Vivitar's pocket-friendly DVR565HD camcorder does high-definition

Regrettably, there's not a whole lot of deets on Vivitar's latest camcorder just yet, but we do know that this ultra-compact unit will log clips in beautiful 720p. The DVR565HD is said to capture in H.264 / MPEG-4 at 30fps, while it can pipe that video back out in 1080i via the HDMI output. Also of note, it should be available in black and silver motifs, and while the 3-inch flip-out LCD monitor is a nice touch, the apparent inability for it to accept anything more capacious than a 4GB SD card is somewhat disappointing. Cuba lifts restrictions on cellphone use

Illegale Registrierungen von Domains nehmen zu
Wie die World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) meldet, nimmt die unrechtmäßige Registrierung von Domains zu Markennamen immer mehr zu. Google verzeichnet weniger Werbeklicks
Die Klicks auf Online-Werbung bei Google haben sich seit Beginn des Jahres enttäuschend entwickelt. Auswertungen der Marktforschungsgruppe Comscore zufolge stagnierte das Wachstum der Klick-Werbung. Im Februar lag es nur drei Prozent über dem Wert des Vergleichszeitraums des Vorjahres, womit sich die schwachen Januarwerte fortsetzten. Im Herbst des Vorjahres hatten die Analysten noch einen soliden Aufwärtstrend von rund 37 Prozent festgestellt.

Erneut falsche Anti-Spyware für den Mac im Netz
Sicherheitsbewusste Mac-Nutzer haben es schwer: kürzlich sorgte ein Porno-Trojaner für Aufsehen in der Mac-Anwenderschaft, dann droht von der BlackHat-Konferenz mögliches Unheil aufgedeckt zu werden und Hacker bewiesen mal wieder die Verwundbarkeit von OS X. Zu allem Überfluss wollen einem jetzt auch noch dubiose Zeitgenossen ein wenig Panik einjagen: Das betrügerische Anti-Spyware-Programm namens MacSweeper, das bereits im Januar auftauchte, kehrte nun unter dem Namen iMunizator zurück. Nach der Enttarnung durch den Antivirenhersteller F-Prot war unter dem alten Namen wohl kein Geld mehr mit der Angst vor Sicherheitslücken zu machen.

Apples iPhone breitet sich in diesem Jahr immer weiter über den Erdball aus. Nach Österreich soll bald auch die Niederlande in den legalen Genuss der Nutzung kommen. Aber auch auf der anderen Seite des großen Teichs wird der Wirkungsgrad des Handys erweitert. Aperture updated to 2.1, now with image processing plugins
Apple has just released version 2.1 of its photo pro app, Aperture, which now includes some image processing plugins, along with a number of other fixes. The 2.0 release of Aperture brought image processing plugins support (version 1.x supported only export plugins), but none was available, and third parties didn't have any specs or details on how tu use the APIs.
Well, this has changed and here's what you will get in this 49.7MB update, available from OSX's Softwre update or directly from Apple's Aperture download page:
Aperture 2.1 updates various features of the application and addresses issues related to performance and overall stability. The updates include the following:
Dodge & Burn plug-in
A sample plug-in is preinstalled, taking advantage of the Edit API introduced in Aperture 2.0. The plug-in adds brush-based tools for Dodge (Lighten), Burn (Darken), Contrast, Saturation, Sharpen, and Blur.

Red Hat meldet Umsatzplus von 27 Prozent
Red Hat hat seinen Umsatz im vierten Geschäftsquartal des Fiskaljahres 2008 (bis 29. Februar) gegenüber dem Vorjahr um 27 Prozent auf 141,5 Millionen Dollar gesteigert. MacBook Air security hacked at CanSecWest
Oh dear, it had to happen: security experts and hackers at the CanSecWest security conference are talking about just one event - that a MacBook Air was the first of three platforms succesfully hacked in the PWN 2 OWN hacking contest.
The contest saw former National Security Agency employee and researcher Charlie Miller saunter across to the Mac to run his exploit, which possibly took advantage of a security flaw in Safari.
Show organizers offered a Sony Vaio, Fujitsu U810 and the MacBook as prizes, each running a different operating system (Mac OS X, Windows Vista and Linux). The deal is that the first researcher to successfully hack each computer walks home with the laptop and some prize money.
While the Mac was the first system to fall to the hacker attacks, it's expected the other two systems will be PWNed later today.

Apple ships second iPhone SDK, seeks handwriting tech expert
Apple has released a second beta of its iPhone Software Development Kit (SDK), and is searching for a handwriting expert to join its iPhone development team.
SDK beta 2 is now available as a 1.36GB download from Apple's developer website. The kit contains all the tools developers may need to build applications for the device, and now also includes an Interface Builder, a visually-based tool that lets us build application interfaces using drag-&-drop.
Developers also gain access to new sample code and technical documentation, as Cupertino's iPhone dev team respond tp the first batch of developer feedback. The first version of the essential toolkit was introduced just weeks ago, indicating Apple to be prioritising iPhone in its r&d cycle.

Taiwan's Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. has secured the manufacturing deal for the second generation of Apple's iPhone, as the analysts at Gartner backtrack on their claims of earlier this week.

DIN entscheidet sich für ISO-Standardisierung von OOXML
Nun hat das Deutsche Institut für Normung (DIN) offiziell sein positives Votum für die ISO-Standardisierung von Microsofts Dokumentenformat Office Open XML (OOXML) abgegeben. Beobachter Andy Updegrove beanstandet allerdings, dass die Gremiumsmitglieder gar nicht mit "Nein" stimmen konnten. Wer mit iWork arbeitet, weiß, dass das Icon der Präsentationssoftware Keynote eine Rednerpult mit einem Textdokument darauf zeigt. Im Gegensatz zum Dokument im Icon von TextEdit ist der Text auf dem Papier allerdings kaum zu entziffern, auch nicht in der Cover-Flow-Ansicht.
