Wal-Mart Video-Chef wechselt zu Apple
Im digitalen Vertrieb von Medien ist Wal-Mart eine Macht - aber nur so weit, die Hollywood-Studios unter Druck setzen zu können, damit diese den Video-Downloaddiensten von iTunes und anderen Anbietern keine zu großzügigen Konditionen gewähren. Den eigenen Video-Downloaddienst hatte Wal-Mart hingegen vor kurzem eingestellt und konzentriert sich seitdem wieder auf den Verkauf von DVDs.

Apple to save Yahoo! from Microsoft?

GLOBAL giants including Apple and Rupert Murdoch's News Corp are believed to be considering rival bids for the internet company Yahoo, which has received a $44.6bn (£22.6bn) offer from Microsoft.
The conglomerate InterActiveCorp was another company named as a potential bidder for Yahoo, which is said to be unwilling to give in to Microsoft without a fight.
After Microsoft's chief executive Steve Ballmer made the offer in a letter on Thursday, it emerged that Yahoo had rejected a similar takeover attempt by Ballmer's organization a year before.

Killt das iPhone Motorolas Mobil-Sparte?
Nachdem bekannt geworden ist, dass Motorola darüber nachdenkt, die Unternehmenssparte für Mobil-Geräte zu verkaufen respektive abzuspalten, wird nun über das iPhone als Ursache für diesen Schritt spekuliert. A problem on some Seagate discs
Seagate announced a problem affecting some of their 3.5" disks. The affected models have firmware SD04 or SD14. The serial number of the impacted Disks will have a numeral different to the 3 that we have put in bold:

The bug causes a partial recognition of the disk cache resulting in malfunctions.
An update is available via a bootable disk image. Although intended for PC, it should work on the Mac Pro:

Once the archive is downloaded and unpacked, you should use disk utility to burn an iso image to a CD and reboot.
We are still waiting Apple and Seagate's postion on the large number of defective 2.5" disks that were mainly found in the laptops and Mac mini.

Official: Vista SP1 released to manufacturing -- headed your way

A new simple version to Jailbreak the iPhone with firmware 1.1.3
A new Jailbreak solution has appeared for the iPhone with firmware 1.1.3 that allows the iPhone to be unlocked, and also keeps the capability to install applications.
It is based on the techniques of the devteam iPhone and requires only an iPhone with jailbroken 1.1.2 firmware (baseband 04.02.13_G) and a Wi-Fi connection. Here are the steps to do (after you have syncronized and saved all your data on your iPhone):
- connect your iPhone to an energy source (USB ou charger) and IMPORTANT change the locking 'auto' to 'NEVER'.
- start the Installer application and update to the latest version.
- Install BSD Subsystem 2.0 which is found in the system page of Community Sources.
- Restart the iPhone..
- Restart the Installer, and load "Official 1.1.3 Upgrader" that is found on the system page.
- Quit the Installer et start the application Upgrade that you have just installed.

Changing the colour of metals
A laboratory at the University of Rochester has succedded in changing the colour of certain metals such as aluminium.
This technique uses a very powerful laser beam applied for a very short time to the surface of the finished product. This alters the surface such that the wavelengths that are absorbed or reflected are modified, and this changes the colour.
The technique still needs to be refined, however it will permit the production of items that, on demand, can take a large variety of colours.
In future, as Apple is always very innovative concerning design, on request, we will be able to order machines in colours of our choice.

Der Mann hinter dem oft gelobten Design der Apple-Produkte hat schon viele Auszeichnungen für seine Arbeit beim kalifornischen Computerhersteller bekommen - kein Wunder, gilt sein Design doch mindestens als ebenso legendär wie das von Braun-Designer Dieter Rams. Mit innovativem Produktdesign trug Jonathan Ive in nicht geringem Maße zum Erfolg der vielen Apple-Produkte ab dem revolutionären iMac G3 bei; er formte die Erfolgsgeschichte des iPod und der mobilen Apple-Computer und erschuf das Design des iPhone. Für diese Leistungen erhält er nun einen Morgan Stanley Great Briton Award für 2007.

IG Metall droht Nokia mit hohen Sozialplan-Forderungen
In den Streit um die drohende Nokia-Werksschließung in Bochum hat sich nun auch IG-Metall-Chef Berthold Huber eingemischt und den Finnen mit dem "teuersten Sozialplan, den das Land je gesehen hat", gedroht. Winamp vom iPhone aus bedienen
Klar hat fast jeder hier iTunes installiert, es gibt aber weiterhin Winamp-Nutzer unter unseren Lesern. Diese können die Jukebox ihrer Wahl nun auch vom iPhone (und vermutlich auch vom iPod touch) aus fernbedienen. Die entsprechende Programmerweiterung WWWinamp wurde auf Version 4.2 aktualisiert und bringt auf Wunsch ein eine entsprechende Erweiterung mit.

Neue MacBook Pros gesichtet
Morgen ist bekanntlich Dienstag, aber ob dann wirklich neue Modelle des MacBook Pro vorgestellt werden, weiß wohl nur Apple selbst. Die Modellbezeichnung ist bereits aufgetaucht und auch in der Lagerverwaltung von Best Buy finden sich bereits drei Modelle von Apples Top-Notebook. Die Preise bleiben demnach in den USA gleich, dass Auslieferungsdatum ist aber wahrscheinlich nur eine Schätzung oder ein Platzhalter.

Brandon Holland hat ein Skype-Plug-in zusammengebaut, welches die Skype-API nutzt und Anrufe per USB-Headset, sowie Textnachrichten unterstützt. FastSend ist ein Java-Programm zum schnellen und einfachen Verschicken von Dateien. Für die Übertragung wird SSL-Verschlüsselung benutzt, die Dateien können an jede E-Mail-Adresse übertragen werden.
