Neben Sapphire hat auch PowerColor erste Informationen zu einer ATi Radeon HD 3850 mit einem Gigabyte Speicher und leicht angehobener GPU-Taktrate bekannt gegeben. Während bei Sapphire 33 MHz mehr GPU-Takt auf der Habenseite stehen, sind es bei PowerColor gleich 50 MHz.

Grafikchipmarkt wächst im 4. Quartal deutlich
Nach den Angaben der Marktforscher von Jon Peddie Research (JPR) wurden im vierten Quartal 2007 106,37 Millionen Grafikchips ausgeliefert – ein Anstieg um 27 Prozent gegenüber dem Vorjahresquartal. Im Vergleich zum dritten Quartal konnte ein Anstieg um 16 Prozent verzeichnet werden.

Dean Kamen's robo-arm awaits clinical trials

Apparently somewhere along the way Dean Kamen's robo-prosthestesis came to be called the Luke arm (care to guess why?), and according to the IEEE Spectrum blog, it's gearing up to undergo Food and Drug Administration trials pending DARPA's final thumbs-up, which would put the project in motion. iPhoneDrive mit erweiterten Funktionen
iPhoneDrive ermöglicht es in erster Linie, das iPhone oder den iPod touch auf dem Mac als "Speicherstick" zu nutzen, Notizen zwischen iPhone und Mac zu synchronisieren und Musik von Touch bzw. iPhone auf den Rechner zurück zu spielen. Mit der neuen Version 1.4 lassen sich nun auch Anruflisten, SMS-Nachrichten und Fotos auslesen. Ob diese Funktionen 20 Dollar Wert sind muss jeder für sich entscheiden, wer schon immer eines dieser Features gesucht hat wird das Geld sicher gerne aufbringen.

WiFi trial comes to San Francisco's BART trains
Filed under: Transportation, WirelessMerely hours after hearing that a contactless payment trial was going live on San Francisco's BART, along comes word that a test of a slightly different nature was also underway on the very same public transportation system. Reportedly, a recent Wi-Fi Rail installation on a select stretch of track proved that WiFi could be delivered to passengers at around 15Mbps -- up and down -- and if things go smoothly, the firm hopes to get its technology onto all sorts of rail systems across the globe.

iFob: Social Networking mit Sichtkontakt
iFob kommt mir durchaus interessantem Konzept, könnte sich aber hierzulande noch etwas schwer tun. Die Freeware setzt einen iPod touch oder ein iPhone mit Jailbreak voraus und dürfte - so liest es sich zwischen den Zeilen - mit der für diesen Monat angekündigten Öffnung von Apples Touchscreen-Gadgets auch über den dann kommenden offiziellen Weg installierbar sein.
Das Konzept erinnert an die großen Social Networking-Tools wie Facebook oder Studi-VZ: Es lassen sich Buddylisten anlegen, Statusnachrichten versenden und persönliche Infos veröffentlichen. Mit einem entscheidenden Unterschied allerdings: man lernt Menschen kennen, die sich in unmittelbarer Nähe (im selben Hotspot) befinden. iFob behauptet zumindest von sich, keinerlei Daten zu sammeln, stellt es dem Anwender völlig frei ob und was er in die eigenen Kontaktinfos einträgt. Microsoft's "Vista for privacy" offer still on?

Zune user files suit against Microsoft over alleged ear damage

Did Voce die overnight, without warning?

We don't know for sure what's up yet, but we're hearing that customers of Voce, the luxury MVNO based on AT&T's network, woke up on February 1st to zero service, dead customer service lines, and even some crazier claims like being double-billed for the final month of service. We surely hope this is all some kind of huge misunderstanding and outage on Voce's part, because if they did shut down, they certainly did so in about the most abrupt, impudent way imaginable. Either way, these guys are going to be out for the count -- we wouldn't exactly expect a mobile phone provider to go completely dark, ignore its customers

iPhone vs. Autobahn
Sehenswert sind die in der Flick-Galerie von Mike Beauchamp veröffentlichten Fotos eines überfahrenden iPhones. Und auch die passende Story dazu ist nett: Nach dem Betanken des eigenen Autos hat Mike das Gerät auf der Kofferraum-Haube seines Wagens vergessen. Den Sprit bezahlt und losgefahren hat er kurze Zeit später das fehlende iPhone bemerkt, auf die nächste Autobahn-Abfahrt gewartet und ist umgekehrt.

Intel und Micron planen flotteren NAND-Flashspeicher
Spätestens seitdem im MacBook Air erstmalig ein Solid State Drive als optionale Festplatte angeboten wird, wächst die Bedeutung dieser auf Flashchips basierenden Speicherlösungen. Ihr Einsatz wird vor allem durch den niedrigeren Stromverbrauch, den schnelleren Zugriffszeiten und der größeren Umempfindlichkeit gegenüber Erschütterungen begründet. Frankly, we're not totally sure we actually long to "create a physical link between our virtual and real identities" -- you know, we like to keep that stuff pushed far, far away from the forefront of our minds -- but if we ever have a change of heart, it seems the Wable will be right there waiting. Apple bekommt Patent für iMovie-Technik und Design des iPod HiFi
Obwohl das US-amerikanische Patentsystem noch immer nicht den Vorstellungen unter anderem Apples gerecht wird, verzichtet der kalifornische Computerhersteller vorrangig aus Eigennutz natürlich nicht auf weitere Patente. Gestern wurden dem Apfel-Unternehmen wieder zwei vom US-amerikanischen Patent- und Markenamt zugesprochen, die einmal iMovie und einmal das eigentlich schon abgekündigte iPod Hifi betreffen.

Tesla defies its roots, plans gas-electric car for 2009

Microsoft says 360 Elite is just so hot right now, no SKU changes planned

Naturally curious as to why Xbox 360 Elites are so difficult to find, we went straight to the source -- and Microsoft tells us that demand is simply outstripping supply on the 360 Elite right now, and that no model lineup changes are planned at this time -- especially since the Elite is their hot seller. Wii coming to Rock Band, Rock Band Premium Microphone not coming to Wii

We're chalking this up to mixed PR signals, but a spokesperson for PDP -- makers of that Rock Band Premium Microphone we caught the other day sporting a Wii logo -- just let us know it was an accident, and that the mic isn't compatible with the Wii after all. Of course, the only reason we cared is that the logo signaled the arrival of Rock Band on the Wii -- which we now know is happening anyway -- so the only people disappointed here should be those of you who wanted to experience Wii Rock Band with "premium" third-party accessorie

MacBook Air: delivery, unboxing photos
We have some delivery and unboxing photos of Apple's new MacBook Air, which arrive at the San Francisco's flagship store via DHL on Friday morning (but were not available for a few hours thereafter). Our USB-to-Ethernet Adapter also arrived along with our external USB SuperDrive.

Good news and bad news: MacBook Pros ...any...minute...now...
The stars have been further aligning up lately on the new MacBook Pros. If you are thinking about making an Apple laptop purchase hold out for a week or so. MacRumors thinks it will be within two weeks and some new battery specs have hit the interwebs. Also we've been hearing stories from retailers that new SKU's for MacBook Pros are hitting the streets (anyone care to elaborate?)So our predictions are as follows:

Sony planning new DSC-XXXX Cyber-shot?

Check out what we saw while prowling around Sony's booth at PMA -- a compact shooter badged "DSC-XXXX." Intriguing -- the overall form factor says S-series and the 8.1-megapixels, 3x zoom callouts fit the bill, too. Some super-secret new Cyber-shot from the wizards at Sony? UK's Ofcom follows FCC, agrees to sell-off public radio spectrum

UK regulator Ofcom has already given some indication that it intended to follow the FCC and sell off some public radio spectrum of its own, and it now looks like its really about to get the ball rolling, with it giving the official go-ahead for some key spectrum to be sold off through a "market mechanism."
