumb plastic car mount for the iPhone. The device will also have a dedicated speaker and GPS (and maybe some gyroscopes). $500 Acceleglove promises to finally bring Rad Racer to life
Data gloves may have come a long way since the days of the Power Glove, but they've also tended to get pretty expensive as more and more tech found their way into 'em. The folks at AnthroTronix look to be doing their small part to change that with their new Acceleglove, however, which packs a not too crazy price tag of $500 and, according to the company, all the features you'd expect to find on a $5,000 glove. Nvidia recommends updating GeForce FX 4800, GTX 285 Mac drivers ASAP
Macworld is reporting that the current NVIDIA GeForce FX 4800 and GeForce GTX 285 drivers won't work with the upcoming Mac OS 10.5.8 update. You'll need to update to the newest driver firmware before running the 10.5.8 update (which is apparently arriving soon!) or else you'll get a kernel panic upon restart.

Apple blocking push notifications on Hactivated iPhones?
Is Apple trying to block Push Notifications on SIM-unlocked iPhones running on non-Apple blessed carriers? Czech-based PoweryBase reports that Hactivated iPhones don't get a response from Apple's Push Notification servers.
Further investigation shows that Apple may be blocking Push Notification Service on purpose to fight users who break carrier monthly plan agreements and unofficially unlocking these subsidized devices to work with other carriers which Apple is not partnered with.

Voice memo bug impacts iPhone users
iPhone owners continue to be affected by a bug in the device's voice recording software, discussion on Apple's support forums indicates. The problem manifests itself when trying to play back a voice memo; although a memo will show the expected runtime, hitting play may not produce any audio. The scrub bar remains locked at 0:00, even though the play button toggles to show the pause option.

Apple bringt angeblich im Oktober - also passend zum Weihnachtsgeschäft - ein Touchscreen-Netbook mit 9,7" Bildschirmdiagonale auf den Markt. Entsprechende Informationen will die China Times (Übersetzung hier bei Mac Rumors) aus Herstellerkreisen haben. Bei den drei Firmen Foxconn, Wintek und Dynapack sollen diesbezüglich bereits Vorbestellungen für Teile und dergleichen eingegangen sein.
Gerüchte um ein Apple Subnote- oder Netbook sind nicht neu und köcheln seit Jahren immer wieder hoch. Dennoch scheint der momentane Zeitpunkt wie geschaffen dafür, mit einem weiteren kompakten Handheld-Gerät an den Erfolg des Trios App Store, iPod touch und iPhone anzuknüpfen.
Laut der China Times will sich Apple nicht mit Herstellern wie Acer oder Asus im Niedrigpreissegment bis 500 Dollar herumstreiten, sondern peilt einen, unter anderem durch den Touchscreen begründeten höheren Preis um die 800 Dollar an.

The translations are a little sketchy but the ChinaTimes is basically saying that in October, Apple will launch a $800, 10-inch tablet. Most of this information has been published before so it isn't certain whether or not this is a rehash of that information or from new sources. The biggest question at this point is which OSX will it run? Will it be the Mac OS, the iPhone OS or some hybrid? The iPod launches are usually in September so a iPod platform device would indicate some deviation. Also, Apple's tablet patents seem to indicate that they are working on a full MacOS tablet.

Apollo 11 moon mission to be recreated on the web
While the shuttle Endeavour is having a tough time getting off of the launch pad, the Apollo 11 moon mission should proceed as scheduled later this week. Some 40 years after Neil Armstrong and a host of behind-the-scenes workers at NASA made JFK's vision a reality, WeChooseTheMoon.org is being launched to recreate the whole spectacle. Starting a full 90 minutes prior to the 40th anniversary (that's 8:02AM on July 16th), the site will be fully operational, tracking the capsule's route from Earth to the moon. Ericsson betreibt künftig Telefonnetz von Sprint Nextel

App Store: Rabiate Würmer und rasende Bären

Thousands queue up for iPhone 3GS launch in Singapore
The iPhone 3GS launch in Singapore has attracted huge crowds, with the first customer reportedly waiting in line for 11 hours. Studie: Markt für Flachbildschirme wächst bis 2016 nur gering
Der Markt für Flachbildschirme wird bis 2016 jedes Jahr durchschnittlich nur um ein Prozent wachsen. Dies geht aus einer von DisplaySearch veröffentlichten Studie hervor. Als Folge der schlechten Wirtschaftslage wird der Branchenumsatz 2009 gegenüber dem Vorjahr um 20 Prozent auf 82,6 Milliarden Dollar sinken. Für 2010 erwarten die Marktforscher wieder ein Wachstum von 13 Prozent.

Lenovo IdeaPad S12 not-a-netbook sized up
The Lenovo IdeaPad S12 just started shipping last week, and it looks like units have begun to arrive -- the folks at GottaBeMobile just posted up some quick impressions of their review unit. Sadly, it's sporting Intel GMA 950 graphics instead of the NVIDIA Ion chipset that's available for $50 extra, so it runs pretty much like every other 1.6GHz Atom machine with 1GB of RAM in the world. LG's next-gen Chocolate BL40 teased on video, looks good enough to eat
We can't verify the authenticity of the video, but it seems a little far-fetched to believe that even LG diehards out there would've been able to toil away making a very legit-looking promo piece for the company's recently-teased new Chocolate in such a short period of time -- so we're tentatively going to say we think we're looking at the real thing here. Video zeigt Interface-Änderungen in Snow Leopard
Über die Softwareaktualisierung hatte Apple vor einigen Tagen eine neue Version von Snow Leopard (Build 10A402) verteilt. Wie erwartet, geht es mittlerweile hauptsächlich um das Beseitigen von Fehlern und das Verbessern der Stabilität. Es finden aber auch Anpassungen der Oberfläche statt - und da keine Anpassung so gering sein kann, dass sie kein Video rechtfertigt, gibt es bei YouTube ein Video, welches die optischen Änderungen gegenüber dem letzten Build zeigt.

Singapore iPhone 3GS launch - 3000 people in line?
The iPhone 3GS went on sale in Singapore over the weekend. While lines in the US weren't quite as impressive as previous years, it certainly appears that the number of iPhone fans is growing in Asia's busiest port. A SSD for MacBook Air in Xserve
When introducing the new Xserve Nehalem, Apple unveiled that in addition to the (only) 3 SATA or SAS HD, one could also add a SSD; a feature that a reader from XLR8Yourmac decided to investigate.
If the information was in fact available, we did not initially spotted it. This SSD offering 128 GB is in fact a 1.8" HD model in SATA Flex format, the same (exotic) format used in MacBook Air. If you are already thinking of getting one to upgrade your MacBook Air, you might think twice: performance levels are lower than other (cheaper) models, and it costs 500 USD. this is another example of the weird choice made by Apple from time to time why not having a SATA port for adding high performance SATA SSDs?

New Adaptor To Replace the SuperDrive by a HD/SSD
With the release of Unibody MacBook and adoption of SATA-based SuperDrive, we tried to replace the optical drive by a second storage unit. Our first test was a success but required skills, and both the procedure and equipments were not optimal.
Over the last six months, new solutions were released after the first system we tested; MCE Optibay. We were disappointed by their adaptor for two reasons. First the price: 120 Euro is far too expensive to our point of view. The second one will be illustrated below. Our partner Macway announced a new system, so we decided to evaluate it.

AS almost every weeks, new SSDs are unveiled or launched. It is now new models, M225 series, from Crucial to be announced for an official availability on July 20th :
If the PR does not provide any information related to the controller nor its cache memory, performance levels are similar to those expected from high-end models:
64 GB model: reading: 200 MB/s and writing: 150 MB/s
128 GB model: reading: 250 MB/s and writing: 190 MB/s
256 GB model: reading: 250 MB/s and writing: 200 Mo/s
So, within the next two weeks we should learn more, and especially their price.

iPhone in China: Ready, Set, Go... but Without Wi-Fi Function!
According to the last rumors, Apple finalized the official launch of the iPhone in China. However, he company will have to apply some restrictions to its popular handheld to follow local regulations. After Morocco requesting the GPS to be disabled, China wants its local iPhone to have Wi-Fi function disabled. According to some sources, it could be a way to better control information sent by iPhone owners in China (a lesson following the recent demonstrations in Iran?). It's been a while since we've heard anything about FujiFilm's FinePix Real 3D camera, but as the twin-lensed shooter nears that scheduled September release some more details are spilling out -- including the price, which will be "around $600" at launch. BenQ S6 MID back for vengeance... XP-style
The BenQ S6 MID didn't exactly light the world on fire when it was launched back in 2008, and although we assumed it had faded into irrelevance along with the rest of the category, it looks like the company's bringing it back -- preloaded with Windows XP instead of Linux. It actually makes a certain insane kind of sense, since the S6 is built on an Atom processor, but we're just not sure anyone wants to pay $424 for XP on a 4.8-inch screen with an 800MHz processor -- especially since you'll have to fly to Taiwan to pick one up.
