AT&T network delaying iPhone voicemail alerts?
Several reports suggest AT&T may be experiencing problems with delayed alerts for voicemail messages sent to iPhones. Tech support representatives provided more insight to Glenn Tenney, a computer security expert who recently noticed that many messages took days before being listed in the iPhone's visual voicemail.

Bridgestone set to make major push into e-paper business
Bridgestone's already showed off some fairly impressive e-paper displays, and gone into mass production with displays for inventory tags and whatnot, but it now looks like the company is now set to make its biggest push into the market yet. According to Tech-On, Bridgestone will be announcing details of its plans in July or August, but it appears that the announcement will concern e-paper displays for e-book readers, at least one of which will be A4 in size. EU roaming price caps come into effect
The previously promised cap on roaming rates for phone calls made from cellular devices went into effect today. The European Commission-mandated cap applies to calls made throughout the 27-country union, and is estimated to save consumers as much as 60 percent in cellular phone bills. Uniea reveals updated cases for iPhone 3GS
Uniea has announced three iPhone 3GS case updates and a new hip case. The U-Suit Premium, U-Skin, and U-Suit Folio Premium have all been upgraded. The U-Suit Folio Premium, a soft leather flip-case, now allows access to the headphone jack and the volume control. AT&T to offer BlueAnt Q1 Bluetooth headset
AT&T on Wednesday announced it will soon begin offering the BlueAnt Q1 voice controlled Bluetooth headset at its retail locations and online store. The headset, first released at the start of April, has noise-cancelling functionality and allows users to control it via voice commands. GSM Pre to launch on O2 in UK next week
We heard earlier this morning that the GSM Pre was set for a UK launch, and now it sounds like things are coming together: The Guardian says the Palm's baby will launch on O2. NVIDIA said to be prepping Ion 2 for late 2009
NVIDIA obviously isn't doing much talking about it itself just yet, but Fudzilla apparently has it on good authority that the company is indeed already hard at work on Ion 2, which promises to bring with it plenty of improvements over the already impressive Ion chipset. Chief among those is a decreased die size, "much faster graphics," and more than twice the shaders of the original Geforce 9400M /MCP79 chipset that the current Ion is based on (which uses 16 shaders). Not many more details than that, unfortunately, but NVIDIA is supposedly looking to launch Ion 2 by the end of this year -- although not before it sells plenty more Ion 1s, of course.[Via

We've seen interesting 3D peripherals like the Novint Falcon combine multi-axis movement and force feedback to create immersive experiences in the past, but a new research project called the H.VR Editor takes the idea to the next level, allowing you to "touch" and interact with CGI objects. Sprint matches Verizon's pace, launching BlackBerry Tour on July 12
So much for exclusivity, eh? Sprint is staying toe-to-toe with Verizon in the race to get the BlackBerry Tour to market, launching the consensus hottest RIM device to date on July 12 for $199.99 on contract after rebates. One downside to consistant iPhone 3GS form factor: Clones.
There is plenty of upside to Apple's choice not to change the design of the iPhone3GS from the iPhone 3G. All docks and accessories work between models, you know exactly where all of the buttons are on the device and "it ain't broke", right?

O2 UK sells out of iPhone 3GS
O2 UK has sold out of the iPhone 3GS, according to the carrier's inventory tracker. Citing "phenomenal demand," the company says it has run out of stock for every ordering method, including online, by phone and at retail locations. Howto: Install Quicktime 10 in Snow Leopard
So we've been playing with the Snow Leopard for awhile but didn't know how to update to QuicktimeX (or Quicktime 7) - Snow Leopard comes with Quicktime 6 by default. Turns out, it's pretty easy. Just open a Quartz compozer file from your computer with Quicktime and it will prompt you to update. To find a .qtz file simply do a Spotlight search.

NVIDIA to Introduce New Desktop Graphic Cards this Fall
According to VR Zone, NVIDIA should refresh its graphic cards dedicated to desktop computers in October. Two new entry-level GPU should be launched at that time, today known as G210 and GT 220. The main feature of those GPU will be their 40 nm engraving process which should decrease price as well as increase performance without affecting power consumption.
The GT 220 GPU will feature 48 units clocked at 625 MHz, while shaders will be clocked at 1375 MHz. This card might be NVIDIA's answer to the popular Radeon HD 4770, associating performance, low power consumption and price.

Aldi bringt 12-Zoll-Netbook mit AMD-Prozessor und HDMI

Canada's other carriers building out new networks for iPhone
This would certainly be big news for Canadians if someone isn't getting their lines crossed. The Toronto Star Business Section is reporting that Bell and Telus, the "other two" national carriers are building out HSDPA networks so that they can carry GSM-class devices like the iPhone. Rogers, the sole Canadian iPhone carrier and GSM provider currently enjoys a monopoly on the device in Canada.

iPhone 3.1 Beta available for download
No word yet on what build 7C97D fixes (or breaks). We're hoping not to lose our tether.
Update: Baseband update to 05.08.01 (so if you want to do a SIM unlock in the future, you might want to wait). Also tether and MMS working (mms enabled by default but still issues with AT&T). Startup/Shutdown times dramatically improved, though some people are reporting issues with iTunes playback. Some screenshots also posted to the comments below.

Neue Roaming-Preise für Handygespräche und SMS ab heute gültig
Ab heute gelten niedrigere Auslandspreise für Handygespräche und SMS innerhalb der EU. Telefonate nach Deutschland aus dem EU-Ausland kosten nun 51 Cent statt 54 Cent pro Minute. Ankommende Gespräche schlagen mit 22 Cent statt mit 26 Cent pro Minute zu Buche. Für eine aus dem Ausland versendete SMS werden statt bisher 39 Cent nur noch 13 Cent fällig.

Apple hat das vierte Update für die aktuelle iPhoto-Version veröffentlicht. iPhoto 8.0.4 ist als 102 Megabyte grosser Download über die Software-Aktualisierung erhältlich und wird folgendermassen beschrieben:

Kindle's German launch stalled by T-Mobile and Vodafone?
A news item is circulating the internet reportedly from German business weekly Wirtschaftswoche claiming Amazon is facing a major hurdle in trying to bring its Kindle to Deutschlan. The problem at hand? The two big wireless providers in the country, Vodafone and T-Mobile, are both saying "nein" to providing Whispernet service, and apparently the issue has to do with how much money Amazon was willing to give -- unsurprising, if true. Radeon HD 4890 1.0 GHz Faster than NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285
Hardware.fr performed a test of the new Radeon HD 4890 clocked at 1.0 GHz, then compared it to the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285.
In its original version clocked at 850 MHz, the Radeon HD 4890 was clearly slower than the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285. However, thanks to 150 MHz added to its clock speed, the Radeon HD 4890 1.0 GHz is now taking back the lead and the krone. Of course, it will further increase the power consumption of such high-end graphic card models.

Apple seeds iPhone SDK 3.1 beta to developers
Right on the heels of the iPhone 3.0 firmware update, Apple has released a beta version of the iPhone SDK 3.1 to developers. Although the SDK is still in the testing phase, Apple included approximately 15 new OpenGL tools for 3D modeling and graphics, according to MobileCrunch. DYMO intros LabelWriter 450 label printers

The Pre gets PlayStation gaming and more thanks to ZodTTD (video)
If you're familiar with the emulation scene (and let's be honest, you are reading Engadget), then you know the name ZodTTD -- the brain behind some of the best jailbroken emus for the iPhone, including variations on the PlayStation, Game Boy Advance, and most importantly the Turbografx-16. Now the master-hacker has brought his goods to the Pre, cooking up a version of psx4all on the Palm device, with the aforementioned GBA and TG16 ports on the way! Interestingly, he reports that the performance on the Pre is actually better than that of the iPhone 3GS, and of course he's hacked access to the keyboard, allowing for (more) proper control of games. Apple approves hot dog app, rejects Soviet puzzle app
Apple has reversed its rejection of Metaversal Studios' "Hot Dog Down a Hallway" app for the iPhone, while rejecting egrev.lab's "15 with Soviet Leaders" puzzle game. An update to Hot Dog Down a Hallway was recently rejected by Apple for "explicit content," despite the approval of earlier versions that were even given an age rating of nine and up on the App Store.

CSS-3D-Verzerrungen vorerst nur für WebKit unter Snow Leopard

China delays plan for mandatory "Green Dam" internet filter
