Apple veröffentlicht Sicherheitsupdate 2008-001
Sicherheitsaktualisierungen werden von Apple immer wieder veröffentlicht, um mögliche Lücken im Betriebssystem zu füllen und so den Rechner vor Fremdangriffen zu schützen. In der Nacht von Montag auf Dienstag veröffentlichte man nun das erste Sicherheitsupdate 2008 für Mac OS X 10.4.11 sowie 10.5 und 10.5.1. Security Update 2008-001 ist sowohl für PPC-Rechner als auch als Universal-Version verfügbar.

Samsung's latest mobile processor integrates 3D graphics acceleration

RIM affirms that BlackBerry services are down
Oh noes! BlackBerry addicts everywhere have reason to panic this afternoon, as their beloved network is indeed experiencing technical difficulties. Reportedly, an e-mail sent by RIM support account manager Bryan Simpson affirmed that a "critical severity outage" had taken place. Nach langem Warten ist es endlich soweit: Apple veröffentlichte Mac OS X 10.5.2 - das zweite große Update des Leoparden, in dem mehr als 125 Verbesserungen durchgeführt worden sein sollen. Das iPhone und der iPod touch eignen sich schon durch ihr Touchscreen hervorragend als "Spielekonsolen". What's an iPhone? 14.3M Windows Mobile phones sold in the past six months alone

Iris browser brings WebKit to Windows Mobile

Microsoft says "We got nuthin!" buys Danger/Sidekick platform
Microsft should really be scaring its shareholders and partners these days. First it throws almost $50 Billion at Yahoo! for a portfolio that largely mirrors the functionality (or supposed fuctionality) of its MSN properties and an advertising division that has the same issues that it does. Bluetooth via Wi-Fi
The Bluetooth standard has many advantages. It provides a reliable and secure connection between the two devices and facilitates easy data exchange.
However, in the age of Wi-Fi pre N, bluetooth suffers from poor performance -- voluminous data exchange will take a long time.
Things could soon change, with the Bluetooth protocol piggybacking Wi-Fi. The specifications of the "Alternate MAC / PHY" will be unveiled in 2009 and will, depending on requirements, automatically and transparently switch the protocol from bluetooth to Wi-Fi, which is on the same waveband.
This will be interesting because the bluetooth is much easier to configure for a point-to-point connection than Wi-Fi

Starbucks drops Tmobile and goes with AT&T AND free 2 hours of browsing, iPhone access?
Big news day today - especially for us coffee addicts. Starbucks has announced that it was dropping its T mobile wifi access points around the world and going with AT&T. The new deal will give free wireless access to Starbucks card holders and AT&T broadband users and charge about half of what T mobile charged for WiFi access. $3.99/visit or $20/month.
Now this deal has Apple written all over it for a number of reasons - not just because taking your MacBook to Starbucks will be a whole lot cheaper. Starbucks and AT&T are also iPhone partners. Starbucks sells it's music to iPhone and iPod Touch users through its Wifi Music store (now run by AT&T). AT&T is obviously the carrier for the iPhone.

MSN Direct now on Windows Mobile

Although MSN Direct has popped up in all sorts of devices over the years, we've always thought it belonged on cellphones, and it looks like Microsoft finally agrees -- it's announced a WinMo version of the auto-updating information system at MWC. The client uses your phone's data connection instead of the SPOT network to grab data -- but unlike other widget apps, the info is presented directly on the homescreen and auto-updates. Microsoft has got a technology preview of the app available now, no word on when or if it'll ever be standard fare.

Gleich drei Videos zu neuen iPhone bzw. iPod touch Applikationen haben wir im Anschluss für euch. Neben einer Demonstration des am Wochenende veröffentlichten Billiard-Spiels Pool haben wir zwei weitere, nicht minder sehenswerte Videos. Die Clips kommen vom "Lehrer-Pärchen" der appleiphoneschool. Zum einen widmen sich die beiden der hier von uns vorgestellten iFob-Applikation, zum anderen geben sie eine kurze Demo der Evolution RGB-Software. Letztere ist so sinnfrei wie genial und lässt sich in Wörtern nur schlecht beschreiben.

O2 will sein Mobilfunknetz deutlich ausbauen
O2 plant in Deutschland einen nahezu flächendeckenden Ausbau seines GSM-Netzes. Auch die Versorgung mit UMTS soll bis Ende 2009 auf 60 Prozent steigen. Putting the KT610 through its paces -- albeit in a crazy fast way -- we were completely underwhelmed by the interface speed and the screen, when open, is in a pretty odd position to actually read. LG Electronics hat auf dem Mobile World Congress in Barcelona die drei Slider-Handys KF700, KF600 und KF510 vorgestellt. Beim LG KF700 handelt es sich um ein Mulitmedia-Telefon mit drei verschiedenen Eingabemöglichkeiten. Das KF600 soll sich durch sein Bedienkonzept auszeichnen. Bericht: Yahoo bezeichnet Microsoft-Angebot als zu niedrig
Der Aufsichtsrat von Yahoo will am heutigen Montag offiziell über das Übernahmeangebot von Microsoft entscheiden. Vorab ist laut einem Bericht des Wall Street Journal durchgesickert, dass die Führungsetage einen deutlichen höheren Kaufpreis für eine Yahoo-Aktie für angemessen hält. Bitkom: Über zehn Millionen UMTS-Nutzer in Deutschland

Die Internetseite 9to5Mac will erfahren haben, dass Apple eine umfangreiche Preisreduzierung für die Produktlinien iPod touch und iPhone plant. So sollen pro Gerät die Preise um jeweils 100 US-Dollar fallen, das 8-GB-Modell des iPod touch werde im Zuge dieser Umstrukturierung gestrichen werden, so die Quelle der Seite. Yahoo lehnt Übernahmeangebot von Microsoft ab
Wie wir berichteten, hatte Microsoft dem Internetdienstleister Yahoo ein Übernahmeangebot in Höhe von 44.6 Milliarden US-Dollar gemacht. Nun berichtet das Wall Street Journal, die Yahoo-Chefetage habe nach einer Sitzung am Freitag das Angebot als viel zu niedrig eingestuft. Umgerechnet würde Microsofts Kaufangebot einem Preis von 31 US-Dollar pro Aktie entsprechen. Angeblich erwarte man bei dem Internetdienstleister allerdings mindestens einen Kaufpreis von 40 US-Dollar pro Aktie.

Earthlink verkauft WLAN-Business
Der WLAN-Anbieter Earthlink hat den Verkauf seines kommunalen WLAN-Business angekündigt. Intel Sued for Patent Infringement for Core 2 Duo CPUs

It would include all Core 2 Duo CPUs, the desktop, notebook and Xeon CPU models.
The foundation complaints that Intel Core 2 Duo micro-architecture is infringing WARF's United States Patent No. 5,781,752, entitled "Table Based Data Speculation Circuit for Parallel Processing Computer" and patented in 1998. As summarized by Michael Falk, WARF general counsel: "the technology significantly enhances opportunities for instruction level parallelism in modern processors, thereby increasing their execution speed."

Samsung hat auf dem Mobile World Congress 2008 ein weiteres Modell seiner Ultra Edition gezeigt. Das Handy ist für den schnellen HSDPA-Datentransfer mit bis zu 7,2 MBit vorbereitet. UMTS-Anschlusszahl in Deutschland bei 10 Millionen

But where is this damn 10.5.2?
At the end of 2007 we learned that the 10.5.2 Leopard update would be released at MWSF on January 15, 2008.
Later we heard that it would be delayed, however 3 weeks later there is still nothing.
Even though this release schedule has fallen through, Apple has been busy releasing beta versions to the developers, initially fixing big problems, then minor problems and then increasingly smaller.
We appreciate that they want to hatch for us something as perfect as possible, however never has an update been awaited with so much impatience. We can not say that Leopard is actually an unstable or unusable system, but there are many people who hope that it will regulate some small nuisances or recurring concern.
Apple has the habit of releasing new machines on Tuesdays - or sometimes on Wednesdays; for new systems and updates Apple also has a preference: Fridays - or sometimes Thursdays. Thus we hope that 10.5.2 will finally arrive at the end of this week.

LG's KT610 S60 smartphone with GPS: sounds good, looks like something

We know it's a 2.4-inch VGA flip with QWERTY based on Symbian v9.2 and S60 3rd edition feature pack 1. That's a damn good start before adding 3.6Mbps HSDPA and GPS navigation. As to the looks it's said to be "sleek" and "uniquely designed." Thanks LG, but that isn't quit enough information to form a mental picture now is it? We'll slap in some pics as soon as they roll in.

Feeder ist eine Anwendung, mit der RSS-Feeds nicht nur gelesen, sondern auch bearbeitet und erstellt werden können. Es unterstützt RSS- und iTunes-Podcast-Feeds und wurde in der aktuellen Version an Leopard angepasst. Außerdem wurde das Einfügen von Verweisen und die Verwendung von Vorlagen vereinfacht, die AppleScript-Unterstützung verbessert und eine Spezifizierung für einen Hauptserver für Anhänge und Bilder eingeführt. In der aktuellen Version klappt auch die Veröffentlichung per passwortlosem SFTP und bei Sparkle-Appcasts bietet Feeder die Möglichkeit, automatisch MD5-Checksummen und DSA-Signaturen hinzuzufügen.

HTC P3470 is only EDGE, but has GPS

Europeans looking for a lower-end GPS-equipped HTC phone have another option today, in the form of the P3470, previously known as the Pharos. While it only has quad-band EDGE and a 200MHz CPU, you can at least expect the usual complement of a 2 megapixel camera, 256MB ROM / 128MB RAM, microSD, Bluetooth 2.0, and a roomy enough 2.8-inch QVGA flush touchscreen (á la the Touch). It'll be out later this month on Orange in the UK, France, Spain, and the Netherlands, for €449 ($650 -- so much for the low-end price tag).

Apple sichert sich Markenschutzrechte auf Videospielsystem
Apple beabsichtigt offenbar, die Rechte an der Marke "Apple" auf weitere Bereiche auszudehnen. nanoDAB: portable DAB meets Bluetooth
