Microsoft reportedly bans netbooks with hybrid storage systems, MSI's Wind U115 caught in the middle
We've never been fans of Microsoft's ability to put hard limits on netbooks with Windows XP; it's this fact alone that has kept the entire sector from moving forward in terms of specification advancement. Though, we'd probably wager that MSI is even more livid, as bit-tech has reportedly learned that the company's Wind U115 will soon be yanked from store shelves. The reason? Least talked about feature of iPhone 3? Stereo Bluetooth 2.0 (AD2P)
The iPhone 3 rumormill is in hyperdrive right now but one feature that has been left largely uncovered is the new iPhone's use of Bluetooth 2.0. It isn't just the new iPhone either, both second generation iPhone and iPod will also recieve the software update to allow them to use Bluetooth 2.0.
The iPhone's new SDK will allow developers to do a lot with the new Bluetooth interface. You'll be able to transfer contacts as well as files and play games via the interface. You'll likely be able to print and fax from the iPhone wirelessly as well. Of course, you'll also be able to tether your MacBook using Bluetooth to use the Internet as well.
But the most appealing feature of Bluetooth 2.x is the A2DP stereo Bluetooth. This will allow you to use stereo Bluetooth headsets with your iPhone for both calling (via Skype too!) and just listening to your iPhone around the house without a cord. It will also work with compatible car stereos.

Lengda shows off stainless steel X10K netbook, 11.1-inch CULV model
Lengda isn't exactly one of the best known netbook manufactures around, but it looks to have made a decent enough showing for itself at Computex, where it had its new stainless steel X10K netbook on display (pictured above), along with its new 11.1-inch CULV-based M11A laptop. The former of those is basically your average 10.2-inch netbook, but with a bit of added weight from that stainless steel enclosure (and interchangeable cover), although the company is apparently also looking at producing an aluminum version. DoubleTwist gets prime advertising location: SF Flagship Apple Store
DoubleTwist, DVD Jon's application for opening up iTunes to allow other devices access, just got the best and perhaps most ironic of adverising spacesright on the SF Apple Store. The ad space is owned by the BART and DoubleTwist is a legit application so there isn't much Apple can do get rid of it.
Perhaps next time the contract comes up, they can outbid him and put up some new itunes ads?

Apple Senior Vice President, Industrial Design, Jonny Ive received an honorary doctor of fine arts degree from the Rhode Island School Design this week. The designer of the iMac, iPod and iPhone shared the honor with Catarina Fake, the co-founder of Flickr, former RISD President Roger Mandle, and sculptor Betty Woodman.
“It is a rare and precious thing to discover what you love,” said Jonathan Ive, “I do hope you can be very faithful to your gift and confident of its value.”

Oh, hey, look at that: you can buy a Pre now! As of 8:00AM on the East Coast, the phone went on sale at Sprint stores, with Best Buy, Radio Shack and Wal-Mart also retailing the phone today as Saturday dawns across the country. After Sprint's invite only pre-Pre launch event last night, we still saw plenty of folks lined up outside Sprint's "flagship" New York store in the Flatiron Building before the doors opened. Apparently people started queuing around 5:00AM, with Chris Lee and Randy Williams the first through the door -- replacing a Treo Pro and a HTC Mogul, respectively. MobileMe 2.0: Ein Wunschzettel für die neue Version

Tetris wird 25 Jahre alt
Es gibt wohl kaum einen Computerbesitzer, der noch nichts von Tetris gehört hat. MacBook (Pro): Nach Update auf 10.5.7 kein Bild mehr
Leider berichten uns derzeit viele Leser das gleiche Problem, von daher kann man davon ausgehen, dass es sich um ein Problem des letzten Updates von Mac OS X auf Version 10.5.7 handelt.
Bei allen betroffenen Personen ist das Phänomen das gleiche:
Nach einem erfolgreichen Update auf 10.5.7 startet der Rechner neu und entweder bleibt der Display sofort schwarz oder erst nach einem wiederholten Neustart.

Die Sims 3 für den Mac veröffentlicht
Seit kurzem gibt es den dritten Teil der legendären "Die Sims"-Serie. EA bemühte sich dabei den Titel für viele Plattformen gleichzeitig auf den Markt zu bringen. So auch für den Mac. Die Mac-Version wird über ASH vertrieben und ab sofort für rund 50 Euro ausgeliefert. Das Spiel soll vor allem durch seine neu gewonnen Vielfalt überzeugen und eine neue offene, lebendige Nachbarschaft mit sich bringen.

Computex offers Chinese gadget kitsch aplenty
Computex may finally be winding down, but with most of the big product announcements now out of the way, that only means there's a better chance for some of the hidden treasures of the show to shine, like this collection of Chinese-styled gadgets discovered by our pals at Engadget Chinese. That includes a stylish "Nah" box made of real china that actually contains a 1.5TB hard drive, a bamboo sheet that supposedly acts as a laptop cooling pad, a pair of vase-shaped speakers, various mice decorated with Chinese opera masks and, of course, no shortage of eye-catching USB drives. Scosche macht dem iPod shuffle Knöpfe
Wer sich einen iPod shuffle der neuesten Generation kauft weiß eigentlich, dass der Player sich ausschließlich über den kleinen ins Ohrhörerkabel eingearbeiteten Schalter bedienen lässt. Dennoch mag es im Nachhinein Gründe dafür geben, dass man gerne einen anderen Ohrhörer anschließen will oder ganz gerne Bedienelemente am Player selbst hätte. Hier hat der Hersteller Scosche eine pfiffige Idee.
Der in Weiß und Anthrazit erhältliche tapSTICK ist eine robuste Kunststoffhülle mit integrierten Knöpfen, die über den Shuffle geschoben wird. Dieser wird dadurch etwa ein Drittel länger und etwas dicker, dafür hat man die Bedienelemente direkt an der Oberseite des iPod. Der Clip wird hinten ausgespart und kann weiter benutzt werden, der Anschluss für die Ohrhörer wird nach oben durchgeschleift.
Scosche will den tapSTICK im Juli ausliefern, in den USA steht der Verkaufspreis mit 30 Dollar bereits fest.

FT: Cheaper iPhones en route
The Financial Times today said that Apple would be dropping the price of its entry level iPhone.
Apple plans to introduce a cheaper version of its popular iPhone as soon as Monday, in a move that could dramatically increase the company’s share of the market for web-surfing devices, people familiar with the initiative said on Thursday.
This is is probably an expansion of the 4GB iPhone rumor we heard last week.
Morgan Stanley analyst Kathryn Huberty said that a $100 cut could double demand for the iPhone.

Desperate for a Pre, woman uses car to create Sprint's first drive-thru store
NBC Chicago is reporting that an elderly woman who "apparently couldn't wait to get her Palm Pre" from a local Sprint store -- and yeah, we're pretty sure that's not the case -- decided to plow her right through the entrance. Palm Pre: takeaways from Premier night
Tethering is not supported and Sprint has no plans to offer a tethering add-on. The company says it just isn't a very good user experience and would prefer folks added on a data card line instead.
About 1,000 invitations were sent out to randomly-selected Premier customers for this evening's events at ten locations across the country. We've heard intermittent reports of folks getting in with no invite, but the Chicago store was staying firm.
We were told that no store selling Pres this evening would be out of stock for tomorrow, but all bets are off once the floodgates open on Saturday. Company-owned stores got the lion's share of stock while Best Buys and Radio Shacks were held to lower levels, so your best bet over the weekend is likely a Sprint store.

We just got to witness history, folks: Alfredo Rodriguez waited an hour in the miserable New York rain for the privilege of snapping up his Sprint store's very first retail Pre at this evening's invite-only Premier customers event.
