AMD roadmap shocker reveals new Turion, Athlon, Sempron mobile CPUs

Researchers create a nanobot-controlling "brain"
Our inevitable incorporation into the gray goo inches ever closer today, as researchers in Japan have developed a chemical brain that can control up to eight nanomachines -- and one day could control thousands. The "brain" is actually a ring of 17 duroquinone molecules, which together measure just two nanometers across. Each molecule can be rotated to four different positions, controlled by the state of the center molecule. HTC Advantage X7510 now up for pre-order

EU segnet Doubleclick-Übernahme durch Google ab
Die EU-Kommission hat wie zuvor vermutet offiziell grünes Licht für den Kauf des Online-Werbevermarkters Doubleclick durch Google gegeben. Die im November 2007 eingeleitete Untersuchung der Kommission habe ergeben, dass sich die Übernahme wahrscheinlich weder in dem Segment Adserving noch in dem Segment Vermittlung von Online-Werbung nachteilig auswirken werde, heißt es in einer Mitteilung. Minority Report-like interface gets demoed at CeBIT

Gesetz gegen unlautere Telefonwerbung wird verschärft
Bundesjustizministerin Brigitte Zypries (SPD) und Bundesverbraucherschutzminister Horst Seehofer (CDU) haben heute einen Maßnahmenkatalog gegen unerlaubte Telefonwerbung vorgestellt, der Verbraucher besser als bisher schützen soll. Laut Zypries wird die geplante Verschärfung des Gesetzes "mit Sicherheit noch in diesem Jahr" in Kraft treten. Das Gesetz weitet das Widerrufsrechts auf alle telefonisch abgeschlossenen Verträge aus. Demnach soll der Verbraucher künftig am Telefon abgeschlossene Zeitschriften-, Zeitungs- und Lottoverträge innerhalb von 14 Tagen widerrufen können. Bis dato sind Zeitschriftenabos und Lottoverträge vom zweiwöchigen Widerrufsrecht ausgeschlossen.

ThruVision's T5000 camera peers beneath your clothes

Intel to Manufacture High Performance SSD
Source : DailytechIf Intel already manufactured SSD, the success was rather low due to the low storage capacity of the offer.
But Intel did not drop the project neither the potential juicy market, and will offer in a near future MLC chips-based SSDs in 1.8" and 2.5" format, with storage space ranging from 80 to 160GB. The goal is to compete with Samsung-branded SSDs, while offering similar performance levels (100MB/s in reading and 70MB/s in writing mode).
Intel expects the price of SSD to drop by 40% this year, and then yearly by 50% in the future. So, SSD should become affordable for consumer electronic market by the end of the decade.

Apple's UK store and other European store fronts appear unaffected as the company seems set to bounce into another Apple Tuesday.
We call them Apple Tuesday because this is the day the company likes to introduce new products. However, merely because the store goes offline doesn't always mean new product releases.

Pixelmator als Photoshop-Herausforderer?
Charles Moore von Lowendmac hat die aktuelle Version des Grafikprogramms Pixelmator (1.1.3) getestet und kommt zu dem Ergebnis, dass die Software ein ernsthafter Konkurrent für die aktuelle Mac-Version von Photoshop-Elements ist. Moore lobt, dass die leistungsfähige Software auch auf seinem PowerBook G4 1.33 GHz schnellt startet und arbeitet. Das Core-Image-basierte Programm unterstützt Ebenen und zahlreiche Effekte, Moore vermisst allerdings ein wenig das seiner Ansicht nach sehr gute Set von Photo-Korrektur-Tools der aktuellen Version von Photoshop Elements.

Bochum: Nokia muss 59 Millionen Euro zurückzahlen

Apple hält ein SMC-Update (System Management Control) in der Version 1.0 für das MacBook Air bereit, das die Lüfter im MacBook Air besser regulieren soll. Gomite.com hat eine Satellitennavigationslösung für Apples iPhone bzw. den iPod touch vorgestellt, die den Webbrowser und das WLAN-Modul der Geräte nutzt, um durch die Hintertür die GPS-Funktion nachzurüsten. Wal-Mart is pulling plug on in-store gPC "experiment"

It's hard to know the real story here -- we'd hate to think of a bunch of Mr. and Mrs. Nice Persons taking home a gPC just to find it can't run that copy of Office or Half-Life 2 they were hoping to install -- but for whatever reason Wal-Mart is dropping its Linux "experiment" from store shelves and going back to selling the systems solely online. Apparently Wal-Mart did manage to sell out its entire stock of gPCs in the 600 stores that got them before pulling the plug, but the $199 computer just "wasn't what our customers were looking for," said Wal-Mart spokeswoman Melissa O'Brien.
