Gnome 2.22 mit Desktop-Effekten
Wie gewohnt ist sechs Monate nach Gnome 2.20 eine neue Version der Linux- und Unix-Desktop-Oberfläche erschienen. Gnome 2.22 bietet erstmals einige grafische Effekte. AMD finally getting "B3" Opterons out the door
Filed under: DesktopsIt hasn't exactly been the speediest of turnarounds but, according to Daily Tech, AMD is now finally getting its updated B3 stepping Opteron processors out into the hands of system integrators, making them the first K10-based Opteron processors to ship since the so-called TLB bug cropped up last December. What's more, while there's apparently only hard evidence of the Opterons (pictured at right), Daily Tech says that the B3 stepping Phenom processors are now shipping as well. Buy a blu-ray disk and watch it on the iPod
Source : CDR InfoAmong the possibilities offered by the AACS protection of the Blu-ray disks, one of them, Managed Copy, makes it possible in theory to be able to replicate the contents of the disk onto authorized media. Of course, this possibility was currently defined without any title.
Lionsgate wants to propose a similar function in partnership with the iTunes Store.
They intend to propose with their titles Blu-ray and HD-DVD a code which will make it possible that when the digital version is bought at the online Apple Store, that they will be also able to view it as well on the Apple TV a iPod.
This is an extension of the offer that Apple and Fox already propose with certain DVDs. We are unaware if the sale of Blu-ray will give access to the HD version on Apple TV.

Gibson says Guitar Hero violates patents, Activision says nuh-uh

We're not exactly clear on how Gibson's legal team managed to license all those brand names and guitar designs to Activision for this many Guitar Hero games before realizing that the company maybe-sorta had a patent on the idea, but here we are: Activision filed a lawsuit yesterday asking the US District Court for Central California to invalidate a 1999 Gibson patent on "simulating a musical performance," because apparently Gibson's bugging them about it since January. Acer Aspire 6920 and 8920G hands-on

We got a good long look at those new Gemstone Blue notebooks from Acer, the Aspire 6920 (16-inch) and 8920G (18.4-inch). We can't say we're crazy about the "CineTouch" controls to the left of the keyboard, and both laptops -- while certainly thin for their class -- are still bulky enough to make our chiropractor take pause. Northrop Grumman's laser system passes second major milestone

Indian Blackberry network to be shut down unless RIM allows government snooping

Über eine Pressemeldung gab Apple heute bekannt, dass für die Software-Werkzeuge zur Entwicklung von iPhone-Software bis heute bereits 100.000 Downloads verzeichnet wurden. Over 100,000 download iPhone SDK
Apple has confirmed that in excess of 100,000 iPhone developers have downloaded the beta iPhone Software Development Kit (SDK) in the first four days since its launch on March 6.
The iPhone SDK furnishes developers with the same set of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and tools that Apple uses to create its native applications for the iPhone and iPod touch.
“Developer reaction to the iPhone SDK has been incredible with more than 100,000 downloads in the first four days,” said Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide product marketing.

Catalyst 8.3: Hotfix für AGP-Grafikkarten

Computacenter erzielt in Deutschland Rekordergebnis

Robotic drum "teacher" trains the next Bonham

An MIT researcher has developed a tool for students learning to play the drums which can speed up the time it takes for newcomers to pick up the instrument. The device, a robotic arm designer Graham Grindlay calls the "Haptic Guidance System" (or HAGUS), uses a drumstick fastened to a set of motors which a user holds while being led on beat. A brace holds the arm in place while the machine plays back a pre-recorded pattern -- in studies, Grindlay found that students with no drumming experience were able to hit the drum 18 percent more effectively after using the HAGUS. Dual-Core-Sempron jetzt auch in Deutschland

So you were wondering if Apple was going to spread an extra thick layer of security over the new version 2.0 of the iPhone software, you know - to keep the 1,000,000 unlocked versions from being updated and from being customers at the App Store?
Yeah, we didn't think so. iPhone 2.0 is already hacked. Version 3 and 4, though just twinkles in Apple's eye? Cracked too.
The whole "security" thing? Kinda a joke at this point.
The real issue for Apple is that they are getting a bad rep from a security standpoint - which will seriously hurt them in the enterprise.

iPhone soll ab Freitag in Österreich erhältlich sein
Zumindest die österreichischen Medien sind sich einig: Ab Freitag soll das iPhone über T-Mobile in Österreich erhältlich sein. Der Gerätepreis liegt angeblich wie in Deutschland bei 399 (8 GB) bzw. 499 Euro (16 GB), Tarife sollen ab etwa 50 Euro angeboten werden. Several considerations about the Time Capsule
Over the weekend we have made a number of tests concerning the real performance of the Time Capsule:
- We confirm that the disk WD Green Power seems a perfect choice for this device. It is silent and contrary to other owners of the 1 TB model, it heats up very little, far from the impression that one could cook eggs on it, even after a long period of use of the internal disk.
- All external disks connected to the Time CApsule can be used for Time machine backups.
- On the other hand, any copy from the internal disk to the external obligatorily passes through the computer that made the demand. This takes a long time and totally dependent on the quality of the network. We look forward to an update that will permit a duplication of the backup on the internal disk.
- We found that the Time Capsule seems to have a lower sensitivity than an Airport base station n. The connection

Mixed reality research takes a first hesitant step

Considering how much impact our gadgets already have on our day-to-day lives, we not sure we don't already live in a mixed reality environment, but researchers at the University of Illinois have created what they say is the first true mixed reality system based on a pendulum and its virtual counterpart. Both the real pendulum and the simulation mimic each others' movements exactly -- adjusting the motor affects the simulation and adjusting the parameters of the simulation affects the motor -- blurring the line between the real and the virtual. Curiously enough, Lenovo spent so much time glorifying the low power consumption of the EPEAT Gold qualified L174 (17-inch) and L197 Wide (19-inch) monitors, that it completely failed to dish out even a lackluster specifications list.
